You can not remove programs that are in ROM, like the Windows Office Mobile programs.
insidr is correct about the ROM stuff (that needs to be "cooked" to modify). How about THIS for everything else???

Does anyone know if there is an application (EXE file) within WM6 or WM5 that executes the "programs" and "settings" list, without tapping the Start button?
Also, on a soft reset, how can you make a single application load everytime?
Thanks...

Anyone? I am sure there is a simple solution that I am overlooking. With a little help here I can fix a couple of problems with an iPhone emulator that can be incorporated into any WM6 Rom. I am currently running this now, but these fixes would make it perfect, and would almost do away with the Windows Mobile today screen. I am pretty amazed with this so far, The new iPhone today screen perfectly mathes what you would see on the apple website, and I am not noticing any signifigant lag time between apps that are loaded this way.
To make an application load on a soft reset, just place it in the windows/start up folder or place a link to it in that folder.

Faria, memory cannot serve you right. You are already at 97% capacity and the only way to get the information you require is to do a soft reset at which point you will get down to 75%. Or in the alternation upgrade.....
Is this the emulator you are talking about?

Did you find out how to start the functioning of program from icon.
I cannot find the explorer.exe in the rom

Nothing as of yet. Without recompiling the software, each button on the iPhone today screen requires an .exe file, executable, to launch that particular service or program. To make things easy, I wanted to know how to create an exectuable file that will launch contacts, programs folder, and settings folder, with these, the normal WM6 today screen would not be needed anymore.

Wow, those screens look cool already
Any idea when a first beta will be ready (if you are gonna release it)?

I have figured out how to link to Outlook Contacts, I am just having troubles getting settings and programs to pull up. Wven with creating shortcuts to them
well if you want settings like for example the task manager then a call to this would bring it up:
ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2
Didn't want to leave you hanging so I ran a quick search here to see if it has a list and here's something that should steer you in a direction...that is if this is what you wanted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289005
that doesnt help, you know how to add a shortcut to start start menu
Here's a similar app:
http://rychlicki.net/en/2007/04/01/174/
http://rychlicki.net/inne/res_ppc-custom.icons.zip
Clock doesnt work there though
i have a few fave programs that ran fine prior to installing wm6. now these apps seem to want to work, but end up hanging rather than opening and running. i am not a software wiz...so is this an issue with the programs not being able to run a super new os (x- plore 1.1), or is it with wm6 itself? the main one i'd like to get running is a meditation program called pocket natura. when i run it, the page goes white as if the program main screen wants to load...then it stays white. i need to close it out (if it lets me) or soft-reset. i would love to know if this is the wm6 or if it is just these certain apps not being able to run on wm6.
any info and/or tips would be most appreciated.
I have not run into any trouble with any apps on wm6. I am running faria's wm6 rom. But, just because i have not had any trouble does not mean that it is the same for all.
well i have uninstalled 1.1, and installed faria's...still i could not get those few apps to run. so next i installed the wm5 superrom, and without incident, those apps ran. so i am assuming that either the wm6 roms have an unknown glitch regarding third party programs, or i managed to find the few programs that are just too damned stubborn to run in wm6!!
thoughts on this?
i really liked the 2 wm6 roms i tried out, but i REALLY like the couple of third party apps that don't seem to want to run in wm6. is there any way of getting around this, or am i doomed to run wm5 or give up my fave apps to run wm6???
as always, thank you for your responses and insight/help.
I think every software that i DL have a meny option "Exit" but microsofts own software thats included in the phone don't have this. I have to use task manager to quit this software. or Im i missing someting?
There's lots of software to do this eg Xbutton etc
yes maybe but why do they do it?

Because they're Microsoft. That should be enough explanation. Actually, their explanation is that they consider it is more memory efficient to leave programs in memory and let windows allocate the memory itself.
^ what he said. Microsoft wants so much to demonstrate that these phones are perfectly capable of multitasking that someone on the higher end decided that all programs shall remain open.
Causes all types of problems if this is done for a prolonged period - Note to M$: you can't just port winDOS code to mobile and hope it works.
think old wm devices were slower for some of those mem loading tasks
and in general people were using the same applications again and again
in which case it was easier to minimize them
an application you start ONLY! use as much mem as it was written to use
so if it use 2MB it dont run any faster if you have a pda with 2GB
and if WM starts to get low on mem it itself will unallocate memory from programs which havent been access'd for awhile so the program which require the mem can have it
this is why you dont normaly get an outof mem error with alot of applications running

This has been proven to be patently false, I believe. WM2002 had out of memory errors. WM2003 won't allow anymore programs to run, and WM5 just hangs. Apparently M$ has a very, um, questionable definition about which program "hasn't been in use for awhile".
me too experienced out of mem errors repeatedly, usually it's enough to exit internet explorer which i use from time to time (it starts faster then opera and minimo)
Read this: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/10/05/The-Emperor-Has-No-Close.aspx
the only microsoft application i've seen that actually closed and that had 'exit' option was comm manager i used for about a year. yesterday i changed rom (from 1.6.2.4 to T-Mobile 2.26 ROM) and i see that this mistake is corrected - the new comm manager present in this rom also has exit button, but as well as 'x' button it only minimises it. way to go M$! ;]
ah ha amen!
I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

that did the trick for me - thanks
Thanks, just joined today and i am now very happy with the fact this hack worked for me
Joined the forum chasing icons and now i think i wont be able to ever leave
Thanks again.....
No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.
can anybody help me?
Flashed my Uni with Tomals Rom: TML_V12_WM65_23089_64MB
but still running out of memory. After hard reset only 10 MB Programmemory
After installing Sktools an phone alarm only 4 MB left. Programs won't run anymore. Tried to install these Programs into ExtRom -. doesn't work.
Still installs into main memory.... no matter what i tried...
help me anybody out there?

try this
Try the cab and reboot.
Now it works
Thanks a lot,
now it works, but still i'm running out of memory, very fast. Is there no such thing like a memory manager, that is running in the Backgroud? it seems like the programs won't close, and stick in the background....
SotB
with wm5 I used wisbar advance to realy close programs. http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products/pocketpc/WisBarAdvance/
Later in WM6 and 6.1 there was a setting to say close program when hitting the X or OK button.
Now in WM6.5 Tomal 12.1. it is preset to close the programs with X.

If you have a 64Mb device running out of memory is inevitable with WM6.5, you will be limited to what you can run and memory-hungry programs will create havoc.
