My problem again is that i cant connect to a second wireless router(no password needed for second router), the 1sth router its password protected (@ my work) ,then i come home and i cant connect because the IP from my work its not gone and theres no way to release/renew
I want to know if theres an app to emulate CMD like in windows (and not a computer needed to do it),i want to do it on my tf instead (dont tell me "turn off/on your router " please, i wont be asking on mcdonalds or burguer king if they can turn off/on their router )or any other place if they can do that so i can release my ip and get a new one
Thats what i want to avoid , so if theres some way to release /renew my ip (and no computer needed) then that will be great
I have revolver rom installed , but this PROBLEM was even on the stock rom ,so is not the rom or the 2 routers, my wifes ipod 4th gen connects right away and always renews ip at any place
Please help me
Thanks in advanced

You can use terminal emulator for "CMD" window.
Just turning off your tablet will reset the wifi and it will scan for a new access point. Leaving the area of the AP at work should cause it to scan for a new one too. If you have hard coded a static IP address in your advanced wireless settings, pick up an app like WiFi Manager from the market to allow you to have multiple profiles and switch between them.

Network settings require root to perform and there are nice apps that do point and tap to set it.

Do you know how to release / renew ip with that program?

Both are DHCP enabled, so i dont know why it wont release it from previous routers , ive tried turning off/on both routers and tablet aswell and the problem persist.
With wifi manager i can make my TF to "release", or forget the las ip ?
Maybe I don't understand the problem, but can't you change wireless connections in the settings/wireless menu? Tap on the new connection?

i cant release the previous ip (my work , protected with password, dhcp enabled)
when i get home i have the last IP (from work), si i try to connect at my home router but i can see i have the ip form work, and theres no way i can release it to get a new onw from my home router.
i can acces my tf options to see what connections are on range and i can connect aswell, but the old ip form work wont dissapear and i cant acces internet or any other web content because i dont have a valid IP and there no way i can get rid of it
so i was asking if theres some way/app/etc etc to get the new ip working from my home router(not password protected)
but i think thats not the problem(open router), mi wifes ipod can connect everytime she gets home, its TF problem
If you need to get a new IP, turn on airplane mode, then turn it off. Simple as that. You're seriously overcomplicating this.

i have not tried that, i will take the TF to work today and se if that works
on a side note; im not overcomplicating anything, im trying to get help for something i dont know, im just a new TF user
thank you for the advice and i hope it works
Also, just in case, you may want to check that you don't accidentally have a static IP set on your device. Sometimes its easiest to avoid problems by simply deleting the network profile from your Transformer (or "forget" the network in Wifi Settings), and then attempt to re-connect again fresh.

Its set to DHCP so i know thats not the problem, i guess the problem rely on the routers, maybe i need to add password to my home router and see if keep getting the same problem, but as i said before i will have problems on every open wireless network maybe
As alluded to, the work IP falls out of range and hunts for a new AP.
Do you have MAC filtering?
OT: Why do you have an open home net?

i know it have to look for a new ip, but no its not doing it on my home network, thats why im having problems
as i said before, what am i gonna do when i try to connect to another open network ?? (ask them to turn off/on their routers , ask them to put password)
i dont know if this only happens with my router, i will try all the advices when i get home tonigth and see what happens
It’s (most probably) not the TF.
My work has both Open/Secured APs. It connects to the Secured as soon as it’s in range/awake, unless I manually hook it up to the Open. Same at Secured home, it connects no-mess/no-fuss.
How many Open nets do you ‘see’ at home?

