I'm posting this here as opposed to a general forum, because I've found that Opera performs differently on my Touch Pro as compared to my 6700 that was replaced.
On my 6700, when using Opera - I'd regularly get to the full websites I'd see on a desktop, and not mobile versions.
On my Sprint Touch Pro - I'm regularly being routed to mobile versions. For example, cbs sportsline, and ebay.
Is there a setting that I can change somewhere, perhaps in the registry - that would allow me to access full websites and not mobile versions?
I'm also having this problem. I've upgraded opera from what ever it was stock to 2392. I've also changed the custom user agent under user preferences on opera:config to Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en).
This allowed me to view some pages in desktop mode but not all. The setting MOBILE VIEW in opera settings is unchecked, it doesn't matter if it is or not. I had the Touch before and i had opera mobile 9.5 beta 1 installed and it brought up desktop sites by default. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Isn't there an option for this in Schap's Advanced Config? Try downloading that and using it. I had always installed that first before using the browser so that may be why I never noticed the same issue as you.
I'm pretty sure AC3 useragent option points to PIE, not Opera.
By default Opera should be configured to load the full desktop page. It's possible Sprint has some proxy work going on behind the scenes. Do you get the same mobile versions when you load pages over wifi?
sorry guys,
I forgot to check back in here. But I found the solution on another forum. Check posts 4 and 9 here:

Try BBC.com, 'cause for me it still redirects to their mobile site. I'm using build 2745 btw. Odd thing is that i briefly tried 9.51b2 and that goes to bbc.com fine (no mobile site).

I think I might have cracked it on Build 2745. As well as the settings in Opera:config mentioned in the links in the posts above, you need to edit the opera.ini file. You should find a couple of lines looking something like this:
UAProf URL=http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/diamond-1.0.xml
UAProf URL Enabled=1
Change the second line to:
UAProf URL Enabled=0
Works for me
Only Mobile Sites
I'm also getting only mobile, specifically 2 I am checking are www.yahoo.com and www.cbs.sportsline.com and they are both constantly forwarded to mobile sites.
I've made changes in about:config, I made sure to hit save and also got a pop up confirming it.
I went into opera.ini and I see first line mentioned, but I don't see the 2nd anywhere that says UAProf Enabled = 1 to change to 0, just not seeing it there on mine.
Looks like I'm stuck, but I'd much rather see all normal websites, PIE I can use to get wap sites just fine, I'd like Opera to render real sites.
Can't claim to be an expert I'm afraid, so there's not too much more info I can offer.
There are four key things you should check:
1. Do you have build 2745? I was present in the ini file that seemed to come along with this build after full install - all bets are off for other builds
2. In Opera:Config check that you have set User Agent-Spoof UserAgent ID to 3 - I suspect lots of others will work but 3 worked for me. It is only spoofing the user agent type and I'm not sure how key it is to success. Be sure to save the change though
3. Make sure you set something suitable under User Preferences-Custom User Agent
4. Check the ini file for the lines mentioned or something similar. If it isn't there and you have the same build as I did, that would be worrying! As another thought, you could try adding the line - backup first of course
It's a real pain so I hope you get this sorted out soon
On 2392
Build 2392 came native on the Fuze that I just got. I put 2745 on my 8525/Hermes last week and it worked pretty well except for some issues with the keyboard not recognizing at first.
I've hard reset 6 times now trying to get something else working, which is more than likely a problem with our 2003 exchange, so I'll put on 2745 and see if it works correctly. I've made all the changes, not sure why this build won't work, but I'm not overly excited about the performance anyway.
herg62123 Opera 2745 build upgraded on Fuze
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442252&highlight=2745&page=12
Post 115 has the details for Opera upgrade to a current release, build 2745
herg62123 posted the 2745 build, and it's really awesome. I put it on my fuze with all the directions from post 115 that have it updated for VGA.
I can now go to the normal websites and not always get pushed to the mobile sites, which I did everything to fix, and none of the many great suggestions seemed to work. I think it was well worth doing, if I wanted to look at wap pages I'll use PIE.
I'm still looking for ways to change the link that the Globe opens on the Internet tab on TF3D on my Fuze. It goes to http://device.hom/ which is a dead link of some sorts. And no, changing the home page in settings and every other good suggestion doesn't change what that globe launches. The links under it are just favorites in Opera, all good. Not sure if others are annoyed by this.
I can't seem to find this opera.ini file. Which folder is it located at and how do I edit it? Do I need some other kind of software? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is the last step that I needed to get Opera to work like i wanted it too. Thank you very much. I did everything else, Custom user agent, upgrading opera to 2745, changing spoofing agent, this was the final piece to the puzzle. Now I just need to get flash to work and Opera will be wonderous!!
HAH! Flash working with Opera? Good luck with that one!
Glad it worked for you - it was driving me crazy until I found the solution. I've had the same issue with various different builds and each time the solution has been different!

