I once had a rom that allowed java programs to access the internet through t-mobiles wap, unfortunately there were other instability issues so I removed it. I can't even find it anymore, does anybody know of any roms that work with t-mobiles wap, so I can run opera and get away from pie.
It seems I was able to find the solution. jbed seems to use the system proxy settings, which appears to be the key to it all. i will post the links to a review of all the different midlet managers
Okay, I've been using Skyfire on my Shadow with the T-mobile $5.99 plan for a few day's now. Of coarse it doesn't load pages as quick as a WiFi or 3G connection, but it does in fact work pretty well. After an extensive amount of research & tweaking with my internet settings (for a while) , I was able to figured out how to make it work. Its pretty simple & my way is actually a little more complicated. The simple fact is that Skyfire can not operate though proxy & I want to keep my proxy settings in case I may still need them.
How to:
1. Download a little & very useful application called nodata from here. http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
(you must register first in order to download any apps at Modaco)
2. Install nodata cab.
3. On the Shadow (these settings should be very similar on the Dash & any WM6 - 6.0 Smartphone & PDA) go to settings, connections, GPRS, New connection, name it what ever you want (I named mines T-mobile new APN), connects to The Internet, Under Access Point enter epc.tmobile.com & hit done.
4. On the Shadow, from the home screen hit start, click on the nodata application icon. Ones the application opens hit the toggle button to disable the data connections that are enabled on your phone except for the new T-mobile APN connection that you've just made. Hit exit & you'll be prompted to confirm the exit, so hit yes. In my case, I have a data connection through proxy for web browsing to the internet & a second proxy connection for downloading emails through my work connection. If you want to find out how I did both connections you can find it out here. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1275435
If you've followed the steps correctly than Skyfire will work. I'm not sure if the new APN is available in every state yet, so that may also be another factor why it may not work for you. (I'm in Chicago).
I have to give credit to where its due. I found the APN info here. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1434021
Jotiger-
this is a great trick. i swa it at shadow site. i did it on my shadow and my dash. but when done in my tilt which is unlock and running on t-mobile it does not work i wonder what it is.the wap.voicestream.com works for opera google maps and pie. have no idea
T-Mobile is about to do away with T-Zones and replace it with something called Web2Go which from what I understand will be more expensive than $5.99/mo.
I'm posting this here as opposed to a general forum, because I've found that Opera performs differently on my Touch Pro as compared to my 6700 that was replaced.
On my 6700, when using Opera - I'd regularly get to the full websites I'd see on a desktop, and not mobile versions.
On my Sprint Touch Pro - I'm regularly being routed to mobile versions. For example, cbs sportsline, and ebay.
Is there a setting that I can change somewhere, perhaps in the registry - that would allow me to access full websites and not mobile versions?
I'm also having this problem. I've upgraded opera from what ever it was stock to 2392. I've also changed the custom user agent under user preferences on opera:config to Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en).
This allowed me to view some pages in desktop mode but not all. The setting MOBILE VIEW in opera settings is unchecked, it doesn't matter if it is or not. I had the Touch before and i had opera mobile 9.5 beta 1 installed and it brought up desktop sites by default. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Isn't there an option for this in Schap's Advanced Config? Try downloading that and using it. I had always installed that first before using the browser so that may be why I never noticed the same issue as you.
I'm pretty sure AC3 useragent option points to PIE, not Opera.
By default Opera should be configured to load the full desktop page. It's possible Sprint has some proxy work going on behind the scenes. Do you get the same mobile versions when you load pages over wifi?
sorry guys,
I forgot to check back in here. But I found the solution on another forum. Check posts 4 and 9 here:

Opera's now working just as I'd hoped.

Try BBC.com, 'cause for me it still redirects to their mobile site. I'm using build 2745 btw. Odd thing is that i briefly tried 9.51b2 and that goes to bbc.com fine (no mobile site).

I think I might have cracked it on Build 2745. As well as the settings in Opera:config mentioned in the links in the posts above, you need to edit the opera.ini file. You should find a couple of lines looking something like this:
UAProf URL=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/diamond-1.0.xml
UAProf URL Enabled=1
Change the second line to:
UAProf URL Enabled=0
Works for me
Only Mobile Sites
I'm also getting only mobile, specifically 2 I am checking are www.yahoo.com and www.cbs.sportsline.com and they are both constantly forwarded to mobile sites.
I've made changes in about:config, I made sure to hit save and also got a pop up confirming it.
I went into opera.ini and I see first line mentioned, but I don't see the 2nd anywhere that says UAProf Enabled = 1 to change to 0, just not seeing it there on mine.
Looks like I'm stuck, but I'd much rather see all normal websites, PIE I can use to get wap sites just fine, I'd like Opera to render real sites.
Can't claim to be an expert I'm afraid, so there's not too much more info I can offer.
There are four key things you should check:
1. Do you have build 2745? I was present in the ini file that seemed to come along with this build after full install - all bets are off for other builds
2. In Opera:Config check that you have set User Agent-Spoof UserAgent ID to 3 - I suspect lots of others will work but 3 worked for me. It is only spoofing the user agent type and I'm not sure how key it is to success. Be sure to save the change though
3. Make sure you set something suitable under User Preferences-Custom User Agent
4. Check the ini file for the lines mentioned or something similar. If it isn't there and you have the same build as I did, that would be worrying! As another thought, you could try adding the line - backup first of course
It's a real pain so I hope you get this sorted out soon
On 2392
Build 2392 came native on the Fuze that I just got. I put 2745 on my 8525/Hermes last week and it worked pretty well except for some issues with the keyboard not recognizing at first.
I've hard reset 6 times now trying to get something else working, which is more than likely a problem with our 2003 exchange, so I'll put on 2745 and see if it works correctly. I've made all the changes, not sure why this build won't work, but I'm not overly excited about the performance anyway.
herg62123 Opera 2745 build upgraded on Fuze

