Windows update fails (Error 80072f05) - General Topics

I've searched the forums and couldn't find any post so I hope I'm not duping
Anyway, my problem started after the first time I used Sprite backup to restore my PPC (HTC Diamond) after my first ROM update (official Swedish one). Whenever I try to search for updates (I know there's none out yet) it fails with the error "Could not connect to the update server. Control your connection settings and that the devices date and time is correct" Error code 80072f05. So I tried a hard reset without restoring anything and it worked, also it kept working after I restored just what I really needed from the backup (emails, sms, address book). Yesterday I checked again to make sure that the problem hadn't returned, but it had. So today I tried a hard reset again, but with no luck even without me touching anything what so ever.
I would be grateful if anyone knew what could cause this problem, and how to resolve it.
Thanks!

Outlook Mobile will not load, no access to messages

I have an O2 XDA Exec running one of the old Crossbow ROMs (one of those where it's "Outlook Mobile" instead of "Messaging", I forget exactly which ROM it is I went for at the time). One thing I quite enjoy is that even after switching devices and upgrading the ROM is still having every SMS I've sent or received since summer 2006. This might all end here, sadly, as Outlook Mobile won't load and neither of the SMS backup programs I've tried have worked.
Here are the symptoms:
When I try and load Outlook Mobile (regardless of whether it's from the Start menu, HTC home screen, the messaging part of the today screen or the text option in Contacts) it simply does nothing.
I have tried two SMS backup programs. The EasyHelper "Contact + SMS Backup" which I normally use flashes up an error saying "Read SMS failed. Please restart device and try again. If the problem still exists, please contact your vendor.(401)" The other one (which I forget the name of now) failed to show a list of folders to backup from and if I ignore that option and try to back up anyway it sits for a while trying and then gives up (it says it's finished but it lies, the resulting file is way too small).
Don't know if this is related but the problem started around the same time. After having my device switched on for a minute or so a message will appear saying "Voice Command has encountered a problem. Restart Voice Command and try again." I don't use Voice Command so this isn't the problem but this error started showing around the same time this started.
When someone sends me an SMS nothing happens.
Don't know if this is normal or not, I get an access denied error when I try and do *anything* with cemail.vol (copy, rename, whatever)
Everything else seems to work fine (except ActiveSync but I can't remember the last time I had that working anyway, I don't use it).
I have tried:
Many soft resets.
Killing poutlook.exe and removing from the Today screen anything that might interact with the messaging.
Launching Outlook Mobile in different ways.
Two SMS backup programs.
Sending myself an SMS from a different phone.
Nothing works and I can't access my messages. Obviously as someone who's been keeping messages for about two years now (crossed the 10,000 mark I think) I'm slightly annoyed about this. I'm planning to reflash my phone to a newer WM6 ROM as soon as I'm not using it as my sole method for Internet access so my only concern here is saving my mass of text messages (either in a format I can read on my PC or a format I can restore from after reflashing my Universal).
If only I'd known before tonight that there was a free program to backup SMS on a schedule...
Any ideas at all? I'm comfortable doing registry hacks or typing commands or whatever needs doing. My messages are on this device somewhere and I want them. There's important nostalgia in there. Help greatly appreciated as ever.
Huh. It works now. No idea why, just got a text message today having not tried it for a couple of days and it seems okay. Frantically taking backups now.
Something on my SD card was messing it up, not sure what but removing the SD card allowed me to back up my messages. I removed the SD card, allowed it to create a "Storage Card" folder when it fails to save something to the SD card (it does this) and then reinserted the SD card and had the backup software back up to "/Storage Card2".
Weird. But I've solved the problem (in my case) and made a note of it on the offchance it might help someone coming in from Google someday.
ROM flashing time!
Thank youu!
Thank you very much... I had the same problem, but noticed it only yesterday!
Apparently I have been receiving sms messages since 3 or 4 days, but it shows nothing on my today screen. Yesterday I tried to open outlook because a friend told me he sent me a message, but... nothing!!!
When I removed the SD card it worked
But no messages since 3 or 4 days! and thus can't know who sent me messages
Anyway, thank you for your thread... and yes, I came from Google
sorry to bump an old thread, but this exact problem happened to me out of nowhere today. google searched it and this thread came up. i noticed i hadn't received even spam in my email to day and that error popped up about voice command. removed my sd card and it all went away.... very strange.
i have not installed any new programs either...

