I'm starting to hate the faceted design of the Diamond backside.
Can anyone point me in the direction if getting a standard flat one? I
I'd like to know if this fits the Diamond. The front of the XDA is the Diamond so can't see why it won't fit???
The XDA has rounded corners, so it might not fit. It would be great if it did, though.
I also hate the faceted back. So I sand-papered mine down and then polished it with Plastic Scratch Remover. Started with 180-grain, then 600. I would have used 1200 before polish, but I was out. Now the back of my Diamond got a half-matte finish and it rests steady and flat on a table. Plus, I could fit a thin metal plate for use with my magnetic cell-phoneholder in my car. Though, I can't say it's as pretty as it once was anymore!

Blimey, that's a bit extreme!
I can't find a flat back anywhere. None that look right anyway.
Isn't the o2 XDA the same as the diamond with different back? not the HTC Victor?

Thought so - but 25 Pounds for a piece of 10 cents plastic - that is pure robbery

If you actually look at the Diamond, there is more designed than just the backside: the stylus and internal edges that go under each corner. In other words, it need a Diamond cover. Though it could still be flat of course. I look forward to a 3rd party flat, rough cover (a millimeter thicker with space a 1200+mah battery wouldnt hurt).

I know, but I couldn't wait. I needed to get it working with my car mount ASAP. I'm thinking that in a few months time you can get flat back-covers with replacements batteries with higher capacities quite cheap anyway, so I can replace the one I made ugly by then.
Besides, I bought my Diamond used and really cheap (1/2 retail) because of an already scratched back cover with baby teeth marks(!), so...
may i suggest you go into a phone shop and fob the virginal salesman off with a "just looking story " then try the back off an xda one. I have the mda compact (tmobs ) version which is lovely and flat and rounded so ill try it on me mates diamond on thursday to see if it fits if you want me too!

believe me, the XDA cover does not fit to the HTC back!
sad but true.
I really don't understand why the XDA Ignito back wouldn't fit to the HTC version i.e. the Diamond??? Its exactly the same phone!
In the case of the T-Mobile Compact IV, then there is NO WAY that the backs are interchangeable as its a DIFFERENT phone (specs might be the same but its a HTC Victor, NOT a Diamond).

But does it have the same internal design where the electronics meet the backside? That's the question. The "designed" backside is NOT just slapped on top a "generic" phone: the internals of the back of the phone is formed with the plastic backside.
I mean there is no doubt that 3rd party could produce a compatible back of any shape and design as long as it match this, but you cant just slap a totally different back on it that doesnt match the Diamond itself, even if it looks similar on the outside.
Why wouldn't it be the same internal design? After all, the front internal design must be the same to fit into the same front cover. Why make the manufacturing process harder? By this I mean, for the Diamond there is one internal style and for the Victor(Compact IV) there is another internal style. It would not make sense to introduce a third style for the XDA Ignito that is a combination of the 2.
I have a telus diamond and the back cover looks just like the the one here. http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=172103

Interesting!...although 25 pounds for a cover is a bit of ripoff....
Does it use the same stylus as the normal diamond one?

Obviously, but is the *back* design the same (ie the design without the back cover)?
From the looks of the cover on the Expansys link, its not. There's no way that would fit a Diamond with the "real" Diamond back. The angles of the bottom area where the USB port resides is a dead giveaway: it doesnt match.
Here is a review of the O2 Ignito, it seems to be same as Diamond (P3700): http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/4wm-reviews-hardware/17424-review-o2-xda-ignito.html
The back is pricey, but so are the spare parts always.

The phone may be the same, but the back design is yet again different. The sides on my Diamond (HTC branded, Diamond back) have far greater angles on the bottom plate. Meaning, a back cover such as the 02 would leave two huge gaps on the side (same angles at the top so it would be hard to even get it to attach).
And that is what will make it fail. The corners arent at the same angles.
This is the O2 back internals:

This is the Diamond back internals:

CASES WONT MATCH PEOPLE!!! Close, but not the same.
Has anyone tried yet putting a XDA Ignito back cover on an HTC Diamond?

