Camera software: Shooting modes and lag fix? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey everyone. Been lurking for a while and trying to find an answer, but I guess I'll have to post a topic.
Having had a SE K800i prior to my HTC TP, I knew the cam wouldn't be up to the same standard... but I was hoping it would be better than it is. So I have some questions.
1. Is there any software that can replace the stuff that comes with the phone (I've got the Aust. Three ROM phone). In other words is there at least some software with some different modes - ie. portrait, night shot, etc. At the moment it just seems to be a permanent night shot mode, which gives this laggy, blurry result! I don't want to have to manually set the camera each time I want to take a shot...
2. If there is such a thing, where can I find it!!
I've done the registry hack for the press and hold multi-shot but that's about all I can find floating around atm. Anybody have any ideas?

*bump*
So there's no alternative camera software for the Pro?

What are the default values?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\ P1 - P10 -> the value "enable" 0 or 1

Just got my XDA Exec - a few Qs

Well, I am typing this message from my new Exec, and I have to say on the whole I am impressed. I have a few questions though:
1) Specs say 1.3Megapixel camera, but I have the option of 2MP mode, is this normal? Is it a software resolution increase?
2) The phone sometimes loses all reception and never reconnects until i turn on flight mode and then off again. Anybody else experience this?
3) Can I get rid of the damned O2 Active part? when i change screen orientation, it takes longer than i expected to redraw the screen. I think this is due to the O2 UI.
4) Finally, there is a button on the side with a lightbulb beside it, what is it supposed to do? mine doesn't appear to do anything...
Allan
allanmb,
1) Had not seen that option. Just took a picture when in 2mp mode. Picture is 1600x1280! Nice find!
2) A number of people have reported problems with the phone. Mine is working fine, as far as I can tell, but look on the forum and TG for more info.
3) O2A - If you look in Programs, you will see an app called Install Type. This allows you to change your installation on-the-fly. Select Basic, and that gives you all the right settings but without the O2a rubbish. There was an addition to this posted on Tekguru, that stops the nag screen from coming up when you restart. Unfortunately I can't connect to TG at the moment, so I can't give you the link.
4) The button with the lightbulb. As far as I know, this is supposed to toggle the screen backlight on\off. I think it only works on battery, though I have to admit that I haven't tried this.
Thanks for the reply. A few additonal comments below:
1) Glad to be of help, the pics look good in 2MP mode too
2) I may have found something by mistake. I have switched my phone band from auto to gsm. So far so good...
3) Excellent, its sooo much faster now! The O2A stuff is quite nice, but it is waaaay too slow. And I bet that is the reason we had to wait an extra few months for the hardware to come out!
4) I found some info in another thread: The button turns the backlight on if it has timed out. It doesnt turn off the backlight tho. A bit weird to have a button just to do this, but hey.

Turning off autofocus

Anyone know of a tweak for this? On my sprint TP it is automatically turned off if I take picture while on a phone call, so there must be an option somewhere to turn it off for good.
i would really like to know this as well

Strange that it gets turned off during a phone call. Can anyone else confirm this?
yeah i tried it during a call and it does get turned off during a call.
i want to turn it off because the autofocus takes so long. especially when i need to snap those quick pictures...
Same here, no autofocus during a phone call... I'm using original ROM.
I'm very interested too in a solution for that strange behavior.
I would like to know how to turn it off as well because it takes too long to snap the shot! Would be great if there was an option to turn it on or off!
May no be EXACTLY what you're looking for, but go in to camera->settings->advanced and on page 3, there's a Shoot Option. Change this to Full Press, and no more AF.

