Interesting oddity I've noticed with my new HTC Touch Pro.
I'm new to this threaded SMS (been using WM5.0 for years) and I kind of like it, but I also like to keep my SMS inbox clean. (habit over the years).
So when I delete a conversation I expect the messages I sent to be in the "sent items" folder and the messages I received to be in the "deleted items" folder.
The latter appears to be true, I have all of the SMS messages that were sent to me (received) but NONE of the messages I sent are in the "sent items" folder?!?!?
What's up with that?
I know I can disable this new threaded SMS (conversation) "feature", but I kind of like it. I just want to be able to keep what I sent and what I received for archive purposes in case the info is needed in future.
Thoughts?

There is a setting in SMS that you have to set for it to save messages to the sent folder.
Where is the setting?

Can you elaborate on this alleged setting?
Gripe #2...
When you start a new SMS it keeps track of how many characters you have left out of your 160 character quota.
But...
When you are in a "conversation" there is no character counter!
Anyone know if there is a way to turn one on?
Custom ROMs are looking more and more attractive after playing with this new WM6.1 phone for 3 days.
Strange behavior?

PS... In Messaging, Under Tools/Options/Message "Keep copy of sent messages in Sent folder" is checked ON in my phone
Interesting discovery though...
Now I notice when I delete a conversation all messages (sent or received) within the conversation go to the deleted items folder. Not ideal, as I'd like my sent messages to be in the Sent Items folder, but at least all messages are somewhere in an archive.
Now I ask, what is the purpose of the Sent Items folder if nothing is stored there when in conversation mode (except current conversations)?

Its just the way they wrote the program.
I believe there is a reg edit to change your max characters in SMS but as far as it not showing from one interface to another, no fix.

I've come across an burdening issue sending a txt with multiple recipients. Though the grouped chat style text messaging is an incredible advantage, there are some cons and i'm wondering if they can be fixed somehow.
Because of the chat style text messaging, your first outgoing message gets coped to your inbox. Is there any way for the first outgoing message to NOT be copied to your inbox?
This poses an issue for when you are sening a mass/group text message. For example, if i send out "Happy New Year" to 50 people in one text, i get 50 outgoing copies in my inbox.
Suggestions?
i would like to be able to select multiple recipiants while in contacts like the old 8525 instead of having to add each one manually, anyone have a fix for that?

use an app called group sms.
if you go to your sent items folder for sms and delete that message, it will remove it from all the recipients.. easiest fix i found
in wm6 when i went into messages/sms/inbox there would be a complete list of messages sent to me and they would be individual irrespective of where they came from.
now in wm6.1 there is a list of received messages but if i get another message from the same number it puts it inside itself and calls itself
"conversation with" so if you click on a message from 12345 it opens up loads of other messages from 12345.
when inside you can't delete individual messages but you can delete the first message in the inbox but then that deletes all messages in its sub folder.
my question is simple...can anyone advise how i can go back to using the wm6 version of messages/inbox?????
i know theres a boffin out there with the answer
Yep - take a look here and install the "Disable SMS threading" cab file
Hope this helps

Or, you could get off your high horse and help the poor geezer.
thanx dontpanic you are elevated to a god like status in my eyes.....
only upgraded the rom 4 days ago and didn't know this particular thing was called "sms threading" (thats why i couldn't do a search orb3000) i just knew it was bloody irritating..found the cab as you helpfully advised and it works tip top so i'm a happy bunny again.....(amazing how the little things bug us)
Hehe! Its the first CAB I install on a new 6.1 ROM
Simple switch ...
This is how I did it:
Goto --> start-settings
Then click on the "system" tab at bottom
Look for "Text Messaging" and select
Here you can change from "Threaded" to "Classic"
Hope this helps .

