Thanks for posting the link here. You just beat me to it
I was soo gonna buy the Touch Pro...but now I might have different plans..
This is just a desperate measure to be like the X1. From the pictures it looks a lot bigger than Diamond, which it might replace. I don't think it will have a keyboard either.
So it's got the same internals (except slight less internal storage according to the screenie), just a bigger screen (with bigger res) and no keyboard? I'll stick with my pocket friendly touch pro thanks, unless the dpi has been bumped up considerably and the screen is glass, I got a feeling that thing will look terrible to look at
Xmas present ?
Hmmm, looks like I might be using the Touch Pro for only a few months !
Sounds like an excellent device.
Somehow I doubt this will be in my Christmas stocking - probably more like inside an Easter egg.
...
WHAT??? no fair...
i would prefer that if it had a keyboard...
The only letdown for me is the small screen on the TP
It is the size of an iphone, in case anyone was wondering.
Impressive screen though, does blow away the iphone screen.

if it had a keyboard it would be awesome
but now im worried a new touch pro will be out in a few months already. jeez damn technology
Yeah, I must admit I am feeling a bit cheated. But this is a fairly large device.
I like my Touch Pro a lot, but the screen on this would be ace, its twice the resolution of an iPhone.
Not sure what I will do, my missus did have her eye on my Touch Pro, maybe I can palm it off on her, get her a Compact or Vario IV on upgrade, flog that and get myself one of these?!
Decisions, decisions.
If this thing is available any time soon, I may hold off on the TP.. The Screen is incredible! 400x800?! Estimates put it at no less than 3.5" possibly 3.8"

This link suggests 4" http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1469. But no keyboard for me is a loser (just moved from the Diamond for that reason!) But then again - that screen......... Just like having an athena again, but which fits in the pocket!!!!
Holy Smokes! This HD has very impressive spec's! I don't use my keyboard now and I use the internet a lot. So this would be perfect for me if I can wait till December I'm now not going to pursue the Pro...
I'm very tempted to continue to wait for the HD.. but by then, knowing HTC, they'll have photos of the Touch 3 HD Mk II w/Coffee machine and A big block Chevy V8.

Well, I've had the Touch pro for a while now and I love it to death... But a phone that seems equally appealing is the SE Xperia X1. First of all, would anyone be interested in buying my Fuze... And second, what's everyone's thought on the Xperia? I know for me it seems to be a touch pro with a curved keyboard, but more importantly, something to keep me entertained because it's new. I've loved sony ericsson phones in the past, so a blend of them and HTC seems to be bliss.
Back to the Fuze for a moment, includes 6 screen protectors (bought as a pack from expansys), tv-out, fm radio and headphones, as well as a ton more software to extend its capabilities beyond AT&T's intentions. Also includes HTC leather case, USB cable, home and car chargers. PM offers (if there are any). Thanks.
Forgot, it also comes with an 8 gig microsd card and tons of software (gps, etc) with backups for EVERYTHING.
I think TouchFlo is more functional than the X1's "panels" display, even if it's a bit of a mem hog. But I think a combination of the two would be killer, using the X1 panels as a pseudo Alt+Tab.
For me the major difference would be the Touch Pro's better keyboard or the X1's larger display, and I would personally go with the better keyboard.

Interesting... Well, after using this for 2 weeks I have no qualms with screen size, but I do love the keyboard... Maybe I'll see if I can get one from a store that'd possibly allow a return within a few days and see if the keyboard is to my liking. Thanks for the input.
Black I Know What You Are Thinking!
The SlingBox/SlingPlayer mobile on my mini jimbotron X1 super TV screen, me and my Mets, Black I've been thinking the same thing too.......!(lol)
The Xperia is allready delayed for a couple of months (Dec - Jan) and there are rumors about SonyEricsson breacking. http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7601.html And given the recent economic results might just be true.
But... I used to have P900 and it was the best phone ever!
In all the X1 is a good phone, touch panel is not fully developed as of yet, and video playback is absolutely a negative, fps is very poor, guess these and all other negatives if taken care of xperia is going to be a good phone.
Another negative is the earpiece sound quality.. manageable at half volume..but anything more than half is bad, (this is relative anyway) and overall system sound is low, but it feels very sturdy, and sleek, all aluminium casing except the camera area thats is plastic, keypad is not too bad for small fingered people but a little tiny for big thumbers!
Battery life is pretty good and battery is same as the Sonyericsson P1i.
I have used 3 of this phone , still have the 3rd one now, 2 has been given out (dont ask me how )
there is room for improvement on what obtains of this phone as at now..