I have it at Full Press, but that still is auto focus. As soon as you hit it, you will see the camera try to focus on what ever you're trying to shoot before it actually takes the photo.
I too am curious as to how to turn it off.
there's gotta be like a registry tweak????? someone? anyone? haha

Even i m in dire need of this tweak........sometimes its impossible to get a good snap, bcos of the delay caused by auto focus.......
i was using UIQ 3 phone earlier, where a half press would lock the focus and full press will immediately click snap without a delay.....
can someone make sum tweal on similar lines
please someone. haha
BUMP.......
Turning off Auto Focus
Anyone help !!!!!!!!!
Bump
This is very odd. I guess that even HTC knew that the camera program was either not optimized or demanded to much resource so they cut off the autofocus mid call.
From my own experience, its really hard trying to figure out the system calls coming form the dialer, i dont think this is going to be an easy fix.

it would be nice if someone could do this? i would donate happily )
also id really like a auto lfash - which i think is in development
but this is a good idea as i agree it takes so long to focus that you hardly ever get a good shot
I'm interested in this. Have missed many pics due to the focus being so slow!
why does nobody want to reply to thread with an answer? strange seeing as there is so much demand
I use AutoFocus and have no delay in taking a picture.
If you have a delay in taking a photo just change the settings using the Advanced Configuration Tool. Under the camera options, capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set to zero.
Also, try this:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam/
and set
CaptureTimer = 0 (old=5000)
Two more things to do - go into the camera advanced settings (in the camera itself) and turn off the click sounds and set the review time to no limit. With those changes above I think I have a working camera here...
While we're at it, if your photos are yellow change the white balance settings: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=951

Camera not saving picture

Hey all,
I just got (and totally love) the Fuze. I've already flashed it to NATF's 2.2 and it's just amazing. The only problem is that somewhere between yesterday and today, the camera has totally flaked out on me :-(.
I'll take a picture (and regardless of if its set to store on the memory card or internal mem) and once I opt to save it, the Fuze just hangs with the "Windows thinking" ball spinning. After a while it goes back to "Albums" and the recently shot picture isn't there.
I implemented the GPS fix and have been toying in Advance Config -- but I don't think any of those changes should have affected the camera. Even weirder, the picture counter is incrementing and I do have open storage on both the card and internal.
Any ideas?
- Matt
same thing happened to me.
Turns out autoconfig has a bug for the fuze.
For the camera options in autocofig
there's something called portrait, and was initially disabled.
changing it to enable breaks the camera.
took me days to figure that out...l o l

Thanks! That was the problem and now the camera works fine! Is there a FAQ or something this should go into? Without your help I would never have found that.

haa..np at all..just sharing something that i've found out after hours of hard resetting, flashing, installing, etc... l ol
maybe tomorrow'll be you helping me...
cheers!

Thanks!
I had this problem too, on both my Sprint Touch Pro and AT&T Fuze. Wouldn't save in photo mode (though video, contacts photo, panorama etc. modes were okay). There was no error message on the Fuze so I didn't realize there was a problem until I went looking for some pictures and couldn't find them. After I figured out what has going on I checked the Sprint version to see if it had the same problem. The Sprint Pro at least gives an error message about not being able to save the file.
I had installed Advanced Config on both devices, so I thought it might be one of the settings in there that had killed the camera. However, telling AC to restore all settings didn't fix it so I've been tearing my hair out looking for other causes. Fortunately I found this thread before rendering myself completely bald.
Is this a bug in AC, or was I wrong in my assumption that "restore all settings" would restore everything to default?
I wonder how many people with Fuzes have this problem but don't know about it due to the lack of an error message.
Cheers,
Elizabeth
Thanks, saved me hours. My pictures would save sometimes, but only half of the picture. Works perfectly again now.
glad someone helped you out!

Thank you for sharing. Can't say how much time you saved me but you did!
Some searches I used to find this were:
raphael camera issue
raphael camera pause
raphael camera saving problem
touch camera issue

touch camera saving problem
omg! this has bugged for the last month or so, and i've been too busy to do a good search on it! i thought i didn't try the right combination. i don't remember changing anything with AC, still thanks so much for the solution funnysam
Does new Autoconfig version fix the bug?
The latest version is 3.3.0.0.
Does anyone know if that bug was fixed?
I ask (instead of providing feedback from my own experience) because I had the older version installed first, and then installed the new version over it, so maybe the bug persisted.
AdvConfig 3.3 doesn't list the option for portrait now.