Activesync keeps on restartting

i understand that this question may have been asked many times in this forum but considering that they are rather dated and i have yet to get a solution to my problem i thought i started a thread here. Do bear with me as i'm rather new to using a WM device and to this forum but i thought this would be the best avenue to hear opinions and suggestions.
i'm currently using a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1i, ROM version1.02.931.3
all along when i have been using this phone, never once did Activesync start up on its own unless i connected my phone to my PC.
Recently, i accidentally pressed upon turning on the Microsoft Direct Push option found in my Comm Manager program and ever since then (even after turning it off) Activesync has been constantly been running minutes after me having closed the program.
I have tried many methods that i have come across while checking search results in google and in here (especially in the wiki).
from creating a fake server to having set my schedule updates to manual for both peak an non peak timings, to having disabled AppRunAfterTimeChange from the notifications list of the program “repllog.exe”. i have even deleted all notifications relating to “repllog.exe” (thank goodness to memmaid being able to restore the notifications!) and still the problem occured off Activesync still running by itself after having been closed.
i'm kind off exhausted as to how to resolve this problem of mine, i do know that some pple would voice that Activesync running all the time is normal but having gotten my phone without this issue it would please me most if i can actually have this problem not occuring at all
i do appreciate you having to read my mini wall of text and do hope that someone out there has a solution!
quickmenu is supposed to be able to close it permantly when active sync is closed, but thats not much good if u dont sync. I have had this issue before. Now for some reason my jamin with 6.1 doesnt do it (but never used exchange before) and my polaris does (have used). The only way i was able to stop it was a hard rest, drastic i know.
I'll have a search for you as i have read other methods but cant remember if they were successful or not!
well i didn't have that problem when i first got my x-1 : |
really have no idea wad to do to get it back to its previous state
as much as i've gotten used to activesync popping out forever
but i'd really wish for a solution where i can get it to be 'away' and come on only when i sync

cannot access poutlook mail

Hi everyone,
I've got a huge problem with my touch cruise:
A few weeks ago, something happened with my phone and I could no longer access any of the mail features of outlook. I performed a hard reset, switched to a new rom, and now the problem is back!
In M2D, the email accounts disappeared (says "no accounts"); and the text messaging says "no messages. If I clicked on messaging in the start menu, nothing happens.
I can still access all of the other features of outlook - contacts, calendar, and tasks work fine.
When this first happened, I searched around, tried a few things that might have helped, and nothing worked. I performed a hard reset, and installed a new ROM (originally was M-AMINE's final, now is c_shekhar's most recent with footprints included), and things seemed to work fine. Now, just last night, the exact same thing happened as before.
The first time I had installed imappusher a day or 2 before, so I thought that might be the culprit. This time, however, I did not install that software, and the error still happened.
Any thoughts? Potential culprits? Ways to fix it? Ways to prevent it in the future?
Thanks for reading,
-Talbot
weird timing, someone else posted a similar problem right before me, and there's a solution that seems to have worked in there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486297
Snapphane's fix worked for me, or at least it allows me to access the mail part of outlook so far (I have not re- set up the email accounts- it looks like all of my mail has still disappeared).
I went to the storage card with file explorer, and deleted a folder called something like "inbox.msi.233406...", and now all of a sudden I can get into the mail fine.
Thanks snapphane, and lets hope it keeps working!