Well, availability may not be an issue... I might be able to cop one now. The only thing I don't like is the look of the buttons on the front, I think the Touch Pro is much more attractive aesthetically.
2 thing x1 got on raphael is
1 microSD access without having to open it as it would result in microSDIO cards with ext connectors would only when when raphael is open
2 3.5mm minijack

Woah it has a 3.5mm headphone jack? That's HUGE to me.
Some reviews I've read say the X1 keyboard feels cheap and cheesy like it's fixing to break, vs the TP's keyboard being very good. My thoughts are there are fewer keys on the X1's keyboard, so I think it'd be easier to type on if they get the hardware fixed.
Another thing to remember is the X1 uses WVGA, which is a non-standard 480x800 screen res, whereas the TP uses standard VGA of 480x640. Some people think the non-standard screen res will cause some app's to not work properly, but I'm not so sure of that. I believe someone could write a 'virtual screen' driver to create a VGA screen inside the WXGA screen area. Any video playback software shouldn't matter...

not sure if you saw my post in the other forum but I have a good friend that works for Qualcomm and he is a cab tester and a proc tester for new upcoiming devices. He got the xperia some time ago and has basically had to get 3 of them. The first the keyboard fell off lol. The second the screen blew out lol. And so far he says the 3rd has so many problems with the hardware drivers and WM that it wont stay stable for very long. Basically his advice was to steer clear for a ling time until a lot changes.
If you like i can relay some questions to him for you if your need to know something specific that he may know.
As a side note, he also had the TP for a long time and said there is absolutely no comparison and the TP wins hands down in all areas. BUT (hehe you knew there was a but), he is an IPhone user DOH!!! So take all that for what it is worth bro.

I was told that the SE was delayed as a result of a lot of complaints from those who are testing it. My AT&T rep got to test one shortly and he also said it was buggy and hard to use without the desire to bash it against a wall from time to time.
I'd wait this one out. But I agree that selling your TP now is the right move. You should be able to make money on it since nobody else has one.

Haha, pending sale for $1,000. It's hilarious, I've also had offers of $350 and $400 from some clowns on here... When it comes out for AT&T, the retail price (no contract) will be like 599-699... Why the hell would I sell it months before release for $350? Seriously guys? I'm not desperate.
That being said, if the sale falls through for a grand I'll let everyone know. I also have offers in the 850-1000 range so don't even consider 500 next time. ;-)

Yeah, after seeing quite a few reviews of the Xperia I realized how lucky I got with the Fuze. The SE is buggy as all hell because it's a pre-release, and it just made me more thankful that this thing has no problems at all. Also keep in mind though, the Xperia isn't slotted till Q1 2009 for release... Hopefully they have more time to work it out.
That being said, I think the keyboard will be a gigantic disappointment compared to the touch pro... Typing and having all of the punctuation available without a function key was the nicest part of the 5 row... Will the bigger screen and less memory-hungry interface (hopefully) make up for it? Well, I hope so... Maybe I'll wait for the AT&T release in Q1 so I can return it within 30 days and get another Fuze.

But I'd love to keep the flexibility I get from WM, and have finally made my Trinity rock solid (it hasn't crashed in weeks
The big thing for me is the screen, I like 3.5 and I like the resolution - the Omnia just doesn't look as good to me, plus its screen is smaller.
Is HTC, or someone else, coming out with something new, soon, which will have the screen, the memory (16gb is good) and is also a decent looking phone?
Anyone know?

