I've been reading around and I'm still quite confused.
I want to flash my touch pro with some ROM to enable the 850mhz band but I have no idea which rom to flash and no idea if it is the radio i need to flash or not.
Also what poses a problem is I'll lose all my custom settings and tweaks and everything and it'd be nice to know if I back the entire system up (and with what, i do not know) I can just restore everything and continue on my way using the proper band for my provider (900mhz is being used right now and my reception kinda sucks in buildings and whatnot)
Can somebody please guide me on what ROM/Radio I should flash and how I can back up EVERYTHING? (registry etc)
I'm actually going to modify my original question a little. After reading through some stuff it appears that the 1.02.25.28 sounds best and I'd like to flash it, but will this enable the 850mhz band or is a ROM flash also required for that?
Secondly if I just upgrade the radio, will that require a hard reset?
there is no 3G 850 band on the touch pro. theres people working on it, but it looks less and less likely that the hardware is there. if you need the 850 mhz 3G band buy an at&t fuze

I'm not talking about 3g I think. Just GSM/EDGE

I have a samsung EPIX I have done a lot of looking around all over I found that the epix supports 2100ghz HSDPA. So it should use T-Mobile 3g am I correct? I can not for the life of me figure out how to get it to work am I fighting a losing battle is it not possible? Am I missing something in the setup? I have had it for a few weeks and really love it. I would appreciate any help thanks.
John
hmm normally u have to goto connections setting and turn on HSDPA and reboot the device. it should auto connect using the 3G ,(depening on fone icons H mite show instead of 3G) as far as im aware HSDPA is great if using ur fone as a modem for laptops or desktop computers,
t-mobile uk supports upto 4.2mbs depending on area.
i'll try to look into this for u but u mite need to contact samsung as T-mobile only support soo much.
also HSDPA loves to drain the battery!
I called Tmob support and they said all I have to do is pop my sim card in and if the settings are correct it will work on 3G. They did not have any other info for me on my phone. I have no problem using EDGE network so I am assuming it is just in the phone. I do know now that my account is ready for 3G thats a plus YAY! I also did not see a place in setting to turn on HSDPA. Thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.
This is from the samsung web site it shows it supports UMTS/HSDPA (850,1900, 2100MHz). I found a service menu code to set the phone to wcdma only, but i get no service when I force it to use wcdma. Wcdma is the band for 3g am I correct? I also found a code to let me lock the exact band I want to use but I do not see 2100 I do see a 2000 but 2000 still dose not alow me to get service.Am I missing something? Am I just fighting a losing battle?
well my friend, I have been having the same question stirr in my head for weeks now, because i got this phone like a month ago and i love it. i would prefer this phone over almost anything that is out right now. What i have found out so far is that this is a losing battle. our phone (epix) does support 2100ghz but it does NOT support the also equally as important uplink frequency. (1700ghz). this is the problem. Tmobile uses 1700ghz uplink and 2100ghz downlink. and as far as ive discovered the is absolutely no way to fix this. no radio rom dowload, and no adjustment to the radio reciever/transmiter that ive found. i also am willing to do just about anything to get 3G with this phone also because its a BEAST. this phone is very quick and has a TON of amazing features but theyre really not that great if you cant get the phone to work to the best of its abilities. anyway, hope that helped a little.
yep, must have both 1700mhz and 2100mhz radio for tmob 3G! Very few ppc devices have this off the wall 1700...
that is correct, you must have both the 1700 and 2100 bands supported. Not very have the 1700 unless they are branded as tmobile. I have a tilt 2 and the Epix both running on the TMO network and neither will ever be able to use 3G.
Hey all!
i need some help guys, i cant make my 3g/hsdpa internet work on my phone. im stuck with a "e" meaning im using edge and never seen the "H" or "3g" icon to use high speed internet.
ive been reading about flashing, and roms and whatnot and i think im in the right place on how to fix it, but have no idea where to even begin..
if someone can help...greatttly appreciated.....
ie. which rom works, how to install etc..
thankx
If you bought a touch pro and not an at&t fuze you cannot use 3g on your phone on the rogers network.
Rogers uses the 850 band for 3G and the touch pro does not support 8503g. if you have the at&t fuze it supports the 850 3g band and should work no matter what rom you use because 3g frequency support is hardware dependant not software.
so theres basically NOTHING i can do about this problem?
Unless you have superior abilities (borderline God-like) in the art of persuasion and are able to get the folks at Rogers to see the wisdom in offering 850 Band support for 3G ... sadly, no.

