[Q] Headset with music control

Hi, I just bought this great phone, and now want to buy headphones with remote control for music and microphone to answer calls ... Juts like the ones the come included with the phone, but with much better sound. Can you recommend some?
Any headphones with remote control, such as the iPhone, would work in the Desire HD with full funcionality? Thank you very much everybody.

Had a look for some but didn't find. So I'm thinking about making my own by cutting the stock headphone just above the control/mic unit and then attaching to a decent pair of headphones to it. Should be pretty simple I think.

iPhone headsets may work with limited functionality. The Klipsch s4i mic and answer button works but music controls do not.

Instead of attaching headphones attach a 3.5mm jack.

I personally use the 'jabra bt3030'. Search it on google. The sound quality is awesome and it also is usefull for awnsering calls (great microphone! people don't hear I'm in my car, and my car makes some sound!), but the primary use is for listening to music. I currently have poweramp on my phone and it works with the headset buttons.
The best thing for me is that you can put the phone in your pocket, bag, or leave it on the table and walk away without fear cables getting stuck, or having to stop the music.
What it isn't good for, is navigation. The headset goes in standby when there isn't any sound played. This saves energy but there is a small lag between the headset going on and playing sound. This doesn't happen when listening music or awnsering calls, it stays on. But for navigation, often two words fall away. The battery life is awesome. I sometimes question myself if this thing has a corereactor inside producing it's own energy.
Only negative point is the price. It's more expensive then none bluetooth headsets. But the durability is high and makes up for the price.

I think the Jabra seems the best choice, especially since you can attach your own headphones... The only downside I find is that you must have the bluetooth on all the time, and if the Desire HD battery may suffer because of it. And we all know battery is not one of the strong points in this phone...
Any wired alternative?

Currently I have the Dr. Dre beat Tour mobile headphones. The button works with droidshuffle app. But if the action is more than a single tap of the button, it goes into phone mode. Hoping for someone to fix that. For now I can only use the button as a next track button, but the sound quality is great so i deal with it.

Bluetooth headsets are compatible with almost all phones.
I'd recommend a bluetooth headset but with some tweaks the HTC DHD headset is also great.
You could cut out the earpieces and attach some new ones.

Well looks like cutting and attaching a 3.5mm jack isn't as easy as I thought it would be, I have the sound working but not the controls - I haven't touched anything on that side so I've got no idea why!

Here's the back:
On the second pic, the connection on the top is my new wiring.
For anyone else thinking of having a go, apart from the controls not working, you show be aware that the wires are coated in an enamel which makes the connections a little trickier plus the board is held in with some tough insulating glue which will have to be removed before you can take it out (this might be visible on one side of the first pic - yellowish colour).
Looks like I'll have to keep looking for un-ear headphones with music control and Mic unless anyone has any tips.

Tried to give it a go myself a while ago. I ended up tearing up the wires on the board. The weld spots loosens easily then everything goes to shät.
I like akg headphones. Good quality sound at a reasonable price. At their site they have a model with a remote and mic on it (wired). It only says compatible with iphone.
Does anyone know if they work on other phones, like htc?

Tried the default iPhone headset and it worked fine. So any other hs that's iPhone compatible should work as well.

This is what I did..too bad I didn't have a camera lying around to take a pics when i opened up this.But this way you wont ruin your board soldering. Oh and remember to use a 15W-25W (I use an ANTEX C15) or you'll end up burning the speaker coils and the film.

hi kamranh3 what is the model of your bt headset? there should be a pairing button somewhere.(read the manual if you're not sure) usually you gotta press it for 2-5 secs to put it on pairing mode.then tap scan for devices on your DHD and it should see your headset..well probably

Anyone who knows if one could disable the auto detection for the headset?
I managed to damage my headset hack and when I plug in a pair of headphones it recognizes it as a headset and starts skipping tracks.

I haven't found at the moment a heaset fitting for the DHD which has all this features, so I will solder my own headset, since I modifed my HTC RC C160 to have after the mic and control piece a standard 3,5mm female jack to plug each headset. but this solution locks not perfect, there are than to much cables and I can't adjust the volume.
So I will make a second headset: (the parts should arrive in the next days)
a further HTC RC C160 + Sennheiser CX280 (with integrated small Volume controller. all from Amazon.de for less the 40€
I will again open the mic piece of the c160 and solder the cutted wire from the cx280 (after the volume controller) and have so a (for me) perfect DHD headset. let's see if that work
Anyway, if somebody has a better out of the box solution for a in-ear headset with volume and musicplayer control for the DHD please feel free to share!