just my network it's open, but my wifes ipod can connect/disconect as fast as you say with you network, it's just the TF not getting the new IP everytime i get home from work.
i was so freaking mad 2 days ago so i did a full wipe, that did the trick , i didnt have lot of apps that's why i did it , but i dont want to do it again and get all my apps lost one more time
nop !!!
none of the above advices worked , im so sorry for the guy saying i was overcomplicating this, and no , the airplane mode dindt solve it either
so i dont know wth can i do , the problem again is that i cant get a new IP, my last ip it's still not released (not even with airplane mode) , turnit off/on the device and tablet wont solve it either
i did the test with my wifes ipod (took it work then comeback)and it works as it should, just the TF doesnt work
so if i can do it with with terminal emulator (to release/renew IP) i will appreciate the step by step guyz
thanks in advanced
If you're using DHCP, under GNU/Linux the way is to launch the terminal emulator and run
Code:
dhclient -r
and then either restart the network interfaces (different between distros) or to run the DHCP client on the interface (in my tablets case, probably 'dhclient wlan0' without the quotes).
BUT!!! This being an Android tablet rather than a standard GNU/Linux system, has no dhclient program as far as I know. I have access to ifconfig, dhclient, etc by way of having Debian stable programs running in a chroot.
You might try disabling WiFi, forgetting the network, and reconnecting to it. The last router I had also had a way of getting rid of leases manually, either by telling it to tell the client to FO or deleting them all.
EDIT: Give or take specifics, I think the TF101 (or at least Prime) has dhcpcd. Try
Code:
dhcpcd -k wlan0
dhcpcd -n wlan0
to release and then renew. No promises if that will do jack though. You might also just try running 'dhcpcd wlan0' (without quotes).
For terminal emulators, go to the market or check if your ROM has one (Prime does).

You really shouldn't have to go through any of this stuff. I'd say the system is borked, maybe the hardware, maybe the software. You could try flashing a new version or just take it back, show them you can't connect to their network and get a replacement. It really works as easily as we say and as easy as the wife's ipod. I would take it back or send it in for repair, I think you have a broken system.

well i cant do that , i bougth it from ebay , i dont think its the TF itself, maybe the router (but the ipod works :S )
i will try and see if it happens on some other open network, or just replace the modem
It seems to have vanished in ICS. How do you connect to a you password protected home router? With gingerbread, I would use the wps button connection to connect automatically but I see no such configuration in wifi settings in ics.

You have never used wps or other easy wireless configuration? I had it on my phone with gingerbread but lost it with ics.
Most people prefer a more secure wifi access method.
It seems most people here have difficulty identifying the question asked by the OP.
The OP is referring to Wifi Protected Setup. Yes i think it was removed.
While it certainly made wifi security easy, it is my suggestion not to use WPS as out was cracked back around December.

No it was answered in the first reply. At least the way he worded his question.
My reply was pointing out the same fact as the other poster. The fact that WPS is completely unsecured since Dec. So most people don't even try to use it hence why its not talked/cared about much.

You should setup your wireless networking gear (home router and all wifi devices) to use WPA2-PSK and a strong passphrase. When everything else is in place, you can input the same passphrase on the wifi setup dialog that shows up when you select your home network in the TF101 WiFi preferences screen.

As stated by other posters, WPS is utterly insecure and it should never ever be relied upon for proper WiFi security.
That said, I don't recall WPS ever being supported on the TF101 even under Honeycomb (I could be mistaken, though, since my WiFi network equipment doesn't support it).
I happened to be goofing off with my WiFi the other day and I saw that when you go to Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced (in the top right corner) there is in fact an option to use WPS on the tablet with ICS. Find your router name, tap on it, then a little check box with show advanced options. Select WPS and choose button. Then hit the button on the router. Worked for me just fine.

May I ask why WPS is so insecure? My router has a WPA2 protected SSID, but I used wps to setup my wireless printer. It seems to only be" insecure" when it's enabled and looking for a device, which is timed to be on for no more than 2 minutes. I don't think vultures are waiting for those two minutes to connect to your router. Or is there another danger?

