Am I the only one who finds it very distracting that the diamond tilts when lying on a flat surface when you're operating it?
I wonder which devil designed that back cover...
Are there flat replacements available?
the xda version got a nice flat backcover with a slip-proof surface. i like this one more than the original bling bling high gloss cover...
nice that your xda has a better cover, but where can we buy new covers......
Hmm... is there any well know company producing such stuff, so we know where to look?
My wish: a back cover like the O2 one (not glossy), but with an extra camera protection, e.g.: simply a retractable black piece of plastic would be enough.
http://www.expansys.com.au/p.aspx?i=166209
Check that out - they've listed it as a Diamond battery cover but the location of where the camera lens cover is, looks to be more like a battery cover release button. Hopefully there are flat covers coming out from HTC.
Thanks! I think it's the correct one.
N.B. The product image is for illustration only, not the actual bettery cover.

Damn.. I guess still no flat back battery covers then.
Can any one who owns an XDA Diamond (the one from o2) tell me, if the see through lens cover on the flat back still lessens the quality of the camera pics, or if this has changed in comparisson to the prism version?

I lost the back cover to my O2 XDAII a few years ago. I went to an O2 shop to see if I could buy one and they gave me one for free! As the display dummies have their back covers removed and an anti theft sticky pad on string attached. Maybe worth going to your local O2 store and seeing if they will give you the flat cover.
Hmm, I don't really know where to put this post and I didn't feel like my question justified a new thread. Is it possible to pop the piece of plastic, on the back of the diamond, "protecting" the camera lens, out? That should raise the quality of the camera snapshots by a nice margin.

sure it is possible and sure it will improved camera quality, but you will have some more dust getting into your device whitch would be the reason for me not to do so and but often clean the cam-protection.

Yes I too hate the shinny, wonky, non symetrical, dirt attracting back cover.
Has anyone seen the MDA (XDA) style rubberised back cover for sale? Assuming it fits of course.

Ive asked in separate thread about possibility how to customize plastic back cover. My idea was to either airbrush backcover with standard black or use special ruberized layer. But I dont know how to make that kind of layer I guess Ill have to google to find some option

I got my silicone case for the Touch Diamond today. I ordered it from http://www.netimes.com/shop/black-silicone-skin-case-for-htc-touch-diamond-p3700-p-1200.html.
It fits OK, but there is one thing that I think could be better. The cutout for the USB connector in the bottom is 4cm wide for some reason. Because of this they have not been able to make a hole for the stylus pen. This means that there is no way of taking out the stylus pen when the silicone case is on! Seems pretty strange to me...
If they had made the USB cutout just 2cm wide, which would have been more than enough, there would have been no problem to make a hole for the stylus pen.
I notice that the cover creates a 'raised edge' around the screen. Does it interfere with the touchscreen?
Good question! I'm not using my fingers on the Diamonds touch screen a lot, I usually use the stylus pen.
But after trying it with my fingers for a while, I think that it does intefere a bit when you use the fingers for navigating. If you swipe your finger from the right to the left on the screen, your finger often "catch" the left side of the silicone case and stretch it a bit. But as the silicone stretches without problems, I don't know if it will be a problem in the long run.
damn damn damn!
i fc****ing dropped my Diamond this morining and the beauty is spickled with scratches now. (fortunatly not the screen)
if anyone jumps into a polisher to remove scratches on the lower part where the keys are , please post here
Devaluated by at least 200 US becausew of this ... Damn myself
How about Brando?

i tried out the silicone case at a local mall
and it seemed ok
it is ugly as ****
but its cheap and does the job...
i decided to stick with a hard clear plastic case though, just seemed a bit better ...
For those of you who already have a silicone case for the Diamond, could you please tell me if you are still able to rub your finger around the edge of the center button and navigate up and down lists? Or does the silicone prevent this from happening (as it is based on capacitance, and given that silicone is an insulator, I would expect that this would stop working...).
BTW, I agree that the cutout at the bottom, way too bug for USB and with no possibility of taking the stylus out, is pretty stupid! First thing I noticed... But despite this I might still be tempted over the stock case I got with my Orange phone.
Thanks

Works fine with Brando´s silicone case.
I'm starting to hate the faceted design of the Diamond backside.
Can anyone point me in the direction if getting a standard flat one? I
I'd like to know if this fits the Diamond. The front of the XDA is the Diamond so can't see why it won't fit???
The XDA has rounded corners, so it might not fit. It would be great if it did, though.
I also hate the faceted back. So I sand-papered mine down and then polished it with Plastic Scratch Remover. Started with 180-grain, then 600. I would have used 1200 before polish, but I was out. Now the back of my Diamond got a half-matte finish and it rests steady and flat on a table. Plus, I could fit a thin metal plate for use with my magnetic cell-phoneholder in my car. Though, I can't say it's as pretty as it once was anymore!