Messages will not be erased after soft reset (WM 6.1)

Hello all. I have an HTC Touch Diamond on Bell. The issue I have is quite annoying. I want to avoid a hard reset as much as possible. Basically, the problem I have is that when I delete messages, they will always reappear after a soft reset. Any messages I received between the last reset message will be deleted once a soft reset is performed. For example, I received a message on May 23rd and messages received after that are not kept once I soft reset. I found users with a similar issue here: http://www.technologyquestions.com/...general/225754-text-messages-wont-delete.html
I have tried everything. Clearing ALL text messages doesn't even work. I clear my messages, wait overnight, then in the morning, soft reset, all the messages have returned. I would appreciate any help that you can give.
PS: It does the same thing with my email. I have 2 new emails in one of my three accounts, which I delete, and then sync again. After a soft reset, they have returned along with all the other text messages. It's very frustrating!
I should also say that I am not using a cooked ROM, I'm using the stock Bell ROM. Anyone have any ideas?
I've heard of this problem before.. and to be honest, i couldn't find a solution other than hard-reseting or replacing the ROM... i'm sorry..
wm reads your pim files everytime it loads.. and apparently you have a problem erasing data from within the file.. no idea why.
wait for a couple of days to see if someone managed to solve this.. if not, i'd hard-reset.
Thank you for your reply. I did a hard reset. I just hope this problem won't return. I really don't want to do a hard reset every 2-3 months!
flash new roms
you will be hard resetting every 2 weeks and finding out how much better your phone can be
try out the new microsoft my phone software you can sync over the network so you dont lose anything when you hard reset

Click to collapse
I flashed a cooked ROM in the past and I didn't like it at all. The time stamps on messages were way off and even when changing the time manually it would switch back.
And thanks for the MyPhone suggestion. I've been using it since April and has worked pretty good so far. I also used Dashwire which worked nicely as well.
cooked ROMs in this forum are usually fantastic. you probably just stumbled upon a sucky one. I always suggest cooked ROMs as they are faster and more useful than the official ones (to be honest, i wouldn't be surprised if HTC actually assume their official ROMs will only be used for reference applications and system packages)...
also, ALWAYS backup your data. ALWAYS!
you can use PIMBackup2.8 to backup messages/recent calls/appointments/tasks.... and SPB Backup/Sprite Backup/Resco Backup...to backup you system.
dont soft reset hold the power button until the popup appears then press yes... worked for me
If you soft-reset just in few seconds after deleting mesages, they'll appear again. They'll also appear again if you don't let time to write again the registry.
For soft-resetting, better use an app to do this, slowly. If not, take your time to power off after some minutes. Remember the message "everything you did not save will be lost" and apply it for the fact you deleted the messages but this deletion was not "saved" yet if you don't take you time.
As I stated earlier, I even waited overnight to reset, and have done it by holding down the power buttion. They would still come back. Something was corrupt and only a hard reset would fix it.
Regarding the cooked ROM, I used MightyROM before and it gave me issues.

[Q] Zune Marketplace Issue

I bought some free products from the Zune marketplace through my pc, but they've never appeared.
I connected the phone through wifi to try to install these products but useless.
Three updates appeared, when i try to update them, this message appears:"The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable right now.....".
When you try to install an application through the phone, this message appears:"can't get this info right now check back in a little while."
I have read a lot about this issue and tried to do many steps and things but useless and didnt find a solution that solves this issue.
hint: it was working well before.
I had what sounds like your issue last week. Check to make sure that you haven't disabled cookies in IE on the device. If you have, re-enable them and let us know if you can install updates from the marketplace again. It appears that there is a dependency on IE cookies for app installation.
I tried several things deleted the history in explorer and search, I made sure of enabled cookies, many restarts, my location is set to USA in windows live account which is the same log in of the Zune. But useless.
Some people says to hard reset the device which I fear to make it and may not work and can't install the apps I already did.
I know its a pain but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Zune?
The problem appears when am not connected to the PC through WiFi or data connection , so I don't think the Zune is related.
