Battery drain - power consumption of rdosti's and Tomal ROMs - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I also saw faster battery drain on my Qtek 9000 after I installed TOMAL V8, so decided to check the actual current drain on the ROMs.
I used BatteryStatusExt.1.05.CAB to show the current in mA. I installed a ROM, reset, then installed the BatteryStatus app and set it to show power consumption as a Today plugin, with 1 second refresh. Then I waited for the backlight to turn off and the number (mA) to settle. I did the test with a 4Gb card inserted, with a SIM card in a GSM network. All other radio was off: BT, WLAN, IR. I used radio 1.10.3 (incorrectly labeled 1.09 on xda-dev's FTP!).
I didn't check standby figures - they can be seen by checking the number immediately after getting out of standby, as the BatteryStatus plugin takes a while to refresh
rdosti v11
140-160mA but in 3G mode !!! I couldn't get it to switch to GSM
TOMAL v8
~120mA
SHIVAM310
80-100mA
minhanhtran (ROM UNI G3 OS 5.2.20270) :
~128 mAh
So there is a difference! And that's with no additional apps but BatteryStatus, and with backlight off.
With 120mA, a 1600 mAh battery will drain to 0% in 1600mAh/120mAh = 13.3 hours, with 80mA it will go to 0% in 20 hours....
So with my oldish battery I will wait for rdosti to fix the "Notes not working" bug on his SHIVAM release
I think the difference could be noticed also with applications running, but it is harder to test.

With Ranju 7.7 and 3G my battery drains in just a few hours, never lasted a whole day. 13-odd hours - I should be so lucky. New battery, BTW.

Confused
I used batter status and show my drain is 642mA but my battery last for about a day (4-6) Hours of actual using.
Battery 1600 mA
Rom Tomal 8
Radio 1.15

I'd check the drain in mA and compare it with another ROM - SHIVAM310 for example (comparing a clean install of both ROMs + BatteryStatus + waiting for a few minutes with backlight off). Backup the entire system to a card first, of course.
Also, try a task manager to see if a process is keeping the CPU busy.

No with all versions
I´m using v7.6 and my battery, which is the original since aug 05, last me aprox. 24-30 hrs. Using wifi and surfing 1 h, gprs, 4 h, bluetooth 2 h and ocasionall music.
I must say that tested v.7.7 and noticed a faster drain of my battery and return to 7.6!
And is the perfect combination of stability (Performance) and speed
Congrats Tomal! so far the best ROM
Cheers to all

I have tried several 6.1 ROMS all flashes done with battery at 100% and tested with several ROMS that was the same whichever battery I tried. For example tomals 7.7 would eat 18% of a 1600ma battery with it closed and idling overnight for 8 hours, this reduced to 14% if cache was disabled and the performance application options removed. This compares to the best battery consumption I got from Shivam 310 with office, SPB shell and voice command added that lost 3-4% in the 8 hours overnight. Needless to say I am sticking with the latter as it is more in line with the quoted life in the manual for all activities.

I've installed BatteryStatusExt.1.05.CAB to test the current ROM I'm using (minhanhtran ) but I alway get 181mA, this is independent of the configuration e.g. GSM on or off, WiFi on or off and so on, so there is something I'm missing or what the hell is happening... any hints?
Marco.

Would be good if some knowledge member of this forum adivise us which radio has better battery performance
Cheers

pls use different radio version
anybody had tried different radio version for battery consumption ?
I don't have the meters but, 1.09 last my battery longer than 1.11

I tried 1.04 1.09 1.15 and 1.18 with the T 7.7 rom and it didnt make any real difference to battery at all I also tried 1.09 and 1.15 with shivam 310 and both gave me 3 times the battery life of tomals rom with the same radio so i am of the opinion the key thing is the right rom flashed while the battery is at 100%

I´m using 1.08 and my battery (the original since 2005) lasts 24-30 hour
I can´t ask more of my old battery so I suppose this radio is a good one

I 've the Tomal's one. With a normal use my SPV M5000 is up for 3-4 days.
Every time a cooker distrubutes a new rom there is someone yelling for an abnormal power consumption.
Real!
With new Rom the battery goes down very fast... cause the owner is testing everything, install all utilities & inutilities, and after 4-6 hours the battery line is down. After some days, with normal use, the Universal is going good again.

my consumation is about 180mA in batterystatusext105
I tried nev pdaviet 20273 rom and original 20270. It is nearly same. I have brightness on 2 degree and 128 MB ram. I think, ram is more depend on power consumation

The reason Tomal's ROMs seem to use more battery power, is because they come with the CPU overclocking option enabled to 624Mhz by default, and some of the power saving options in Schaps advanced config are disabled.
If you reverse the above, they should be the same as the other ROMs in terms of battery consumption, if not even better.