I got my silicone case for the Touch Diamond today. I ordered it from http://www.netimes.com/shop/black-silicone-skin-case-for-htc-touch-diamond-p3700-p-1200.html.
It fits OK, but there is one thing that I think could be better. The cutout for the USB connector in the bottom is 4cm wide for some reason. Because of this they have not been able to make a hole for the stylus pen. This means that there is no way of taking out the stylus pen when the silicone case is on! Seems pretty strange to me...
If they had made the USB cutout just 2cm wide, which would have been more than enough, there would have been no problem to make a hole for the stylus pen.
I notice that the cover creates a 'raised edge' around the screen. Does it interfere with the touchscreen?
Good question! I'm not using my fingers on the Diamonds touch screen a lot, I usually use the stylus pen.
But after trying it with my fingers for a while, I think that it does intefere a bit when you use the fingers for navigating. If you swipe your finger from the right to the left on the screen, your finger often "catch" the left side of the silicone case and stretch it a bit. But as the silicone stretches without problems, I don't know if it will be a problem in the long run.
damn damn damn!
i fc****ing dropped my Diamond this morining and the beauty is spickled with scratches now. (fortunatly not the screen)
if anyone jumps into a polisher to remove scratches on the lower part where the keys are , please post here
Devaluated by at least 200 US becausew of this ... Damn myself
How about Brando?
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02641&dept_id=004&cat_id=0002
i tried out the silicone case at a local mall
and it seemed ok
it is ugly as ****
but its cheap and does the job...
i decided to stick with a hard clear plastic case though, just seemed a bit better ...
For those of you who already have a silicone case for the Diamond, could you please tell me if you are still able to rub your finger around the edge of the center button and navigate up and down lists? Or does the silicone prevent this from happening (as it is based on capacitance, and given that silicone is an insulator, I would expect that this would stop working...).
BTW, I agree that the cutout at the bottom, way too bug for USB and with no possibility of taking the stylus out, is pretty stupid! First thing I noticed... But despite this I might still be tempted over the stock case I got with my Orange phone.
Thanks
checked this out? link

Works fine with Brando´s silicone case.
Am I the only one who finds it very distracting that the diamond tilts when lying on a flat surface when you're operating it?
I wonder which devil designed that back cover...
Are there flat replacements available?
the xda version got a nice flat backcover with a slip-proof surface. i like this one more than the original bling bling high gloss cover...
nice that your xda has a better cover, but where can we buy new covers......
Hmm... is there any well know company producing such stuff, so we know where to look?
My wish: a back cover like the O2 one (not glossy), but with an extra camera protection, e.g.: simply a retractable black piece of plastic would be enough.
http://www.expansys.com.au/p.aspx?i=166209
Check that out - they've listed it as a Diamond battery cover but the location of where the camera lens cover is, looks to be more like a battery cover release button. Hopefully there are flat covers coming out from HTC.
Thanks! I think it's the correct one.
N.B. The product image is for illustration only, not the actual bettery cover.

Can any one who owns an XDA Diamond (the one from o2) tell me, if the see through lens cover on the flat back still lessens the quality of the camera pics, or if this has changed in comparisson to the prism version?

I lost the back cover to my O2 XDAII a few years ago. I went to an O2 shop to see if I could buy one and they gave me one for free! As the display dummies have their back covers removed and an anti theft sticky pad on string attached. Maybe worth going to your local O2 store and seeing if they will give you the flat cover.
Hmm, I don't really know where to put this post and I didn't feel like my question justified a new thread. Is it possible to pop the piece of plastic, on the back of the diamond, "protecting" the camera lens, out? That should raise the quality of the camera snapshots by a nice margin.

sure it is possible and sure it will improved camera quality, but you will have some more dust getting into your device whitch would be the reason for me not to do so and but often clean the cam-protection.

