Turning off autofocus - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Anyone know of a tweak for this? On my sprint TP it is automatically turned off if I take picture while on a phone call, so there must be an option somewhere to turn it off for good.

i would really like to know this as well

Strange that it gets turned off during a phone call. Can anyone else confirm this?

yeah i tried it during a call and it does get turned off during a call.
i want to turn it off because the autofocus takes so long. especially when i need to snap those quick pictures...

Same here, no autofocus during a phone call... I'm using original ROM.
I'm very interested too in a solution for that strange behavior.

I would like to know how to turn it off as well because it takes too long to snap the shot! Would be great if there was an option to turn it on or off!

May no be EXACTLY what you're looking for, but go in to camera->settings->advanced and on page 3, there's a Shoot Option. Change this to Full Press, and no more AF.

I have it at Full Press, but that still is auto focus. As soon as you hit it, you will see the camera try to focus on what ever you're trying to shoot before it actually takes the photo.

I too am curious as to how to turn it off.

there's gotta be like a registry tweak????? someone? anyone? haha

Even i m in dire need of this tweak........sometimes its impossible to get a good snap, bcos of the delay caused by auto focus.......
i was using UIQ 3 phone earlier, where a half press would lock the focus and full press will immediately click snap without a delay.....
can someone make sum tweal on similar lines

please someone. haha

BUMP.......

Turning off Auto Focus
Anyone help !!!!!!!!!

Bump
This is very odd. I guess that even HTC knew that the camera program was either not optimized or demanded to much resource so they cut off the autofocus mid call.
From my own experience, its really hard trying to figure out the system calls coming form the dialer, i dont think this is going to be an easy fix.

it would be nice if someone could do this? i would donate happily )
also id really like a auto lfash - which i think is in development
but this is a good idea as i agree it takes so long to focus that you hardly ever get a good shot

I'm interested in this. Have missed many pics due to the focus being so slow!

why does nobody want to reply to thread with an answer? strange seeing as there is so much demand

I use AutoFocus and have no delay in taking a picture.
If you have a delay in taking a photo just change the settings using the Advanced Configuration Tool. Under the camera options, capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set to zero.
Also, try this:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam/
and set
CaptureTimer = 0 (old=5000)
Two more things to do - go into the camera advanced settings (in the camera itself) and turn off the click sounds and set the review time to no limit. With those changes above I think I have a working camera here...
While we're at it, if your photos are yellow change the white balance settings: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=951

Stop automatic camera off (cam run in background) via registry?

I have been trying to figure this out for like 2 years. I just want to be able to record video in the background. I am running Mobile 6.1 on an HTC S720. I have tried the latest coolcamera (it just starts and immediately shuts off). I have searched EVERYWHERE. It would seem that the program built into the phone could potentially keep recording if the trigger to stop recording once the program was exited was turned off.
Is there a known registry modification (or any modification) to make the camera program stay always recording?
Is there any other software people have had luck with other then coolcamera?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even a link or keyword, anything is helpful at this point. This really seems like it should be easier then it is (or hopefully isn't).

Hi,
Guess you'll need to find a way to minimize (or hide) the UI of your camera. I tried recording a video and then pressed the Win-button on my keyboard to get into the startmenu, but it just stopped recording. Looks like the cam takes over the phone completely.
Besides, if you want the phone to keep recording, you'll need a very BIG storagecard (19s vid = 2.8 MB on my phone) and an even BIGGER battery.

Ya I have a 4 gig card in it. The camera program stays on because I can still see it in the process menu. I specifically want this for altercations with police whether in my car or on the street. I would like to start recording then lock the phone. I have had my phone recording while dealing with a cop and he saw the camera and his attitude changed. I'd rather them not know I am recording, and not be able to access the phone at the same time. I understand they could just pop out the card, but lengthwise I could pop out the card and slip it into my sock if they confiscate the phone. The phone can handle about 45 mins of straight recording so battery life shouldn't be an issue, plus it stays plugged in while in my car.
Thanks for the input as any is welcomed.

So, why you need videorecording then ? Guess it'll be easier and faster to just start your voicerecorder with your phone in one of your pockets...

Oh man, my X1 also cannot use Cool Camera either, And the default camera program can't been minimize....., I know that asus P565 default one could do so....looking for that program

Any usefull Camera Application out there?

Taking photos with the TD2 sucks a**.
options like brightness oder ISO dont change anything. all the pictures look the same.
but especially when its dark id like to increase exposure time. or how about taking quickshots with focus to infinity instead of waiting to infinity for the autofocus to adjust?
is there any application able to do that?
edit: just saw this thread. missed it on first search. sry.
but still nothing new?
Hi laureus,
I don't know the settings about ISO or changing other things but i have extra camera capture modes, and i attached the cab for you.
The limitations are more down to the hardware in my opinion, no app is going to make much better pictures. In good light, with low ISO, the TD2 actually takes decent pictures (in my opinion again), as good as you have a right to expect from a phone/PPC.

