I already have the HTC TP since almost 2 weeks and I'm quite happy with the HTC Touch pro so far .
However I have been a SONY Ericsson P Series user since SE ever came up with the P800 many years ago. After the P990i I thought I'd migrate to WM and I bought myself a Fujitsu Siemens T830 , I used it for a month and I realised that it's too difficult to use with one hand so I bought myself the new SE P1i by then.
After using the HTC Touch Pro for about 10 days, I still think my current Sony Eriscsson P1 is still much better when it comes to one hand operation and ease of executing things quicker than a WM based device.
Today I received a message from Clove.co.uk that they will be starting to ship the new awaited SE X1 on October 6th and asking me if I want one too..
So I was wondering if I should buy also the new SE X1 since it's a Sony Ericsson phone and this phone will supersede the SE P1i and I was hoping that they will somehow implemet the succesful points on the P1 into the X1.
Do you guys thing that X1 is a better phıne than the HTC Touch Pro and if yes why ? I compared the specs basically two phones have identical specs.
Which one would you buy ? Do you think that I should hang on to HTC TP until WM 7 is out ?
I'm open to suggestions
thanks
P.S. If I buy the SE X1 , I will give my TP to my wife . If I don't like the X1 she gets to keep the X1
Well, the Sony has most of what the HTC TP has (not sure about GSensor) but also has 800 X 480 pixels and a larger screen.
If I didn't already buy the HTC TP I would go for the Sony.
yeah if i end up not getting 3g on my TP then i will look to sell and get the X1 if it can.

Doesn't have a G-sensor, but it does have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a bigger screen... The specs look better (384MB RAM!), but the interface is a memory whore so the performance may not be so much better than the Touch Pro. Keyboard on the Touch Pro is better as well.
The sony is out next week! I just received an email from clove.com. I thought it was not due out this fast?!

The X1 has a ATI Graphics Accelerator so everything sould be smooth - and it is if you check the youtube videos.
Damn. I only had my HTC Touch Pro for a week and now I need to sell!
The X1 is also much larger than the TP - this might be a major for some people.
Yea, been watching the videos. Its also a brick. Many metal parts although I hear its built real nice thou. Very sturdy... hmmmm

If you were correct I'd agree, but I just saw a video of a very recent version where they rotated on the panel interface, and the panels skipped and lagged quite a bit going from portrait to landscape... So no, it's not smooth. It's in retail packaging, which I thought was odd.
Edit: Here ya go, this was just posted 4 days ago.

That's one thing I love about it, I like heavy phones and I like metal. It just makes it feel more well-built, even if you know in your heart HTC had their hands on it.
Both Phones have Pro's compared to each other.
Rather than just ordering one, maybe I should test one X1 to decide.
But I heard WM 7.0 is on the way at 2009 , TP and X1 probably cam be rom updated ?
Don't forget: SE announced that this will be their last (WM?) phone. So I doubt that they will give much support in the future.

Nobody knows at this point, I'm assuming so based on the track record of Windows Mobile. It's expected to be late 2009 before the release, so I wouldn't worry about that just yet.

That's the great part, they won't give support to windows-mobile specific features, but the panel interface SDK could be universal. Could be... We'll see if they carry that on over to other devices.

I thought I heard it the other way around as UIQ is having hard time and SE will not continue on P series because of that.....
@Black93300ZX
So let's put WM 7.0 aside for the time being, thanks
I was in doubt too, but eventually went for the TP because even tough a bigger screen is nice, it will probably be incompatible with some apps, i also thought it would be more expensive (it is) and i don't like the panel interface that much.
Another big thing is the community: i guess there is a lot more support for for the Diamond/TP on this forum then for the X1.
Was also doubting between there two. Went for the pro since it was out earlier, I thought the X1 would be more expensive, I liked the looks of the pro more, odd screensize (incompatibilities?), and some more...
But now I'm doubting again to maybe go for the X1 afterall (and sell the pro). Main reasons being the average camera, perhaps SE can make something more out of it, the gps problems and the fact the keyboard reacts sluggish or not at all sometimes (mainly with wifi on).
But as long as no reviews are out, or the phone itself it's too early to make decisions...
Hi,
I might change to the X1, if it had GPS, but it is no option for me without internal GPS. Or am I wrong, does it have GPS?
S.
Sorry for the repetition, could not delete it.
Hi,

Yes it has a A-GPS , same as the Touch Pro.
I still can't decide if I should also buy the X1 ......or not ???