well the only real valid solution would be to sell the touch pro, and then buy an AT&T fuze.
Mine is a Fuze and I have the same problem.
I was using a May version of Energy Titanium ROM and had always an H (HSDPA), I am living in the same house, place the phone at the same place, the only thing I changed was upgrading to Jun version of Energy Titanium ROM, now I got only E (Edge) no matter if I turn 3G On/Off, set Advanced Network HSDPA On/Off.
I use Titanium because I love SPB Shell, Senses are too slow for me.
Radio: 1.08.25.20M1 (the same on both ROMs) +Rilphone.dll
Is a ROM issue?
Please help!
no one help?
any link to flash back to May13th Energy ROM?
Moved as not ROM Development.
So it looks like TMO is using 1700/2100 for 3G while AT&T is using 850/1900 MHz. So basically the Dash3G is useless on AT&T for 3G.
Does anyone know if flashing the radio part on the Maple with one that has the correct frequencies will enable 3G on AT&T's network? Or are the radio frequencies a hardware thing? I know the SNAP S522 is the true USA version with the correct bands I just have no way of getting my hands on the radio partition.
I want 3G on my Dash"3G".
Firstly - thanks very much for all the ROM's and your hard work!
I'm a long time browser of these forums, but don't post much. Also a long time user and "flasher"!!! All the way back to the old MPX200 days. Always liked WM Standard, so it's realy good to see all this interest!!!
HTC seems to have been real cagey in their frequency descriptions when it comes to the Dash 3G series of phones. I read somewhere that there are software driven transcievers in some obscure phones out there......and I wonder if HTC actualy did this with their latest and greatest....
Just thinking out loud, per your question. When you look at the spec sheets, they seem to be "non-commital with regards to wcdma specs.
Hmm.
Also, it'd be good to have a set of radio only ROM's, as and when we see T-Mob USA fixes.. there needs to be some improvements made with regards to switching between edge and wcdma - in my opinion. I'm in the DFW area and get dropped calls, the phone drops to edge way too often, especially after a call.
I've experimented with just about every ROM available within this community. I'm currently running Mikey's i9000 ROM. I'm pretty experienced and safely say that I've always flashed in the appropriate manner, including usage of the JG8 modem in obtaining 850mhz. Where I live (Hampton Roads, VA), we don't actually have 850mhz, but at my in-laws house (D.C. Metro Area) we do, so I wanted to have 850mhz available if needed. This is the first weekend I've actually been in the D.C. area to test out the 850mhz band. When I got here, I checked right away - 1900mhz, Band 2. I rebooted and checked again right away - 850mhz 5.
After finally looking at a damn coverage map, I see Hampton Roads doesn't have 850mhz anywhere nearby. I've also read that there is some (unscientific) evidence that 1900mhz to 850mhz hand-offs could be a partial cause of the random shut down issues. Long story short for me, at least, is that I don't think I'll need 850mhz all that often after all.
Here's where I get confused. I went back into *#2263#, went to WCDMA and chose 1900mhz only to clear the selection off 850mhz in Combi. I then went to Combi and reselected everything but the WCDMA 850mhz band. I then selected Automatic band selection to clear my selection of the WCDMA only band. Finally, I went back to COMBI and confirmed that 850mhz WCDMA was not selected. I rebooted and immediately checked *#0011#: 850mhz 5. I went back to *#2263# and COMBI bands still does not have 850mhz selected.
Perhaps I messed up somewhere, but if so, my screwup resulted in the JG8 trick doing pretty much exactly what it's supposed to. My real question is what the heck does actually changing anything in COMBI do? It clearly made no difference when I chose AUTOMATIC. I suppose AUTOMATIC, on my phone at least, really does literally use ALL bands. Across all of the ROMs and modems I have tried I've never been able to actually select COMBI as the band method. I can manipulate COMBI's entries, but I can only actually *select* AUTOMATIC, WCDMA or GSM.
Can anyone else confirm this to be the case or their experience? At the end of the day, if you want 850mhz then the JG8 dance clearly did the trick. The only way I've been able to get rid of 850mhz is to choose WCDMA 1900 ONLY.
A few final notes: I'm currently using the JPM modem, though this has been my experience for the most part with any included modems. Also, I'm not trying to vent or *****. I realize that if I don't want 850mhz I could just not flash JG8 over, and I'm ok with that. I'm trying to understand why my phone exhibited this behavior, as well as whether it matters one bit what I do in COMBI going forward.
Really? Nobody?
I'm starting to doubt my ability to provide relevant contributions to this community.
I am not sure why you would want to limit your phone to 1900 only. The reasons why the two are used depends on geography, population density and most important whether att even has licensing to 850 in an area or even some whole states for that matter. 850 is much better at penetrating structures and such so often times people can connect to one or the other depending on whether they are outside or in their house or office.
Ideally both would be available and your modem would select the strongest....thus reducing battery consumption. Where I am located, we have both and I dont see the handoff reboot issue...though I know in some setups it has occurred but not in the newer roms
Btw...love that area, used to live in chesapeake though I dont miss the whole personal property tax crap, or whatever they called it, and the fear of an inch of snow bringing out the inability of people to drive on a semi slick surface....

