I've got a Samsung i600 WM5 Smartphone and I'm looking for a good (free if possible) registry cleaner for this phone. I've also got some unwanted icons such as Airscanner Antivirus and Airscanner Scheduler in my Start screen as I did uninstall Airscanner a while back, but seemed to of left behind some debris or junk.

Try SK Tools, I don't have the cab or link, so you"ll have to search for it. It will clean reg plus alot more.

ah ha amen!
I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

Thanks, just joined today and i am now very happy with the fact this hack worked for me
Joined the forum chasing icons and now i think i wont be able to ever leave
Thanks again.....
No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.
I would like to know if there is a program to remove programs from the windows portion of my treo 750. I would like to get rid of pocket power point as well as some other memory hogs. Got any ideas??? Thanks

You can not remove programs that are in ROM, like the Windows Office Mobile programs.
insidr is correct about the ROM stuff (that needs to be "cooked" to modify). How about THIS for everything else???
After searching around for a while I found that there "might" be a limitation of 50 entries in the Remove Programs list. Is this true? The solutions suggested is to remove some the installed programs using ActiveSync, but I use Vista and WMDC, as far as I can tell, there is no Remove Programs options using this interface. Am I right?
Searching a little bit more I found this Remove Programs Tool - http://www.51spsoft.com/DownInfo/info24847.html It appears to do the trick (List the Installed Programs and Uninstall) but it does not display correctly in the Blackjack II (i617).
Are there any tricks/hacks to remove the 50 programs limitation or another tool that can replace the Remove Programs function, but with an interface that works well with the BJII?
Thanks

Thanks... I'm playing with the Standard Trail version now. I'll consider shelling out the $12 if it works as advertized.
Btw, WMDC does have a Add/Remove Programs Option - One has to click More... in the lower right corner of the Program and Services panel to bring up that option. Why was this option not located on the main page of Program and Services?... is a mistery to me.
Hi,
yesterday evening I've found a new problem: when I close any apps using the "X" button in the right top, the Diamond freeze and I must reset it, instead if I can close the apps using the Exit voice from the internal menu, the app close correctly.
I've got the same problem if I try to open the application management menu that appears only in the home (with the list of open apps and the 3 icons). I click on the "little arrow" in the right top and the Diamond freeze.
If I go to Start -> Settings -> System and then i click "Managed Programs" the Diamond reset.
I think is a problem of Windows Mobile.
Anyone had the same problem?
Thanx
strange. no idea why but..
hard reset maybe?

It seems the applications management of WM can't run property.
PS. No freeze or reset if the "OK" button replace the "X".
list the applications you installed on your phone and the changes you made.. registrywise and else.. and we can follow them and maybe realize what caused the problem. If we can't, again, i suggest you hardreset

The problem has begun after I moved roughly two folder from \programmi to \memorizzazione interna\programmi. I decided to move these in order to gain a little bit of space on main mamory
The programs are:
Sushi's Diamond TF3D Config
Sushi's Diamond Profile Switcher
After the first symptoms I quickly relocate the folders in the original path.
Obviously I've got too many applications installed, but i've never had problem like this before. I extract the list with SK-Tools, ordered by date:

mmm...i'd like to avoid it...do you know what are the files responsible to manage the application on Windows Mobile? Something like Explorer.exe on XP...
Any applications run well but i can't close them it if there's only "X" button...
you mean the main file for the desktop of windows mobile?
you may try reinstalling the task manager.

Is it possible?
I think the problem is around the file gwes.exe
I've just found this on google:
"The Graphics, Windowing and Events Subsystem (GWES) is responsible for all graphical output and all interactions with the user. The drivers that reside in the GWES address space include display drivers, printer drivers, keyboard drivers, mouse drivers, and touch screen drivers."
Do you know what are the dependencies of this file and the interactions with any dll ???
Thanx
No straight idea..but..

Hi - question from a WM newb.
[phone: HTC Fuze. Da_G 1.7 ROM]
What is the best way to remove programs?
I am aware there is a "remove program" function in the settings. Unfortunately, this seems to either:
a) be unable to remove certain programs
b) leave behind remnants of programs after it "uninstalled" it.
For example - I saw there was a google maps update out today which gives you street view. So I went to m.google.com/maps and installed it from there.
It seems to not have updated google maps at all which is what I was led to believe it would do but installed a whole new google maps (shows up as a "e" icon in my programs labeled "java". really annoying - what is that all about?).
I wanted to remove the old google maps and did so via the "remove programs" utility. It left behind the google maps icon which I just deleted from the windows/start menu/programs. I am left wondering though if I removed everything I could or if it left behind any mess that will slow and clutter my phone in the future?
I have searched and people seem to recommend SKtools to do this job. I was led to believe that it will do a better job but I am afraid it might mess with my registry - and registry tweaks seem to be the norm here (I've already done about a million).
Will SKtools leave my registry alone? Does it only remove registry enhancements that have to do with the program in question? Will altering even that mess with how other programs function? etc etc etc.
What is the best way to remove programs? (AND to remove programs that dont appear on the list like the "E" google maps thing)
thx much
the e icon is for the java emulator, the old version was a JAva one, this one is for Windows Mobile
that icon was created by Esmertic (the name of the java cemulator) for shortcut to Google Maps, else you'll have to go fireup the Emualtor first, then selct Google Maps from it
There are many tricks in SKTools, and yess it corrupts ur reg too, you just have to know what you doing..try PocketMechanic a shot too
hope this helps ya
Cheers
so is it pointing towards an online version of google maps or something, hence the reason why i cant find it to delete it in the first place?
thx
the one from "m.maps..." is a java version i guess, there is anew version in cab format here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=457376
awesome - thats what i was lookin for!
so if i delete that "e" icon will it be ok?

Is it not clear to you that you have two totally different versions installed? You have a native WM app installed and the Java applet version?
Is that what this whole question revolves around??
no thats pretty clear now hehe:
-original question remains: what is the best method of removing programs (stock "remove apps" vs using a program like sktools), i guess wondering if there is sort of a general consensus when it comes to this. (like on a mac I always use appzapper vs just throwing the app in the trash)
-I installed the native wm version and I want to get rid of the java applet version but I am not finding how to remove that version since it doesnt show up on the "remove apps".
thx
Apart from the problem of the "Google thing icon", I was very interested about input on "how to remove programs properly"...
I too am annoyed with the builtin "remove program" function not being able to uninstall anything completely.
Any hint (beside deleting everything manually in registry and file system) ?
Thanks for your help.
