Has anything ever been developed for the short lived mpx300? I had one, but the memory issue was such a pain I decided to get rid of it. I would find one again if someone had wm 6.1 for it...

This might be a bit long winded, but I'll get there eventually. I have had all the MPx series phones, I had the MPx200 and hated it. The MPx220 was buggy until I just recently put the latest firmware on it, but really there are much better clamshell style smartphones out there. Now I'm playing around with the MPx (or MPx 300) and running headlong into the RAM limitations.
I've tried many many memory freeing programs, and systematically went through startup folders and file folders deleting stuff, locking the phone up, resetting, loading from backup, or reflashing and reloading from backup. Basically I've got as much out of it as I can. And, to be honest with respect to RAM, I am ok within the confines of the on board memory.
Then I see an ebay ad for a MPx200 with WM05:
http://cgi.ebay.com/MPX200-UNLOCKED...ryZ64355QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
And apparently someone has figured out how to use the SD card for a portion of the OS's RAM or ROM files in addition to getting WM 05 to run on the MPx200. So, I got to thinking, well why not do that with the -300 as well. I contacted that seller and a couple others on ebay, with no responses. So, I went searching other forums and was eventually led here.
If you made it this far, congrats. Now for the questions:
1) Do any of you know the background to that WM 05 upgrade to the MPx200? Was it someone here who figured it out? I searched but turned up nothing.
2) I'm a newbie when it comes to coding cell phone stuff, no idea on apps or whatever... I learned programming with Fortran77 for god's sake... lol. Anyway, I see all the apps and ROMS for the HTC phones and was wondering if the tools would work for the Moto phone as well, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Basically I'm toying with the idea of cooking up a WM05 or 06 for my MPx300. Yes, I understand I might brick the thing. I've come to terms with that.
Thanks all. I appreciate any input you all might have.
"and running headlong into the RAM limitations."
sorry cant help you but if you manage
you may be the first person in history who
fixed ram limitations by getting a newer microsoft operating system
LOL. I hear that. (but isn't crossbow actually better on RAM/ROM allocation than 05 was?)
But did you look at the link? On edit: that auction no longer explains that the phone will shut down if you remove the card while it is on because the new OS requires more memory and it was taken from the card. From the description it looks like the newer OS is using the SD card for a portion of its RAM... I realize that isn't a built in kind of thing, but was fishing here hoping someone knew enough to help me do this, or point me in the direction of someone who could... if not actually finding the person who figured it out.
Anyway, I realize this is primarily a HTC kind of site, I've been looking around on PPC addicts for a while, and it seems to me that the level of coding modification and experiance here is much greater than there, hence my asking over here.
Anyway, appreciate any or all help. Heck, even just thoughts about this at this point would be useful.
Here we go...

Post number 14.
Hey guys,
Sorry if this was posted somewhere before, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out what needs to be done if anything to install the Windows Mobile 6 onto my Motorola Q.
I understand that the original Q may not support WM6 out of the box, and I'm kind of new to hacked/burned ROMs to replace the standard stuff on these phones, however I've managed to pick up 2 different Pre-release versions of WM6, and I attempt to run them, but I get a bad contry code error or that the ROM isn't compatible.
Is there anything I can do as far as using a 'modified' ROM to make this work? I'd like to get WM6 onto this unit if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Tech
Do a google search. Really, no one can explain the whole thing in such a way you can fully understand.
Like you forgot to mention what versions of WM6 you got. Where they smartphone or WMPC? Which gadget where they made for? What is the exact error?
Also, I take it that you are in fact new, since this is a generally HTC website.
You could be better served at a Motorola Q forum.
Hey all,
My wizard is about 1 year old, and I'm getting the need for an upgrade.
I was thinking about trying a WM6 ROM, but can't decide if I should.
My question really are:
1. Is it worth it? Will it feel any different than WM5, other than just new look?
2. What are the chances of bricking the device during the upgrade?
Thanks a lot..