If you actually look at the Diamond, there is more designed than just the backside: the stylus and internal edges that go under each corner. In other words, it need a Diamond cover. Though it could still be flat of course. I look forward to a 3rd party flat, rough cover (a millimeter thicker with space a 1200+mah battery wouldnt hurt).

I know, but I couldn't wait. I needed to get it working with my car mount ASAP. I'm thinking that in a few months time you can get flat back-covers with replacements batteries with higher capacities quite cheap anyway, so I can replace the one I made ugly by then.
Besides, I bought my Diamond used and really cheap (1/2 retail) because of an already scratched back cover with baby teeth marks(!), so...
may i suggest you go into a phone shop and fob the virginal salesman off with a "just looking story " then try the back off an xda one. I have the mda compact (tmobs ) version which is lovely and flat and rounded so ill try it on me mates diamond on thursday to see if it fits if you want me too!

sad but true.
I really don't understand why the XDA Ignito back wouldn't fit to the HTC version i.e. the Diamond??? Its exactly the same phone!
In the case of the T-Mobile Compact IV, then there is NO WAY that the backs are interchangeable as its a DIFFERENT phone (specs might be the same but its a HTC Victor, NOT a Diamond).

But does it have the same internal design where the electronics meet the backside? That's the question. The "designed" backside is NOT just slapped on top a "generic" phone: the internals of the back of the phone is formed with the plastic backside.
I mean there is no doubt that 3rd party could produce a compatible back of any shape and design as long as it match this, but you cant just slap a totally different back on it that doesnt match the Diamond itself, even if it looks similar on the outside.
Why wouldn't it be the same internal design? After all, the front internal design must be the same to fit into the same front cover. Why make the manufacturing process harder? By this I mean, for the Diamond there is one internal style and for the Victor(Compact IV) there is another internal style. It would not make sense to introduce a third style for the XDA Ignito that is a combination of the 2.
I have a telus diamond and the back cover looks just like the the one here. http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=172103

Obviously, but is the *back* design the same (ie the design without the back cover)?
From the looks of the cover on the Expansys link, its not. There's no way that would fit a Diamond with the "real" Diamond back. The angles of the bottom area where the USB port resides is a dead giveaway: it doesnt match.
Here is a review of the O2 Ignito, it seems to be same as Diamond (P3700): http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/4wm-reviews-hardware/17424-review-o2-xda-ignito.html
The back is pricey, but so are the spare parts always.

The phone may be the same, but the back design is yet again different. The sides on my Diamond (HTC branded, Diamond back) have far greater angles on the bottom plate. Meaning, a back cover such as the 02 would leave two huge gaps on the side (same angles at the top so it would be hard to even get it to attach).
And that is what will make it fail. The corners arent at the same angles.
This is the O2 back internals:

CASES WONT MATCH PEOPLE!!! Close, but not the same.

little rant...
What really annoys me about this and many cases is the lack of thought around the camera on the back. They leave a slot for it on the back peice of the case which is great, but when you open it up to actually take a photo, you need to hold the case like an open book as there isnt a slot on the front peice. I dont intend on using the camera much but having to hold the front flap out of the way of the lens while trying to get composition, focus and release the shutter is a pain in the bum! If I could flip the front all the way round to the back and hold it flush with the back, that would be far more convenient.

+1!
What also bothers me a little is the slit in the front flap of the case... for US owners, it looks like a mistake since we don't have that speaker there. Other than that, very happy with the quality, low profile and details - rubber footings for landscape upright position, magnet to hold front flap as prop in "keyboard" mode. A little expensive but I did the round about with case buying with the tab 10.1 and ultimately liked the official book case most.
Cases are available at BestBuy and B&H.
Picked one up at Best Buy last night. Absolutely prefer this over the Moko i just got. Only thing missing compared to other cases is a loop for a larger stylus and it's not heavy enough where it needs a handstrap.
I don't care about a camera hole on the front flap (to take pictures when the flap is folded over) as rear camera on this is more vestigial to my tablet use.
I do have issues with trying to stand it up the tall way with the cover - it sometimes wont hold the stand form and flips the tablet down.
This may get easier as it breaks in. There is no clasp magnetic or otherwise that holds the screen cover closed so it will fly open at times.
The tablet is protected on 3 corners (except the one that holds the stylus, obviously), completely covers the plastic back except for camera hole and front flap is thin but should protect the screen well enough in a bag. I like the clean design and it does raise the "premium" feel of the tablet in hand by covering up all the plastic.
I think if you care about adding the least bulk to the unit while still having a means of protecting it a bit, I think it does well.
BTW, if you had the 7.7 and the OEM cover for that, this cover is almost exactly like it - except this front flap is even thinner than the one on that one and can fold to help it stand. The 7.7 form fitting case that Samsung made could only stand by reversing the case flap and it would always fall over.
I bought it from Best Buy as well, it's not my first choice of cases, but it's probably the best out there now. Just too expensive, but I need protection for this unit. I'm hoping Seidio makes a case but I don't think this tablet will sell that well. I hope I'm wrong but it's fairly expensive. I think it is worth it but I have terrible judgment and love electronics.

