data connection is intermittent - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi peoples,
I have a curious problem with my data connection.
I'm on T-Mobile and have GPRS set to always connected.
I have push email (via exchange) that works fine and starts receiving emails at 6.30 in the morning (I've set 6.30 to 22.30 as peak time). I also have another email account that if I click Send/Receive connects quite happily and collects my email....but..each morning if I try to use IE to connect to the net, or try to update SPB Weather, or connect to MSN. it tells me that no connection is available. I either have to soft reset, or it will randomly restore itself.
I can't understand why push email works (needs a data connection), my pop3 email will happily connect (needs a data connection), yet IE, MSN or SPB weather wont connect
what do people think of this?

pushmail/exchange confusion... driving me nuts. arrr

Hi. I've been using mail2web services for a while. They were great until the last couple of weeks, now their service goes down like a pro.
So.. I started to look at alternatives.
fastmail -- nice account, IMAP.. but for the life of me I couldn't get it to "push" email to my phone. It supposedly supports IDLE, but I couldn't figure this out. Am I missing a setting somewhere? The thing never pushed mail to my phone at all.
1and1.com -- slightly more expensive exchange2003 account. No .CAB for the activesynch settings, they have to be input manually. No problem, until I set "as arrives" in scheduling and it asks me for an SMS gateway. Uh-oh. Im on Softbank and I know nothing about any gateway.
this post:
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=410683
explains that Exchange works by sending a header SMS to instruct the phone to synch. However, mail2web never asked me for my provider or any SMS gateway.. so if this is how it works how did mail2web do it?
If anyone can shed some light on how to get this working properly, or where to find more technical details on how this stuff works I'd be a lot happier. As it is I'm having to check gmail periodically.
Thanks for your help!
I think your getting mixed up a bit sir, mail2web uses the push feature because it uses your GPRS connection to talk to it. If you ran a netstat program to see what the device is currently connected to you will see an active connection to mobile.exchange.mail2web.com, as soon as an email arrives it signals activsync on your device to synchronise your emails, the device simply tells you that there is an unread message. The connection is always on. If you have GSM signal but no active data connection you wont get your push emails.
The connection is always on but stuff is sent to and fro only when there is a change on one end (for example if you add a new contact.....it will sync with the mail2web server and the new contact will be on there aswell).
and FYI...mail2web has been a bit unreliable lately but its ok at the moment!?
Thanks for the info.
So..... do you have any advice as to how I would set up activesynch the same way to connect to 1and1?
When I set it up it asks me for the gateway, otherwise won't let me choose "when arrives" for scheduling, could this be a setting on my side, or a setting on their servers?
mail2web may be OK now, but for a non-free service 1 whole week of unreliability is enough for me. Who knows how long it'll be up before problems start again.

mail2web seems back to normal service today... Nearly
But yes one week without push... including sometimes when your email just do not even reach your acount and bounce (ie they're just lost...) it's not really what we need
I hope in the future more and more providers will propose Exchange 2007 accounts by default...
I am also a former m2w user. canceled my account in fury after indeed more than three weeks of problems, topped with a week off.
Fortunately my school's email supports ActiveSync so I moved there.
I cannot recommend any particular commercial replacement.
I've heard a few folks using Goodlink, but I am not convinced.
Push email is no joke, once you have it and rely on it, and it goes bananas, the harm is real.
Do we know when mail2web is planning on using exchange 2007??

Pocket Outlook, Flexmail and 'The Internet' connection

Hi,
With gmail release of IMAP, I tried to setup pocket outlook and it does work, however when i set it to pull every 60 minutes, I keep getting a message everytime i wake the Treo there a message saying it could not connect and to check my settigns, but GPRS/3G connection is live at the time.
So I decide to try flexmail, this is working fine, but again there something I cannot figure out, when i put treo to sleep is it still doing the 60 min pull? Because it seems more like each time i wake it, the pull is happening.
Also last things, in connection, I do not have 'The Internet' setting, I have configured my own called 'Internet' and am able to surf and get email so I know this works fine, however if I try to rename it 'The Internet' I get a message saying it exists. But I can't see it. Is there any way of getting it back?
Thanks

Receiving MMS when synching?

I pretty much leave my 2125 hooked to my PC all day since i constantly get outlook updates and such.
The problem i have is when i get a MMS message it wont download it when the cable is connected, i get SMS messages just fine. If i disconnect the cable and download the message it works fine.
The last version of activsync gives you the option to allow MMS receving while sync after installing
i have it checked to "allow wireless connection when connected to the desktop", but it still will not send or receive MMS when its connected. Is there an update to active synch 4.5 or something?
Well I reinstalled activesync few hours ago. I have a HTC tornado (Qtek 8310) and last 3.7 rom.
When activesync finished to install it told me if I wanted to allow MMS while sync, I said yes. And I sent two mms and received one since and cable was connected and it worked fine. I'm receiving emails and everything is sync at the same time.
I suggest you reinstall activesync and make sure to check the option when the install is finish.
Good luck.

GPRS Resume...

Hi everyone...
I have a lil problem, at the moment I'm using the NEO ROM for Vox v0.9 [New XIP 20202] and every time when I'm using a Chat application someone calls me it ends the GPRS session. I finish the call and then would like to resume my chat but I then have to log off and back onto the application restarting the GPRS session.
Is there anyway or setting that after a call is finished, the GPRS session will resume without me going and starting it manually every time....?!
Okay, so I did a test and noticed that when you have the following registry setting changed as below....
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
Under SuspendResume, remove the string "~GPRS!" and replace it with "GPRS_bye_if_device_off"
This will keep your VOX from reconnecting the data connection. When changed back to the default "~GPRS!" setting the connection resumes after the call has ended.....
How am I going the get it to auto disconnect when I'm done and resume when being interrupted...?! Without going to the Connection Manager and stop the Data connection manaully....
Any ideas, anyone.....?!

This is my same issue. I want connection to be automatically restored if it was opened once the call has finished.
Also it would be nice if Outlook could disconnect immediately if had started the connection to do a check mail.
The main issue is battery life... plus recharging every time is quite boring.
Leaving the connection always on would be nice but it is simply not possible as the battery would drain out within 6/8 hours...
Would be nice for skype&fring&whatever even if mobile in standby.
OT...
How does blackberries manage to be always connected and last so long?
Also how does push mail work on bb? I see logs of pop3 stressed mail server by RIM server, is that connected to an IDLE imap on BB? Or is it a conitnuos pop3 send&recieve?
If pop3 (cpu intensive) then my doubt remains, if it is IDLE then we could understand what's with bb lasting so long
OT ooops!
GG
From what I understand the Blackberrys will use IMAP idle but when used with a Blackberry server aren't actually connected continuously. The Blackberry server sends a signal to the phone to indicate there is new mail, the phone then downloads the mail...
If I'm wrong then someone please correct me as messaging isn't really my area of expertise

when device is asleep/standby, no emails or opera web rendering

I recently upgraded to a WM 6.5.1 rom (23504 from 23001). I've noticed that when my device is in standby or sleep, outlook fails to get emails from gmail IMAP. In the past, I would initiate a send/receive and then hit the power button, put my phone in my breast pocket, and return to it later. However this no longer works and I often encounter a synchronization error. Instead, if I leave the phone as is, mail synchronization is fine. Likewise, Opera mobile does not render pages in the background when the phone is in standby/sleep, which is what I used to be able to do.
This is all over 3G/HSDPA network (not wifi, although I did edit the registry to allow wifi to stay connected when the device is put asleep) on an HTC Fuze.
Thoughts. Solutions. Thanks.
