SMS storage location on WM6.1 - General Topics

Subject says it all really - anyone know please where texts are stored using the MS default SMS app within 6.1? The threaded Palm app used to keep them in palmsgv001 but I can't find anything similar for the MS system
Thanks

HELP.... how to mark all text messages as read in WM 6.1?

I just restore my all my SMS using Jetware. The problem is that I just can't find a way to mark all my SMS in phone as read like I used to do with WM 6.
Anybody know how to mark all SMS (using Ctrl A) as read in WM 6.1?

I use Inbox Extender for this (http://blogs.msdn.com/dennisq/archive/2006/08/29/730874.aspx). It is freeware, and does exactly what you want!

I know your problem... Do allow the app some time to set the read-flags for all those messages. It will take a couple of minutes!
Good luck,

Is there any way to have it show up on the HTC Plugin?
The only thing that I don't like about the palm threaded is that you can't just start typing something and then the program will look for results like windows threaded does...other than that Palm threaded rocks.

the threaded sms application from the 750v?
from what I read elsewhere, it seems as though MMS is not included in the threading for WM 6.1, just SMS
as far as functionality, the palm version is better. but it would be great if there is a way to backup the messages other than just by copying the file/database itself.
also, i can confirm that MMS works both in the palm version and in the wm6.1 version. for wm6.1, the settings were automatic, the palm version needs manual configuration.
HANDS DOWN Palm THREADED
Its much faster and eats up less system resources
It just doesnt work on my KAISER
I have tried several diff roms and different versions including shogunmarks
but i always get
OUT OF MEMORY error when trying to send a MMS
WHAT GIVES
Im using Garmin dk1.2
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I have Palm Threaded running just fine on my Tilt. I'm currently running Dutty's 29APR ROM, and have also had it running smoothly on the L26 V9 ROM.
How do you back up one screen??
I got this working great on my samsung i620(windows mobile 6 standard), but I got one question, how do you go back one screen? After I reply a message, I can not go back out to the main screen to select another message from another person. I have to close the program then re enter to access to other messages.
Thanks

FYI: The second link appears to be broken.
I have a Treo 750 with the Palm messaging app on it in the \Windows directory, with my current enormous 12MB \Windows\PalmMsgV001 file...
(I really don't want to ditch all my SMS messages yet, and I have not found an easy way to selectively delete or archive just a portion of them. Know of a way?)
*** Does installing the messaging app you refer to on my 2 GB storage card allow me to get the 12MB file out of main memory and onto my storage card?
I have been looking for a way to do this for some time. I have hunted through the registry to no avail for some type of path reference for the message store file. I have been wondering if the messaging app just expects the PalmMsgV001 file to be located in the same directory as the app is installed in... Thus, to relocate the message store, install the app on the storage card. (???)
Can the messaging app be installed on the storage card and allow me to put the SMS message store file there also?

Sending SMS from PC using Windows Mobile

Hi,
I want to send SMS from my PC using the Windows Mobile connected via Active Sync. Though there are numerous software available to do so, the specific feature I am looking is sending the SMS from excel file in which one column contains the Phone No and another the personlized SMS for each number.
I had searched a lot on the internet and could't find one.
Can you please help ?
Thanks in advance !!!

Hmmm, sounds to me like he wants to spam people rather than sending standard messages - can't think of another reason why you would want to have Excel List prepeared messages. If it wouldn't be meant to send out large amount of SMS, a SMS template would do!
I hate people doing that - here in the US you have to pay even for incoming messages, regardless if it was wanted or not!
Could be he wants to do a blanket "Happy New Year" message to all his friends.
Actually scrub that, you could just do one SMS to already existing contacts very easily so why the need to prepare an Excel sheet.
For remote control etc i use Jeyo Mobile Companion.

