Hello
I've installed TomTom 6 and downloaded USA and Canada maps and copied to Storage Card.
After runing TomTom 6, it couldn't find any map although I have USA and Canada maps in my storage card.
What's wrong?
Thanks
Tomtom is a bit specific where the maps have to be.
The maps have to be in a folder one level deep now more no less. they cant in the root of the card or in say \TT6\maps\.
Worse comes to worse try using the tomtom home application to install the maps.

Hi all, does anyone know if tomtom 5 will work ok on the orbit ?
Its just I already have tomtom 5 and lots of maps (europe & USA)that I use on my XDAIIi and dont fancy replacing all the maps to upgrade to tomtom 6.
Anyone ? I know its probably a simple question but I thought id ask before trying as I am still waiting for my micro sd cards.
Plus whats the largest micro sd card that anyone has used and found to be stable with the orbit ?
TT works
Hi,
in Germany the Orbit is shipped with the TT6-Software included and works fine. In my Orbit I installed a 2GB SD-Card. I´ve read a thread in this forums, that 2GB is the maximun.
I have TT6 but with only uk map, what Id like to know is will TT5 work on it as I have ALL the maps for TT5 and I dont fancy paying for these for TT6 as I dont think the TT5 maps work with TT6.
I have a Cingular 8125, equivalent to the HTC Wizard, and I was wondering what I needed to do to use GPS on it. If i bought a bluetooth gps receiver would Google Maps or Windows Live Search be adequate for mapping my route? I do not have a data plan so I want something that I can use without having to be connected to the internet. Do GM and WLS require an internet connection even if you have a gps receiver connected?
somebody has got to know this...
yes i believe that google and ms use grps to get their maps to the gps
better off with tomtom or some other program which already have the maps
That's correct: the GPS receiver you connect will get your location from its satellites, but both GM and WLS have to pull the data used to draw the actual maps on your screen from the internet -- thus requiring a data connection (and an unlimited data plan, basically, because every time the map scrolls a bit, that's more data coming down... which adds up to massive amounts in a hurry!).
In order to not use any downloaded internet data, you'd have to use software like TomTom or Garmin, that comes with its own maps that you install directly onto your device or memory card as a data file.
ah I figured as much, I guess I have to buy some software. Does anybody know a rough estimate of how much memory the maps take up. For instance, I dont want to buy TomTom with the maps on a memory card because I already have a memory card that I use while I'm driving (for music mostly). If I buy TomTom on dvd can i transfer the maps to my current memory card fairly easily? Mostly I am just worried about the space I have. I pretty much just need a map of the United States and I have about 1.5 gb free, should this be enough for the map?

I use Ostia by PharosGPS in the states. You can download the entire USA highways map and then just the state regions you want to use. You don't have to load it all, so the storage is very configurable.
just a quick one. is it possible to install tomtom and destinator to my phones memory and then just have the maps on the sd card? just i have only got a 512 card at the min and they both dont fit on there (only need about another 30 mbs!) i use and like tomtom but i just want to test out another gps software to see how its copmpaired.
cheers people
For those like me who have had many failed attempts with TT6 and TT7 using legitimate software and maps I asked ALK (CoPilot) if their CoPilot 7 Touch Diamond edition would would on our devices and allow it to install to an SD card rather than internal memory. They replied that it could be manually copied.
I ordered it and got the CD today.
I copied the CD (DVD) to an SD card, and then moved the files in the Data directory into the CoPilot directory on the SD card.
Inserting the SD card triggered the WM6 cab file to lauch and install the base application on the device.
It's not TomTom but am well pleased with the results and a GPS satellite lock took around 2 minutes even from indoors.
I've downloaded the Camera POI's from PocketGPSWorld and loaded them and all looks good.
Money well spent I think
I just sent back my Garmin (have two units for the vehicles, but don't like that you can't move the data on the card to another, and the ones they sell have 400MB free).
Do you have a link? I want to ensure I can get the US covered with their software. Right now, I'm just using Google Maps. It works well for freeware, but it has me at a location half mile away.

There is also an option to buy and download the diamond application from handango for the same price. Its a 275MB download for the UK maps. Copied the files onto SD card, which then autorun and loaded the main application (11mB) onto the main memory. At last, my estate is correct - the latest maps from tomtom still have non existant roads and roads that go through houses!!!! Full postcode support as well.
iGO8 is great too
Yes, but you are locked to the SD card they provide or is there a way around that and using my own SD card?
BTJ
yes there is AFAIK
I don't know more
Hello all,
Installed my trusty 16 gig card that already had Copilot installed on it. Proceeded to Market and downloaded the app and installed.
Typically the app will find the maps on the sd card and all works fine.
Well with the 5 or so gigs considered "internal sd" and the "external sd" in the file system, Copilot didn't pick up the maps! I tried Copilot Central on the desktop and considered my phone a Copilot device, but saw 0 bytes free so I couldn't reload the map from my PC.
So long story short I had to manually copy the NA map folder off of my 16 gig "external sd" and copy it into the Copilot directory on the "internal sd".
After that Copilot worked fine.
So I dont know if this is the way this "internal/external sd" card stuff typically works (first phone with this much usable internal space", or a bug in the way Copilot handles things?
Hope this helps someone.

I copied the EU map in the correct folder in the internal sd, and doesn't see the map.
I loved this phone when I bought it. In the last 2 days I had so many problems I never had with other phones. The wifi hotspot gave me a lot of problems. I'm not able to use gps. The whole internal / external sd is really annoying. With my old phones I never had this problems. I regret I sold the HD2, was perfect with WM and Android
