Can I flash Radio without running HSPL - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hi,
I have problem in locking GPS after upgrading to WM6.1 from HTC. I stay in Singapore.
I read many threads and understand GPS locking problem could be due to Radio version and also different Radio version for different countries.... I'm confused and have no confident in proceed further as I also read a lot of problem in flashing ROM. Wonder is it possible to flash ROM without running HSPL? any other solution for GPS locking instead of Radio issue?
The current status of my TyTnII shown in Device Information as follow:-
ROM Version: 3.29.707.o WWE
ROM date: 05/07/08
Radio version : 1.65.16.25
Any expert advice please..

Additional information: I stay in Singapore.

Ok, to flash anything to youre device, you will need to install HardSPL, this will then allow you to flash a new radio to youre device. Radios can be found Here
Following this you will need to flash youre old SPL to youre device. These can be found Here
Sam

You must Hard SPL to Flash anything (except ROM's released by your carrier).
Read this wiki page and follow the steps: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
This will guide you through unlocking your phone so your can flash it.
Thanks
Dave

I thought you don't need to have hardSPL to flash radio since all the radios are official releases? Besides all Singapore cellphones are unlocked.
Can some experts confirm this?
If it's alright to flash then I'll recommend KAIS_RADIO_ONLY_1.71.09.01
The GPS locks under 10 secs. Fastest I lock I got was about 2.5 secs
Reception is also very good

You flashed KAIS_RADIO_ONLY_1.71.09.01?? So, you run HSPL? seems very tedious and also risky..

No. I mod everything lah.
But if you have the need to send in for repair within the warranty period can still flash back to the official one and return it. Flashing it back to the official rom is the easiest part cos only need 1 file and run once

Bro,
I'm green la, no experiences, since we are kakilang, need your advice:-
a) Do you have battery sucking problem?
b) You run HSPL, you got white screen or tri-color problem? did you run JumpSPL?
c) You use HSPL3.29? Tried HSPL3.56?
d) Flash back to official rom is by only one file? which is it?
Sorry to ask so many question. Surely you can answer la. Wait for it
Thanks.

I try haha
a) nope..never had that problem.
b) I didn't have that problem. You'll need to run JumpSPL first that flash with hard SPL
c) I use HSPL3.56 and it works fine.
d) This file

Singapore ones use the SEA versions listed in the Country column
but before flashing need to follow the instructions first. Though I'll suggets you send in your phone to check for problems first before you flash jsut in case haha

I don't understand where people get the idea that an unlocked phone will allow you to flash any ROM or radio to your phone... An unlocked phone is only "carrier unlocked". This means you can switch your sim card for another companies' sim card and use their service. You will still have to mod your phone to change the software (ie. HardSPL). This does not matter where you may live. Places like Europe have laws in most areas that restrict companies from selling carrier locked phones but not phones with locked software. I hate that here in North America we have carrier locked phones. If I bought a phone for $600 or more and decided to switch carriers, I would be forced to change phones and toss my old phone. It is different if you were to switch from TDMA/CDMA to GSM as not all phones can connect to both systems, but staying on the same system we still get kicked in "the junk" and are forced to buy a new contract and phone. That is why I hate locked phones.

Warning for Newbies

Hi Guys,
i pointed out that if you have G4 you wont be able to bring it back to the original stand-so you will loose your warranty in any case if you update your G4 model with new ipl/spl cause so far i know there is no way to downgrade it again. You wont be able to install original Software until your device is CID locked and there is no solution for cid unlocking for G4 so far.

There is no free CID unlock, it's different
And you be able to install original software but not able to install official Operating System from other country , really different.
you can flash any Rom you want without any CID unlocked, just you can't downgarde the SPL, so just remove the SPL from any rom, so you are the Newbie here, there was a lot of threads bout this, sorry
IPL SPL, the software that runs the hardware, it is like bios of the motherboard or firmware of any hardware, it is important to update them