Hmm, interesting.
I performed a "Reset all settings" did a soft reset, and the option for the Portrait is now visible, with "Enabled (default)" selected.
Once I disabled that option, camera is working great.

Same problems, and this works for me
Thanks, Bros
I'm using AC3.3 and have some weird camera issues. The closest option I can see in AC3.3 is to "Encode photos in portrait mode" and have NO selected. Is this the option you guys are talking about?
Yes. That's the option.
For me, that fixed the issue of the camera taking *forever* to save the picture and then display the options buttons. Even if I left the camera to finish, the picture never saved.
And, it didn't matter whether the shot was landscape or portrait - with that option enabled, the problem persisted until that setting was disabled.
Too bad, because that would be a nice feature!
Thank you!!!
This problem has been plaguing me for the last 2 days. Seems that whenever I get my Fuze working just the way I like, something else happens to irritate the crap outta me. Thanks for posting this!
Hm.. I'm using Advanced Config 3.3 as well and it doesn't display the portrait option. Does anybody know the registry setting this is modifying?
I am glad I stumbled across this series of posts. My experience with the Autocofig Bug gave me several days worth of heartburn. Thank you for the help!! It was much appreciated!!!

[SOLVED] Album / Camera problems after installing Diamond 2 G-Sensor

I am looking for somebody to please attach to this thread a .reg of virgin (or nearly) settings stored in HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera
I'm trying to figure out a problem I've read about in other threads with unsatisfactory resolutions (hard reset and/or disable a feature). There are actually two problems.
1. My camera started locking up after taking pictures and pictures would not save. In Camera\Image there's a setting EnableEncodePortrait that controls whether the camera automatically rotates the picture 90 degrees. If you disable this, the camera WILL take pictures again, but...
2. The Album shows all new pictures rotated incorrectly 90 degrees. Basically, every picture is portrait and not landscape.
Now, these two problems seem to oppose each other. If you want the pictures autorotated to the correct orientation, you need the setting enabled. But if you don't want the camera to freeze you need it disabled. lol
Obviously somewhere along the line in my tweaking I've fouled something up. I'm thinking it's just a matter of finding some setting to tweak back to an appropriate value, so I wanted to compare the registry from a virgin install to mine. I would hard reset myself, but then I can't test to see if I fixed the problem or not.
Can I get a hand, my fellow tweakers?!
Thanks!
----
EDIT: I've found that my problem was the Diamond 2's gsensor. After I uninstalled that, and set EnableEncodePortrait back to zero, my problems magically disappeared.
are there anyway to have camera work proper with diamond 2 gsensor?
i dont think the solution is to uninstall and forget about it. i never have any problems with camera. i know the camera uses the accelerometer to decide whether to have the picture in landscape or portrait. i have an issue with double rotate in album though. ill have to get some proper screenshots of what i mean. other problems i have is teeter freaks out. i solved that by deleting the entry for it in gconfig. the rest i havent decided yet.
thanks
i uninstalled and live happily ever after~

Are Burst and Sport Mode for the Camera WORKING FOR ANYONE?

Has anyone learned anything new regarding the Burst and Sport mode being enabled for the HD2? So far I've seen sights saying it's enabled when the registry is tweaked, but what a lot of them don't include is that this only allows the buttons or choices to be there. I haven't read one statement of these modes actually WORKING on anyone's HD2. Can we at least make a sticky of these type of things? I know I wont be the first one making a thread like this after finding out they don't work. Also the search function doesn't turn up much. Just some user posting what I posted without anyone confirming or denying it.
Don't work for me either, doubt I will very much use them though
I tried as well with no luck. I tried using it the other day when I took my son to the park to get some pictures of him on the swing and the slide and came up with the error.
Burst and sport mode not working on 1.66 ger ROM too.
No solution?
i got them both running on my touch diamond xD
but on the hd2 i havent got further then being able to select these options (i searched the reg to enable them). when i actually shoot the picture, in burst mode it says: "writing denied" (but just had an idea a second ago^^, will check on this later) and in sports mode it takes only one of three pics. this could be caused by my tryout for activating unlimited lightning