Well, I've had the Touch pro for a while now and I love it to death... But a phone that seems equally appealing is the SE Xperia X1. First of all, would anyone be interested in buying my Fuze... And second, what's everyone's thought on the Xperia? I know for me it seems to be a touch pro with a curved keyboard, but more importantly, something to keep me entertained because it's new. I've loved sony ericsson phones in the past, so a blend of them and HTC seems to be bliss.
Back to the Fuze for a moment, includes 6 screen protectors (bought as a pack from expansys), tv-out, fm radio and headphones, as well as a ton more software to extend its capabilities beyond AT&T's intentions. Also includes HTC leather case, USB cable, home and car chargers. PM offers (if there are any). Thanks.
Forgot, it also comes with an 8 gig microsd card and tons of software (gps, etc) with backups for EVERYTHING.
I think TouchFlo is more functional than the X1's "panels" display, even if it's a bit of a mem hog. But I think a combination of the two would be killer, using the X1 panels as a pseudo Alt+Tab.
For me the major difference would be the Touch Pro's better keyboard or the X1's larger display, and I would personally go with the better keyboard.

Interesting... Well, after using this for 2 weeks I have no qualms with screen size, but I do love the keyboard... Maybe I'll see if I can get one from a store that'd possibly allow a return within a few days and see if the keyboard is to my liking. Thanks for the input.
Black I Know What You Are Thinking!
The SlingBox/SlingPlayer mobile on my mini jimbotron X1 super TV screen, me and my Mets, Black I've been thinking the same thing too.......!(lol)
The Xperia is allready delayed for a couple of months (Dec - Jan) and there are rumors about SonyEricsson breacking. http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7601.html And given the recent economic results might just be true.
But... I used to have P900 and it was the best phone ever!
In all the X1 is a good phone, touch panel is not fully developed as of yet, and video playback is absolutely a negative, fps is very poor, guess these and all other negatives if taken care of xperia is going to be a good phone.
Another negative is the earpiece sound quality.. manageable at half volume..but anything more than half is bad, (this is relative anyway) and overall system sound is low, but it feels very sturdy, and sleek, all aluminium casing except the camera area thats is plastic, keypad is not too bad for small fingered people but a little tiny for big thumbers!
Battery life is pretty good and battery is same as the Sonyericsson P1i.
I have used 3 of this phone , still have the 3rd one now, 2 has been given out (dont ask me how )
there is room for improvement on what obtains of this phone as at now..

Well, availability may not be an issue... I might be able to cop one now. The only thing I don't like is the look of the buttons on the front, I think the Touch Pro is much more attractive aesthetically.
2 thing x1 got on raphael is
1 microSD access without having to open it as it would result in microSDIO cards with ext connectors would only when when raphael is open

Woah it has a 3.5mm headphone jack? That's HUGE to me.
Some reviews I've read say the X1 keyboard feels cheap and cheesy like it's fixing to break, vs the TP's keyboard being very good. My thoughts are there are fewer keys on the X1's keyboard, so I think it'd be easier to type on if they get the hardware fixed.
Another thing to remember is the X1 uses WVGA, which is a non-standard 480x800 screen res, whereas the TP uses standard VGA of 480x640. Some people think the non-standard screen res will cause some app's to not work properly, but I'm not so sure of that. I believe someone could write a 'virtual screen' driver to create a VGA screen inside the WXGA screen area. Any video playback software shouldn't matter...

not sure if you saw my post in the other forum but I have a good friend that works for Qualcomm and he is a cab tester and a proc tester for new upcoiming devices. He got the xperia some time ago and has basically had to get 3 of them. The first the keyboard fell off lol. The second the screen blew out lol. And so far he says the 3rd has so many problems with the hardware drivers and WM that it wont stay stable for very long. Basically his advice was to steer clear for a ling time until a lot changes.
If you like i can relay some questions to him for you if your need to know something specific that he may know.
As a side note, he also had the TP for a long time and said there is absolutely no comparison and the TP wins hands down in all areas. BUT (hehe you knew there was a but), he is an IPhone user DOH!!! So take all that for what it is worth bro.

I was told that the SE was delayed as a result of a lot of complaints from those who are testing it. My AT&T rep got to test one shortly and he also said it was buggy and hard to use without the desire to bash it against a wall from time to time.
I'd wait this one out. But I agree that selling your TP now is the right move. You should be able to make money on it since nobody else has one.