ähm sorry...but in any case -then tell me please how to get back the warranty it is not possible or?if you update ipl/spl what happens normally just by updating your os with the files you can download from here-gullums etc. then there is no way back to install the original updates from o2.Sure you can CID unlock for money- who wants that?i want it for free but there is no solution. So i started this thread juust to warn noObs not to update cause there is no way back without paying.got it? also i flashed my phone without ipl/spl i ve never said it doesnt work but i guess doing that wont give back warranty cause they also check ipl and spl and see that the device has been upgraded with some other versions->warranty gone.So instead of telling me what to post and saying that im the "dumb" you should bring solutions or simply not comment this thread-cause nobody could helped me with my problem i got no answers,so now to answer this thread is anything but not useful-sry guys my opinion

thank you for this thread but i already know it,even it is possible to install the different os versions without CID lock by following steps in this thread you wont be able to use the updates provided on the O2 site and IPL / SPL is still different to the originial ones-i wanted to sell my phone i have 1 year warranty left but i guess it doenst matter-who would buy a prophet with warranty if O2 would say it as none, cause it has being modified and who would buy a prophet if you are not able to install original software without spending money for this or something like that.but thx for your help
online warranty, will check the SPL? is that what you mean?
you may wait for my solution to write SPL using pdocwrite,
IPL can be downgrade without any problem, only spl has the problem, and if you write the SPL using pdocwrite, and install all using nb2nbf it will be again your old phone
SPL has nothing to do with OS, if you just install os.nb and extention.nb, no one can check it online,
I think, you may download your o2 orginial rom, and extract the nb files, make new one without only SPL it will work and maybe the supports guys will not notice, it will be your phone again
untell I write how to write the SPL using pdocwrite, if you restore your old SPL even the HTC support can't notice you istalled other roms
I had 2 modified prophet back to warranty and they don't check the IPL/SPL stuff.... lol do you think they care about that ? And spend a tech to check dead devices for boot loaders ? no way
Maybe HTC do, but then they don't care anymore.
You just have to put your old rom back.... if you had back it up or are able to find a download that suits.
@paradis_pal: if I understood correctly, your solution will downgrade the IPL/SPL but with a higher version number to fake the protection, so it will still appear as modified
no, using pdocwrite will flash 2.20 again
and you misunderstood me, I was writing what charliess was thinking, I think no one will check the SPL as you wrote, if you read my first post in this thread you wouldn't misunderstood me

bootloader question

masters!!! hi!! i have an o2 exec here.
i've read some articles here and in wiki for upgrading my device. howver, i havent seen a thing about bootloader.
these are my device's info:
rom version: 1.30.107 wwe
radio version: 1.09.00
ext rom version: 1.30.162 wwe
bootloader: 1.00
my question is, do i need to upgrade my bootloader first to 1.01 before doing an upgrade to wm6?
in connection with this, i believe my device is g3 (please correct me if i'm wrong), will IVAN rom work on G3? how about Rom Update 2.07.04.BL, will it work on g3? there are no information on their threads if these are for g3 or g4...
thanks for those who can help me.. thanks again!
Yes, You need to upgrade to BL 1.01
By Default all of the ROM's work on G3 devices unless stated. Even the ones that state that they work on G4, work on G3 as well. I have tried all of the mentioned (and more) on my G3 device and they all work.

Hi Everyone
I too would like an answer to iamwin's question . . .
I still have Bootloader v1.00 on my Xda Exec and I've loaded "2.07.05.BL from Beasty & Laurentius" on my device - not even knowing that it may or may not be necessary to update the bootloader . . .
I am confused as to whether my device is G3 or G4 and which is a G3 Rom and which is a G4 Rom and what is the significance of updating the bootloader on the device, since I've already flashed a WM6 Rom on a Bootloader v1.00 device, would it have any repercussions
-EDIT-
I read that some forum member's device have bootloader 2.01 - is it better to upgrade to the newer bootloader version - but is it available for download?
-END EDIT-
Cheers
SHK
Bootloader 2.01 is What Is Displayed On G4 Devices After Bootloader Update.
On G3 The Update Shows As 1.01.
I Believe Thats Correct Neways.
I was on BL 1.00 on my first try to upgrade to a WM6 ROM. All went well.
The SPL upgrade is meant to Super CID the device to make it compatible with the different modified ROM's available other than the shipped ones. Other than that, it was supposed to SIM unlock the Universal for subscribed users to telco's. I assume that you're on Globe or Smart and your SIM is already unlocked.
I see no other point other than the above that would make the Universal better or faster or more stable by applying the SPL upgrade, except maybe for troubleshooting purposes where a tool requires a modified BL.
Based on experience, I started not being able to flush ROM's with the SD Card inserted since I did the SPL upgrade.
My advice is to try the upgrade at it's current BL version and upgrade SPL or SIM unlock only if you are unable to proceed with the upgrade.
Cheers (Kabayan)!
P.S.
Btw, OS ROM selection is a matter of taste & usage. Determine the main use of your Uni & check for the ROM with no bugs exhibited for that main purpose. I hope video call is not among your main thing coz your going to be disappointed. Would be easier to go through the threads specifically the first page where bugs & fixes are mentioned. All of the new WM6 ROM's with OS CE core 5.2.1921& above are fast & stable except for some minor bugs here & there. All of the new releases runs on either G3 or G4.
@rhmartin
woW!! thanks kabayan!
i have already downloaded the patched ruu, which i believe is the right tool for upgrading. if i am correct, this patched ruu will bypass cid checking right?
so if im to upgrade, i'll just put the *.nbf file (rom) to the folder of the patched ruu (extracted). please correct me if im wrong,
salamat po!!!
Thank you!!!
Yup, the patched RUU is in the form of an exe file like this: *_noID.exe.
For starters just upgrade the OS ROM. The radio ROM (radio_.nbf - version 1.15 is preferred) can follow later, applying the same procedure upgrading the OS ROM.
Both ROMs can be updated exclusively (separately) from each other!
Good luck 'tol!