Yeah, we just moved here from the D.C. area and I really, really like it.
As to why I would want to limit 850 on my handset...I had read some posts where people claimed that one potential reason for random shutdowns were 1900 to 850 handoffs. I've found that if that is correct, it wasn't the cause in my case. I've re-enabled 850 because, well...why not?
But I'm still left curious about the COMBI band thing. Just on principle...if I've deselected 850 in COMBI, chosen AUTOMATIC and rebooted...why is my phone still connecting on 850?
It is a mystery just as why you can not just enable 850 using those settings. Why jg8 performs this voodoo magic I dont know...what I do know is I tried everything a while ago when trying to run i9000 roms when I noticed this phenomenon and passed it along to boomerod who tested and confirmed. At the time there was not a lot of discussion about it but I had to have 850 working as I barely see 1900 at home but 850 is awesome strength....now it is standard protocol for installing i9000 but we still have not heard an explanation from any expert
Obviously changing those settings really does nothingand I cannot tell you why
Hi Guys,
So I've been running Clean Rom for roughly 6 months now, still running version 5.1 (Android Version 4.0.4) on my HTC ONE XL.
My One XL is a Telstra branded phone and thus has the capability for 850MHz. I was running on the Vodafone network and therefore not using said band, however I have recently swapped over to Telstra (Was never with them in the first place).
Unfortunately I'm not seeing the gains in reception I was hoping for, and I am currently finding that when going to locations where there should be signal, albeit edge, crappy signal, I am receiving none. My question is, does Clean Rom disable the 850MHz frequency or does it still support it? Is there a way I can check whether I am accessing the 850MHz network, and if so, how? If it isn't am I able to turn on th 850MHz frequency?
Looking forward to getting this sorted. Cheers.
ROM shouldn't make much difference in band compatibility. Since your version supports 850 MHz for both 2G (EDGE) and 3G, it should work regardless of ROM, and you don't need to "turn it on". There are "secret codes" you can enter into the dialer that will tell you information about the bands, and also signal strength. Just use the XDA search function, and you should be able to find them.
You might see some slight improvement if you are not currently on a Jellybean radio, and flash one (if hboot 2.14 or higher, you will need to s-off). But I wouldn't bet on it making a huge difference.
What makes you think you should have (crappy) reception in the mentioned locations? From reception on another phone? Every phone is different (antenna design, etc.). Since you mentioned the reception at the location is already crappy, its probably more of a antenna issue than a ROM issue.

I'm not sure where you're located, Telstra is the largest Telco in Australia with the largest and best coverage. Vodafone unfortunately has a very bad reputation for reception. Swapping from Vodafone which does not use an 850MHz band to Telstra, which does, has netted me reverse effects. I am receiving worse reception, which should not be the case. If I go into fringe areas where edge is the best signal you receive, I will receive none, where as in town locations where more than the 850 band is used, I receive okay signal. Just seems like I'm not picking up the 850 band.
As I already mentioned, search for the "secret" dialer codes. There are codes that will tell you the cell tower signal, and I believe band, which sounds like what you need.
None of the dialer codes seem to allow me to see what particular frequency I'm using. Unless I'm just completely missing something? The only thing that seems to provide me with info on the radio only states Network Type and the DBM.
