I am currently in San Diego and the T-Mobile reception here sucks! particularly in Balboa Park and "home". has anyone in SD resolved that issue?
Is there an app that can boost the power to the antena or am I just going to have to modify my phisical antena to help?
is there a better radio for this area (I dont care if it drains more power)
it is ridiculous. I am standing on the street in my jammies typing this!
I have had no problems in NYC OR PGH (pgh by the way has the best reception I have ever seen.. no need for 3G good!)
Anyone know how I can improve the reception?
This is the only place in the world that I have dropped calls!
Thanx in advance.
39 people saw this post, but no answers. isn't anybody on XDA form San diego?
I was in SD a few months ago and had no problem. Try 2.19 or 2.71 radios.
i will try 219 again... but as I recall, the calls do not come through while connected to gprs.. which means I will have to diconnect my automatic email.
SVI, 1 month ago I had Radio 2.71.11 on my phone and I had great reception at the San Diago Zoo and down on Corona Beach. I used my Wizard quit a bit. I did not miss any calls.
San Diego reception
I am in San Diego but on ATT and have no problems. Spend a lot of time in Balboa Park and get wonderful reception there.

LOL If I had ATT I would have great reception too. but I have T-Mobile. I lost a call while going to the prado to get a cup of coffee. and in the canyon that I live in I have to go outside to get reception. I will try the above mentioned radios. (like I said, they make me miss calls while connected to gprs)

Just a quick one for us Orbit 2 owners (or indeed any HSDPA o2 users)
Anyone noticed it seems o2 have upgraded their network?
I seem to be getting HSDPA connections everywhere, where I used to get 3G, 3G where I used to get EDGE and EDGE where I used to get GPRS so everything seems to have gone up a notch.
I don't seem to get GPRS anymore... just EDGE or above.
I only get EDGE at home though although 150-300k EDGE isn't exactly terrible on a PDA for free... and until BT get's their finger out it means 150-300k internet on the PC... what I'm posting this on!
Just quite chuffed!
i'd agree with you...
I've notice that i generally get hs now and i'm certainly noticing the edge symbol a lot more!
my speed has been great since i phoned up and asked to but increased. as suggested on this forum. just done a test this mornibg.
1452kbps Nice!
Yeh Same for me, I used to get only gprs, and occasional 3g, and now im getting Hsdpa pretty much everywhere, which makes youtube on the go brilliant!
Where are you guys from? I'm from Merthyr Tydfil in the south Wales valleys. Bit nervous of changing to O2 yet as I dont know anyone with an O2 phone to check what their 3G coverage is like. According to their website, only Cardiff and Swansea have 3G.
Some parts of Merthyr have 3G. Went up there in the car the other day and got 3G at the VW garage.
Got HSDPA in Abergavenny, but only 2G in Gilwern.
Still only got GPRS in plymouth. Still no HSDPA, but 3G in the city center
DNS resolution has improved markedly in the past fortnight in my opinion. Before I was waiting many seconds to connect to a page (resolve the DNS) but now it is much quicker.

Hi. Yes, I have to agree too. Over here in Northern Ireland, my coverage was very poor - only Edge available in Belfast - and I live about 20 miles away. Then about 3 weeks ago, I suddenly started getting 3G, and last week it changed - most of the time - to H. I checked te O2 website, to discover that there wasn't even any H apparently planned for here. Rang O2 to check if it was just a test, but they didn't have a clue.. Surprise, surprise..
Agree'd,
Great in Leicester, locks straight on to H as soon as I'm near... Very fast! And freeeeeee!!
Northamptonshire's main towns are covered, smaller towns are getting there!!
Still no upgrade in speeds here. maxing out around 128kbits/sec. Anyone have any great success with customer services, or is Emma in the Press Office Still the best way to get the upgrade. Has anyone's speed been upgraded without asking?
nothing haappened in Glasgow. If i live in some village with sheeps with nearest shop 15miles away i dont care. But Glasgow??? Probably they dont like weggies :-(
Hi I am new here. i have been lurking for a bit but didn't find an answer to the question I have so I decided to sign up. First a little background... first time android user coming from an iphone. I really like the NS, couldn't be happier. I am also pleasantly surprised by T-Mobile's data speeds. I live in Manhattan and as everyone knows ATT is the pits for reliable service and fast data speeds there. I have gotten 5.11mbps down using the speed test app on T-Mo in my apt. With ATT I could only get .78mbps down as the highest. Videos, websites, music downloads are all really quick on the NS. It is actually faster then my cable provider's internet service...probably because time warner sucks and my cable is split about 45 ways. I happen to work in Jersey City, right on the Hudson river overlooking Manhattan. When I am in the World financial center in lower Manhattan commuting to work I get the same high data speeds as I do in my apt. The WFC is right across from where I work. When I check T-Mo's coverage map there are 2 cell towers a stones throw from my building on the river front. That being said I only get Edge coverage. Does anyone else have an issue with bad 3G to Edge handoff with the NS or with T-Mo in general? I feel like I should have solid 3G service there! Is there a way to force 3G?....I would assume that 2 bars on 3G is better then 5 on Edge, at least as far as data speeds are concerned. T-Mo's site list my job site as having excellent coverage. Also, I have eliminated the possibility that the building I work in is causing the issue. When I am outside the issue persists. I have about a .25 mile walk to my building in Jersey and all along the way I am sitting on Edge.

kinda confused, are you using the phone on ATT or Tmo?
if its on ATT you will only be getting EDGE
Sorry for the confusion...this is on on T-Mo.
To help diagnose the problem ... do you have any friends who can verify that there is in fact T-Mobile 3G coverage at your work? (where you say you only have EDGE)
This could be a service issue that T-Mobile is unaware of; you could also call customer service and request that they test those towers.
may also be a matter of a Tech re associating your device with the tower
@Ravidavi: unfortunately I am the only t-mobile user in my group! everyone else is on vzw or att.