I have a Qtek 9000 with bootloader 1.00 and have flashed it numerous times. There may be other (brand name) factors which may lead some to conclude that it is necessary to upgrade. If you try to flash with the older bootloader, I beleive that the worst would be that the process would self-abort, leaving your existing ROM in tact. Safest to have the OEM ROM available and ready before you try, just in case you need it.
Please help me upgrading the Bootloader to anything over 0.6
I got an JasJar for ROM testing, - however, I cannot flash it using http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Bootloader
nor does it work with _noID
there is no progress bar, but I get "success message" really short after. Cold reset does not help, bootloader is still v0.6

..maybe somebody can provide an older bootloader ?
found the error - now upgrades work fine.
The error was caused by a massive overdose of bloatware and spyware, called Windows Vista, wich I recently got infected by, because my I got new PC at my workplace.
the simplest and best solution is to find and install a OS that's a OS, not a pile of junk.

The basic is that all shipped ROMs are one flashable NBH file. To manage that file you need two apps. One called NBHExtract to extract the content of NBH file into NB files (search here for it) and htcrt to pack the NB files you need into a NBH. If you need to flash only the OS, then take the 03_OS.NB and pack with htcrt. The use Kaiser CustomRUU to flash the OS only.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers.
Hi, I have downloaded the dutty rom and run the NBHExtract program and its extracted 2 files, now I have used the htcrt and that has created a NB file which I understand that I have to now use the Custom RUU file. Will this just flash the OS file and keep the radio etc? the reason I ask if that I have the Orange UK TYTN 2 and I know that if mess with the Radio file then it will SIM Lock the device. Unless someone else can tell me something else. Does what I have done sound right and will it now work on my TYTN2 without it being unlocked?
I have flashed my UK Orange TyTNII,
Firstly and most importantly i flashed HardSPL which you can find in one of the sticky's, connect your phone and run the .exe file and follow the instructions to install it.
Once i had done that i downloaded the HTC Original Rom, using Winrar i took the NBH file out of the HTC_Original_ROM.exe and placed it in a file. Then using NBHExtract i decompiled it into it's sections (Splash Screen, OS, Radio, SPL, IPL) then i repackaged just the OS.nb back into an NBH file and flashed that to my phone.
Using this method i only altered the OS and I have HardSPL installed for protection against bad flashes.
I did not have any problem with the Phone asking for a SIM unlock code
Hope that helps
Cheers

HI,
I am thinking of getting a TyTNII on Orange UK, but because I will be travelling abroad, I want to be able to use local sim cards.
I understand that Orange phones are locked down, what would I have to do to make it 'sim free'?
Do I need to flash the rom as described above?
Also, why is it not good idea to flash the original HTC ROM? The 'sim free' TyTNII can take any sim, whats changed in Orange models?
Thanks in advance for you help.
T-mobile is the same
I would like to get the HTC rom on my Vario III not for simlock just because most of the time the rom is just more stabel how do i do this already flashed my old vario once from wm5 to wm6 but its bin a long time since i have bin here anny help?

