Threaded SMS View Time? - General Questions and Answers

Hey, i have Windows Mobile 6.1 and for any SMS thats over a day old, it doesnt show the time, only the date. Is there any way I can see the details of the message or have it so it shows (day/month hours:minutes:seconds)?
Also, is there a programs that backs up the messages, but keeps the threaded conversations structure? Because Im using PIM Backup and when i restore my SMS from a backup, it groups the sent and then the received.
thanks in advance

hate to double post, but can anybody help me?

SMS Database
Hi
I can't advise on the day/date stamp of older SMS conversations. However, in terms of the "threaded" structure, this is only a method of displaying the SMS Messages sent and received. Both Threaded and Standard views of SMS messages sent and received use the same database. I think they're in pim.vol, but others may be able to elaborate on that point.
Either way, I think that if you can successfully back up and restore this database you should be able to display the restored messages in standard or threaded mode.

thank you,
but i did successfully restore the database,
but when it is restored, the sent and received are grouped.
like this:
before the backup:
sent message 1
received message 1
sent message 2
received message 2
and then after restoring the backup:
sent message 1
sent message 2
received message 1
received message 2
theyre in the right order, just not like a conversation

try spb backup

searching for the same thing since I switched to 6.1 . and the only way I found was to disable the threadview with Advanced Config (or any other programm that can toogle this)..
I read something that other roms CAN have this feature that they display date and time.. but never seen that "live" :/

I too wonder why cant we have the completedetails about the time stamp on the SMS like any ordinary mobile phone has. many a times one definitely feels the need to know these details..
Regarding the backing up the SMS you can use ppcpimbkup by dotfred..It works just perfect...

PowerSMS is free and packs a few extra features... It's what I use personally.

Text Conversations

I have just installed one of the new ROM's (slueths) and I love how text messages now list as a conversation. I've restored my old text's using PPCPimBackup, but when I go to a conversation they are out of order. One particular one shows all of my replies, then as it gets older and older it shows the other persons messages. The dates shown seem to be correct though...
Is there a way to re-order the messages? Thanks.
Clear your inbox in the SMS program and then try restoring the backup again. It works for me, and a fair few other people have had success in the other threads this is covered in.

That seems to have done the trick. Nice one, thanks.
Is it possible to remove/delete single messages from within the conversation?
Erm, is that a no?

Jeyo Mobile Companion

Hi, have you guys notice (to those who are using, who have used jeyo) that it cuts down / shortens a message when it reads from the pc, i think its only on to 160 characters and below are shown up. I wonder and this is my question.. is there a fix for that? I mean i have a couple of text messages who's 3-4-5-6 message lines. and i can't back it up. because if i was to use jeyo, it shortens it from 6 message line to 1!
could you guys suggest an alternative software which offers the same capablities with jeyo? Im really a fan of the app. but not in the back up and restore thing.. I need to back up over 5000 text messages and most of those messages are over the limit (meaning 2 and above message lines)
hoping for a response soon..
cheers and best regards,
If you just want to backup your messages, have you considered something like PIM Backup , or perhaps a commercial solution like SPB Backup or Sprite?
I use Jeyo, and love what it does, but it really isn't a very good backup solution. It is the only program I have seen like it.
Same here, i use Jeyo for sending SMS and tidying up contacts etc but for backup i use PIMBackup.

Messages in threads: bug?

Hi there,
I have had a couple of WinMo devices and like to keep all my text messages.
Everytime I do a hard reset or get another phone, I make a backup with SMSBackup and restore them using this program too.
The problem is that the older messages aren't shown by windows in the thread mode (also not in fe. PocketCMContacts).
These messages come from a winMo 5 device...
I can see the messages when I disable the thread mode, but I find the thread option better and would like to use it.
Does anyone know what I could do to make these messages show in thread?
Is there a conversion needed?
thanks in advance
Maybe this guide will help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420564 ??
It's for PIM Backup but it might be the same root problem with WM Threaded SMS's.
Thanks
Dave
Thanks for the info. Have just tried this, but now the messages show in thread (not all of them, the ones from windows mobile 5 are in the bottom seperately...) but can't view them.
If I select a message, I just get a blank screen with the date and time of the message, but the messages aren't displayed.
If I use fe. Vito SMS Chat, I can see all the messages and they are set to the correct person, but the default windows message program and pocketcm apparently don't recognize them..
Annoying, so if anyone else has had the same problem and has it resolved...

Threaded SMS (Conversation)

Interesting oddity I've noticed with my new HTC Touch Pro.
I'm new to this threaded SMS (been using WM5.0 for years) and I kind of like it, but I also like to keep my SMS inbox clean. (habit over the years).
So when I delete a conversation I expect the messages I sent to be in the "sent items" folder and the messages I received to be in the "deleted items" folder.
The latter appears to be true, I have all of the SMS messages that were sent to me (received) but NONE of the messages I sent are in the "sent items" folder?!?!?
What's up with that?
I know I can disable this new threaded SMS (conversation) "feature", but I kind of like it. I just want to be able to keep what I sent and what I received for archive purposes in case the info is needed in future.
Thoughts?

There is a setting in SMS that you have to set for it to save messages to the sent folder.
Where is the setting?

Can you elaborate on this alleged setting?
Gripe #2...
When you start a new SMS it keeps track of how many characters you have left out of your 160 character quota.
But...
When you are in a "conversation" there is no character counter!
Anyone know if there is a way to turn one on?
Custom ROMs are looking more and more attractive after playing with this new WM6.1 phone for 3 days.
Strange behavior?

PS... In Messaging, Under Tools/Options/Message "Keep copy of sent messages in Sent folder" is checked ON in my phone
Interesting discovery though...
Now I notice when I delete a conversation all messages (sent or received) within the conversation go to the deleted items folder. Not ideal, as I'd like my sent messages to be in the Sent Items folder, but at least all messages are somewhere in an archive.
Now I ask, what is the purpose of the Sent Items folder if nothing is stored there when in conversation mode (except current conversations)?

Its just the way they wrote the program.
I believe there is a reg edit to change your max characters in SMS but as far as it not showing from one interface to another, no fix.

[Q] Anyway to save entire SMS Chat from WM6.1 to PC?

Hey everyone,
I've wondering this for a long time and couldn't find a solution to my problem. I have samsung i780 and have upgraded it to windows mobile 6.1. It comes with the SMS displayed as a chat conversation, which is neat. I want to backup all these conversations, as they are.
When I try most SMS backup software,(like iMobile SMS backup or Godswmobile SMS transfer) they backup all the messages, but they don't save it in a conversation way. They split them into sent or received smses, and its really hard to make sense of things and its tiresome.
Is there any software that can save the entire conversation as they are displayed in wm6.1? (i.e sent-received-sent-received etc)
Or at least someone can think of in this way:
In the conversation window, I can select all, and then copy the messages to Microsoft word or Note. The problem is, it shows very few messages at a time(as the screen is small, so only like 7 or 8 are displayed at a time), and I have to keep clicking on 'Older' to go to the very first sms, which is like a 1000 click before. And its tiresome to copy/paste it in the word, and if one small error, you are pushed back to the very recent sms chat.
Cant I just access the main html/xml file on the mobile where all of this is stored? Anyone knows how to retrieve the file where all your SMS chat/conversation is saved?
Thanks
Okay, I found the software.
Jeyo Software is the one. God, I wish I had known such a software existed before. Its just beautiful.
One more thing, any idea how to restore contacts that were saved as .xml?
Thankx
