ok this may be a simple thing im overlooking. at my work whenever i connect to wifi it asks for identity then password. with the photon it never asks for identity or i cant find a option to type the identity in therefore i cannot connect to wifi at work. it really sux cause i get bad coverage at work and rely on wifi. i know on some HTC phones i had in the past it would make me set up a screen lock for some reason before connecting, not sure if the motorola has some trick too but i cant figure this out and sprint customer care isnt much help either. anyone have any ideas?
Unfortunately you didn't specify the type of wifi your work uses?
It's obviously something beyond WPA/2... So what is it?
I found this thread on PEAP. See post #5 for a potential solution... Perhaps this will help with PEAP and other types? I'm not very familiar with the more advanced, enterprise forms of wifi unfortunately.
the main one i always connect to just says 802.1? some do say wpa and wep .. sorry im not familiar with the terminology of wifi networks. i just know i always hit connect and type the identity and password and im on.
ill try that app mentioned in the link.. thanks!
that worked! first phone ive owned were i needed a app to connect to a wifi network..

Hi all,
I've been searching countless forums for a solution to my problem, and I was not able to find a solution.
I purchased a T-Mobile SDA(USA, aka: HTC Tornado) with the belief that I will be able to connect to my hiome WIFI.
I tried connecting with original rom(T-mo SW 1.9.19.16) and I was able to connect to my access point, and I aquired an IP address, and everything, but internet explorer and Opera Mini browser was not able to connect to the internet. IExplorer keeps on "locating" then times out.
I am able to connect to a HotSpot location through wifi and also my G (GPRS) indicator is always on.
My guess is that TCP/IP use is somehow blocked for anything but T-mobiles HotSpots, and otherwise it tries GPRS(I do not have data plan.)
What I mean is that they restrict me to connect to GPRS or Edge in general, unless there is a HotSpot operated by T-Mobile.
Anyways if someone has an idea, please help me out, since I've spent countless of hours(not quite countless, but more than 48 hours for sure) on this, with no luck.
Please, anything, idea, reg hack, I accept anything.
Thank you.
PS: Now I'm running an iMate sp5m rom (i-mate_SP5m_WWE_1.6.331.6.exe) and nothing changed....
I'm sure this has come up before (try searching) but make sure your internet explorer isn't set to use WAP Network only.
Thanks for your reply...really appreciate it.
I was on a trip in NYC and I had a variety of WIFI spots, and to my very surprise I was able to get online through WIFI.
It seems that I still needed the iMate Rom, but my problem is my home wifi network.
It's weird since I enter my key and I get an IP, yet the connection is still not the correct one.
My next step is to look for a list of access points which have issues with SDAs, and if mine passes I'll start changing settings on my access point and go from there.
Thanks again, and if someone has a link to the list, I would appreciate it if it will post it.
And also if someone knows how to get rid of the GPRS indicator....
Thanks

If you're on WiFi, you should not be getting the G indicator; in fact, change it to E as it should be if on an Edge network (Cingular); look for a RegEdit to do that.
Re: your home connection not working. Are you sure you are on YOUR WiFi network, not a neighbors somewhere? If you have not changed your WiFi name to something that makes sense to you, I suggest you do that to be sure you are trying to connect to YOUR network. I have neighbors that have not changed their LinkSys names to something else, and there is no way for me to tell if I'm on theirs or mine unless my name is something unique to me and that I know.
Hello gyus, my problem when i tried to connect to wifi hotspots i couldn't get connected... i Dont know for sure if they had access to the internet but i could not even establish a connection.the same problem with the bluetooth it couldn't find any bluetoooth device on search) but i probably can't connect to open ones.... Any suggestions?
I have htc touch hd t8282 with wm6.5
thanks very much
Your thread lacks a title and your question is difficult to understand.
You complain about not being able to connect to hotspots but dont give any information about those hotspots.
Most likely they are password protected or have device restrictions through MAC addresses.
Some could have internet but require certain network settings.
You can't find any bluetooth devices? Maybe none are around or the ones that are around are not set to visible.
What do you mean by "can't connect to open ones" ?
im hungry
*EDIT*
best advice would be to search the forum of the ROM you flashed. If no one else is experiencing the problems you are then its probably just a bad flash and I would suggest a re-download and re-flash. Is this a problem since you flashed or just one that started to occur? I tend to agree with all points posted above. Good luck!
Hello. My phone connects when I go to other people's houses or at school, but not at my house. My router is set up with a WiFi access list so that you need to enter the MAC address before being allowed to even see the network. I have triple checked that the WiFi MAC address from my phone is entered correctly as I did everything else. Does anyone have some advice?
I appreciate everyone's time!
Make sure the channel is set to one which your device supports.
I downloaded an app called wifi analyzer; will that help me find which channel to set it to? How do I know which are supported.