Hello guys,
I have been away for some time now, but I would like to know if any of you found any solution for these 2 problems with opera 9.5 and our devices:
1st: the scroll wheel zoom feature: In my device spinning the wheel just makes me pan horizontally, doesn't matter what i do or configure. I made some searches but found nothing about it.
2nd: linking problem: with opera 8.X i could select the browser to act as "default". Therefore, whenever I opened a link from my mail application (for example), opera handled it. Now, with 9.5, only Internet explorer handles my links.
Can anyone give me a clue?
Thanks!
I don't thjnk there is currently a fix for the zoom issue.
To set up Opera as the default, go to:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/:MSPIE
Change value 1 to OperaL.exe

Just Perfect bro!
Thanks a lot!
To bad we don't have and solution for zooming with the scrool. I have read somewhere here that one of udk's roms did that!
Cheers
I have just downloaded and installed opera mobile 9.5 build 1409.
It's all right but I realized that there are two problems not solved:
1. It is impossible to use a different type systems but the standard one (you have to use stylus).
2. opera mobile 9.5 is not syncronizable with Opera 9.51 for desktop.
Can anyone tell me something about?
Is it possible that the previous release run You Tube videos and this one doesn't?
Thanks & Bye.
Does anyone know the setting to change to access the regular version of sites like yahoo, cnn, etc...
Out of box setup causes Opera to go to mobile versions only of some pages.
Thanks in advance,
Michael
on bottom right, open up menu, then go to "settings">"display" and uncheck "mobile view"
It already is unchecked, I think it may be a registry / hidden proxy issue. I am using media net for my connection.
i have spent countless hours trying to figure this out and found a solution. i also wanted iphone versions of websites (read espn).
in operas preferance editor (about:config in the address bar) you scroll down to user prefs, then uunder that tab go to custom user agent and plug in " Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en)" no quotes, then under the user agent i turned spoof agent to 2.
i akso changed the IE user agent to "Mobile Safari 1.0" in advance config
im not sure if its the combination or just one thing but i can now access full pages that i couldnt before aand i can use iphone web apps, so im happy
Correct, the trick is to change the user agent that the browser identifies itself as. You can go into opera:config and do that. Feel free to research the more common user agent strings and experiment to find the one that works for you. I personally setup a user string in my device for IE6. Hope this helps.

I tried this w/o editing the IE user agent, and it didn't work on my Fuze. The homepage that I had set to MSN, is now showing the mobile version instead of the web version, which worked previously. Do you know what the default setting was? I'd like to revert it back, but when hitting the 'default' button, it only clears the box. [I think it was 'Opera 9.5' but I rather be 100% sure].
I tried what someone else had told me now my cingular video doesn't work when I just went in. I tried this one and not only don't have cingular video but now Internet explorer isn't working. You would think that someone would know what to do with fixing the whole mobile thing. I don't want to use the mobile versions. I use yahoo mail and the mobile version sucks. It won't let you do anything but put in text.
Would like to know how to take it back to the way it was as well. any help would be great.
original settings
Custom user agent under was Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
by the way I tried this as well and now only get mobile sites. I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but I was better off before.
I hate to keep adding stuff one post at a time, but I just wanted to let you's know. I changed the part in ( ) back to the windows setting and left mozilla and spoof agent at 2 and it is working, and going to full sites. Hope this helps.
So switching it to what gave you the regular sites? When I change these things, do I need to restart my phone for them to go into effect? Definately need to fix this. I still can't get to cingular video. What the heck. I changed it to the original one and still no cingular video. I am having too many issues with this. It's just ticking me off.
ok opera 9.5 is really pissing me off and i absolutely hate the fact that every time i load a new link i have to double click to zoom back in and see waht im looking for. I also hate the fact that in order to view what tabs i have open i have to click on that little box at the bottm and play a gusesing game as to what the tabs opened are.
opera 8.65 also had an option to click in the settings to recognize your device as a handheld or as a desktop computer which solved the ever so rampant problem people are complaining about with 9.5 of the browser not recognizing full html sites and defaulting to mobile versions. you shouldnt have to edit the god damn registry and screw with at many settings JUST in order to visit the full version of a webpage! opera prides themselves at giving you the true full internet experience but little do they tell you that its up to you to screw with your phone and figure out how!
anyways, i was just wondering if anyone like me had gotten fed up with this latest installment of opera and reverted back to the previous version that ACTUALLY had all the good bells and whistles that worked properly?

