I have a Cingular 8525 with WM5, using the lastest version of Activesync. I do not have wifi or 3g internet connection on my cell phone. Everything is synced and seems to be working fine but PIE doesn't work.
My Network management settings are:
Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: "My ISP"
Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: "My ISP"
Under Connections it reads: My ISP, and for select a modem it says "Cellular Line"
How do I enable my phone to use pocket internet explorer when cradled? The reason is that my RSS reader cannot update because IE cannot connect.
Save me! I spent the last 4 hours trying to fix this problem.
Hi,
I had the same problem some time ago.
In ActiveSync\File\Connections I had to tick "This computer is connected to: The internet". Now it works.

Change "cellular line" to "cellular line GPRS" from the scroll down box.
The saga still continues to no avail...
i clicked "This computer is connected to the internet"
and also selected "Cellular line GPRS"
What do I enter for Access point name, username, password, etc.
This is getting really annoying.

Is AT&T your carrier? When did all this begin happening? The settings I've given you are to be made directly on your device, and not from a PC. Try "auto pick" instead of ISP GPRS, and see if that helps.

One more thing to try: go to your connections settings, tap on advanced (at bottom) select MediaNet from scroll box, tap "proxy" the box that says it uses a proxy to connect should be unchecked (empty) The top box should be checked. You haven't done any internet connection tweaks in the registry have you?
0 internet registry tweaks, do you think you could link me to the cab that should be able to fix this for me?
Either way, and despite whether or not this gets fixed, thank you, thank you, for helping me.

Sorry man, I don't have the cabs for this fix. I remember reading about someone having the same problems and a cab fix was requested. Can't remember where I read about it. I recommend a forum or google search for the cab fix...I'm pretty sure you'll find what you need.
Ok here is the weird thing... I am running SPB mobile, and when I sync my weather is able to update for New York, NY. Doesn't that mean it must be getting an internet connection through PIE? DOes SPB mobile mess with the registry?
Anybody? Lately I've been using WiFi to update my phone but Id rather have it work when it is cradled.
Hi, on my Polaris I've my Gmail account which updates itself through IMAP4.
I want the following: Wenn i have a WIFI connection the email will update through WIFI, without WIFI I want hem to automaticly connect with GPRS.
This is standard with internet explorer.
I allready found out that you can switch the connection manually: Mailoptions --> Adanced server options --> Network connection, then change it to internet or GPRS
Is there a way to do this by for example making a network connection which can use both???
Don't know too much about the topic itself, but maybe try a more advanced email program like Outlook?

I'm still using my Hermes whith wm6, whith Outlook so there shouldn't be any real difference, but I haven't noticed the problem you're encountering. Whith WiFi on it uses it and when not, it uses GPRS/3G/HSDPA.
But then again, thw wifi network is set to connect to the internet, and the ISP settings are set to be automatically used.

Considering the fact that I got a 2-month free trial for Outlook, I doubt that the built-in email program is Outlook on the Polaris. Else, it would clearly state Outlook (M$ would not sell it anonymously , my guess )

Yeah I can do that, 'The Internet', only two options are available in the specified menu, 'The Internet' and 'Work' nothing else.
And the default messaging app is Pocket Outlook since ancient times.

Ok tanx, it seems that 'The Internet' is removed either by me or a programm, I was considering a hard reset for some other problems. (Activesync isn't working properly) so I think its the fasted way to solve this problem as wel.

After a hard reset still the same problem, the network connection selected for my IMAP mail is set to 'The Internet'
When connected to WIFI it will get my mail, when not, a pop up is displayed saying: Can't connect with current networkconfiguration. To change this configuration go to this link.
When I click the link I get connection configuration in which I didn't changed a thing.
I don't get it, doesn't anybody have the same problem as me.
Maby the new cooked ROM will help.
My Polaris configured automatically, I am not sure if it depends on the provider. I am using KPN.
It shows you the result during configuration.
Has yours completed normally?
I have had the same problem.
In Settings - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks - Choose there which connection u would like to use when device need to automaticly connect to the internet. I have there my GPRS Web settings and when i'm not on wifi it's using GPRS connection. When u have The internet there it cannot use it when u are not connected to it (when u are not on wifi).