Haha, pending sale for $1,000. It's hilarious, I've also had offers of $350 and $400 from some clowns on here... When it comes out for AT&T, the retail price (no contract) will be like 599-699... Why the hell would I sell it months before release for $350? Seriously guys? I'm not desperate.
That being said, if the sale falls through for a grand I'll let everyone know. I also have offers in the 850-1000 range so don't even consider 500 next time. ;-)

Yeah, after seeing quite a few reviews of the Xperia I realized how lucky I got with the Fuze. The SE is buggy as all hell because it's a pre-release, and it just made me more thankful that this thing has no problems at all. Also keep in mind though, the Xperia isn't slotted till Q1 2009 for release... Hopefully they have more time to work it out.
That being said, I think the keyboard will be a gigantic disappointment compared to the touch pro... Typing and having all of the punctuation available without a function key was the nicest part of the 5 row... Will the bigger screen and less memory-hungry interface (hopefully) make up for it? Well, I hope so... Maybe I'll wait for the AT&T release in Q1 so I can return it within 30 days and get another Fuze.

Just got another for $875, kinda wish I'd taken that $1400 offer when I had it... Oh well :-(
Hi guys,
I have been offer to get one of the next PDAs as a present:
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch HD
HTC Touch Diamond
Sony Ericsson X1
Samsung i900 Omnia 8Gb.
I am a happy owner of a HTC Hermes (SPV M3100) and I love the keyboard, I can not live without one of them anymore. I do also have a personal BT GPS which I link to the PDA and I can use programs like TT7, etc.
I do not know which one of the above to get. Because my used-to-be-a-first-choice, the HTC Touch Pro, is not what I want. I have tried it for a time, and it has great stuff such as the 640x480 resolution screen, the camera, the aesthetic, etc. But the keyboard is soooo small my fingers haven't get used to it.
The Touch HD has great screen, but not keyboard
The Diamond is like the Touch PRO but without keyboard.
The Omnia specifications looks great.... 8Gbs, 5MP camera, long battery last (something the HTC TOUCH PRO does not have...)
and the X1 which has the keyboard, 400Mb of internal memory, huge long live battery, built in GPS, Nice Screen ( 800x480) and a 3.15 MP camera.
Which one would you get?
Does anybody knows if you can flash the ROM of the non HTC ones?
Thank you very much.
Guillermo
i went from himalya and just gotten a x1
played with the diamond but felt the screen were kinda small
and saw x1 panels and pref'd it to flow
happy enough with it but
the non std screen mean that
many games act up there is a tool
which make the screen act as vga
which helps but just dont use the rest
x1 is build by htc so it's prob closer then samsung but
no device can use roms from other devices not
even 2 htc devices
so as i see it this forum will help more for htc devices then x1
and even less for samsung apart from the general forum
havent played with touch pro so cant comment on if it's keyboard is worse
then x1 but reviews and people here say worse
i suspect that there will come a touch hd pro with a keyboard next year
like the touch pro came a bit later then diamond
I´m totally agree with Rudegar:
"i suspect that there will come a touch hd pro with a keyboard next year
like the touch pro came a bit later then diamond"
I was just about to buy the HD, but as a happy Universal user keyboard is a must for me, so I decided to wait for the possible HD touch Pro that I´m also sure it will come sooner or later.
Also have in mind that if you buy a non HTC device you will not have the fantastic support of this site!
Good luck on your desicion!
Hi,
my problem is that I have to choose it right now, and I can not wait for the HTC HD PRO, if anyone where coming. So What I have seen is you give votes for the X1.
I would love someone else give me more advice,
so please, feel free to give me your opinion.
Cheers,
Guillermo
Getting me the OMNIA - it just has everything - well, except for the hardware keyboard! It is a power device with excellent specification. The fear about the non-standard screen resolution, well, is not a big deal since the OMNIA is a WM phone as all the others, so, tweaking it is not harder than tweaking others.
I sure would have loved that the OMNIA would have had a hw keyboard, but heh, I learnt that the on screen keyboard of the device works as good as a real keyboard. And in case I really would appreciate a hw keyboard one day, there are bluetooth keyboards available.