On the Orange TyTnIIs there are two types of locks:
a) CID Lock
b) SIM Lock
The CID lock stops you from loading a replacement ROM on the device.
The SIM lock stops you from using a non-Orange SIM.
The free HardSPL software handles the CID lock issue, allowing the ROM to be replaced.
The SIM lock issue cannot currently be fixed with a free solution. There are people on the forum who can SIM unlock it for you for about 20 quid. This will allow you to use any network's SIM in the device, but in general, has little to do with the ROM upgrade issue (though see next caveat).
If you simply run HardSPL to deal with the CID lock, you can now install a new ROM. However, if you blindly install a ROM that contains a different radio rom to orange's radio rom, then the device will behave as if any SIM, including an Orange SIM, is invalid. To get around this you have two options:
a) Only install a ROM which has no radio rom in it, but only changes the Operating System rom, or
b) pay someone 20 quid so that the phone is SIM unlocked, so that when you run HardSPL and install arbitrary ROMs you have no risk of the above problem occurring.
I went with a), and simply ran HardSPL then installed Sleuth's ROM since it doesn't have a radio rom in it. This worked fine; it replaced all Orange's crappy customisations and works.
Solution a) is not what you are after though. You basically want to use a non-Orange SIM, which means you have to SIM unlock it. This doesn't require the use of any software like HardSPL or any ROM upgrades, but *does* require a 20 quid payment to some bloke (via the horrible paypal system, and apparently he wants a copy of your passport/ID for his safety, which ruled this out for me - I'm happy to pay 20 quid, but certainly not happy to be sending my passport details to men in the shadows). Here's his URL - apparently it takes minutes and is done online: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Hope that helps.
Thanks alot divert, that explains it well.
I take it that the same is true about T-mobile version as well?
I have bought my HTC TyTN II from Orange Netherlands and the ROM language is dutch... therefore I'm struggling to learn as much as possible from this forum how to change the ROM with a WWE one.
This thread is more closely to my situation and I dared to intervene...
So far I understood that first I have to install HardSPL to be able to change the dutch ROM. This is clear to me. Then I have to choose a ROM version (without Radio in it to avoid locking the SIM). Can you help me in this matter to suggest me a stable english ROM? (also the download link if is possible ).
Then I have to install this ROM. Considering that I never did this before I am a little bit afraid not to permanently damage the phone (is it possible?). Some things are not clear to me.
Do I have to dump my dutch ROM before I install the new one or not?
Is it possible to back up the dutch ROM and in case something goes wrong to restore it?
Is not knowing the dutch language a problem during the installation?
What is the simple and safest way to install the new ROM .. can you please have the patience to guide me step by step in this matter? I would really appreciate this...
Thank you!
Later edit: I can PayPal...

As I said, I installed Sleuth's ROM, since that does not affect the radio. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343867 - he's put a download link there.
Someone else said that Dutty's Rom also does not affect the radio. Here's the thread for that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341879 - I have not tried it though, so I can't confirm. If an Orange UK user does try it, please post your results in this thread so that other people can be reassured it works.
Another user, kyphur, is keeping a nice list of current Kaiser ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343198 but it's not clear from that thread which ROMs don't affect the radio. I had to go and read the individual ROM threads to find out. I repeat, Sleuth's ROM does not affect the radio, and someone else tells me that Dutty's Rom doesn't either.

I did not back mine up, because I wasn't sure how to restore it, so I just took a risk (silly, really, but fortunately it all worked). Someone did put instructions on how to do all this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066 but I was too lazy to do it.

I don't know anything about the Dutch Orange phones. I only know about the UK Orange phones from what I have read on the forum and from my own experiences. I can't confirm that Dutch Orange devices have the same SIM lock issue as UK Orange phones. Even if they don't, though, I'm reasonably sure the same upgrade process will be fine for you, as it only upgrades the Operating System (OS) ROM.
When I did the upgrade, all the instructions were in english and on the PC, not the phone. You don't need to read anything on the phone itself, so I would say no, the fact that the phone language is Dutch should not be an issue. I assume the hardware is the same (though perhaps you have a different keyboard layout, and I don't know enough about the OS to know if this is an issue). If someone else knows better, please say.