[Review] Headphones-SOL Republic Tracks HD

As an addition to my review for the SOL Republic AMPS HD that I recently had the honor of receiving and testing out at a cheap price, I was able to grab the over-the-head/over-the-ear cans, SOL Republic Tracks HD.
If you read my AMPS HD review, I couldn't rave enough about them, and these are no different.
These cans are awesome...to sum it up. I wore it around the office and did some scanning and pretty much everyone in the office commented on how nice they looked from "normal" headphones you see out today. Yes the Klipsche's and the Sennheiser's still have their following, and I have yet to try them. I am no way knocking those brands, I am just reviewing on things I have.
First off, the price. They retail for $130USD. But you can possibly get a deal on ebay. But be warned, if you buy off ebay, the warranty will not be honored by SOL Republic, unless they recognize the seller as an authorized one. The price is totally worth it, even though I didn't pay that amount . But if I had the choice, this would be the one to buy. If you have a Best Buy close to you, they have Sol Republics there, and also they do sell them at the local Apple stores as well.
Next the look....
I'll post pics at the end of the review, but upon opening the Tracks HD, they have a good weight to them, not heavy at all. The head band is the flex kind and is said to be virtually unbreakable. The "sound engines" as they call it, the weight reminds me of POGS lol....memories.....ok back to the sound engines, the ear pads are really comfy soft and the neat thing is that these bad boys actually come apart from the head band. So does the cord as well. Being everything can be a 'component', this means one can mix and match headbands and different colored wires, and etc.... But I'll stick with my white ones. It matches the back of my white phone . The cord has the three button function, mainly for iPhones, but only the center button works. Paired these cans up with the Jays Headset app found free on the market and now I can control the volume and tracks as well. I don't need those extra buttons lol...The mic works with our phones as well in taking calls. I can easily say these are the best sounding headsets one can have to be used with a phone.
Finally the sound...
Once broken in (about 1-2 hours), these guys are bad-a$$! I mean it's definitely up to the end user to like or dislike these, but the clarity is so nice, and the bass is there and not overpowering, but are on the bass heavy side if that makes sense. I have listened to Rhianna, Bad vs Evil, Lasers, Jessie J, and a few Paul Mc Cartney tracks. They all sound great but I have to say these cans are geared for more of the club/dance/hip hop genre. Don't get me wrong, you will NOT be dissapointed if you listen to various ranges of music, it's my preference. I have my V-Moda Crossfades and they have been my favorite for years. They have a bit less bass but are clear as heck. So I would peg these Tracks HD in league with the Crossfades in clarity and look. But as for a carrying case, V-Moda has it in the bag...speaking of bag, that's what these Tracks HD come in. Because the tracks do not fold the bag is quite big compared to the Crossfade's exoskeleton case. I just wish they could maybe incorporate the headband as a handle of some sort to become part of the case. I mean this headband is durable!
Are there any bad things to say??
Yes there are . Even though these are my favorites thus far, edging out my Crossfades by a hair, there are a few things I wish were a bit better. For one, the carrying case. Not too impressed. Second, the support for other phones other than Apple. C'mon, Sol Republic..ever hear of Android?? And finally the cord. It seems a bit short and I know for a fact that if you use this for like DJ'ing, this cord is not going to cut it. What would I change? I would say the carrying case would be the primary thing I would alter. And then maybe the length of the cord. And with that bring in some sort of clip to secure it. Oh and the cord would have to be tangle free! This cord is pretty good but the short cord does away with any real good tangles.