Hey, i have Windows Mobile 6.1 and for any SMS thats over a day old, it doesnt show the time, only the date. Is there any way I can see the details of the message or have it so it shows (day/month hours:minutes:seconds)?
Also, is there a programs that backs up the messages, but keeps the threaded conversations structure? Because Im using PIM Backup and when i restore my SMS from a backup, it groups the sent and then the received.
thanks in advance
hate to double post, but can anybody help me?
SMS Database
Hi
I can't advise on the day/date stamp of older SMS conversations. However, in terms of the "threaded" structure, this is only a method of displaying the SMS Messages sent and received. Both Threaded and Standard views of SMS messages sent and received use the same database. I think they're in pim.vol, but others may be able to elaborate on that point.
Either way, I think that if you can successfully back up and restore this database you should be able to display the restored messages in standard or threaded mode.
Cheers

thank you,
but i did successfully restore the database,
but when it is restored, the sent and received are grouped.
like this:
before the backup:
sent message 1
received message 1
sent message 2
received message 2
and then after restoring the backup:
sent message 1
sent message 2
received message 1
received message 2
theyre in the right order, just not like a conversation
try spb backup
searching for the same thing since I switched to 6.1 . and the only way I found was to disable the threadview with Advanced Config (or any other programm that can toogle this)..
I read something that other roms CAN have this feature that they display date and time.. but never seen that "live" :/

I too wonder why cant we have the completedetails about the time stamp on the SMS like any ordinary mobile phone has. many a times one definitely feels the need to know these details..
Regarding the backing up the SMS you can use ppcpimbkup by dotfred..It works just perfect...
PowerSMS is free and packs a few extra features... It's what I use personally.

you sure these restore sms (in threaded view) in the right order?
I hate the Android system of messaging just bcoz I cannot keep track of messages recieved, sent, drafts.
I need some app with the classic views having an Inbox, Outbox, Drafts. The only such app I know is SMS Manager. But the issue with it is it doesnt show the whole msg when its a long one.
Plz help.
Check out Handcent SMS and, whilst you are at it, the gmail small sync SMSBackup+
Not sure if they are what you are looking for but, at risk of teaching you to suck eggs, thought I should mention them.
Sent from my HTC HD2
Chech this one:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-manager/sooco.android.smsmanager.intents
I tried Handcent but it still provides only a threaded view, not the classic view with Inbox/Outbox. I noticed that it breaks down a long msg into a couple or triple of bubbles, which sucks !
Abt the link provided above, I have the same app (as I mentioned in my intro post), which is the only app having Inbox/Outbox, but doesnt display the whole msg, in case of long ones. Now, on 2.1, its giving me a forced stopped error on opening the Inbox, hence turned useless.
The splitting of SMS bubbles in Handcent is odd. I don't see that in received messages. In sent message settings the are two options which might be responsible :split messages and convert to mms. Check those out.
Regarding inbox/outbox view: there is a separate view for undelivered messages : goto main (middle button) settings and look under "more". Probably not what you're looking for although I noticed you did not type inbox/sent.
I know it's not the same as folders with counts of unread.
Good luck with your hunt.

The handcent message bubble splitting issue is wierd, I have not faced it as of yet, been using it for over a month with no issues of that sort

GOSMS is what u need it has everything
Sent from Captivate
Pansi SMS is having this as an option (inbox outbox sent draft folders)
Love the new phone so far with one minor problem. Is there an easier way to delete text messages from the device? As it is now I have to press and hold on each message, then click on delete from the menu that pops up.
Not normally a big deal but if you get alot of sms notifications from various message boards/ texts / etc... its a royal pain to have to manually delete 20-30 messages one at a time like that.
if you go back one screen to the list of contacts instead of the list of individual messages, you can delete all messages from a single contact by long pressing.

Thats the screen I was referring to. My problem is that all of the forum notifications that I get come from a different "number" for each message/thread so they dont get threaded together. When I had my iphone 2G there was a delete all ap that cleared all of the messages at once. I loved that ap and was hoping for something similar, or another way to selected multiple messages at once (with checkboxes) then delete them as a group.
SMS backup and restore in the market for free has a delete all. Also lets you back all up to an XML file and restore, no root needed.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i would suggest using a different mms client. i prefer handcent.