In that case, I would recommend HD if you don´t mind not having keyboard and X1 in case you need kb
Good luck,
I need some help people. I will be upgrading from my N95 this year. I am currently very pleased with the functionality of the phone, it does everything I could possible want, and it does it fairly quickly. I love the Speakers and the multimedia capabilities. So, I wanted to know, if I choose to upgrade to the X1 (Rogers will be getting it this year), how disappointed will I be? I really want a touch screen phone with a qwerty keyboard, so i'm stuck between the X1 and the touch Pro.
I was originally going for the Touch Pro, but I like the larger screen on the X1 and the ability to put Yado or Yada ( forget how to spell it) tabs or what ever in it. Also, there seems to be a large amount of complaints as to the build quality.
I will of course be testing the devices when they are released a month or two from now, but wanted some input. If I ultimately don't like either device I will be upgrading to the N96, selling it and buying the N97 unlocked later on this year.
So I guess my main question is, How disappointed will I be if I choose to upgrade to the X1 or the Touch pro?
Edit* do either of the phones support hand writing? And how accurate is it?
Well...
Both X1 or Touch Pro are great devices, and OS Windows Mobile 6.1 is much much greater than any Symbian OS, appart from that upgrading to any of those you mentioned you´ll have the support of this great site (Not with Nokia)
My personal recommendation would be the X1, and don´t think you will disapointed.
Good luck on your decision!
i went from a n95 to a touch diamond. i still miss the ease of use of the n95. im kinda regretting the decision.
Why not wait for the N97 if you're already so at home with the Symbian OS?
Myself, I can't pick just one phone. I have a Nokia E90 and an O2 XDA EXEC and depending on what I need to use my phone for on a particular day, I put my SIM in the phone most suited for this. And Nokia PC Suite and WMDC both work well allowing me to keep all my stuff up to date on both phones.
I upgraded from the e90 because of the touch screen.
Well, forget to be fine with WM, i am very disappointed.
Wait for n97.
alessio
The thing is, If I upgrade to the X1 or Touch Pro I will get a $650 credit. If I dont I have to pay out of pocket, or upgrade and sell the phone.
I love symbians functionality, but its boring IMO. I like the eye candy of touch flow more.
With the N97, i dont like the Dpad being on the left, and as I stated before, S60 is boring . So I think I may just end up going to the X1.
There are a lot of stuff far worse done by the current HTC or S-E lineup:
- camera
- no call recording
- no stereo speakers
If you (would) use these, go for the N97 instead.
S60 is boring indeed... I've been a symbian S60 user for many years and I don't regret switching to wm 2 years ago... With wm the possibilities are endless...
Most S60 3rd Ed devices are very easy to use compared to wm devices but that's because they're designed to act more like feature phones even though they're actually smartphones. so you may find the X1 or Pro a bit complicated at first but after a while you'll love having a full fledged pc in your pocket

Yes, but when used as a plain phone or as a multimedia device, unfortunately, HTC's current lineup has major problems. This is why I'm not absolutely sure he (she)'ll like the change.
Just remember that although the screen on the X1 may be "bigger" it is significantly narrower, that 480 pixel width occupies a smaller space. The X1 is definately an impressive device, but when compared to my touch pro, the narrow screen and lack of accelerometer were the deal breaker for me.
Mind you I love the panel interface which aaaaalmost makes up for it, but I love my TP and dont regret my decision in the slightest

I find that im just using the accelerometer for playing ball games such as marble maze (similar to teeter I think) on my N95.
I always thought that the screen was bigger on the Touch Pro width and Length? So that means its just longer?
Have you experienced and issues with your phone? And how did the keyboard compare to the X1's?
Do both phones support hand writing recognition?

I got the HTC touch hd, and dont know what your talking about, the camera is great, ot only doesnt have a flash, but what flash on any mobile phone does create good pictures in the dark? I have yet to see a single phone that takes good looking pictures in the dark. I got call recording on it but ok i installed that custom. Stereo speakers are overrated imho, because any phone speakers suck anyway, at least for playing music, you should play music with earbuds, or trough car radio.

Ok, so I can writing something with the stylus, and it will transfer it into text? So I can use it as an alternative text input method?