Uh wtf?
Anyways. Back on topic. WAIT FOR THE AT&T TOUCH PRO. Nuff said.
Silly wabbit! iPhones are for kids.... Any anyone else without enough brain matter to operate a WM device.
If there is too much time on your contract to bail, I'd say wait for the Touch!
Unfortunately, the Touch Pro only has a 2.8" screen, which is a big disadvantage, compared to the 3.5" screen on the iPhone.
I am looking for at least 3.5".
(and since I had my Wizard, I've decided that slider keyboards are useless to me.)
For a screen that size you will need something like a Sedna.
I personally just got the I900. I had an IPhone for a month and I definitely prefer the Omnia I900. However it only has a 3.2" screen and you want 3.5".
I would have gotten a Sedna as I wanted a bigger screen, but at the last minute I got an Omnia and I am really happy with it.
The Touch Pro looks nice, that would probably be my second choice. The omnia has the best on screen keyboard I have seen so far. It not particularly special in any way other than the fact that it works well in Portrait and in landscape with the autmatic rotate function I can rapidly get precise, fast two thumb typing going by just rotating the phone (assuming I have two hands free.)
I have iTouch and have to say that I love it`s touch-screen accuracy, much better than in wm-phones with 2.8" screen, it is just so tiny compared to 3.5" screen.. I usualy do wlan with wmwifirouter and browse net using iTouch since it has bigger resolution and 3.5" screen which doesn`t need stylus + Safari is fast !
One thing what I don`t understand is this 2.8" Wmphonemania, why are they not making 3.5" screens on them ? And 3.2mp cameras are oldish, I love N95 5mp camera, it just takes so good shots, I am jealous :>
But either Symbian or iPhone`s OS, cannot beat WinMo as an operating system :X

I am amazed that noone mentioned the HTC Dream. The first Android phone to hit the market will be released on October 13th. Check it out.
Anything Comparable to the iPhone Coming Out On the WM Side? (Quote)
Just surf this forum and you will find a lot of nice options:
HTC G1
HTC HD
etc...
This was exactly the question I was working on for a number of months. Although I also added in, "And won't cost me an arm and a leg".
It finally came down to the Daxian T32/x999+ (Chinese iPhone-ish clone) and the HTC Blue Angel. If the T32 had some buttons that could be used in gaming like the HTC I would've gone with that I think, but I got the HTC Blue Angel instead and it's great.
Of course this is my first PDA, so maybe I'm easily impressed.
Anything else out there either costs WAY too much or has a much smaller screen, or even both. It's too bad nobody is taking the Blue Angel and reworking it with today's technology to make it sleeker and better. Great little machine so far!
http://gizmodo.com/5047830/htc-touch-hd-looks-big-and-beautiful
How about this?
I think it's called HTC Touch HD. Don't know if HD stands for High Definition.
Anyway, this phone for sure has your requirement of 3.5 screen.
Is this true? It makes no sense to me. How could this be possible? Isn't the Touch Pro just a more powerful Diamond with a keyboard slapped on the bottom?
The Diamond and the Pro have the same resolution. The HD is the one with WVGA.
So, people are trying to put the Diamond HD TouchFlo onto the Touch Pro... but are having trouble because it's a different resolution.
Am I correct?
The device is called "Touch HD" not Diamond HD but except that you're correct!
I try to know as little as possible about the Touch HD, because
1. I am days away from getting the Touch Pro
2. The Touch HD kicks the Touch Pro's ass in every possible way and then some. It also kicks my own ass.
3. The Touch HD will never be mine.
4. I have a 2 year commitment to my Touch Pro coming up, unless you guys know of any way out of an AT&T plan early without paying.
Really have you seen that phone? It's AMAZING. I contemplated spending over double to get it... many times. So please, let me be happy with my victory over getting the Weather and Stock screens on my Touch HD... and don't tease me with the amazing sexyness that is the Touch HD.
And let's pray that in two years the Touch HD design is the norm in America.