While I agree with your points, its really the best option at the moment outside of Skyfire. To be honest Skyfire to Touchscreen phones is not what it was for Smartphones, its just not that refined/accurate/reliable/fast yet. Hopefully when full VGA comes out to Skyfire we can really dump Opera for good (kidding).
Opera also needs to understand that people want flexibility with the scroll wheel on the bottom of the phone. Why zoom when I could scroll down the page and double tap zoom if necessary. Why not also adjust the sensitivity of the screen to not always zooom out everytime I'm

I Am Running Opera 8.65 On Fuze
I installed 8.65 on my Fuze storage card using the normal CAB from their website. I had a licensed version on my Tilt and transferred the license. I do miss the scroll-wheel-to-zoom feature but not much else as I have been using 8.65 for a while now and am quite comfortable with it. Turns out the original Opera is still in main memory (\Windows\OperaL.exe) so I can run either. Plus I have Skyfire installed as well. Frankly, none of them work well for every site and I move between them and even PIE depending on what I am doing.
Peter
try typing "opera:config" without the quotes obviously into the address bar, with NO http:// in front... many... many settings where you can change around what you want. Opera 9.5 is by far the BEST web browser out there where now as even the iPhone Safari can not perform the same actions.
what about the mobile view in opera 9.5? i thought it did a good job..felt like a better version of 8.65.
"mobile view" on the newest opera (9.5) jsut makes it so that everything ont he page fits in a single column, this has NOTHING to do with mobile loaded sites versus the full html sites.
ive messed around with the opera:config settings and none of them result in making my yahoo homepage come up with the real one that will allow me to do waht i need to do with yahoo.
i think i will take the suggestion of installinf the old version on my storage card so that i have the best of both worlds. god damnit i really wish skyfire would get their act together and give us waht we want instead of just making something barely usable so they can say they have "vga support".... bastards.

skyfox99. Thank you for the good tip to configure Opera. However do you know where there is list of explainations and recommendations for the various settings? It would be great to hear what setting others use and why/how it improves Opera.
Thanks.
Joe
I went back too
I hate the default browser too and reverted to 8.65. If you search here, there is link showing how to make any browser default in the Browser Tab of TF3D.
double tap should centre the zoom-in on the point of tap, not a few inches away. For example, if i am looking at an xda thread on my phone and want to go to the next page, I am looking at the "Page 1 of 8 < 2 3 4 5 > Last". I would double tap on this, my phone will ALWAYS zoom in 1.5 screens to the left, so I have to do 2 scrolls to the right
My other serious issue with this browser is the SIP always comes up on certain websites, even though I am not touching any text boxes, in fact usually happens while page is still loading. I have disables auto SIP popup in advanced config, its just a glitch in opera 9.5
Evening all.
I've tried downloading Opera, Dolphin and Firefox. When trying to go to sites such as facebook as well as many others, they keep automatically diverting me to the mobile version of the site.
Do any of the browsers have a fix or add-on to stop this happening? It's so annoying!
In at least Dolphin Mini(What I run on my Captivate) you can go into the options(toolbox) and switch the orientation from mobile to desktop versions.

This. I've tried the same on Opera Mini/Mobile but it doesn't stop the mobile view
I know in the default browser you just go to options and change the browser string.
I haven't seen any mobile sites since I changed that setting.
This is driving me nuts! Almost every site I go to gives me the mobile version.
Going from memory, so this might not be 100% accurate, but should be close.
In Opera, type opera:config in the address bar. Go to User Prefs, and scroll down to Customer User Agent. Input any desktop UA string, save, and restart Opera.
Edit - here's a list of UA strings to pick from:
http://www.useragentstring.com/pages/useragentstring.php
Unfortunately, I don't think Opera let's you paste into that field, so you'll have to retype the whole thing which is kind of a pain.
Make sure you are not using remembered links or bookmarked links from when you did not have ( use full site) on. It will keep taking you back to the mobile version.
Easiest way:
open the stock browser
open the menu on the top right corner
hit "settings"
hit "advanced"
hit "User agent string"
then just select desktop mode
wow you guys don't read.
Dolphin and Firefox have not been updated to really support honeycomb so they still load the mobile sites, there are tricks around it, but they don't work great.
Opera Mobile is made for tablets but is currently glitched where even if you have the mobile setting as off, it still loads the mobile versions of pages.
you could try doing the opera:config and see if that fixes it, i know i'm going to try.
*edit* just tried editing the opera config. doesn't work. still loads the mobile site. I've sent them 10 e-mails about it and there are literally hundreds of comments pointing that out but apparently opera doesn't care and they refuse to even acknowledge the problem.

