When I connect the cable from phone to PC, my PC says that there is a duplicate name on the system.
And in My Computer, there is a Mobile Device icon regardless of the phone being connected or not.
This might happened after Windows XP SP3 installation (or after Vista SP1).
The solution is to uninstall ActiveSync 4.5 and reinstall it again.
Regards
PS: anyway last ActiveSync 4.5 will behave funny since it is not compatible with XP SP3.
I've tried reinstalling, but it didn't work.
I am using Windows XP SP3, indeed, does anyone know of a way to get around this?
Try these tips one by one to see it any solves your problem:
1. Open the connection settings in activesync and double-check that USB connection is checked.
2. On the phone try click Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USBtoPC and uncheck the checkbox "advanced network...". (or check it if it was unchecked)
3. Unplug the phone, rename c:\windows\inf\infcache.1 on you computer (not phone) to infcache1.bak or something similar.
Replug the phone. Windows will now re-detect all USB devices and reinstall the drivers. If it did not help you can always rename the file back and you have lost nothing in trying.

After Step 2, the "duplicate name on the system" error message did not appear.
However, even after step 3, the Mobile Device icon still exist and I am still not able to access the contents of my phone through my PC.
Is it because my computer's name is the same as my phone?
Perhaps Try and rename the mobile, no hurt in trying.
Thank you very much, but I finally find out the problem on my own.
All I had to do was to Enable synchronization of all PCs using the "`USB" connection when craded under the ActiveSync Connections on my phone.
Thank you for your time.
Good that you solved it in the end.

Hey all. Sorry if this is in the wrong forumsection, feel free to move it if so.
I am having problems syncronizing my TyTn II with my PC. I am using Activesync 4,5. I read somewhere that this can occur if you change the usb port from the one you were using the first time, and i think that is what i might have done.
Has anyone else had this problem? What can i do to fix it?
This (registry change) did the trick for me
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/activesync/120851-activesync-4-1-sygate-personal-firewall-pro.html
Thanks mate, that seems to be a solution to the problem. Only problem now is that as far as i know i dont have a regedit program on my phone. Which one should i use and how to i go about using it? How do i get the program onto my phone when i cant use Activesync?
Appreciate any help..
I just started a thread like this in the Hermes forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361633
here's what i got, haven't tried it yet.

Try this procedure step-by-step
1. make sure your phone is not connected to the computer in any way
a. Bluetooth off
b. WIFI off
c. USB cable not connected
2. Run spybot S&D (I always do this when the computer misbehaves - and make no mistake your computer is misbehaving)
3. Terminate all other running programs
4. Hook your phone to the usb cable and the usb cable to the computer. (don't worry if it syncs or not)
5. Open Device Manager and select Network Adapters
6. Uninstall the Windows Mobile Device
7. Disconnect the Phone
8. Open the Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall Active Sync
9. Reboot the computer
10. Connect to the internet and get a fresh copy of Activesync 4.5 and install it.
At this point if you can back up your PIM to the storage card or something it would be great because I suggest you do a hard reset of the phone. go to the settings page and select System. Tap the clear storage icon and follows the instructions to reet the phone.
11. Reset phone as above
12. When phone reboots, connect it to the computer via the usb cable.
Phone should sync from now on.
Good Luck
PS.
MrVanx is right, that could help but it will limit your phones capability. However if my method fails that may be your only option short of reflashing the phone with some other ROM.

Thanks for the tip there, sook. I just tried it and it didnt work for me.
I did all the steps except for these:
5. Open Device Manager and select Network Adapters
6. Uninstall the Windows Mobile Device
The thing is i cant find my mobile device anywhere in the device manager or in the network adapters subcategory. Any ideas?
Is there any way to edit the registry on my phone without having to download and install something? Like a built-in program or something..

Download through wlan or copy it to the memory card with pc...I used TascalSoft TRE:
http://www2r.biglobe.ne.jp/~tascal/download/pocketpc/tre_e.htm
OK, a search on this gave me everything so I have to start this thread asking for a copy of the Getting Started CD. Sorry if it's already been discussed.
I can't get my pda to sync via usb. I deselect the "Enable advanced network functionality" and it still doesn't connect. Can someone post it or does anyone know where I can download one online? I'm hoping it has the correct drivers (Vista 64).
For vista you don't need the getting started CD... only the Windows Mobile Device center installed... also after the initial connection the Windows update should download it autimatically.

That's what all the instructions seem to say. I've uninstalled the existing devices, connected, installed, disconnect, uninstalled the device, install, etc and I still cannot get my pda to connect via usb. Can't seem to figure it out.
Check if activesync (on the PDA) connection settings... It should be set to connect via USB... Also you can download the WMDC from the M$ site...

Yeap, did them both. To get USB as a cradle connection option in ActiveSync in the PDA, I have to select the "Enable advanced network functionality". However, if I do this, I cannot make a connection. I remember when I had my HTC TC, I had to deselect the "Enable advanced network functionality" in order to sync via USB. But when you do this, you don't get the option to sync via USB when cradled.
I think I'm missing the USB modem driver. I'm found the zip file but I'm still looking for installation instructions.
And I think you should reinstall your OS, because there are some serious issues on your side...

OS meaning PDA OS? I did that 3 times, twice with cooked WM6.1 and once back to WM2003. I was able to establish connection with my factory WM2003.
nah... I ment the Vista (did I mention a hard reset anywhere?)... in my school, we have several verisons (ultimate, business,...), i386, x64 alike and we didn't have any problems like the one you described...
Worth a try...
Try download and manually (instead of through Windows Update) the Windows Mobile Device Center v6.1 update for x64 versions of Vista.