Huge powerdrain Faria WM 6 WWE

Since two days I'm having a huge power drain on the faria WM6 WWE os. Anybody else having the same problem. I already edited my reg (HKLM/Drivers/SDCARD/ClientDrivers/Class/SDMemory_Class/DisablePowerManagement change this value to 0.) but it won't help.
power drain is losing approximate 5% of battery within one hour...
Never I had this problem with all the others WM6 os versions (until now). And this is bad because I love the faria os versions. Theire good, fast and stable.
i have noticed the same thing, i thought it was something extra i installed but most of the wm6 roms i have tried are battery hungry, i wonder why? if my phone is 100% and i dont make any calls 2 hrs later i go to use it and its at 75%
mun_us rom is wm6 and the battery has never lasted so long since i had it
when i first flashed the rom it installed this cab file straight away with others i have attached it maybe thats whats helping out my battry life
Save That Power
Open up Batery Status by Clicking and Holding the icon for it on the home screen. Tweak the OMAP settings. Set the over clock to or around 260. Then turn the scaler on. set this to the original cpu Speed. That should help. Worked for me.

I had noticed the same with this ROM and tried to enable the scaler. It had no impact. I moved back to mun_rus which as easymob says is much kinder on the battery.
It would be useful if some could confirm his thoughts on this.
I notice that my battery will drain faster when I am using my EDGE connection for internet or streaming purposes, but for anything else the battery seems to last much longer (sitting idle or simple phone calls)...

It activates power management for you sd card.
The default setting is off wich means you sd card is running at full power thus draining your battery faster.
With the setting on, power is only consumed when you're actually using the sd card therefore saving your battery.
I used the CPUScaler from BatteryStatusTool which is in rom. Setting it to 121mhz, so battery last for a long time. in standby the cpu dont needs so much frequency, even with programs like im+ in the background.

Infrared modules are very efficient in recent devices so should cause very little battery drain at all. I remember a report someone did using their Axim on Aximsite.com and they reported that with IR off the overall extra operating time bonus was less than a minute.
No Probs with MB WM6
I had battery issues with other WM6 roms, but don't have that issue with MB WM6 rom. Not sure what is different.
Try putting your pda near a bunch of IR devices, and watch your pda get battery drained!

Today al of a sudden my battery started draining rapidly. I have the Faria now for a week & was very happy with it. But now my power drops extreme fast. I have nothing new installed. I enabled the powersaving for SD, but that doesn't help. Wondering what's causing this all of a sudden drain.

Well that's pretty obvious, I meant when the unit is in standby because generally the Wizard isn't going to be near/communicating with IR devices. In standby it is very efficient like most things compared to being powered up. Also I just got Noviiremote coincidentally and I found that the IR module was pretty weak, especially compared to my old Axim, I have to be very close to use it. If its weak then its probably not using much power so I would say IR, unless being surrounded by IR devices a lot is of insignificant drain to the battery.
I also had the powerdrain issue with the Faria rom; but when I deleted the SC.lnk and javapushservice.lnk with the StartUp Manager it seems I lost the powerdrain issue.
I disconnected my phone at 7am this morning and now it's almost 11am and I lost 3% with use of Pushmail, Internet GPRS and 2 phonecalls.

What does these two do? especially SC.lnk? - Sorry. I got the ans. Thanks anyways. I will test and let the forum know.
SC.lnk is the shortcut to rotate the screen; that one should probably have no effect.
The javapushservice.lnk starts the elatepushservice; I assume that one consumes the power

I have keep track of my battery usage. And it is miserable.
Yesterday 11/01/2007 @7:16am battery is at 100% by 8:50 pm battery is @ 14% the only thing I had on is Bluetooth.
Today 11/02/2007 @ 9:06am battery is @100% by 9:17pm battery is at 5%.
Both days I had to hit reset twice due to screen freeze that every time led to eventual screen pixilation.
Does anyone know of issues with any of the software I have installed or what is causing the extreme battery drain? Any help will be greatly appreciated, as 12 hour standby time is simply unacceptable.
Might not help, but have you tried Kaiser Tweak?
It is a simple app that will turn off your data connections after they idle along with a couple of battery savers. You might just need to condition your battery a little but don't expect the phone to last more than a few days of normal use (I don't even have bluetooth on all of the time.)
Hi
Bluetooth drains the battery quickly as the device needs to remain fully on (even though the screen is off) in order for Bluetooth to work.
When the device is on then any other applications that like to do things will use processor power as well making matters worse.
Regards
Phil

I think alot has to do with how strong the cell signal is in your area. The stronger it is, the less searching, the searching will kill a battery

Agreed. Problem is the radio is so [email protected] that it really struggles on my home network. I might try another Sim from a different carrier and see if it helps.