Post 115 has the details for Opera upgrade to a current release, build 2745
herg62123 posted the 2745 build, and it's really awesome. I put it on my fuze with all the directions from post 115 that have it updated for VGA.
I can now go to the normal websites and not always get pushed to the mobile sites, which I did everything to fix, and none of the many great suggestions seemed to work. I think it was well worth doing, if I wanted to look at wap pages I'll use PIE.
I'm still looking for ways to change the link that the Globe opens on the Internet tab on TF3D on my Fuze. It goes to http://device.hom/ which is a dead link of some sorts. And no, changing the home page in settings and every other good suggestion doesn't change what that globe launches. The links under it are just favorites in Opera, all good. Not sure if others are annoyed by this.
I can't seem to find this opera.ini file. Which folder is it located at and how do I edit it? Do I need some other kind of software? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is the last step that I needed to get Opera to work like i wanted it too. Thank you very much. I did everything else, Custom user agent, upgrading opera to 2745, changing spoofing agent, this was the final piece to the puzzle. Now I just need to get flash to work and Opera will be wonderous!!
HAH! Flash working with Opera? Good luck with that one!
Glad it worked for you - it was driving me crazy until I found the solution. I've had the same issue with various different builds and each time the solution has been different!

I am facing two problems with HTC Fuze (ATT)
1. When i disconnect phone, it automatically connects to EDGE. How to stop this?
2. When i search some of the sites on net, it prompts me with a message
"Please use Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or later".
Now as per WinMo 6.1, IE is latest. How to inform the website about browser capabilities?
I'm assuming you are using the new updated fuze rom.
1) It has been an issue that I have yet to find an answer to, but someone should come up with an explanation and execution of a cab for this at one point or time.
2) The site is confusing your phone's IE as something completely different. Your best bet is either have IE present itself in a different mode (Iris and Opera should be able to do it, so IE should have the same capabilities) or use Opera or Iris as a back up browser.
I posted this in the official android bugs issues forum: [forum wont let me link there until 8 posts] but I dont think i'm getting a response anytime soon. So ill try here somewhere active.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S, using 2.2
I am trying to access a website (which I wont name, its private sorry) from my phone. This website had been working on a 3g connection for a considerable time until recently, The only reason for this post is that im 99% sure its a bug otherwise I wouldn't bother, so please do not ignore.
My troubleshooting:
1. The website is up and running, because I can access it on my desktop.
2. The website works on default android browser with WIFI on.
3. The website works in OPERA MINI With both WIFI and 3G.
4. The website does not work in default browser with 3G on (other websites work, bbc, yahoo, google etc). It also doesn't work in other browsers. Dolphin Browser, Firefox Beta, Mirren whilst using 3g etc But it does work on these browsers when accessing via WIFI. However it works in OPERA MINI (3g and wifi). My understanding is OPERA MINI is a proxy browser that delivers Web pages fed through Opera's servers and thats why I believe this works on OPERA but not on androids default browser or other similar browsers.
5. My brother has the same phone and network provider as me and he CAN access the website on 3G on the default browser (remember I used to be able to access it on the default too until recently), this all but eliminates a mobile network provider error, and pretty much points to a phone related issue.
My conclusion is that all these browsers share files/settings based in android OS and something has got corrupt that relates to site in question. DNS cache or Proxy setting or something along these lines.
Additional info this website is on a subdomain
1. vvww.sitename.com WORKS on 3G + WIFI with default browser
2. subdomain1.sitename.com WORKS on 3G + WIFI with default browser
2. subdomain2.sitename.com WORKS on WIFI with default browser but does not work in 3G Using androids default browser.
Im positive a setting somewhere in the phone that relates to subdomain2.sitename.com under 3G and has become corrupt. I need to correct that but I dont know where to look. My gut feeling is its something to do with proxy, as it works on opera with operas proxy.
Edit: tried clearing proxy entry in setting (my provider doesnt use a proxy setting anyway)
Does anyone have any ideas?
anyone with any idea.
i will rephrase the question if it helps:
I cant access a certain website only when using 3g!!! it works on wifi!!!
It does not work in any browser, The only web browser where it works is opera mini.
What is the problem? 3g connection is working for all other websites!
I was having a similar problem yesterday after I upgraded the OS on my phone.
Let me describe what I am using:
HTC Glacier with Cyanogen 7 ROM including Google Apps.
I installed TransProxy 3.08beta and a few other applications, made some config changes, enabled / disabled proxy a few times and later on the browser application that was included with the ROM would not connect to 3G data. It was working fine on WiFi. However Opera worked fine on either.
This is what fixed it for me:
1. Disable proxy in TransProxy
2. Create a shortcut for system proxy settings on home screen:
long press on home screen > custom shortcut > pick your activity > activities > settings > Proxy Settings(.ProxySelector)
3. Open proxy settings using the shortcut
4. Clear settings using 'Clear' button
5. Save
After this the browser started connecting to 3G data.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