hmm. i wonder what the US/Canadian versions of the mda/victor look like. they come with a 1340mAh from stock.
Might just look like this
http://promo.telusmobility.com/smar...ct&sku=DIAMOND#gg=OverviewProductStateDIAMOND
I have looked everywhere for an MDA compact 4 specific silicone case, but no one seems to have one. I bought 2 from ebay for the Diamond, but neither fit very well at all and the stylus hole is not in the right place. Why did T mobile change the design ??
I have to agree, it's pretty frustrating at the minute, I mean you can't even get a screen protector at the minute as the diamond one is the wrong shape as MDA has curved screen top & bottom.
Hopefully now that the P3702 has been released in Taiwan and the US the accessories suppliers will start to provide stuff specific for this shape.
Oh and shame on you T-Mobile, i got one of those accessory flyers with mine only to find there is nothing listed for the Compact IV
try here in awhile http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=168071
but you should be able to get some directly from t-mobile, since there were screen protectors included in the retail box.
an we'll probably get different color backs for our mda compact 4, see here
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/15/sprint-readying-a-red-htc-touch-diamond/
and here http://www.slashphone.com/rumor-htc-victor-for-sprint-in-red-151279
already fir for a 1340mha battery.
btw: the htc pouch fits the mda very well.
Still nothing. Something must be out there.
Ya same here, eagerly waiting all the accessories for MDA Compact IV.Loads for accessories are for ugly diamond only at present.
This is ridiculous, someone gotta bring out something for the IV soon.
I too am suffering from the lack of specific accessories for the MDA and I did get 'caught' with a car holder that was supposed to be for the MDA but the MDA is slightly wider... ended up having to shave a ridge off inside the holder (sanded it down as well) and now it's slides in and out a treat (so to speak).
Having said all that I personally think that the design of the MDA is a lot sleeker that the Diamond and even the change of theme I prefer now.

ful body coverage is not going to work very well as the whole of the bottom section are buttons that are going to be constantly moving and after a while you'll get dirt in it? o.0

Hi,
anyone can recommend bicycle mount for HTC Diamond, which could be used for aggressive or extreme bicycle riding?
Thank you,
tampiss
i would be quite interested in that!
just found those h-richter and krusell things, but they don't look like much. they seem to be not so stable, and i would like a case/bag with window wrapped around it...
if anybody finds it, tell us please!
HTC Touch Diamond Waterproof Case
HTC Touch Diamond Watertight Case
You can modify the case with screws or double sided adhesive tape with the (Adapt, Hr and Krussel) bicycle mounts.
Hi,
The only problem with a bike mount is lack of waterproofing.
I use a Boxit 5.1 case which I cable tie to the stem. The diamond fits into it well using the adapters that come with it and it is totally waterproof. An original MDA Compact a Prophet and a MDA Compact 3 have all survived the Scottish wilds in this case.
Here is a pic of it with the Prophet.
The cases from thepocketsolution.com seem to be repacked Otterbox cases www.otterbox.com . The first one, also known as Otterbox 2600 is not suited for the diamond. This is due to the way the screen membrane is hold on its place. The second one also known as Otterbox 1900, will do the job perfectly but is a bit bulky for the diamond. Another great solution will be the Ram Aquabox 3. You can find it on www.ram-mount.com.

Steve,
Here are some photos with the Touch Diamond (MDA Compact IV).
You can access the touch screen to a certain extent. However, near to the bottom where the opening is the membrane slopes away from the phone making it difficult to operate the screen. You could probably shim the back of the phone with some foam or similar to push it up towards the membrane to reduce this problem.

Boxit 5.1
Hi there,
I like the boxit 5.1 you are using, is it the tall or short version?
I'm about to get one from chain reaction cycles but don't want to get the wrong one.
Looking at the dim's on chainreaction...
Model Internal Size External Size
Small Lid 118 x 56 x 28mm (int)
128 x 71 x 42mm (ext)
Tall Lid 132 x 56 x 28mm

I guess the small lid model will fit the diamond... I hope.

Well wanted to tell yall that ive bought the small version and that is fits perfectly on my mtb and suits the diamond well (even with 2000mah battery)
great
hey thats great news. thnks 4 letting us know.

Here are some pics, taken with iPhone 3GS
Hi guys... how do you manage the Diamond to last the entire MTB run? I use the great GPSCycleComputer with map downloading (HSDPA) and I run out of battery in about 1,5 hours.
I was thinking in buying a high capacity battery (I've seen 2400 mAh) but they wouldn't fit in a standard holder because they are thicker. So, by now I'm wearing it in my back pocket.
I'm currently using a Herbert Richter mount... So I can move between car and bike with the same phone holder.
Plus I can keep the car and bike mount when I change my phone!
Very, very good German quality products!
Just as shame they don't do a waterproof holder... so I can only use my holder in good weather.
If they did one, I'd buy it straight away!
Hey everyone!
I'm loving my Verizon TP2, but I'm soo nervous to drop the gorgeous device. I want to add a case to it, preferably a clear skin to prevent extra weight since it already weighs 10lbs. The problem I'm having is that all the skins so far are for the global unlocked edition. I still have the "Remove Before Use" sticker on the front since I don't want to scratch it!
Has anyone seen a skin for the CDMA version yet? How about a thin case?
Ghost Armor
Ghost Armor has what you are looking for. It was created from a Verizon version so it should work great. I believe it is better that the invisible shield because it doesn't have that orange peel type surface which I hate. better quality too.
here are some video shots of it being hit by a weed eater.

