Internet Access request - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I was wondering if there is any way that when phone needs to connect to the internet it pops up a message asking which internet access i want to use, i have a fuze and dont have an internet plan and i noticed that most of the times i do something it connects to the att internet instead of my wireless network.
thanks in advance

settings---> connections and modify the connection so that it can't automatically connect to it. there are also programs that I think can stop the gprs/edge from coming on, something similar to nogprs or something like that.
"http://www.benrichards.co.uk/downloads/NOGPRS.zip DEAD
This will allow you to shut off your gprs connection, it will not set up your wifi connection. You must get that to work also.
Here is the site where the link was posted

Here's an explanation of how it works by stewD!http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310087
Tested, works like a charm. Just run cab, and look for a no data icon in programs. CLick connection and toggle. Make sure the connection is deactivated in comm manager first, for nodata to work. Try connecting, and voila ! No gprs.

thanks man thats really what i needed, 1 question when deactivated does it still show the 3g on the top of the phone?

Qtek 8310 WiFi problems

Hi all, I am new here and to smart phones, did the "cc" tweak for the volume, worked great, I now have a wifi issue, i have signal, the phone see's the signal, but when i launch IE it say's "your internet comm is not config properly. Please verify your settings in data connection" I have looked at things and cannot find anything that loks wrong. I find connections but not data connections. If anyone can help.. I am deployed in Iraq and have very little access to any kind of help...Thanks-- ps..feel free to use email
It may be that internet explorer is set up to only use WAP and therefore not able to get a connection. In your IE options, make sure it says Internet or Work depending on how you set your wifi up.
Stay safe.

unwanted gprs connection

i have a problem with my s710...when i close pocketIE (from task manager) and stop gprs connection form comm manager, after few minuts the connection is up again! to stop this gprs connectin i must reboot my smartphone because in the comm manager wont work!
there is no other SW on my s710, so it's impossible that some program made che connection!
any idea?
Yep i get that too and no idea why

I also see a G (or E) in the middle and at the right hand side. And yes, according the manual the icon in the middle means G (or E) is available and the icon at the right there is an ongoing connection. I'm not sure whether the connection is actually used. I think there is no traffic. But that still leaves the question what initiates a connection on your guys S710.
On my S710 after re-enabling the phone function I only see a G (or E) in the middle, but not at the right. Also after some minutes.
I think thats a bug, when I use the gprs I get the small G instead of the antenna in the upper right corner. When I disable gprs it's still there. Has to reboot to get rid of it.
check email settings
you may want to check email settings. if you have selected to check your email account every X minutes the connection will activate automatically. uncheck the box or choose "never" and see if it happens again.
nope - both email accounts set to never

Check Live Messenger
Hello,
I noticed the same issue.
I had to perform a factory reset (Clear) to solve it.
I traced this issue to Microsoft Live Messenger, which tries to connect.
Hans
I wonder if there is anyway I can get it to prompt me before using the gprs?
Sometimes, while browsing, my wifi will cut out and start using my gprs. Which is why I would like my phone to ask me whether or not it can use gprs.
My old P900 always asked.
I'm currently looking if I can create a utility to do just that.
bump as I have the same issue...
most of the times I never realise that WIFi is gone and gprs has been activated.
There must be a way to ask us if we want gprs connection before actually activating it.....
Yep, same problem here. Sometimes I even disable "Phone" in Comm Manager and turn on "WLAN" just to be sure I'm surfing via my WiFi router, and not GPRS/EDGE.
You can always disconnect GPRS via the Comm Manager. Most programs have a setting weather to chose connection automaticaly or you can set it to wifi or gprs(like Internet Explorer)

That's the problem. The GPRS connection is active, but the GRPS in Comm Manager is disabled so you can't turn it off. I've seen some registry key changes that enable you to press the "red end call" key to stop the connection, but it soons resurrects itself and re-appears, and is still not enabled in Comm Manager to disable it.
I've not seen an option in Internet Explorer on the Smartphones to choose Wifi or GPRS, you just get "Internet", "Wap", "Secure WAP", "MMS", "Work". There is no option for Wifi only.
I been looking for a little program for a while now that prompts you when your Wifi connection has lost, and whether you want to continue with GPRS or not. So far, I've not found anything.
I've noticed programs such as Fring monitor such a connection and give you the option, but I would like to see something that is a seperate process and monitors the connection itself, and not just for one program.

You can apply this regedit in the way to disconnect gprs/edge connection simply pressing red button:
to resolve this problem:
Go to: HKLM-->Comm-->ConnMgr-->Planner-->Settings-->SuspendResume
and delete ~GPRS! value.
This value was couseing phone to keep active gprs connection by any meanings.
When you delete it, red button will close the connection again
Found this one somewhere one month ago.
Tested: it works.
Same problem here.
I have seen this issue discussed on several different forums. Is it a WM6 bug?
i just leave my gprs connection setting not set up. When ever i try and connect without WIFI i cannot use GPRS. This means i cant connect to the internet unless i have availble WIFI but at least i wont get billed for un wanted GPRS

It´s sad Windows Mobile/HTC forces you to do these things just to prevent being charged withour your consent.
had to do the same thing, just deleted the whole gprs account ... I actually got billed for 214 "gprs connection" the last month, wich was very expensieve. This is actually a huge bug, hope someone will fix it soon.
Its a money eating bug!

Any way for WM6 to ask befor automatically connect 3G/GPRS?