It works, I use it pretty frequently when the stock browser is being a pain. Clear your cache, history, etc and make sure you're not clicking a link/bookmark that is pointed at the mobile version of a site. Also make sure you input the UA string correctly, word for word.
In firefox, get the addon called Phony and then change the new preference that it adds to your settings to "firefox desktop" and you're set While you're at it, get the adblock extension as well.

I think I used a Chrome OSX string. The browser also has to be restarted for it to take effect. You'll either need to shut down the program from Android's app management in settings, or just reboot your TF. And make sure you clear all your caches.
Edit - or if you really want to be sure, uninstall and reinstall Opera. Then edit the UA string before you browse to a single website, restart browser, enjoy.
wait, so is this: "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/13.0.766.0 Safari/534.36" the user string? cause i didn't type all that in. i just typed in chrome.
Ya, you need to type in the entire thing. You can find a shorter one if you want, just as long as it's identified as a desktop OS/browser.

just did, did exactly as you said, i uninstalled the app, reinstalled, then went to opera:config as soon as it opened, typed that whole thing in, and still, mobile sites.
alright apparently it didn't save, going back in shows the user agent id as 1 again. WTF.
You hit save after inputting the string, right? And restarted the browser after you hit save? A full restart, not just back out and go back in.
Oh, there are two different sections with UA stuff. You don't want the one that gives number options, that one never worked for me. I'll look up the exact setting name, but I think it's under User Preferences and then Custom User Agent.
alright i'll try there
Since upgrading to ICS several days ago, two websites that I frequently visit on my tab are malfunctioning - seems to be javascript-related and somewhat browser independent. The sites are pcworld.com and nbcnews.com. In general, on pcworld.com, links don't work. Nothing happens when I tap them (they do highlight in light blue - that's all). On nbcnews.com, which forces the mobile site using some browsers, the links to stories and the down arrow to "show more stories" don't work. Both of these situations (pcworld and nbcnews) exist for the stock browser, Dolphin, and Chrome (also installed and tried Maxthon and Skyfire just to check - same issue there), but both sites work fine in Firefox and Opera. However, if I disable javascript in Dolphin, pcworld.com works fine, and I can link to stories on nbcnews. The "show more stories" in nbcnews.com still doesn't work but the screen behaves a bit differently when I tap it. Chrome, by the way, pretty much goes non-functional if I disable javascript in it - none of the browser control buttons such as bookmarks, recent sites, etc. work at all.
Pcworld was definitely working before going to ICS. I think nbcnews had gotten a little squirrelly. My conclusion that it's a javascript issue is based on the fact that disabling javascript restores link function to pcworld and at least to the nbcnews.com stories. Any thoughts?

I am currentlyon stock ICS DDLP5. it works fine with the stock browser. Also works with dolphin, firefox chrome and opera. No issues.
So now some people are actually getting the update from Verizon, and these websites seem to be working fine for them. I upgraded per Electron73's post. What might be different about my tab now than those who are getting upgraded by Verizon that would cause this issue?
Is it possible that the problem is that Electron73's instructions by which I upgraded to ICS result in a rooted device? I'm totally ignorant of this stuff and have no idea what possible problems could arise from being rooted. If that could be the problem, how can I unroot? I have no need to be rooted.
rooting only opening an acces to the device with administrator account... it only put 2 files to your device... one is a program to govern the root... superuser or supersu and another one is system/xbin/su binary files. that's it... to fully unroot you just need to delete this 2 files from your device.

I've read that people who got their tab updated by Verizon / Samsung (many by sending them in) have i815.07 V.LP10 / I815LP10 (note the .07) vs. the .04 that I have installed. Possible issue?