What is that
SBH20 is stereo Bluetooth headset that has one particularity: NFC compatibility. You can use it for listening music or making calls either.
Where can i purchase it?
Straight Sony Mobile official website or many different suppliers like Amazon (which i highly recommend with good price though)
Unboxing
Package is minimalist.
Out of box, you got a tiny micro-usb charger, around 10 cm, along with USB power adapter of 850 mAh (EP800), headphones also shorter than Z's original ones, and its 3 different earbuds cover made in silicone, typical user guide and warranty.
Design
Sony provides really good job in term of design, same for that SBH20, minimalist, simple square in several colors (black, white, orange, pink, green...).
Its incredibly tiny and light.
measurements:
Size: 33.3 x 33.3 x 12.3 mm
Weight: 12.3 grams
look it deeply, it has matte plastic texture which seems to be the right choice, glossy tends to be easily scratched.
Main buttons as play, next and previous are engraved and indeed very hard too see.
You got also power button with LED indicator, volume buttons and 3.5 mm audio jack port.
Connection
You can appair with your phone through NFC.
How is it work?
Put it just above Xperia logo from the back of phone and it will appaired.
Dont forget to enable NFC.
However, NFC or not, the launch bothers me because of slowsness (way slower than my Sony headset that is also NFC and BT wireless)
Range of surprising good, you can still listening musics up to 15 m or even more until at the sounds starts suffering
Once, i went down the building stairs while listening music, 2 floors lower, the sounds started suffering and i eventually realized i forgot my phone in my apartment
You can also automatize it through Smart Connect in order to make events
e.g When enabling SBH20, it will automatically launch Walkman and playing music
When disabling SBH20, it will automatically disable Bluetooth, stopping music...
I highly recommend to use it.
Since 4.3 update, i have some connection issue, ''Throw'' was launched every time when i connect it
Since 4.3 update, i noticed some dysfunction with BT devices independently of NFC.
Sound quality
For music, sound quality is surprisingly respectable. At least for a smartphone, it will never approach a sound quality from great audio headset such as Fidelio L1, M1.
Wireless always lowers audio quality, however Sony has great idea to give you a bunch of good earphones (original's one and SBH20's one)
It makes sound less poor than expected.
Dont expect too much, its just average and well enough for such nomad use.
When it comes about calls, its another story.
When i am making calls through it, noise cancellation is terrible: you cant hear properly but the worse thing is interlocutor often barely hear you when you are talking
i believe its depends where you are
outside, on the jungle of street, drop it.
Battery
Sony proudly announced 6 hours of battery life.
I use it daily and quite disagree.
My average battery life up to 4 hours, 5 hours at the maximum
Yes battery life is crap, it could be better.
PROS
- It has cute design
- Tiny (you can put it away in your pocket)
- Earphones (way better than any crap from other smartphones)
- Useful for Z (if you are too lazy for opening jack's trap every time)
CONS
- Average battery life
- Average sound quality overall
Final thoughts
Buy it if you dont bother about the audio quality, otherwise get headset such as Fidelio L1, not same price though. You can find SBH20 for less than 25 euros on Amazon (within the Apple's earphone price range)
Battery might be just for a day of use or a long travel.

Definitely flat but its depends of what wired headset you ve compared to.
Mine is also come from Sony and both makes sound flat
Wired headset always loses bass unless you are willing to put money on quality stuffs
e.g Parrot Zik is good enough (for general public i would mean) for a wired headset but really sucks if you compare to others none wireless audio headsets on the market such as Fidelio M1
The good thing is earbud cover earphones that make sounds more powerful with more bass

i am using them for about 5 month. Like them a lot. I think that was my best buy ) Battery life of phone from usual wired headphones and sbh-20 nearly same.

I'm using those since December and i can say they are very good. just today i did listen to music for about 4h.

I am too using this since 4-5 months. The sound is not great to write about, it just does it's job. If you are a music lover, then definitely a no-no. You can get about 1.5 hrs of (music playback + calls) with standby of about 4-5 hrs before the battery dies. I wish Sony had given a better battery life of atleast 8-10 hours and a better earphones with a good bass along with this device.

SBH52 lasts longer wthin 8-10 hours but you are going to lose its lovely miniaturization although its still quite small
best advice i would give for people who have heavy daily use or keep listening while travelling, plug your Z earphones into SBH20, its way longer, when battery life drained out, use earphone instead

yes its bluetooth device, it should run on most of devices including iPhone
NFC would be only optional if you have NFC
i suggest you to pick SBH50 if you want better battery life otherwise SBH20 sounds good

How about volume levels? Is it loud enough? I have an xperia zr with not enough volume levels so i want to buy this.

I've had this headset for about 4 months and coupled with @proj.SoNICo audio mod and with the gauzes taken out of the headphones and the little plastic gromit inside,the sound is superb!! On My XZ Rooted UB and running eXistenZ V6 Black Edition!! And @halfbloodmutant..The volume is Awesome!!

Have my (black) SBH20 for three days, it is really quite good, especially for that price.
There is one thing I haven't figured out yet - does the LED color change depending on the charging process? I think, that when it is lower on the battery, it seems to be kinda yellowish and later gets full green, but it may be just me watching it too much

i think yes,the colour of the led changes as you said with the charging process,same thing with my headset when the battery is low,yellow at first and then changes to green when fully charged!!

Just a little question, i guess you've used the Sony-Headset MH-EX300AP, how does it compare Sound and Mic-wise?
Also how long do the batteries last?
This little bugger, seems to be just made for an Motorbike-Intercom System
Its seems to be pretty small so that it could theoretically even fit inside a helmet somewhere where you can reach it in the front, and due to the 3,5mm Jacket you could pair it with those :

Look, guys, I have ALWAYS come from a background of using EXTENDED batteries for my phones. Damn, the size! My choice was between this Moto Pure and the LG G4 and its removable battery. I opted for this Moto. I love it, but the battery life is ho-humm for me. I've been up since 8 am and it's now 5pm. I have 41 percent battery life left. I have used it a bit, 2h 4mins SOT and I keep it at full brightness, but using adaptive brightness.
I think for most this is fine. With the quick charger it comes with and my various others I recently bought, I'll be fine. It's those times when my family goes to the mtns and such that I wish I had an extended battery, but I'll be happy enough with this.
I will say that the wood back is slick/slippery and what's even more slippery is the metal sides. I am afraid of dropping this thing. But I figured as much when I placed my order and I knew I'd be buying a case for it. So why go with wood only to place it in a cover? Resell down the line. So long as I choose a case that doesn't do more damage to the finish than good. Another thing about the wood is that I have greasy hands/skin/hair and the wood shows this badly. Regardless....
I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!!