Let me just say that in January I was ready to throw my Wizard (8125) in the trash. I hated the phone as it was the worst purchase I ever made. It was unreliable, dropped calls, and reset for no reason all the time. It became for me just a PDA, and even then one I barely used since it would reset everytime I started to really need it (or so it seemed). My Nokia 6620 was far more reliable and useful than my 8125 ever was (but due to contracts and prices, getting a new replacement wasn't really an option for me, but I did figure out how to SIM unlock my Nokia 6620 so I was looking at going back to it). Since I had decided to go back to the 6620, I remembered hearing about people flashing custom roms on their Wizard devices, and decided to come back to XDA-Dev (I had found it last September but the term "brick" scared me off), and give it a shot. What was the worst that could happen? Brick it? I was ready to trash it anyway so who cared.
I read everything and decided to give the Faria AKU3.3 a try (WM6 was brand new out and I was intemidated by things I was reading). After I successfully CID Unlocked and then flashed the Tmobile 2.26 rom (which I found hilarious on a Cingular device) I then did AKU 3.3. All I can say is, the rest is history. My eyes were opened. Suddenly this phone became what it was supposed to have been when I bought it. It was fast and reliable. All of my issues (resets, hangs, and dropped calls) were all gone!
So at a minimum, CID Unlock (if you ahve a G3) and put a custom WM5 rom on. You will NOT be disappointed...
But then the ROM flashing bug took over and I'm firmly into WM6 now. I don't think I can ever think about going back to WM5. I just like the feel and ease of things in WM6 (but at first some things I did not like so it takes time to get used to some of the changes).
So good luck in what you decide. Most claim after upgrading to mine (or many other of the custom roms here) that their phone has new life and it stalls the need to switch to buying a new device... Yeah, I'll probably move to an 8525 (Hermes) sometime, but right now my little Wizard is my best buddy and as important to me as my work computer. I use it for everything now...

Hmmm... this is a good piece of history. Can it go into the ROM flashers anonymous thread? Please...

I'm deciding whether or not to trade in my Fuze for a Bold.
The Fuze is nice, but I don't know if I can stand Windows Mobile anymore.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
well gotta give it to a Bold that it's design is timeless
and last for a long time and can handle some absuse
Can't stand Windows Mobile? Are you using a stock AT&T ROM? If so, that's your problem.
Thats funny I had the Bold 2 days before release and couldn't wait for the Fuze to be released so I could trade it in for a Fuze. Honestly the new crackberry is nice and all don't get me wrong but the Fuze and WM is so much more flexable, not the stock ROM mind you. First thing I did was Hard-SPL and get a cooked ROM. If your running around with AT&T's stock ROM your doing it wrong, completely wrong.
Im due for an upgrade and im on the fence between the bold and the fuze , i currently have a tilt and curve

I agree with you, but I think there's a good point to be made here: it shouldn't be that way. You shouldn't *need* to hack your device for it to be usable.
like i tell all the customers in my store.
if you email alot, get blackberry.
if you do everything get htc.

I have the Fuze now and used to have the bold when it came out for testing and as far as usable they both are usable from the start. The difference between the two is that with Windows Mobile you can enhance the phone and taylor it to your liking by changing the rom, adding cabs, modifying the OS etc...but with the bold and blackberry in general there is only so much you can do. I do however think that it is the best blackberry yet (have not used the Storm yet) and if you seek flexibility WM is your best bet.
Thanks everyone.
I actually used RomeOS for a while, but i reverted back to the stock ATT rom just in case I decide to get the bold. I have several weeks before my month is up, maybe i'll wait and see. My only gripe is that the phone menu is a bit sluggish. Is this b/c of TF3D or WinMobile itself?

+1
so true
I wondered the same thing. I ended up getting and keeping both though. I send and receive a lot of emails daily but I also do the other stuff. They complement each other nicely but what drove me to testing and eventually owning a Blackberry was that I became obsessive with tweaking, customizing, and installing things on my Touch Pro. I would spend HOURS each day on here searching and installing until I made the phone unstable. Hard reset and was back at it again. So the Blackberry was my way of saving my from myself, especially since it is on a platform that I'm not very familiar with. But both are great phones. The best way to decide would probably be to try them both out if at all possible.
i think Dieter Bohn from WMexperts states it best. He temporarily swapped his Fuze for a bold from the guys at crackberry.com and he says something along the lines that while using the bold he finds he constantly has to adapt himself to the BB os which is opposite to WM experience where you adapt it to your needs.
and to enrique999, i was under the exact same circumstances, always late to dinners or parties because i had to update an app, or customize it just to how i wanted the device after a hard reset or rom upgrade.. i was gonna get the bold but it took to long to come out so i got an e71. Now i use my WM device during the week, and e71 during the weekend
hi all. usually i just read the forums or use the search feature, but im stumped on this one.
I have a verizon omnia i910 flashed with adrynaline's m2d cf03 rom.
anyway, i am attempting to load up some gameboy roms (namely pokemon, the best time killer ive ever had, looking to reminisce a bit) but also some gba roms would be nice too...
I have tried pocketGBA and it wont even attempt to install, i've also tried morphgear but i keep getting a 5 minute timer lockout because its the trial. from what i've read its supposidly free and open source now, but i dont know whats up with that.
Does anybody have a free solution? dont be afraid to get technical.. i was on sprint's ATS for 2 years so im pretty sure i could handle anything you guys throw at me.
Moved as not software release.