Just registered here and have my first question. Im getting a smartphone. Suppose I prefer WM based pda-s, no matter the fact I have never had one before. So now I'm wondering which one to buy. The choice is between these two : HTC Touch Diamond 2 and SE Xperia X1. I don't know any of what their hardware parameters mean (processor, memory and etc.) or which one is better. That is the reason why I'm posting this now. To myself I suppose it would be better to have a hardware buttons, D-pad and qwerty keyboard like X1's but really like the more fingertip oriented TouchFlo on HTC. Well, I know from the forum that I can have it eventually on SE X1, so the SE Panels are already taking advantage over HTC. However, X1`s camera performance is way too low and it doesn't have an accelerometer which I think would be rather useful despite the fact the screen rotates when the slider is opened. Have read many reviews and watched many videos with both devices but still can`t decide which one to take. I need my future phone for surfing the internet, skype (mostly using wifi), music, videos and also entertainment like gaming cause everybody get bored sometimes and it's good to have some cool and glossy games... Well. that's from me so I'll be really thankful if you share your opinion and give me a piece of advise.
P.M. - My apologies if I've made some mistakes in the text but English is not my native language...
Welcome to the forum
I really don´t like the design of Xperia at all. I would choose it just because the keyboard
Hi, check out the Diamond 2 section of this forum for more info...
Check out Diamond 2 Spec, you should be impressed
You should ask yourself if you need/want a keyboard on your phone or not...
I would say buy the Xperia and flash a ROM with Manila on it, this is the fingerfriendly software of the diamond 2.
How about Touch Pro 2?
Well, the more I read, the less I know which to take. The question really is do I need a hardware keyboard and its answer maybe is "yes".
About the touch pro 2...I have taken it into consideration but Im sure it going to be pretty expensive when it pops up. In addition it's kinda of bulky and bigger than the X1 and even heavier according to the official info on it. I'll still continue to look around and keep an eye on this forum and the sections about D2 and X1 and have my decision in the very last moment - I'm getting one of them at the end of the next month so I still have some time to think about that. Yet, I suppose X1 would be my new future buddy Thanks to all of you
dont buy X1, coz its kinda poor built and laggy, i have a good experience in wm, and thus far after using X1, diamond, wizard, touch, omnia. I find Omnia to be the best, fastest, and fully working it has all the decent features and its 5 megapixel camera with flash actually works, but it doesnt have support on this site. I will recommend you to see several other brands other than HTC before zeroing on any device.
Salutations!
Sooner im getting rid of my 1 month old iPhone 3G and i want to come back to WindowsMobile.
Previously i had TouchPro and it was reallly good phone.
But now i would like to buy other one.
Which one would YOU choose and why?
QWERTY is a must!
Touch Pro 2 by far. Out of all the phones you listed it has the best specs in every way. And by far the best keyboard.
Some people like the LG eXpo. It has a 1ghz snapdragon processor, a sort-of dpad under the screen, and apparently a projector though I have no idea what you'd use it for.
But the Touch Pro 2 has a good number of great ROMS for you to experiment with, and a very functional and usable Android port.
And it tilts. I never thought I'd care about the tilting until I actually started using it. It's a great feature. You can tilt it and put it on your desk and use it like a mini-laptop. Lots of fun.
As a TP2/HD2/TP/Diamond user, the TP2 has the best keyboard, but you may want to consider the HD2, the screen is just so, well, HUGE
The X1 has been succeeded by the X2, but there is no XDA support for that, i love the tp2 on Deepshining X6 6.5.5, it is the nicest device i have ever used, but you sould choose for yourself

He said QWERTY is a must In this case I'd take the TP2 as well. From what I heard about SE it seems they are not very good in building stable WM devices...
TP2. best qwerty among those 3. forget about the X1.
oh there's also a new Samsung with QWERTY. Samsung have great hardware but their ROMs/Software are full of junk and instable like no other.
X1 is not bad though rather old, therefore compared to new phones the hardware cannot compete anymore
X2 gets good grades on manufacturing and seems faster (though having the same cpu as X1), but looses all because of the currently very bad firmware, additionally there is no h-spl for it yet, so all owners are stuck with stock (for who knows how long)
so you better pick one of the other phones
good decision btw to swap your iphone for wm device
cheers

Trust me, the the on screen keyboard is awesome on the HD2, but the TP2 fits the bill for you, if you can, get a RHOD300, full 288MB ram useable
I'm almost tempted to suggest we do a swop. Your iPhone for my Touch Pro.
Never have I been able to connect to anything other than a WEP wifi network with it. Was with friend the other day. Connected to both a WPA network and to The Cloud, without so much as a twitch.
Me? fiddle with this, fiddle with that and nothing (Stupid greyed out PEAP/Cert box, in WPA settings. Searched the net till I'm blue in the face with that one).
Come on, sit outside my house next time I'm doing some internet banking, why don't you.
I've never used the keyboard either. iPhone has all the apps of course, one for everything. With WM it's a case of fiddle, fiddle.
What doesn't the iPhone have that I'd miss..... ermmm an FM radio!