Ok, guys What kind of battery life do you get with bluetooth ACTIVE? You really don't expect me to believe that you only get 12 -13 hours of battery life. My wizard gets 2 1/2 days and that device is 1 1/2 years old. Are you telling me bluetooth tech has gotten worst in a year and a half. Please respond. And belchie Please explain how you manage get such inpressive battery life.

Battery life?
I have to keep it plugged in to appreciate the phone. Data usage, TeleNav, are all battery killers.
One last thing
Even if you aren't connected via data connections, do you have the 3G radio on the phone turned off? Simply having that radio on and available drains the battery like you can't believe. The first day that I had that one, my battery drained like crazy. But turning that off and leaving blue tooth running all day my battery drop is considerably less.
Welcome to 3G.
12 hours battery life is pretty much what I shoot for with an active 3G connection. Where the technology stands today, it simply annilihates battery life.
If you want to see battery life like your wizard, then simple turn off the 3G bands. Your device will have no problem lasting 1-2 days.
As new ROMs keep coming out battery life should continue to improve, but you won't see anything comparable to your wizard unless you turn off the 3G or use a Bandswitch app to deactivate it when not in use.
ME too
I got the same rom and the tilt.....same problem

I have it turned off 3G with the Comm Manager should I be turning it off some other way. According to the Comm Manager the ONLY thing I have on is bluetooth. I have 3g off, data connection off, MS push off, Beam off, WLAN off. As I said when i turned the bluetooth off I dropped only 2% power but once I turned on the bluetooth within an hour i was down to 83%.
Was the device in sleep mode the entire hour and still drained that much??? If that is the case maybe you have a bad battery, because otherwise you should not see that much power drain.
When I turned 3G off on my 8525 I could easily get 1-1/2 days with bluetooth on. Haven't used much bluetooth since getting the Tilt, however, so maybe there are some power management issues with the bluetooth.
Does turning BT off help your battery drain?
Discarge totally the battery 10 time, and recharge at maximum and more time.
The battery work 3 day, no prob.
Bye

Not necessarily. EDGE eats up more more battery life for me as it has a very poor signal strength versus the full strength 3G signal I get. I get about two days on 3G (if I can keep it on 3G) and I get maybe 10 hours on Edge...

ROM with best battery life???? Help me plzzzzz

Hello friends ,
It have been 2 weeks since i got my universal (o2 xda exec) , I have tried most of the WM6 roms here , but most of them dont give good battery life..
Anybody know which is the best ROM with Best battery life? or any tips how to improve the battery life?
I usually read books and rarely hear music and i have 4 apps installed and i find the battery drain fast within 3.5hours. For this reason i turned off the phone and wifi. My uni is a new one , i dont want to have the charger all the time with myself.. I go places , do please help me..
Thanks in advance
battery life is awfull and unpredictable
I have the same problem. I use the same crossbow 2.12.08 version
with update radio ( from 1.15 ) to 1.18
I have a larger battery 3200 mAh, but th ebattery life is never more than one day. Though the battery is brandnew...
Worse is that when charging sometimes it shows 100% but most of the time this drops within a few minutes ( 2-4 ) to 97%
Then after 1-2 hours it is on 60% while usage is minimal. no WLAN, no BT
Also sometimes for some reason the battery is very warm ( during loading ).
When disconnected it turns out the universal is almost empty. Tried to disconnect the battery and leave it outside for 5 minutes then back in. but nithing seems to really improve. Also without memory card the results are more or less the same. Also always I close the applications fully.
Maybe someone can tell me what are the possible reasons...? Is is the software. Does it not see the actual charge correctly? Or is there a "hidden"battery user. Read the article about leds and all that, but this is way out of that league.
Rgds
I think that your battery is no good. My battery is 2 years old, it's the original battery 1650mAh and the battery life is 2.5 hours with WiFi enabled (internet navigation via WiFi)
If you want your battery to last longer, check the wiki:

Before blaming ROMs check the device with another battery. I had the same problem too, checked several ROMs and even downgraded to WM5 and at the end it appeared that my battery simply dies, while my other battery showed far better lifetime.
You are definitely having a battery issue rather than ROM. I am using 2.1.2.08 also and can get 3 days of normal mixed use from my original 1620mah battery.
Why not try "resetting" the battery, as discussed in previous forums, I for one can testify to it's success.