All I can tell you is what I did - remember this is for Orange UK TyTnII:
ORANGE UK TyTnII Rom Upgrade Steps:
First, try to read the Stickies at the top of this forum. Even if it doesn't make a lot of sense to you, there might be something important to you there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
Download Kaiser HardSPL and follow the instructions.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Download a ROM that only affects the OS. I used Sleuth's.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:

That's it. It's actually pretty simple despite sounding very scary. This is thanks to the clever people on this forum making these tools for us (thanks guys)

This thread is about changing the TyTnII Orange UK Rom, not SIM unlocking it. Nevertheless, your question was answered as part of post #7, which you should probably read.
In summary, there is currently no free solution to SIM unlock your Orange UK TyTnII. You can pay someone GBP 20 to do it for you: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php

**NEW** [5-11-08] Kaiser 1.65.20.29 Radio Only

This is the radio only NBH. Please flash at your own risk. I have no idea as I dont currently have a device to verify that this also locks you to the radio as the previous radio from Hell. Once again, please flash at your own risk. I advise to be Security Unlocked prior to flashing anyway.

It appears that this radio does not have the "locking" bug as reported in the 1.65.17.10 radio. So, enjoy.
**THIS RADIO WILL NOT REMOVE THE 1.65.17.10 RADIO. UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE STILL STUCK WITH IT UNTIL A SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND. SOME OF THE BEST MINDS IN THIS FORUM ARE WORKING ON IT. PLEASE BE PATIENT.**
Guys be carefull.. I have 3 Tilts but all are security unlocked. Cant test... but newbies DONT FLASH THIS RADIO UNTIL WE FIGURE OUT WHAT THE DEAL IS!

Very well said. Thats why I added the warning. Also stated I advise security unlocking regardless.
Can 1.65.17.10 be changed to this radio?
I just saw this post after I posted on the another thread. By the way, could someone with 1.65.17.10 please report that if you can upgrade from the first version of the radio from hell ? And I also would like to know if your phone is "Security Unlock" or not.
Thanks in Advance

I posted on the original ROM thread, and although hesitant to be redundant, this is more relevant here...
I am security unlocked but this is the process I just validated:
- Started off on 1.65.17.10.
- Flashed up to 1.65.20.29 (radio Only)
- Flashed down to 1.65.17.10.
- Flashed down to 1.64.08.21
- Flashed back up to 1.65.20.29 (radio Only)
- Flashed back down to 1.64.08.21
So it appears that the security unlocking still allows you to get by whatever these radios are using to lock us to them.
Thanks

Thanks Man! I also saw on the oem thread. Which method did you use for your security unlock (Jocky or Olipro)? I used olipro method (with AT Command) to security unlock mine but i'm not dare to try yet.

I used the Jocky toys to unlock as soon as I saw the first few people who flashed accidentally to the radio from hell; I didn't want to test the wrong ROM and get stuck because the radio was left inside...
Call me paranoid... but my theory is read, search and watch...

Thanks Again! I see. As long as I know people who Security Unlock with Jocky can freely change the radio, but I'm still not sure about Olipro method. As far as I know, I haven't seen anyone report anything about Olipro sec. unlock, or I might miss it somehow.
In fact, I know that it doesn't matter which method I used to security unlock, I should be safe to change the radio. Please someone with Olipro Security Unlock confirm that it's safe to flash this radio.
Mine is still locked to 1.65.17.10 after trying to flash to the new radio.

Yes Olipro's Method works as well, but you have to make sure you use the [email protected] to security unlock it permanently.

Ok Thanks, In the boot loader, there is "Security Unlock" shows on the top of the screen. and I did use simlock=7,0 (if i remember correctly because I was almost a month)
By the way, AllTheWay, after your warranty, did you try the radio from hell yet?

Nope still to chicken.
To soon to tell on battery life and no calls to make this time of night, but I am pulling average 1058 kbit/sec on 1MB file test at DSL Reports, and holding a steady 6 satellites on GPS using Google Maps. Sitting in my home office, I'm usually lucky to pull 1 satellite...
Not sure how this compares with the other current radios, but so far so good.
Any comments about the radio please
is there a way to security unlock once u have the 1.65.17.10 radio?
i dont understand why at&t would lock a radio so u can't even update it.