Go to the wifi settings (on your device) and see what channel it is set to (usually under regulatory domain).
maybe you should set the maximum number of channels, otherwise some routers might be excluded.
controls which channel is your router and then try to configure the connection manually.
Sorry for the late reply; I have been pretty busy.
I tried a variety of different channels but none of them seem to work. I had seen that the phone does not work on Channel 13 but that did not seem to be the problem. I have also tried changing the security password type on my router but that did not work either. Are there any other suggestions? Thank you again.
your router is wireless network is to advanced for phone allow you network to be seen and just have to enter a password to work it will work been there
ps when it works hit thanks please

I'm assuming you did... but just in case, you did hit the "Wifi Protected Setup" on the phone right?
I swear i'm not trying to make you sound like an idiot, but we all have our "oh damn i forgot about that" moments, know what i mean? lol
Lol no problem. But yes I did do that
i'm also assuming then that you took ALL security off your network, leaving it open with no password, and that didnt work either.
past that, I don't know what to tell you. some routers are better than others.... maybe yours just hates you?
I got my wife a droid charge today which she loves but for some reason the wireless tether from my rezound will not show up on her wifi settings. many other devices detect it including my laptop and even iphones i have unlimited wireless tethering. Im no stranger to rooting so maybe kernel related? I dont know but it dont make sense. Let me stress i dont want to tether with the charge i want it to pick up my rezounds wifi. any suggestions? thanks

thanks but im not real sure how to do that
Go to Settings>Wireless>Wifi, and there should be an option to add a network/connection. I can get more detailed info once I get home, but there is a way to enter in the connection info even if the phone doesn't see the network.
I've also heard of incompatibilities between various wireless chips that could also be to blame, though you'd have to find someone else to duplicate this to confirm that is the case.

If you have DHCP it should fill itself out. Just enter your SSID and hope for the best.

I have had the same problem. When using WirelessTether on my charge I can not get an Samsung Captivate or a HTC incredible to see my SSID..but the laptop connects fine. Anyone know why I cant get the phones to see/connect to my droid charge. I have tried entering info manually on both devices to no avail. Anyone know why it doesnt work?
Judging from the above posts i think we can agree that we found another crap that Samsung took on this phone

I think I've only had one issue not being able to connect to a network. I connect to a large number of WiFi networks and seem to always get a good link (although the WiFi performance isn't all that great- 15mbps one-way.) To resolve the issue I had I think I just pulled the battery from the phone. It may not always be the phone- some access points and routers generally don't work that well, only support some encryption types, fail even though it broadcasts SSID, can drop links, won't authenticate, etc. I deal with bad wireless far more than I care to and I generally quit messing around and run certain model routers with 3rd party firmware because I'm tired of headaches.
Make sure you can connect to your router with other devices.
Power cycle your router.
Pull the battery on the phone.
Enter in the information into Wireless settings. If information is there already, delete the network and re-enter the info.
You can also download WiFi Analyzer from Market and the WiFi Connector Library and just use WiFi Analyzer to manage your networks.
Also, make sure your router is using an unused channel.

thanks but i dont have a router i got unlimitws wireless tether (legally) i run all my devices including laptop from it but this damn charge wont recognize it
What device is the providing the signal? Try changing encryption type.

You shouldn't have to enter in any IP/Subnet info. With Wifi turned on, go into Wireless and Networks > Wifi. There should be an option to add a new network. From there, you would just have to enter in the SSID of the network, the encryption type (if any), and passkey (if you're using encryption).
Okay so here's the dilema my dad changes the wifi password after we argue and I'd love I if I could find a way to get the password without him knowing.
I'm on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 And i am rooted
I usually use his laptop when he's not around and get the password but that's not an option for the time being. Thanks in advance.
The Wifi Type is WPA2 PSK
The router is a Netgear
The modem is a Motorola
P.S. I do t have access to a computer but I do have physical access to the router and modem and I'm new to the forum please let me know if I posted this in the wrong g place.
See into wifi manager that the Router has (Wps Available)
Then there is a Solution for it...
Just Go near the Router and press the Wps Butten and Connect from mobile...
And you done
I tried many times...
Sorry for bad english

I just assume that you have multiple computers at home that are connected to your network. I've come across some programs that I used to recover our network password when I was younger, all you need is a usb drive and those programs. I believe the site was called nirsoft or something .
!!Those programs may be identified as viruses as!!

If your router DOES have WPS, then this is a good quick and clean call and should be sure to remember to click "thanks" on Xpid3r's post.
If it DOES NOT have it, then give us a little more info:
1.)when he changes it, who and what does he update other than his laptop? - sometimes people are easier to bride, sweet talk, or otherwise crack than devices... Would mom, brother, roommate, friend etc. get the updated password? If not, what other devices get updated? anywhere the password is saved is a potential entry point. For example, if YOU were keeping the password from HIM... Then he could get it from your galaxy s5 NOTE:I can't post a link, because I'm new here. But if you google "recover wifi password from android" there is a walktrough from hubpages that I've used
2.)Could you borrow a friend's laptop to hack the password? - If so, there are plenty of tutorials around for that (though admittedly that is not a SHORT learning curve)
3.)How visible is the router? I rented a room once and shared Wifi was supposed to be included in the rent. The landlord was a real tool though and, among other issues, he wouldn't tell me the router password so I could do some port-forwarding etc. It got annoying very fast. But he had his router hidden away for aesthetics. So I connected my own router (from my last place) to one of his router's wired ports and then had my own wireless network through the house with its own SSID. I lived there 4 more months and he never noticed it. If your dad's router is tucked away you could probably do the same. Or if you cannot access his laptop BECAUSE he is out of town, then it wouldn't have to be hidden. You could do that type of setup in plain sight temporarily and just take it down before he comes home and get the password from his laptop then. (Tip: if you do this disable DHCP server or YOUR router so they don't fight over who gets to assign IP addresses)
Good luck to you. Let us know how it turns out

you can find the password in options of wireless networks in the father's computer. Do it when the father goes to the toilet or eat , it only takes 1 minute