Oh let's see... I live in the US, and it will cost 800 dollars at LEAST to import it, and even then I have no guarentee I'll get it in good condition, be able to return it, etc. It'll probably be upwards of 1,000.
Or, I can go out on Tuesday to my local AT&T store and grab the Raph for 350 + 50 rebate.

i just have one thing about this better res screen. I have a TP and it still cant play my xvid files smoothly. dont see how it will do that at even higher res ;(. touch hd uses same cpu....
There's some videos online. It's got impressive video playback and sound.

To me its no contest, the Pro is a no brainer because of the keyboard... Specially the Pro's keyboard with all the extra buttons compared to the other models...

I had an Athena, and eventually realized the keybaord was only good for protecting the screen. With a 5" screen and Teksoft FingerTouch soft keyboard, text entry was a breeze in portrait and landscape. Never had the pleasure of using the Universal, but i've heard it had a very nice keyboard.

Good move. I've been a huge fan of HTC for years but their latest devices are just not good multi-media devices at all.
Both the Diamond and Touch pro video playback suck with every piece of software I've tried.
The Omnia on the other hand...WOW !
Awesome video playback, screen size is perfect, cool touch/mouse pad above all else...TV-out.
Can't believe I wasted so much money on a Touch Pro (damn thing can't even play a low bit rate 640x480 mp4 smoothly).
blah!
looks like its going to be over the weekend..worked another late night tonight
either way thats what i was thinking force..the video driver for the price i paid for my FUZE, should have been on point..BUT still im getting some increment lag..and that is no bueno!
so needless to say..i shall be on the hunt over the next few days for a new ROM, if any some themes..and some other goodies for the Omnia.

Have a read up over at the omnia modaco forums and also samsung-omnia.org
Lots of usefull info there plus tips and tweaks.
I gave my tpro to my daughter at UNC-CH, (and the guys all go crazy over it). I'm using an omnia on ATT, even though it's only on edge, no problem so far. I really like the extra stretch of the screen, even tho it's wqvga (my eyes don't see that big of a difference). The tv-out is a biggie for me. I use it a lot now for presentations. I could be wrong, but it seems the new stuff coming out don't have tv-out??
I can't see what the big deal is about VGA because the screens on both the Diamond and Touch pro are too small to see any real difference, even when compared with a QVGA device of the same size.
I done a demo (inc. high bit rate video) for a bunch of friends with the Diamond and Touch Dual (I love this qvga device) and they all loved the Dual.
As for WQVGA, the larger Omnia screen blows the latest HTC devices away and yes, the eyes don't see any less just because it's not VGA.
Playing Virtual Pool Mobile on a big screen plasma or LCD kicks ass.
Surfing the web on a big screen TV and using the Omnia as a mouse is just awesome too.
So come on HTC, sort out your video drivers and get on top of the game again.

The other thing that bugs me about my touch Pro is it's weight and depth.
It's like 2 Diamonds sandwiched together.
With todays technology, the qwerty keyboard should be a lot slimmer.
And finally, with such a fat device, why no built in memory ?
Don't tell me they didn't have space.
The Diamond had 4GB but the Touch Pro has non !!!!!
The Omnia has 8 or 16GB built in (depending on the version you buy) and a micro SD slot for expansion.
I love HTC but they are being left behind by others now.
IMHO, please hold the Sony Xperia X1 before deciding.
You'll have a very different oppinion after testing this device, it's amazing.
Not that the Omnia is a bad phone, no way, but the Xperia is far away in RAM, screen resolution, build quality etc.
Take a chance on it and hold it in your hand, turn it on and play a little with the keyboard, feel the metal chassis... you'll fall in love