Hello community:
I need your help on this.
every time i accidentally click the weather icon on my HTC Today, or open opera mistakenly, or any other software wants internet access, WM6 automatically connects 3G without asking, which is killing my phone credit.
Is there a way for it to always ask before making a connection to internet? Or to limit internet connection to WIFI only?
thanks for any help.
settings->connections->connections->advanced->select networks
there are some texts showing "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using"
and a dropdownbox
select the dropdownbox item which is not called something like "my isp"
but pick the one thats called something like "my network"
then all programs trying to access the internet will be forced to use activesync as internet connection and if activesync is not connected they will fail!
or

sk-Tools Lite has an option to disable the GPRS AutoConnect. Or you might do a search in your Registry for the key and set it to '0'....

[help] internet trouble.

This phone is bugging me. ill be home, where I have low/no service, ill try to connect to wifi, but the phone will try to connect to gprs/3g. then sometimes ill have service and it wont connect at all. IE will work but not opera or some other programs. WIFI is searching 24/7 telling when theres a connection. anyone else have this problem?
I want to leave wifi on but only connect to networks registered.
I want if there's no 3g connect to wifi if available.
seems simple to me. possible? maybe i need to change some settings?
There is "no data" but that don't really solve the problem.
I have expereinced the same, especialy if I have low signal then the gprs/3g connections starts up.
It would be neat with an application that gave you a pop up where you had to confirm that you want to connect thru anything other than wifi or bluetooth.
I have the nodata program on my phone and it works great. Search the forum for the program and if you cant find it tell me and I'll attach the .cab

NoData is probably not what you're looking for. It will allow you to disable traffic through a selected data connection. But it must be enabled / disabled manually. Sounds like you're looking for something that will toggle automatically, giving priority / preference to your WiFi connection when it's available.
There's a program called CommMgrPro that will do what you're looking for. That is, enable and disable connections based on things like cell tower location, detection of WiFi, etc. There's also a forum page for the program here.
A program called Bandswitch (at the same site as CommMgr Pro) will do similar to NoData, except it will let you choose enable / disable based on Time of day presets.
Also here in the forum you can find a program called WifiLocations. It will do similar to the first program above above. If you search the forum there are a few more (some free) programs that will do what you're looking for. Good luck!
My problem with the nodata program is that I can't seem to disable gprs/3g traffic while using wifi. It might be that I have an old version, but I have found many times that even with nodata running in the background with disabled data traffic, it still connects me if I loose my wifi connection.

thank you very much for the info. I think I sorta fixed it pretty well on my own.Still need the toggle off and on though.
I hard resetted it with out the bloat. then configured my interenet like this:
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=110811
then i went to sounds/notifications in settings, i think, and disabled the wifi notification.
seems to work pretty well.
i take back what i said.it goes in and out. I had 3g service and it said I was connected to media net, but it wouldnt let me get to the net. this phone is a pain when it comes to internet and gps

what setup do i use in the first in the first box and the which setup in the second.

Edit your MEdiaNet connection settings so your proxy is DISABLED. If it is enabled your WiFi will try to use it too - which is not possible. Unchecking the proxy will have have no discernible impact to your browsing speed when you are using the AT&T data connection.

You can safely set both to MEdiaNet. If you have WiFi enabled and you're connected to your access point it will take precedent over your GPRS (Edge) or UMTS (3G) connection. It is not necessary to disable the AT&T data connection if you are connected and browsing over your WiFi connection. As soon as you turn off or lose your WiFi signal, your phone will go back to using the AT&T data connection.

[Q] How to force the phone to never use anything but wifi?

I sometimes uses the wifi connection to surf the web on my touch pro, problem is that the wifi reciver don't look to be very strong so sometimes I loose the connection, especially if I'm moving around.
I have found the program nodata, but it doesn't seem to work that well. Even if I activate nodata and have it running in the background while surfing the phone still connects to gprs/3g connection if the signal is lost. My guess is that if I click a link after I loose the wifi connection the phone seem to override the funtion of nodata. Is there any other software that I can use instead?
I want the phone to wait until a wifi connection is established again instead of changing to a 3g/gprs connection.
I'm not sure. Once I removed all the data connection settings, but then I couldn't use the data ever. I've been keeping an eye for a program that does this, but it seems that everyone under the sun other than me has a data plan.
hahaha yo are noy allone out there, I would alslo like to know how to disable data conection.
the answer - modaco nodata. Its not the neatest but the only one
EDIT: and also you can do this in Advanced Configuration Tool from "connections" menu item. If you want a more permament solution (because of the long way to the choise in the app)
All the apps I mention are really easy to google for

yes...nodata is the one you want.....just search and you shall find
Not sure if this helps but when I handed down my Hermes to my Father in Law just so he could use it for phone calls and TomTom (via BT GPS). I had AT&T block all data so he can only use wifi.
It works great! when his wifi is turned off and he tried to go to the web it says connection refused.
Thanks for the input guys, but nodata don't seem to help me. It's the software I use now, but it seems that somethign is able to override the nodata software leading the phone to dial up when the wifi connection gets a low signal.
I'll give the Advanced Configuration Tool a go, but it seems to be a lot of work going in there turning things off, just to go back and activate them again if I want to check my mail "in the field".
I have an at&t Fuze with no data plan, just unlimited text/mms. I cannot disable data by using Modaco's NoData because mms requires Media Net.
What I have done so that all apps use WiFi is the follows:
Under Start / Settings, select the Connections tab.
Launch Connections.
Select Advanced tab.
Click on Select Networks.
Under Network Management, change "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" to "My Work Network".
With this setting, I don't have Internet connection unless WiFi is active, which is what I want. Maybe the Touch Pro has something similar.
Thanks icwinner, that seem to have made the trick.
