Hi there!
I got a question... corresponding to this situation:
My Polaris with bepes premium rom 0.67 is running fine.(mostly )
Well, i set u a VPN connection to my home network, where a debian linux system is located with a gnump3d server. A Streaming MP3-Server.
It has a Web interface and i am able to access it, even to download the playlist files. The only F***** Problem is the file ending, or the mime type, or dunno how its called. When i download on of those files on my home pc, its saved as playlist.m3u and opened with winamp.
I got the Mortplayer on my device and i am almost sure that its able to handle these files.
But when I look on the downloaded file on my mobile device it hasn't got a file ending, and i am NOT able to open it. WTF? Any ideas?
The content of the file looks like:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8888/Folder/Subfolder/Track.mp3
It would be so great if anybody could help me!
Best regards

I'm going to assume that you're talking about Windows XP. Just open up your Edit menu and take a peek in Folder options. There ought to be something in there about file associations. I'd be more specific, but it's been eons since I've tinkered around with Windows.
No its on a Smartphone... It should automaticly un-compress it self and install, but all it does is opens windows media player. This is for any .CAB file at the moment
PLEASE HELP!
i suspect a hard reset would do it but if you want to avoid that..
found this page which discusses the subject but seems to be based on pocket pc, if you have a registry editor it might be worth checking out the keys they mention in case they are there on your phone. also like they say resco explorer can change the association.
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16581
I'll keep looking and post if i find an easy way of fixing this.
Hi to all. First of all, I've tried to search but I got to ask since I can't find this topic anywhere.
Ok. Does anybody know how I can open a file with the extension *.txt with my preferred program? When I click directly on the filename, the text is opened in Word Mobile. I would like to just click the filename and don't open my application before I can edit my file. I'm using another application that I prefer for editing my txt files. All suggestions are welcome
use total commander to associate file extensions with programs if your pref
or do it manually using a reg-editor
Thanks for the reply. But if I associate from TC, it still open with MW when I start any txt file from todayscreen, (from within PocketPlus). I suppose that using the TC only work when you open from TC? So I'll try to use a reg.edit. and see what happens. Thanks again.
you can use Schap's Advanced Configuation and change file associations..
I've tried Adv Conf 3.3, but still the Mobile Word opens my txt files
what do you use to open them? you might have specific file associations in your file browser.
what about resco explorer? it works to fix this problem in my device
I prefer the NeboPad, and the registry sais that my txt files should be opened with NeboPad. It seems that MS override this, during the copyright
this is impossible. assiciations are set via OS.. if you set a specific association in Adv Config.. it'll work for the OS unless you're using a file manager that opens using its own preferences. try another file explorer like Resco
I'm running it from Spb Pocket Plus and not from any file explorer. In the Advanced Configuration 3.3 it's stated that file with the extension of *.txt, should be opened with \Program Files\NeboPad\NeboPad.exe. But still it's opened with Mobile Word. I think I'll have to go back to Notes with the *.pwi extension. Anyway, thank's for trying.
Regards
if you use notes and it works thru Spb Pocket Plus it means that this NeboPad is the problem, not your association.

Well. I've tried a lot of editors and pad programs by this time, but every time I try to open a TXT file, it comes up in PWORD. This must be something in the OS itself I belive. Or has anyone managed it to work?
At last!
Finally I've found a program that's works. It's MobilePad (nice too).

Hi All,
I'm trying to map network drive using the Resco Explorer, however Resco does not see the SAMBA (3.2.5) shares
There is nothing in sambas log suggesting the HD2 is trying to connect.
I had no problems with wm6.1 but on my 6.5.x it doesn't work.
I was searching the forum but couldn't find the answer. Anyone has an idea? Maybe someone managed to solve this?
maybe this?

instead of COMPUTER\DISK, try this: \\COMPUTER\SharedDocs (=name of the shared folder on my pc)
this works with me, good luck!

Yep, I did exactly this the other day.
Resco doesn't see samba shares directly (like a windows PC would see them in my network places or whatever), so you have to tell Resco the location.
I have an ubuntu server called "ubuntu", and my shares are "music", "photos" and so on. To get resco to see the shares I typed:
\\ubuntu\music
\\ubuntu\photos
etc...
Note, it wont work based on IP addresses (that was what originally caused my problem).
To find out your PC name (if you don't know it) on a windows machine, hold the windows key, hit pause break, and then click on computer name (this is for XP).
Cheers.
blog post about this very subject
I got it too sometimes. I dont know the reason tho.
But hey it is so easy to set it up manually.
It is longer but will work anyways. Try the method the guy 2 posts above me posted with \\COMPUTERNAME\SHAREDFOLDER
WIll work if you are in the same network.
Ah and make sure not to connect via mobile network but with WiFi as then you are not in the same net.
Thanks all of you!
It works at least partially...
Works for shares without password, doesn't work for password protected shares. When i put \\computer\myshare and then press ok then I'm asked for user name and password. As soon as I fill them in the application freezes (maybe it tries to connect?) I gave it 5 minutes and then I had to reset HD2
Strange problem
I reinstalled resco but no improvements.
Thanks again
Yeah i noticed that one too.
Do not use pass protection on shares.
It must be a bug in the Resco Explorer.
Before i thought i made a fault but i never tried it out again as i assume a freeze as not too good for the device LOL
I'm not sure where the problem is. I tried the same on P3600 (trinity) with wm6.5. It does not freeze, but is re-asking for credentials, so I guess there are two problems:
1) resco on hd2 freezes (probably when the resco cannot connect - bug)
2) authentication problem?
Probably I'll skip the password protection until someone will find the solution...
Works fine here. It sees the shares on my XP machine, but not on the 2 Win7 ones so I have to enter them manually for those. All 3 have password protection.
On one of the W7 machines it "freezes" for about 10 seconds the first time I access the share after a soft reset, for the others it comes instantly. But that particular volume is huge (a 80% full 1.5TB drive) so it might have to do with it if it lists the contents, the others only have like 30GB on them.
You might want to try menu->settings, if you have data active as well as wifi then uncheck autodetection, and delete the network entry (or entries) that aren't your local wifi.
It can happen that it finds nothing or hangs if it tries searching the cell provider's network (that can have tons of hosts) instead of your local one.