Dumb question. This is my first flat screen as I am coming from a 6800 which had a frame around the screen. Your choices are full body and screen only. Does screen only mean the entire front top to bottom or it just fits over the touch screen area? I am thinking that would look like kaka but the site isn't clear.
I have been using Invisible Shield for a while. I don't like the mat finish so much so this looks like it is made out of the same material but with a different finish.
Ghost Armor
The screen only is just that... Only the screen. no border or anything else.
The entire kit has been die cut for the sides and back as well. On my G1 phone there was even a piece for the charging flap.
Also it is not the same material as the invisible shield or any of those other brands. They use the same material as the invisible bra that people can buy and put on their cars. This material is used for helicopter blades and has a different make up and feel all together. I personally wont use anything else.
anyone else used Ghost Armor?
Well I was about to oder the ghost armor for my verizon tp2 and it seems they dont cary it anymore??
The link you provided suddenly changed to GSM version of the skin...
Quoting from the website...
"**Please Note: This product fits the European version, not the T-Mobile or the Verizon."
Yeah I just noticed that myself. I will call my buddy and ask when the real deal will be ready to ship. to me personally it is worth the wait.
I will post when I find out.

THat's odd, from what I've seen the CDMA version is the same shape as the International GSM version. I thought T-mobile was the only one who messed with the shape
I think it is...essentially. The difference is that the phones that have the 3.5mm headphone jack (T-mobile, Verizon) have the usb connector offset to the left, and that whole area at the bottom of the phone is slightly wider.
That's also the reason why the TP2 specific cradles and active car mounts don't fit either.

The T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 doesn't have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, none of the GSM versions do, only the CDMA Models.
SKINS
I was Reading another Forum and someone had found out the hard way that the American Version is slightly wider and the usb port is offset slightly. The International unlocked gsm version will NOT work with your T-Mobile Phone.

Apologies...shouldn't have spoken without looking closer. Good to know it won't fit before I ordered one...still bummed VZ didn't put SOMETHING in the kit for screen protection. Shoot...the one I had on my ATT Fuze lasted a year!

Yep, I had a Fuze too, that was a really good one that came with it! It's weird, my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 came with a screen protector and headphones, but not an extra stylus, but my Verizon Touch Pro 2 came with no screen protector or headphones, but an extra stylus. I remember getting both with my Fuze and Tilt, man these companies are getting chincy!
Yeah - no case, headphones or screen protector in the VZ one. AND, to top it off, the wall charger is ALSO the stinking USB cable...so I have to go buy a second charger so I can leave one at home in the wall socket and keep the USB cable in my laptop bag! That didn't impress me very much.

The T-Mobile one comes with the same set up. They did include a case, though it has no belt clip or anything on it, it's more like a wallet for the TP2 and less like a case.

They added a 2.5 mm headphone jack plug and shifted the USB port over. They are not the same. I have both.

Sweet - just placed mine too.
Does anyone have any experience with Ghost Armor an resistive touch screen devices? How does the material feel when swiping your finger/stylus across? Is it "sticky" and impair your ability for quick motions? I've heard BodyGuardz has the best feel to it. Just curious to get your opinions.
Thanks

I havent used ghost armor before, in fact i havent heard of it untill after the verizon TP2 came out lol.
I had invisible shield and I loved it, but didnt like the "sticky" feel you're describint at first. I got use to it though and didnt mind it after a while.
The ghost armor skin supposedly eliminates the orange peel look, thats why I want to try it.
I'll post back with pics if you'd like to show how it looks on TP2 once I get it in and installed.
Hopefully thats soon, i'm sick of looking at "Remove before use" across my screen lol.