That's what I'm thinking. I wish electron could get an updated version. My wife is tired of seeing some elements on some of her favorite websites just not show up (images, links, etc). No way I'm unrooting until Verizon/Samsung get their OTA mess sorted out though.
As I mentioned, the websites that aren't working for me are failing in the stock browser, dolphin, chrome, and every other browser I've tried except Firefox, Opera, and now Puffin. Tonight I stumbled upon how to view the javascript console in the stock browser. When I view the javascript console after attempting to follow a link to an article on pcworld.com, I see a long ULR (with static.ak.facebook.com in the middle), followed by the console message "Given URL is now allowed in the Application configuration.: One or more of the given URLs is not allowed by the App's settings. It must match the Website URL or Canvas URL, or the domain must be a subdomain of one of the App's domains." there is a different message about Viewport argument value "device-width;" when I try to navigate the mobile nbcnews.com website. Pcworld works fine if I disable javascript; on the nbcnews mobile site, I can link to articles with javascript disabled but I still can't "Show more stories." Wierdly, about every 1000 tries or so (literally), a link or "Show more stories" will randomly work with javascript enabled, but only for one try.
Any ideas??
Yet another issue - hitting the back button in the stock browser, Dolphin, etc., usually doesn't take me to the previous visited webpage; it just reloads the current page (with some exceptions). If not for Opera and Firefox, my tab would basically be useless for web browsing. (Interestingly, Chrome does not have this issue even though it shares the stock browser and Dolphin's issue of not being able to follow links on nbcnews.com, pcworld.com, etc.) I like the device but am starting to wonder if I should give it up... Any idea if reverting to Honeycomb (!) would restore web browsing? HC was crap but at least I could use the browser.
Based on a little back and forth with Dolphin support and some deductive reasoning, it seems clear to me that any webkit-based browser is going to give me the same issues. I read this morning that Opera is getting ready to abandon its in-house web engine in favor of webkit. That will leave me with just Firefox and Puffin (which some say is insecure and in any case lacks a lot of basic features), neither of which I really like using.
So something seems inherently broken in webkit in the i815.04 V.LP10 version of ICS I have installed. I suppose many don't use their tablets extensively for web browsing so maybe this isn't an issue for most users, but I do browse a lot with it and now feel like my tab is "broken" (sort of the way I felt with Honeycomb that prompted me not to wait for Verizon to fix its failed update). I went so far as to buy a Nexus 7 yesterday morning, but I really didn't like the display and returned it in the afternoon.
I think in Electron73's post there was a link to a download that could be applied to return the tab to Honeycomb. Is that true, and if so has anyone tried reverting and then getting ICS through the OTA update? (It seems that people who have v.07 instead of .04 don't have the browsing problems I've been posting about.) If I reverted to Honeycomb (assuming that's possible) and couldn't get the update OTA, would Verizon / Samsung detect that it had been modified if I tried to get the update by sending it in as so many have had to do? Any other thoughts on possible fixes? Obviously I am pretty ignorant...

It seems as if my browsing issues may not be similar to what you're experiencing. What I was seeing on my wife's was images not showing up on certain shopping websites (no matter what browser she used) , and sponsored links not working in Google searches. I discovered the problem: the hosts file is NOT stock, and is set to block a lot of sites, or elements within them. I removed every entry in the file except for 127.0.0.1 localhost, and EVERY problem she was having has disappeared!

It was a bit of a PITA at first since none of my edits would stick. Finally found an app called Hosts Editor Pro in the Store. Soon as you open it up, it seems to replace the current file with a very basic one. Once I rebooted after that, I checked the contents of the file, and only the one entry was there.

So do you happen to know if she can follow links on the sites I mentioned (nbcnews.com, pcworld.com) without any problem? And go back to the previous page by hitting the back button? I think one person replied to my original question that they could not, but I'm still trying to figure out if it's some anomaly or a universal result of updating to 4.0.4 in this manner.

Tried both sites, and every action you described, and both sites work perfectly, pop-up ads and all.
When you flashed electrons build, did you use the wipe version, or not?

I tried to no-wipe first, but it hung for about a half hour, so I went back and did the wipe version.
I've given up on it. I'm giving the tab to my daughter, who won't care about a few browsing incoveniences. I went to Verizon today and bought a new one. I was nervous because I planned to return it if it wouldn't get ICS OTA and they said there would be a $70 restocking fee. But when they stuck the SIM card in and started setup, I could see that it already had ICS on it (the bright blue circle was spinning). The setup didn't look fresh (didn't start with the setup wizard or whatever it's called -- booted directly into the default homepage), even though the tab was sold as new and certainly appears to be. Also, Baseband is i815.04, not .07. My uneducated guess is that the've taken new ones in the warehouse that had Honeycomb and flashed ICS, then shipped them to the stores, so they won't have to deal with all the the returns.