Yes - no problem for windows, I'm struggling with SAMBA (linux) shares.
Fixed freezing/credential issues when mapping drives on my HD2
Hi guys,
I had the same problem of my HTC HD2 freezing in the Network Log On dialogue when trying to map a drive, and also the issue where I was repeatedly asked for credentials which would never save. I managed to solve this issue, though in my case the problem was actually due to the network share settings on my NAS device (which is a QNAP TS-109).
What I did to remedy my problem was:
Go to the Administration page through the web-based interface for my TS-109.
Go to the Access Right Management menu.
Go to the Share Folders section.
Click on the Access Control icon for the folder I wanted to map.
Under the Guest Access Right drop-down menu I changed Deny Access to Read Only.
After that I was able to log in with my admin username and password, and to save the mapped drive on my HTC HD2 (I mapped drives successfully using both Resco File Explorer 2010 and HTC Network Plugin 1.0).
Hopefully this will work for anyone else experiencing this problem with a QNAP NAS, or if not then hopefully following similar steps on your NAS will yield favourable results.
Kate.
I am using HD2 with a Qnap NAS . Initially , got problem mapping drive as described by previous post . I did not do any changes on NAS . But , in the resco password page , i uncheck permanent login . Seems did the trick . Able to mapped folder on the NAS , even Hidden folders also . Hope this helps .

I've post this in Resco Explorer Forum, just yesterday:
Re: File Explorer hangs when mapping Network Drive on WM 6.5
First, excuse me for my bad english (I'm italian).
I think to be solved the bug in this mode (I've a Netgear STORA NAS):
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in wi-fi network adapter
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in your wi-fi connection
Now, I can succesfully map all my shared resources and add them in "My Network", but I can't use wi-fi to connect in Internet.
So I've revert both the above settings to "Internet settings" ad all it's ok, browsing in Internet and accessing to my network folder on NAS.
I think that the bug is present only when we try to map a network folder the first time.
I hope to be useful to solve our problem.
Bye
Although last post is long time ago, and mine is too recent. yet I hope it would be useful to somebody, and be able to repay the great advantages I myself got from XDA forum.
HardwareC with Win7 Home Prem, HTC HD2 with RescoExplorer v.8, Wifi Connection
first, as most of the posts, I can see PC while mapping in RescoExplorer.
yet when expanding the +, I had to enter username and password, then I get an error.
well, what I did is that I shared a folder with everyone full access on my PC.
then on resco mapping I typed the full path, i.e. \\computername\sharedfolder
then, I got it...
NOTE: when exiting Resco, and accessing the mapped folder, I still had to enter my windows username and password to access my PC shared folder that has no password...
Thus, I think when sharing a folder with a password, Resco goes nuts. for two passwords must be applied...
Im not to sure where to look for this but i was looking for information on how to access my home network to access and play songs, vids over a wifi connection to play files straight off my computer or my Hard Drive.
My gf's Samsung omnia hd comes with a programme/application to do so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I do it via Resco Explorer, it has this feature build in. You can easily browse the content of your PC this way.

i used to use this, but since i got my HD2, i've been using Resco Explorer too! it's fantastic!
Network HD2
I've now got Resco Explorer after seeing this thread but still have no idea how to go about setting up the network.
Step by step instructions please, anyone?
Many thanks in advance.
You don't need 3rd party software for this - you can do it with file explorer.
Open file explorer
Do Menu, Goto, Open path, New path
Enter the shared folder name
Click OK
It's then available from the dropdown at the top left where you can change from device to storage card and back.
Network HD2
Hmmm... tried that, all seemed to go well, then it said it "cannot connect to server due to settings". Even though i'm connected via wifi and can get online thru various other programs!
Tried getting the internet settings from o2 UK and their website "cannot connect to this service at the moment" !
I think someone is trying to tell me not to do this!!
Hello there!
I installed the baseball superstar 2010 app by clicking a loose .apk that I've put onto my sd-card on my HTC Hero, and now I am wondering, where my saved season results are being stored. Or any save-files for that matter. I cannot find any result of this game on my phone.
Does anyone know where I need to look (and what app do you use to browse your files btw?) Would like to know if anyone has ever succeeded in editing these results too. And how, ofcourse
you can download astro file manager, you can search everything on your phone.
Hi there. Thanks for the tip. I think I have the location. I thought originally that it would unpack and install in some kind of folder, like all games do when you install them on a normal desktop. But.... with astro, when I click on the .apk file which I also used (I think) to install it on my phone, it asks me: browse file or open app manager. So I think the place to be is 'browse file'.
But then..... I always assumed, that my savegame, or my own personalised player would be stamped with the date of today, or yesterday, when I last played the game. But I cannot find anything recent. And there are filetypes my phone doesnt recognise, like: mpl, dat, and ptc.
So now my question is: how can I view these files on my desktop pc (because I cannot seem to browse the .apk file there) and do you have any idea which one I should try to open???