Yeah... But no TV-out
Recently i've been noticing a huge fuss about the HTC Diamond 2.. I mean have you people seen the Specs? Why would anyone buy this phone over the Touch HD?
The HD features says it all!! :
- HD has a bigger screen
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- more battery life (1350mAh)
- Slimmer
- Already has Diamond 2's interface updates.
Diamond 2:
- Zooming Bar? The phone would be smaller without it, or maybe increase the screen size instead.. This bar is useless!! Maybe great for Arkanoid (The Game)? ;-)
- Battery Cover isn't shaped like a diamond anymore, and there goes the name..
- No camera flash.. AGAIN!!
- No Headphone jack
- Battery is 1100mAh
- Should've came out in December or with the HD in November.
- Not a competitor with the head to head clash of phones this year.
The first Diamond was way ahead of all devices last year, It was phone of the year 2008!!.. :'(
Let me know what you guys think..
Thats true, and the reason why Im gonna keep my Omnia. But the Firestone and Thor seem to be the only phones with real updates. Cant wait till they come out.
About the specs, what is it with HTC ? Why does the video recording suck sooo much ? Hope they give recording at 720p on the Firestone or Thor (Omnia HD anyone ?). Otherwise I might have to go Symbian and I hate Symbian.

That's allmost 30% more.. for only a little more screen and a little bigger battery (what is indeed something I dont like much, but it's allready a better battery then the Diamond)
My choice is made i go for the Diamond2

The price tag for the diamond was € 280 before it was released.. it was then sold for € 420 - 460.
Before the HD was out it was priced € 480, and now like my friend FRD666 is saying its 589..
The point is its too early to know, and based by the price tags from previous HTC releases, Diamond 2's price will be more than what it is shown around.. And until it is out, how much would the HD be then?
Well if you're in the US like me, the HD will not work on AT&T's 3G network, which can be quite an inconvenience for people like me who are ALWAYS getting email, downloading huge files, watching online videos and just surfing the net. However, unless I am mistaken, the Diamond2 will be officially released in the US, which means AT&T's 3G network would be supported, which is a good thing. Although other than that, I understand what you're getting at.

Indeed, HTC just cased the HD in a new shiny box and started selling a new phone.
I hope to get my "diamond 2" in the next day or so...
But I can only see points in this thread that...well seem to miss the point!
OK...Battery:
Sure the HD has a bigger battery capacity but then again it has a bigger screen so the extra capacity in it is probably just to handle the screen requirements!
The backlight in a large LCD like that along with the extra touch sensors, display area, etc would warrant easily for that extra bit of battery life.
You put a 1100 in a HD and it won't last long - ok.... But a 1100 in a Diamond2 is probably letting it last just as long as the HD does with a 1350 as it uses less power!
We cannot tell until someone can test the Diamond2 in the SAME way as the HD...and I mean down the firmware, apps ...heck even the same touch points!
I can probably do this for you once I get my diamond2 as I do repairs on these units and will have access to the diamond2, HD and other units.
Onto point 2...Bigger screen.
For me...I want something portable...sure the iPhone and HD screen is lovely to look at....but for ME, the novelty wore off there. I put it in my pocket and I feel I need an extra belt just to hold my trousers up. The Diamond2 should be pocketable even in a shirt pocket as was the Diamond1... I can't do that with a HD.
For me... I want a phone that still feels like a phone and the diamond1 did it for me for almost a year (I've never kept a phone that long!)
The Diamond2 should still do this for me.
3.5mm jack... I've never needed this to be honest.
I have never found the need of using my HTC devices as a music device. At work, I have a headphone port in the laptop/desktop.
In the car, I have a 16GB USB stick with music plugged into the car.
At the gym, I would never take my phone out of its case in risk of it falling/loosing it and use a Sony MP3 player.
Slimmer: Not by much (if at all!) and is easily comparable for the height which then brings me back to the bigger screen...with the diamond2, I potentially should still be able to hold it nicely and snugly in my hand - like a phone... when I hold the HD, I don't feel comfortable with it - not over a long period of time and my calls can run into the hours!
Zoom bar - don't dis it until you use it... It might be a waste of space - to be honest, I think it looks ugly but it might prove to be very useful. I liked the zoom on the Diamond1 by turning your finger on the circle but found it to be eratic when it was loading pages...maybe this is the solution - who knows.
Battery Cover: You can't live with it, you can't live without it - it seems! There were hundreds of critics complaining about the back cover on the Diamond1 on how bad it was, couldnt lay it flat, g-sensor would not be correct etc etc etc and now you're complaining ? :- )
In all fairness to HTC... the code name is Topaz, I think the media just decided to call it the Diamond2 as it is closer to the Diamond2 in size etc
My only annoyance potentially is with the iPhone which is releasing its new OS etc... could this suddenly bring the Diamond2 even on a 6.5 firmware back in the dark ages?
These are my personal opinions but I feel the arguement between the two units is not that valid and is more like comparing a Lambo with a Aston Martin DB9 rather than a Ferrari with a Lambo
All 3 are sport cars but the DB9 and Lambo are very different cars
I like the advantages the diamond 2 has for the US users, at least that's a change..
I appreciate your opinion akash_84, I'm used to small slim phones, and my last one was the first Diamond.. But now having the HD around, i realized its a new experience.. Suddenly i like using internet surfing allot, writing notes, ms Office, watching movies and playing games.. Diamond 2's screen will be very good too, and the battery capacity is for the screen functionality like you say, it makes sense to me now..
First i thought of the HD as a big phone which would bother me having it in my pocket like you say.. But i was amazed of how comfortable it is.. To me i didn't notice any difference when i check if my phone is in my pocket or not between the diamond and the HD, I remember feeling the diamond shape edges battery cover in my pocket to check if it's there..
Even though they changed the battery cover shape, it's named Topaz as some kind of diamond shaped rock, so why make it normal now?.. I liked the touch pro cover, material was great..
Can Diamond 2 compete this year like the first did last year? HTC will release much better phones later..
This year will be the only year that i buy an HTC device by the end of the year..
Good point actually... Topaz is actually another type of stone which only just struck me!
However, looking at the pictures, the flat surfaces followed by curved edges almost imitates the "diamond2"
well tomorrow is the release date for it so lets see what happens!