One further worry I have is with my sweaty palms (sounds dirty, I know). I'm afraid this will damage the wood in quick fashion if I don't get a case on it. But perhaps this isn't much of a problem as I've never had a wood back in any previous phones. I just know what water does to wood/laminate/etc. Again, I'll be putting a case around this puppy so no worries. Love the phone thus far. It's sexy and sophisticated for sure.

One last gripe for now is that because I have larger hands, I'd love the Moto dimple to be placed toward the top of the phone more by about 3/4" - 1". I don't use it at all in the location it's in, which was never a selling point for me anyway.

Hey, with the E18, does your screen stay on once you've got the DAC on?
I've got a 2014 X and the E18 keeps my screen on until I manually turn it off.

Yes, that's a USB On the Go (Or maybe not USB OTG being that its micro usb to micro?) connection from the Moto Pure to my Fiio E18 Kunlun. The Fiio does not keep the Moto from going into sleep, sleeps just fine. I use Poweramp as a player and I have not done any A/B comparisons with the Moto and my old Note 2. In theory the dac in the Fiio should handle the audio processing so it should sound no different, but perhaps there is something I am not aware of. Point is, things sound great and all is well.

I hate that you have to factory reset your watch to pair with a new device. Or even if you factory reset your phone you'll have to factory reset your watch. Major pain to have to set everything up and go through all the tutorials again. Love the photos though. I got the walnut back with the dark grey accents and it's so purty.

Yeah, I'm using the factory supplied bumper for now as I wait to see what cases there are to offer. Now that I have the phone in hand, I really, really don't want to cover up the wood back. It's gorgeous, but I really need convenience as well and the ability to plop the phone down on a hard surface. Maybe we'll find it's easy to replace the backs. I've taken apart many a phone for various reasons so it shouldn't be too bad. So long as replacement rears don't cost too much. If such was the case, perhaps I would feel more compelled to go naked. Then again, I always look for more protection for the camera lens on my phones...

Very good to know, looks like it is time for me to start looking into portable DACs, just need to find something that has at least a Wolfson WM8975 or better.
What do you use as your media player?

I just use Poweramp. I guess on some phones back in the day and perhaps still that have USB OTG had issues working with standard players so many used USB Audio Recorder Pro, but my Note 2 never had issues so I used Poweramp and do with my Moto as well. No issues.

Again, it sounds pretty good to me, but I haven't done any critical listening since I've had the phone. No A/B comparisons nor any listening sessions past 5 minutes in a not so quiet room with open back headphones.
Straight out of the headphone jack was not bad in the quick listening, but compared to my fiio e18, it's a bit lacking as you would expect. Your amp will help, but I'd venture to guess you'd want to use your audio program's equalizer. YMMV. You may find it perfectly acceptable. Sorry I couldn't help more. I haven't made time to listen to my headphones much.

Drat, that's probably why.
Just had the chance to connect my rev A. E18 to my new X and it acts funny. Sound through the same connections has a very low gain. And once I unplug the E18 my X's power button stops working, haha.

KZ ZS10 4+1 hybrid it's a little tricky to drive on my S7, Volume is not quite high even when maxxed out, on V30 it's much better fuller bass and 60% volume is already loud.
KZ had overpowered treble sibilance since the zs5 series which can get tiring if I pair it with V30, but they fixed it in this edition. Bought mine from AliExpress but i guess you can buy it on amazon.

Pioneer SE-CH9T, bought in a local music store. I bought it to replace a pair of Shure SE215s that just developed a broken cable for the second time (the original Shure replacement cable that I bought lasted about 2 years, while the cable that originally came with the headphones lasted for more than 4). They are about the same price as the SE215s (slightly less than 100€), but they sound so much better! They're louder, clearer and have more bass. I'm really loving them.

I bought them for their modibility. I was torn, I didn't want to buy a pair of "expensive" iems only to not like them. I figured I might be able to tune them to what I think at least sounds acceptable for the amount of money I paid. They do actually sound great. I haven't had buyers remorse at all. Plus, my nerdiness allows me to tinker with them, which I like.

These headphones activate the quad dac and the phone easily drives them past what I can listen to.
I don't know exactly what happens with higher Ohm headphones, I think there is an improvement in bass. I won't get them soon, I have 2 sets of earbuds and a pair of Fidelio X2. I'm good for awhile.