Hey !
I am not spamming anything, I want to send personalized SMS to my friends, relatives. etc.
I have to send around 250 SMS on this New Year and has made an excel containing the phone number and the personalized SMS.
Generally in India, people send standard SMS to everybody on such days but I just want to add my personal touch to it !!!
Spamming means to send standard SMS/emails to many recipients, but after reading your reply, it seems that your definition of spamming is very much different !!!
I do have Jeyo mobile, but copy and pasting each number and SMS will be bit difficult.
Hmmm,
I just wonder why you copied / wrote all the messages into an Excel sheet in first place?
As far as I remember, Outlook 2007 somehow supports sending out short messages - it has to be configured once but then it should work just fine.

I had not written all the SMS, just changed the standard SMS according to the person, like his/her name, saluation, etc. Basic text of all the SMS is same.
Excel provides tools like concanate, etc to create SMS with variable fields and that why I used it.
However I can convert that excel file onto .txt file also but the basic requirement remains the same, I want to send particular SMS to particular number only.

I used it and it works like a charm.
I thought there would be some software for GSM also.

Threaded SMS View Time?

Hey, i have Windows Mobile 6.1 and for any SMS thats over a day old, it doesnt show the time, only the date. Is there any way I can see the details of the message or have it so it shows (day/month hours:minutes:seconds)?
Also, is there a programs that backs up the messages, but keeps the threaded conversations structure? Because Im using PIM Backup and when i restore my SMS from a backup, it groups the sent and then the received.
thanks in advance
hate to double post, but can anybody help me?
SMS Database
Hi
I can't advise on the day/date stamp of older SMS conversations. However, in terms of the "threaded" structure, this is only a method of displaying the SMS Messages sent and received. Both Threaded and Standard views of SMS messages sent and received use the same database. I think they're in pim.vol, but others may be able to elaborate on that point.
Either way, I think that if you can successfully back up and restore this database you should be able to display the restored messages in standard or threaded mode.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
thank you,
but i did successfully restore the database,
but when it is restored, the sent and received are grouped.
like this:
before the backup:
sent message 1
received message 1
sent message 2
received message 2
and then after restoring the backup:
sent message 1
sent message 2
received message 1
received message 2
theyre in the right order, just not like a conversation
try spb backup
searching for the same thing since I switched to 6.1 . and the only way I found was to disable the threadview with Advanced Config (or any other programm that can toogle this)..
I read something that other roms CAN have this feature that they display date and time.. but never seen that "live" :/

I too wonder why cant we have the completedetails about the time stamp on the SMS like any ordinary mobile phone has. many a times one definitely feels the need to know these details..
Regarding the backing up the SMS you can use ppcpimbkup by dotfred..It works just perfect...
PowerSMS is free and packs a few extra features... It's what I use personally.

[Q] Is it possible to import sms messages to WP7?

as above
i have some important messages in my touch pro that i would absolutely loathe to lose, and i'm going to buy a WP7 device as my contract expires this month.
can some kind soul with a working device tell me if this is possible, or is there any article that mentions it?
Thanks
I think the myphone service should do it...
http://sn1-p3.myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Start.po?mkt=en-GB
oh...yeah right
i clean forgot about it since i use spb backup more
thanks for reminding me
From what I have seen and tried I can find no method to restore the SMS from an older 6.5 device to a WP7.
Were you able to find a solution?
Nope-- there are even solutions to import WM 6.5 SMSes to Android, but nothing for WP7- it's far too locked down.
thanks for the confirmation, as I have tried a million things and I even looked at the SMS store and it looks too locked down to even write a app to do it.

Nope, WP7 doesn't support Exchange SMS sync (or SMS sync with anything for that matter).
Ironically this was one of the features added to WM6.5 with Exchange Server 2010, yet its successor (if you can call it that) lacks it.
Might get added in a few years' time, once other more basic deficiencies are addressed.
weird that this phone addresses the joe-average user, and I dont deny it, but not having a restore/backup function is poor and a ovesight....

That's correct, one of the best things Microsoft created for WM6 doesn't work with WP7.
If you copy your important SMSes to the SIM card beforehand they will automagically appear on your WP7 handset.
Thought of doing that but couldn't see how to do it on wm6.5 [I have another wm6.5 phone I could copy to sim if it was possible]
wow, surprised to see my thread bumped up
my sms messages run up to the many thousands
not very possible eh?
but then, i guess a suggestion would be to prune them and keep the important ones