[REF]Elf's battery drain observation

Hi guys,
I have been struggling for quite a while to investigate why my battery drain is about 150mA best case. I have installed Onyx micro version and disabled almost all unnesessary services and applications, and yet could not live a day even in stand by mode without recharging. Battery capacity is 1100mA, so with 150mA drain, it lasted less than 10 hours per day.
I have checked almost all available ROM's on this site, starting with the original HTC one.
No luck ! So, I've concluded it was no ROM issue. Then, I started to play with IPL and SPL. I had both version 3.14.
To make the long story short, I found the best combination of IPL 3.14 and SPL 3.10
Now I have 91-100mA stand by current drain all the time. Sometimes during the night this value droops to 41mA.
I am preety happy with this and also wonder whether anyone has managed to get a better battery life for his Elf ?
Cheers.
The two things you haven't looked at are the radio and the SIM. I'd try with a different sim for 24 hours and search for the best radio rom. My Elfin battery life is terrible but I think it's down to using M2D.
there is a lot of factor that could affect the battery life, from software, to hardware, the most common problem, is battery age, as old your battery are, the less it will hold the charge. on my elfin I have onyx 5.1.1, IPL 3.10 and HSPL 3.10, radio 3.39.90(I'm having better signal with almost no difference in battery drain) I use the backlight on the second darker step, not the default second brighter one. I usually take no more than 10 calls at day, each one of about 1 to 2 minutes, usually don't use(and is always off) the wifi, the bluetooth I use it occasionally while driving about 3 miles from work to home, and to listen to music at work, 1 or 2 hours per day. data connection(EDGE) is always on, but not used very often just to check email once in a while and update weather once of two time a day.
my battery holds for 2 days, most 2 days and a half.
I think your battery may be the problem, maybe is quite old.
dont forget it can be affected by the network coverage too. in fact some of the power regulation in gsm network is managed from the base station.
EDIT: i mean, besides a hundred other things network-controlled that can affect your battery life, the antenna can actually tell your phone how much power it must use when transmitting.

Abnormal battery drain

Hi,
i have an abnormal battery drain on my mda vario iv. The battery with light use up to 30min internet, 3-4 texts, 5min phone call drains in 5-6 hours. The e mail is set to manual, weather too, wi-fi is off more than 75% of the time, backlight to auto, energy saving to turn off screen and phone... I have the Energy ROM Photon 2, and 1.14.25.35 with matching rilphone. Tried a fer battery cabs, and some GPS cabs, because I have an enormous lag, that seemed to drain the battery even further.
Please help
I changed the radio to 1.14.25.05 with matching rilphone. The problem seems to be with gps, i used the gps for 15min, left it at 80% it went to sleep for 2 hours, and after I woke it up it was on 33%?!!
Help please

Hy Hy,
got the same problem... but don't know why...
I made a radio update to 1.11.25.01 since it is gone.
May be it is a problem with the newer versions?
thanx for the reply
could be, i will try,and report back. Definetely Energy ROM is very power consuming, the best reviews battery-wise are for Timolols roms, but the links are broken, and can not be downloaded. Energy rom is nice and smooth, but the ram consumption on idile is 55%,and that takes a lot of power. I tried a lot of tips from various sites, but nothing seems to work. Is there a program that can measure power consumption in certain moments?
seems like it's your radio as mentioned before. some energy roms have been great on battery life (i've gotten up to 36 hrs!) and some die after 8. maybe try a different version of the energy rom too?
My Ram consumption on idile is 43-48% and i use my Touch Pro to hear Mp3's the hole day at work ... and got a Battery livetime of about 9 to 11 Hours ...
But if i use my Navigation system it dies in about 2-3 hours... is it normal for GPS?
yes it is normal for gps use. 3h is actually a good result
I have had my Fuze for a few days now, also flashed to an Energy ROM (21885) and radio version 1.02.25.32. I am pretty disappointed with the battery life, I have it connected to a USB cable for most of the day, so its charged at work. When I leave at 4pm, the phone is barely touched until 6:30am the following day, at which point the battery is dead.
Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS are all off, I have GLight, ASKicker and nueROM Processor running on Powersave mode. I have not messed with the settings of these much yet, but am surprised at how poor the battery really is.
I will probably end up picking up a 1500mAH battery at some point.
lately ive had terrible battery life because of data.
i have average while texting and just using the phone
but data can take off about 7 pct every 10 mins. that dont seem normal to me