Following the thread on this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387395), I don't believe anyone has found a way to security unlock it after 1.65.17.10 has been flashed, but the best minds on XDA are working on it.

I don't think at&t intentionally locked the radio, I believe the general consensus is that this was a mistake. Keep in mind that it was taken from a test rom, no a public release...
The bug which was introduced in Radio 1.65.17.10 is corrected. So you can update this radio version 1.65.20.29 also when your device is not security unlocked. I checked this by patching oemsbl such that it thinks my device is sec locked and then tried to flash radio 1.64.08.21 which worked. I tried it another time and flashed 1.27.12.11 which also worked.
For the two or three other specialists over here: the BGT @90D53C was changed to a BNE @90D538. Once again, this was a clear bug in 1.65.17.10, but hey, that's what can happen if you flash radios from a test rom.
PS: of course I do not take any liability if it doesn't work. It's always the best thing to security unlock your device first.
PPS: the status on the 1.65.17.10 problem is that I need to find a way to put the device in dload mode. Once that can be done I can unjail your phone.
PPS: i can now unbrick any "task 2a" bricks which do not have radio 1.65.17.10 installed. I'm waiting for final confirmation by GSLEON3 tho.
i use [May 10] L26 FF V4 ...
is compatible with this radio?

Rom Flashing Question

Hey Everyone-
This post has probably already been answered but i have been searching the forums (and google) and getting mixed results.
I looking to flash the ROM on my HTC Touch Pro (Fuze). However, I've read that my phone must be unlocked to flash a new radio, but not a new ROM. However I've also read that with a new ROM comes a new Radio. So which is it? Do i need to unlock my phone to flash a new ROM because if not i will have a phone w/o a Radio?
Thanks alot, these forums are awesome.
From my understanding, you only need to unlock the phone if you want to use another device's radio. For example, you have a Touch Pro, if you wanted to put a Touch HD radio on it then the phone needs to be unlocked. However, if you want to put another Touch Pro radio on your touch pro you shouldn't need to unlock the phone.
To answer your second question about Roms with or without radios.... They come both ways but I have mostly seen Roms without included radios. Just read the desired Rom info page to find out if it includes a radio or not.
Unlock (HardSPL) is always necessary. No matter if u flash a radio, a rom or a radio/rom.
The only moment when u do not need to unlock is if u flash an official update , radio or rom, that is made from ur provider for ur phone. Or if its unbranded , the update is downloaded from htc itself with ur serial number entered befor.
BTW: Unlock (HardSPL) means that the loader of ur phone accepts NOT signed Roms or radio files for flashing.
Thank you both for the quick replies. So that i have this clear-
I can download and run hardspl according to the instructions etc, etc. Then if i choose to flash a rom without a radio i can. Then (or before) I can flash a Fuze Radio to my phone all without sim unlocking my phone?
Do i have that right?
Thank a million

Not shure if I got u correct in the first post:
By unlock do u mean SIM unlock ? Means use sims from any provider.
By unlock u mean entering the pin number to use ur phone ?
By unlock u mean (what I thought first) enabling the phone to accept any kind of rom ?
Normally a new radio is not always needed, I flash most of the times leaving my radio as it is, if its good in reception and power consumption
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.

These are what I understand as the levels of Unlocking... so you're right. I was talking about a security unlock (my apologies). The carrier shouldn't have anything to do with the process. And i don't need special software to security unlock the phone right? (that's where i was getting confused)
As for that last part--
So assuming i like the reception and battery usage i get right now I can flash any ROM i want w/o worrying about losing the radio? And if i do get a ROM with a radio is the radio installed automatically or are there two steps? Thus enabling me to install the ROM without the radio that came with it?
Many Thanks

Ok, first u have to HardSPL (What does: Ur Phone accepts any radio and/or rom)
From here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150
NOTE 3: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs or radio packages. also, this has overwrite protection, if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, we will soon post a stock SPL downgrade package.

If u have a touch pro and want to use Diamond or Blackstone radios then u have to do look here, first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426609
Then:
Flash ROM -> ur radio stays the same
Flash Radio -> ur rom stays the same
Flash all in one -> Both are changing, radio and rom.
Look in the roms thread, they tell u if it comes with or without radio. I think most of the times without. The original Raphael rom from HTC is WITH radio btw
Thank you very, very, very much!!!
Im gonna give this a try now.
Once again, many thanks.