Exactly, it's just weird that both type of connection can be used but you have to change it every time you want to use the other.
Which provider do you use??

Simple stated, I can use both for e-mail and internet and WIFI get's priority over GPRS/UMTS when in WIFI range.
ok... I've had this same problem where my TC won't check email, windows live, etc through my wifi, despite being connected.
The reason is... my wifi connection was setup to say it connects to "work" as opposed to "the internet".
For those having the same problem as me, follow these instructions...
1) Click on start, settings, connections, then "wi-fi" icon
2) Press (hold down) on your wifi connection, and then click "edit".
3) change "connects to", to say "the internet".
4) Click next, next, and finish.
5) Close the settings menu and try again.
Worked for me!
PS... yes I know I'm a donkey for messing it up in the first place, but it's all good fun learning!
Same weird problem here now.
It use to work without problem. Wifi was preferred network.
When wifi not available, GPRS/UMTS (T-Mobile NL) was used. Since yesterday i'm not able to retrieve pop3 mail through G/3G anymore. Internet is ok and WindowsLive also no problem. Also pop3 mail through wifi is no problem.
I'm going to hardreset now.
Hai.
First of all I'm very happy with my HTC Touch Pro UK. Before this I used a TyTN II, also a very nice device.
With the Touch pro a have a little problem when retrieving email through IMAP. On the TyTN II the email was retrieved through WiFi if there was a WiFi connection and through 3G when there wasn't.
For Outlook (ActiveSync) on the Touch Pro this works fine, but for IMAP connections, it only wants to connect through 3G, whatever I set in the Advanced Server Settings of the IMAP account. When I choose Vodafone GPRS it connects through 3G, also when there is a WiFi connection active.
Can this behaviour be altered ?
Hope anybody has a solution for this.

I wasn't aware that this was a ROM issue. On the TyTN II it was working with the default ROM. I hoped it was just a setting somewhere...
I'll wait for some more tweaks or a new ROM..
I've got the same problem with hotmail using windows live. It always connects via GPRS rather than use the available WiFi. I have found that if the wifi is turned on before soft resetting the device - ie it then starts up with wifi on, i can sync via the wifi connection until the wifi connection is turned off and then it always defaults back to GPRS.
Hmm, I would advise (since i havent got a device here yet to test...will do tomorrow) that you go through the wifi settings and make sure it is set to access "the internet" and not "workplace" or anything else??
Helping out would be so much easier if it was sat right infornt of me...will be soon

Tried the same and results are also the same.
Did anybody find a fix for this ?
Do a search for Modaco nodata. It should allow you to disable the regular 3G data connection, which should (hopefully) force the phone to use wlan if you have a working connection.
This is a fix that really needs to be sorted. If wifi is working, leave 3G alone!
Damn thing is costing me money! I'm not a on a data plan, so it costs a lot more than if I was.
I didn't take a data plan, because everywhere I go, I have access to wifi!
I shouldn't have to disable 3G!
Can't it be done automatically? If wifi has an active connection, don't use 3G/HSPA. Since there is already the nodata program, all it needs is changed to be auto. And yes, I use the word "all" very loosely, I don't know how to code for mobiles!

I used to have this issue until i switched my settings to "the internet" and not work. did u change both the settings for the wifi card AND the settings for the access point? (not sure if that was what made the difference, but now everything is going through wifi for me.

This is part of the solution IMHO. IMAP now connects through wifi when there is a wifi connection available, but it doesn't fallback to GPRS/3G when wifi is not available.
Any other fantastic ideas ?
Nice fixed one problem, created a new one, this I can't reproduce since my email isn't imap. For everything else if there is no wifi it will connect to edge.
anybody out there with an IMAP email account with the same issue?