Just curious, what colors are people getting? I picked up a white one at BB, but thinking about exchanging it for the black...
Every portable device I've owned since my first Walkman, with the exception of my 3rd gen iPod in 2004, has been black, so the white device and matching white case is a welcome change for me.

I couldn't take it anymore and exchanged for the black, lol. The all-white look was burning my eyes.
Picked this up today and it's going back. I do like how thin it is, but I notice the cover has a habit of bowing just enough to wake up the tablet and it's just close enough that it keeps waking it up. Case would be fine without the sleep/wake feature. Anyone know of a good knockoff without the magnet?

You might like the STM Cape. It is a bit different, but appears to be very good quality, and it is less expensive and fairly light weight (judging by specs as I don't have one yet):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251888
I asked them and they confirmed it does not come with a magnet for wake/sleep. Personally that has disappointed me, but you provide a good example of where it can be a good thing to not have wake/sleep.
I've asked STM a few more questions that I'm waiting to hear back on, including what kind of padding is embedded in the front cover. Something that has concerned me about the official Samsung Book Cover is that the front cover seems so thin that I wonder how much protection it would really provide (particularly from any impact). The STM Cape appears to have some kind of stiff material (padding?) in between the outer layer and the soft inner lining. I'll post in the Cape thread whenever I hear back about that.

According to the description it supports "auto sleep and wake up when close and open" but I am not sure if I believe it. I can always open a dispute if it is not true

Hello guys,
I was digging through eBay for some nice flip view cover and found this one.
I really liked the blue/yellow color so for $16.99 I decided to order one (took only 12 days to Brazil! :laugh. Another thing I liked was the fact it doesn't replace the original back cover, it has its own case to hold the device.
The back case is translucent and has a different texture in the area that makes contact with the surface you put it on, so it wont make scratches on the case. That was well thought, imho.
The front flip is made of very good material, some rubber/plastic soft thing I don't know the name. The back of it is like suede, so it won't scratch the screen.
All parts are very well finished.
I am fully satisfied with it. :victory:
Well, check out the pictures of it in my Dropbox:

They do have an online store, buy I couldn't find the case there, so here's the eBay link where I bought it:

Thanks for your review. Have a couple of questions for you.
Does the front flip stay fully closed? Can you manipulate the volume keys?
Yes it does and the sight works well.
If you look the 5th picture, you can see the volume up and down indicators. They work normally, as in the original S-View cover.

Either this or the original one will not stick closed to the phone, seem that the magnet is only for the S-View function, and not to keep it shut,
But I think I got your question: the cover is very plain, it is not bent to the point it would float in some parts of the gadget.
Yes, the window has a kind of glass (some really hard plastic) to protect the phone's screen.
I've been using it for a while already and it does not have any scratch, but I always carry it alone in a pocket...
Im from the UK and have looked everywhere to try and find a place that sells the original stock self healing back cover that came with the phone.
I lost the original, can anyone please help.

Just like Wiro i ordered both red versions (flamenco and volcano red). One came with a dented usb cutout and no infrared cap, but the other is pretty nice. The color of both covers looks identical, yet it is different from my original red cover, but only slightly. The original red cover i have has a more metal look. I just want this phone to last me some time so grabbing some spare parts isn't a bad idea.
hope it helps you guys.
infared port

i tried removing the infrared part of my old busted cover and putting it in the one wich came without and was dented near the usb port, figured that i'd first use that one instead of using the perfect one.
it fitted but you need something like a hot part of metal to melt the little pins that stick out a bit or the infrared part will fall out the whole damn time and the cover won't even fit.
The one that came with the infrared part is the red one on the aliexpress color selection.
The purple (wich is also red) came without infrared part for me and was dented near usb port.
Hope this helps.
Do those replacement covers also have the self healing feature coating and do they show the circular pattern on the back?
the original scratched so easely, and these replacements don't ... so i'm suspecious about my original cover in the first place.
the replacements do have a rubbery feel to them if you try to scratch them with your nail, so i suspect it has the coating yes.
far less scratches on the replacements then my original cover ...

Thanks for all the info!
Which red? Flaminco or Volcano? The page now has red at the end of both so I can't choose the "red" version with the infrared part.