this is like kindergarten chit-chat. totaly lame thread.
WPS is NOT a replacement of WPA it's not a security feature at all!
if you have WPS on ON ROUTER you still need to choose open/wep/wpa/wpa2
as the name could suggest, S stands for Setup and that's what it is. WPS will connect you without need to search for the network in the list of available networks, or even knowing the network name and if there is password, it will fill it in for you. it's an easy setup where you don't need to know password or the name of the wifi network you are connecting to.
another thing. you can't talk about vulnerability in reference to the wifi client - phone. it's the router which is vulnerable. If your car has weak remote central locking, throwing away your remote key transmitter will not make it much safer.
saying ICS doesn't have WPS because it's hackable is wrong. if a coffee place desides to use WPS their net is hackable, it's their concern. I still want to be able to use it as this safety issue doesn't affect me as a wifi client.
and thought ICS has this complicated way to get to the WPS, it's missing the point of WPS as you need to know which wifi you are connecting to, and click many times to get to the option. not easy setup at all. and the indicator of WPS availability is missing too. If I came to a coffee place and saw the icon I told them to keep their password and push the button instead. now I don't know if they have WPS.
So there is still an issue.
But maybe the ICS phone is listening for WPS all the time I didn't test this.
EP: your question is in place.
if it's your network, make sure you update router to latest firmware, as this vulnerability has been already addressed in most of the routers. Or keep it OFF until they'll make update to it.
it is NOT only those two minutes after you push the WPS button, but it's hackable all the time.
WPS can be used different ways, you can enter pin of client to be allowed in into router, or pin of router into client, or just push the button and no pin at all.
so the pin works all the time, that would still be fine, but a certain template was found in those pins, which brought the possible number of choices low enough to use brutal force attack to get the correct pin. that's the safety issue. nothing to do with the phone.
ok this may be a simple thing im overlooking. at my work whenever i connect to wifi it asks for identity then password. with the photon it never asks for identity or i cant find a option to type the identity in therefore i cannot connect to wifi at work. it really sux cause i get bad coverage at work and rely on wifi. i know on some HTC phones i had in the past it would make me set up a screen lock for some reason before connecting, not sure if the motorola has some trick too but i cant figure this out and sprint customer care isnt much help either. anyone have any ideas?
Unfortunately you didn't specify the type of wifi your work uses?
It's obviously something beyond WPA/2... So what is it?
I found this thread on PEAP. See post #5 for a potential solution... Perhaps this will help with PEAP and other types? I'm not very familiar with the more advanced, enterprise forms of wifi unfortunately.
the main one i always connect to just says 802.1? some do say wpa and wep .. sorry im not familiar with the terminology of wifi networks. i just know i always hit connect and type the identity and password and im on.
ill try that app mentioned in the link.. thanks!
that worked! first phone ive owned were i needed a app to connect to a wifi network..
Okay so here's the dilema my dad changes the wifi password after we argue and I'd love I if I could find a way to get the password without him knowing.
I'm on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 And i am rooted
I usually use his laptop when he's not around and get the password but that's not an option for the time being. Thanks in advance.
The Wifi Type is WPA2 PSK
The router is a Netgear
The modem is a Motorola
P.S. I do t have access to a computer but I do have physical access to the router and modem and I'm new to the forum please let me know if I posted this in the wrong g place.
See into wifi manager that the Router has (Wps Available)
Then there is a Solution for it...
Just Go near the Router and press the Wps Butten and Connect from mobile...
And you done
I tried many times...
Sorry for bad english

I just assume that you have multiple computers at home that are connected to your network. I've come across some programs that I used to recover our network password when I was younger, all you need is a usb drive and those programs. I believe the site was called nirsoft or something .
!!Those programs may be identified as viruses as!!

If your router DOES have WPS, then this is a good quick and clean call and should be sure to remember to click "thanks" on Xpid3r's post.
If it DOES NOT have it, then give us a little more info:
1.)when he changes it, who and what does he update other than his laptop? - sometimes people are easier to bride, sweet talk, or otherwise crack than devices... Would mom, brother, roommate, friend etc. get the updated password? If not, what other devices get updated? anywhere the password is saved is a potential entry point. For example, if YOU were keeping the password from HIM... Then he could get it from your galaxy s5 NOTE:I can't post a link, because I'm new here. But if you google "recover wifi password from android" there is a walktrough from hubpages that I've used
2.)Could you borrow a friend's laptop to hack the password? - If so, there are plenty of tutorials around for that (though admittedly that is not a SHORT learning curve)
3.)How visible is the router? I rented a room once and shared Wifi was supposed to be included in the rent. The landlord was a real tool though and, among other issues, he wouldn't tell me the router password so I could do some port-forwarding etc. It got annoying very fast. But he had his router hidden away for aesthetics. So I connected my own router (from my last place) to one of his router's wired ports and then had my own wireless network through the house with its own SSID. I lived there 4 more months and he never noticed it. If your dad's router is tucked away you could probably do the same. Or if you cannot access his laptop BECAUSE he is out of town, then it wouldn't have to be hidden. You could do that type of setup in plain sight temporarily and just take it down before he comes home and get the password from his laptop then. (Tip: if you do this disable DHCP server or YOUR router so they don't fight over who gets to assign IP addresses)
Good luck to you. Let us know how it turns out

you can find the password in options of wireless networks in the father's computer. Do it when the father goes to the toilet or eat , it only takes 1 minute