What do you use for email ? POP3 ?
any reason why the above should not work "out of the box". i have been tethering fine with my BJ1 but got my FUZE yesterday and it's not working. Says "waiting for network" then "remote party has ended this connection".
i did try installing the modem drivers from the CD, did not help.
what is the most common cause of ICS not working with vista over USB?
thanks in advance.

i tried that, still does not work.
in VISTA i briefly see the RNDIS network connection go to enabled but quickly goes to disabled when the handset says "remote party has ended..."
on the FUZE i have
Settings | Connections | Wireless Manager | Data Connection = On
and the only thing i changed during my trouble shooting is
Media Net | Select a Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
settings also have wap.cingular as it should, and don't know what the preset password is - i haven't touched it. should i use the password that i know worked on the BJ1?
also, in WiFi Settings, does the Remote NDIS network adapter settings play into this? i put it on DHCP and it also says "connect to work" - should that be "internet"?
thanks

so now I'm on the please help me list with you!
I spoke to someone a rep friend of mine and he said they disabled the ability to tether. You need to have the tethering plan in order for it to work.

Yeah really! looks like I wont be getting rid of my tytn any time soon its going to suck to swap out sims everytime I want to tether to my laptop.
I had a similar issue:
An unlocked and custom-ROM Wizard worked with ICS just fine. My new Samsung Epix kept spitting out the dreaded "The remote party has ended this connection" almost immediately upon clicking Connect in ICS.
I see you already have MediaNET pointed to wap.cingular
I found I had to add the username and password:
[email protected]
CINGULAR1
I also set GPRS Authentication for MediaNET to CHAP.
I am internet sharing 3G beautifully over Bluetooth with Vista64.

4. Connect USB cable to computer

Network connection drop down seems to be absent in internet sharing on my Fuze... hmmm...
Well the hard reset with no extra stuff installed did not work :-(
I hope some HTC wizard can figure this out.
I think this is a Windows Mobile registry settings issue, not an HTC issue. They set it this way at the request of AT&T.
Got this from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437796&page=2
This may actually fix both the missing Network drop-down and the "Remote party has ended the connection" issue. Its for Sprint, but worked for me. Just substitute MediaNET for Sprint.
After my first post, I had to do a Hard Reset and then the issue jamorgan2008 is having (Network drop-down not showing). I didn't have this the first time. I looked up the Registry Key and it had Cingular ISP as the ForceCellConnection value. I deleted it and am back on again. As such, this may also fix your issue as well, hondaguyjoe. Do you have the Network option in Internet Sharing or just PC Connection? You may need a Mobile Registry Editor for this.

I have two Touch Diamonds (not Pro's).
One for my wife and one for me.
My Internet sharing (Start\Programs\Internet sharing) only has one drop down menu, "PC Connection".
My wife's has two drop downs "PC Connection" AND "Network connection".
Now I bought her's two days after mine at the same Sprint store.
Her Internet connection shares Internet via USB connected directly to a PC without issue.
Mine doesn't since I have not been able to set the missing "Network connection" drop down menu option to the appropriate setting of "Sprint". Instead it either say Waiting for network or error 67 invalid username and password (something like that)
I deleted the key: (not just the value)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection
Now I got the second drop down menu "Network connection", restarted the phone and now it works like a champ.

I was wondering if there is any way that when phone needs to connect to the internet it pops up a message asking which internet access i want to use, i have a fuze and dont have an internet plan and i noticed that most of the times i do something it connects to the att internet instead of my wireless network.

settings---> connections and modify the connection so that it can't automatically connect to it. there are also programs that I think can stop the gprs/edge from coming on, something similar to nogprs or something like that.
"http://www.benrichards.co.uk/downloads/NOGPRS.zip DEAD
This will allow you to shut off your gprs connection, it will not set up your wifi connection. You must get that to work also.
Here is the site where the link was posted