Yeap, did that too. Thanks though, it's appreciated.
I wonder if it's my firewall settings. Time to explore that option. I remember the old ActiveSync sometimes required manual fixes to the firewall.
Guys - I'm going to end this thread because I guess the thread title doesn't accurately identifies my issue and I don't want to double post elsewhere.

what os?
try a new cable, or try plugging the cable into a different usb port.
i got the same problem. my pc:
Windows 7 with windows device center.
can not recognise my device.
i plug in the touch pro. i get the message to choos active sync diskdrive or share my internet.
i choose active sync.
then nothing happens in device center.
tried uninstalling rndis. after restart it installes the phone again and then it works for 1 time only. after that its the same.
i have searched forums saying that uninstalling device center does not solve the problem. also they say downloading the version on the MC site is another version that Windows 7 is shipped with.
Need help, wanna install another rom. i do have another pc, but i wished it would work on this pc.
any help would be very appreciated.
EDIT 24-10-2009
Also got this message at the properties of Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
Hope that this could help me in some way

You could just update to the latest HTC ROM from the official website if your phone is still under warranty, btw thats what i did but it didn't help. Note, that i'm running Windows 7 as my OS if anyone want to know this information to help solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem.
in my situation i tried to recover usb-flash and flash a nokia phone. For both things programs installed their own drivers. Even after I deinstalled the software I probably still have their drivers on my pc. That's why I can't sync my phone...
is there a tool to manage installed drivers?
or the other way out is to reinstall windows 7
anyone willing to help?
This solution worked for me:
Thanks to Scubamike
copy and paste from
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...c/thread/7a6516e2-9a46-4e1f-b689-1aa7dc2bda64
I found a different solution that worked for me: On my phone I clicked start/programs/active sync/options and deleted all the old PC connections that were displayed. In fact, you could probably just delete ALL the PC connections displayed and start from scratch. You'll just have set up another sync partnership in WMDC when you plug it in. Let me know if this helps.
it is to easy! should work ALWAYS:
Make sure "Advanced network functionality" is switched off in the USB to PC settings then:
go to activesync, menu, connections, disable "connect via USB" off, press "ok" go back to connections, enable "connect via usb" press "ok" unplug and replug your cable. and all works.
greetings
i had trouble with a 6.5.3 rom i just cooked. had to uninstall, reboot, reinstall wmdc, then i synced okay.
I have the last original rom and win 7 and with removing all remembered connections on the pda, it connected immidiatly. Thank you for the help
i have been all over the microsoft forums to no avail. i recently updated my laptop to win7, and have a fuze running 6.1 mobile. when i connect my fuze to the laptop the laptop recognizes it as it begins to charge, but then nothing. i try to open win mobile device center and this is the error message i get C:\windows\system32\rapistub.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains errors. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and also tried different usb ports on my laptop. If anyone can help that would be awesome
Hi All!
I've just changed from Window XP to Window 7
Unfotunately...
activesync is not working on Window 7 anymore...
I've install WMDC for Window 7 ,64 bit
but after the installation, and i plug in my phone,
a process for searching the driver loads for a while
and said: driver not found
The WMDC has no response when i plug my phone in.
I have tried different methods that i can search on the web:
1) remove device+uninstall WMDC + reboot + plugin and install WMDC again
2) disable the advance network function
but no luck...
I can connect my phone as a "USB drive", but what i want to do is to let my phone surf the internet through the PC... so I need something like active sync... can anyone suggest other alternatives which can fulfil my needs...or can anyone give me some tips on how to connect my phone to WMDC>.<
Really need help...SOS...
I encountered the same problem going from XP to 64bit Win7. I manage to solve the problem.
1. WMDC is not installed as a default during Win7 install. It is installed via Windows Update.
2. After this, WMDC will come on if u plug in the PDA but gives u an Error after trying to connect to the PDA for a while
3. Here's the solution. Go to COntrol Panel/Device Manager. Open up the list of devices installed. Plug in your pda and notice a new device is listed as "Unknown device" appears under the Device manager tree.
4. Click properties of this unknown device and choose to upgrade the driver. You will need internet connection for Windows Update to download the device driver. This driver is about 11.9MB file size.
5. After download, re-connect the PDA and it should recognize the PDA immediately.
I also noticed that if I plug in another PDA model, it will also connect and work.
Hope this helps.
I have do the same many times ...but still no luck...
what is your phone model?
I have sent an mail to Asus, ans it said there are no driver for window 7 64 bits for my phone model..... only have 32 bits...
hi, im a new user and i have a problem connecting my spv c600 to my pc(windows xp)via usb. every time i try to connect my device the pc detects at first but then says"a problem occurred during installation your new hardware might not work properly" i have activesync 4.5 installed but it does not detect. i was wondering if there is a free driver i could download to sort this problem .please i need your help because i want to upgrade the rom
Windows Mobile devices are connected either via RNDIS or Serial over USB. Usually the decice is in the mode to connect over RNDIS, but when the drivers are missing on the PC they must be installed there. Look for generic RNDIS drivers on windows XP. You could also try to switch the device to Serial over USB mode. This hides in a something like "enhanced functionality" on the USB connection. On is "RNDIS" while off is "Serial" mode.
where can this "enhanced functionality" be found, on the device or on the pc, please guide me i'm kind of new on this things
It is on the phone, probably somewhere in the settings menu. No clue about the menu on your phone as I use a cooked WM6 ROM. Possibly it is even only hidden in the registry somewhere. You will have to search XDA for this a little yourself - I cannot guide you through this.
thanx for yor help