This isn't going to happen. You can't preset such a cheap lens/focussing mech to infinity, it just hasn't got the accuracy to go back to the same place every time. Autofocus every time is unfortunately essential for sharp pictures.
I know its not exactly what he asked about . BUT
qik freeeking rox on the htc pure .. ive used it since my blackjack and i love it . if ya need a video streaming to web app .
thanks for your answers.

yeah, im quite happy with pictures taken in normal light situations. it is just when you get to the evening hours some more exposure time would be nice.
even my old nokia n70 could do that. why not the much newer td2?
well, you cant have it all.
What I'd like to see in a camera app is something that lets me flip it over and use the volume buttons as a camera switch. Perhaps, using the left button (volume down) to autofocus, and the right button to actually shoot the picture.

this can be done with key remapper.
i mapped the "back button" to shoot a picture when the camera is active. if camera is not active it still works as a back button.
Can you tell me how did you do this???I did not understand how it works.
dark photos
I too have the same problem of dark photos,
are also the owner of a diamon and photos in dim light is much better than the diamon2,
where you could change the registry for this problem?

[Q] HTC Desire S Camera Problem

Hey everyone.
I just bought my desire S and i am having an issue with the camera.
every time i open up the camera app, the screen focuses with a square in the middle and makes that focus sound then beeps like it does when it is ready to take a photo, then the screen goes black and repeats the focus part...
I dont have to even touch anything for this to happen.
I have tried powering the phone off and back on, and also clear data from applications menu but it still has this problem.
Anyone else have these issues? or similar

This has happened to me but just once, The phone seemed to be auto taking pictures without me pressing anything, making the noises etc.. although when I later looked on the SD card none appeared to have been taken and when I pressed the button it did take the picture that I wanted.
I'm afraid that I can't quite remember what I did to stop it, I believe that I toggled the auto focus settings.
all fixed now!
I had to toggle the auto focus setting.
Thanks for the tip!

Turn off one finger zoom

Just installed Synergy JB and have noticed that there is one finger zoom in here where you basically slide up and down on the edge of the screen and it zooms in and out. I see people with the note II have this also so it seems it may be a Touchwiz JB feature but I haven't seen a way to turn it off. It's nice but would love to find a way to toggle it. I already checked display, accessibility, and motion controls with no luck and it zooms in any app that can zoom.
If I remember correctly E actually put the GNOTE 2 camera in that ROM so what you are seeing is that actually camera... As far as I know the only way to change that would be to flash a different camera.... HOWEVER.. I do have the NOTE 2 camera on mine also and can pinch to zoom or use the volume keys so there may be different versions of that also... But anyways flash a different camera and that should do the trick

Well its not just the camera it's in the browser, wikipedia app, and others
I apologize.. I swear the post said in the camera app.... I know he pulled a few .APK's from the Note 2... All I can suggest is check the settings for the individual apps... You could also try and download a different browser and try that... That would help narrow it down if it is something "Overseeing" the ROM or something specific to certain .APK's....
anyone find a fix for this...it's happening in my browser now and it's killing me?

What Scroll Bars?

With all due respect, you may want to look at your screen and take note of the fact there are no scroll bars.
I understand that we are creatures of habit, and as I have been using the GUI, with Scroll Bars since the first Mac (1984) I too tend to use the edge of the screen to scroll, but the truth is, it is a Phone, not a Mac, not a PC. It has no scroll bars. Scroll slightly to the left (or to the right-so to not disenfranchise left handed phone users) or 1/4 of the way across, or 1/3rd, or 1/2 or 3/4 quarters, etc. etc. etc.
Anywhere you'd like. It's a Phone, it's a touch screen. No mouse, no ability to tap in the scroll bar and have the screen advance. No way to position your mouse over the up or down arrow, and have the screen scroll smoothly without any other movement than you holding down the mouse button.
It's a Phone. Get it?
Anyway, what is really infuriating is that Samsung put this feature on the phone, didn't tell anyone, until people started complaining about it and reporting it as a bug, and then rather than either tell people about it, or add the ability through a Setting to disable it, in a new release of the software, the morons simply took it away.
So let me ask you, if your phone came configured with the setting disabled by default, but gave you the option to enable it, try it, see if you liked it, then said, nah, and turned it off, would that have been best for you and guys like me who depend on it all day every day to be able to use my Phone with one hand?
I think the answer is obvious.
Samsung, you are laughable, amateur software developers.
Thankfully we have XDA.
Now I just need one of you on here to figure out where in the heck it is hidden so you can make me a build that includes it with whatever else is in the latest releases.
You see, Android is almost entirely "Hard Coded" so it is not something the average user can just go "teeak" , like following the step by step instructions of someone to simply "Hack" the Windows Registry to make it the way we like it.
All the more reason Samsung is so pitiful.

Camera defocusing when recording starts

I have noticed this problem a couple month ago but figured only today that I could post here.
So the issue is pretty simple to describe. When recording a movie, the focus moves just a little bit right after I click the record button.
So if get the focus straight before recording, the focus will move and the movie will be blurry.
It seems I can prevent this to happen if I focus manually, hold my finger on screen while I start recording with another finger. But it doesn't work 100%
Am I the only one with this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
When I found this out I was rolling with Chroma, since then I went back to stock but the problem is still there.
Thanks in advance for your help
Nobody?
I noticed a while back that when I take a photo using my text messaging app, it is constantly trying to focus. Yet, when I switch to my actual camera app, it will focus just fine. I would suggest trying a different app. I don't do much video, but I know what you are talking about. Its freaking annoying. Its already focused just fine but then its like it decides to just try again and it takes longer while you're recording. Definitely try a different camera app. There might be one with focus lock or something like that.