I hope its cheap.. It'll change allot of my doubts and other HTC users..
apparently you've got the HD, because i have the Diamond 2 and i love it!
Its much better then the HD ( wich is to big!!! ) Smartphones are supposed to be smaller.
Video recording is much better with the Diamond 2 in comparison with the Diamond
Who? I have a Diamond2 ... first one to get it on here I think...or maybe second because I missed the morning delivery
Loving the diamond apart from a badly applied screen protector so just waiting for my Brando one

i will do it tonight.. the video resolution is 640 x 480 according to HTC
If you want an example video, Pocketnow.com (my favorite WM news site with videos, news, reviews, etc.) posted this example video online.
Just download it, and if you get a security warning like I did, it's nothing. The site is extremely trustworthy, and I scanned it a bunch and it came back clean, and played fine. The full Diamond review is here, and apparently he likes is a lot.
It also seems to get better benchmarks in performance than the Touch HD. You can also check out the Pocketnow youtube channel, which now has a couple of Diamond2 videos. I'm holding out for the Pro2, but this device is really nice looking.
Dave
Finally VGA (640x480) video ! Tough other manufactures are going for D1 (720x480) and 720p (1280x720), but still nice improvment.
[q]
- HD has a bigger screen
- more battery life (1350mAh)
Diamond 2:
- Battery is 1100mAh
[/q]
The screen takes up a huge fraction of the power, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that the Diamond has better battery life even with a smaller capacity battery because it also has a smaller screen.
I'm using the Diamond 2 ROM on the touch HD, The camera too (No VGA capture though)..
Guys, I just need to know:
- How many free ram and rom are use and free in the memory on the diamond 2?
- And regarding the benchmarks, has anyone played Divx (.avi) files yet?
I use Coreplayer 1.3 and it plays Divx smoothly on the Touch HD..
- How loud is the speaker phone on real ringtones?
- Is it easy and finger-accurate when using the Full QWERTY Keyboard?
Well it turns out i was wrong and this was the first that an HTC phone came out cheaper than expected... ;-)
Please share any interesting experience you find so far with the device..
Thank you all..
Regards....