I've seen this too. This is my first t mobile phone too but it switches to edge and stays there in solid 3g areas. I want to like t mobile more but this is making it hard for me.
I'll call customer service. Complaining a bit might put it on their radar....

I called customer service. There is a known issue in the area.... Must be related to the blizzard we had.

Welcome to Android!
For the future, you can force 3G by going to your dialer and inputting:
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone Information
Flick down to where you see Preferred Network Type
Select 'Wcdma Only"
You will see your signal reset and should 3G be available in that area, you'll pick it up. I'm also a fellow Manhattanite and am too loving the T-Mobile speeds since I came from iPhone in January 2010 with Nexus One
Sweet thanks for that. It indeed showed no service at all on wcdma. That will definitely be a handy trick in the future!

I live in Milwaukee, WI and even though I knew the city was not due to get 4G until summer, here I am surfing and downloading at insane speed!
I know the speed test app by speakeasy was giving skewed results but I've been testing using the browser version. I have been hitting around 13Mbits/sec download but only 1Mbit/sec upload.....so maybe it's more like 3.5G. (and yes, it days the network connection type is the phones settings is LTE, and the 4G symbols shows in the notifications bar)
Still, I am super happy with even this and I really hope it continues to work.
If anyone else has been seeing this (even in other cities) it would be interesting to hear about...and for further discussion, might anyone know what the cause of this "miracle" could be?

most likely there are towers active in your city, and that city wide rollout is planned for summer. they may be in the testing phases too with a limited number of towers turned on. Portland is not listed as having 4g, but anybody in the north west portion of the city are getting it.. There are 2 towers active over there
I'm in a far, Northwest suburb of Chicago, Il. and the 4G LTE showed about twice.
Psosmith82: Yeah I was thinking it might be something like that... since I was rolling through other parts of the city today and noticed it was 3G only.
I'm really just hopping I don't 'lose' LTE connectivity for any reason (even thought I know it is not technically rolled out)
Good to know. I'll be down there in a few weeks for the Miller Park opener. Hopefully I can get 4g's when tailgating.
Hey, I live in Orlando and notice city above me have LTE and the map shows otherwise. So it might be beta testing some new towers which is great. Need to test this baby in a building and we should be superb. Love the phone and the network.
This is similar to the Sprint WiMax rollout in Los Angeles when I test drove an EVO 4G for a month last summer (June IIRC).
Sprint was just finishing up the tower installs in the downtown area and you'd see many reports of people getting WiMax signals for a half day or two and then nothing. Clearly what's going on in your case; enjoy the pleasant surprise!
where (about) in the city are you? I'm very close to state fair park and haven't seen 4g pop up even once yet.
though I haven't ventured towards downtown in the past week or so.
Hi all,
How is the Verizon/Thunderbolt 3G/4G experience in the Midwest? In particular, MN, IA, WI, IL, MO, MI, OH? Do you think it's a viable option for Voice & Mobile broadband needs for a traveling sales rep in the Midwest territory considering battery life and 3G/4G coverage in the area? Please share your experience...
Thanks
Although I don't get to Ohio much, I can vouch for the rest of the states. Coverage is excellent with a few exceptions.
SE Missouri is garbage. 1X still works pretty good...128k or so. You won't be stranded, but don't expect to be surfing the internets at light speed.
NE Missouri and far Northwestern Illinois (Quad Cities area) is about the same. I forget the details, but some other carrier has a corner on the market up there and won't lease towers to VZW.
Same deal as above in far NW Missouri and SW Iowa. I think it's ALLTel up there.
Not much coverage from anyone in northern WI or MI.
To be honest, Big red has the best coverage, by far, of any carrier period. I've used them all and keep coming back.
4G is great where you get it. (St. Louis, Chicago, Twin Cities, Central Ohio) To be perfectly honest though, I live in St. Louis, and generally have my 4G off. It's too hard on the battery even where you have fantastic signal. I still get 1.5 Mbps on 3G and get double the use out of my phone. For normal use, this is plenty fast enough.
I live in Wheaton which is a west suburb of Chicago. Speeds are good. I usually get about 5-6 mbps down. Speeds in the city are fantastic though. I get about 15 mbps at my girlfriend's place in the West Loop.

Whoever designated MN, IA, WI, IL, MO, MI, OH the midwest had never looked at a map.
Here is to hoping we get 4G in the "true" midwest of the country.

If your worried about battery life and stable connection the tbolt isn't for you, at this time. Try Droid X, Blackberry, or dare I say an iPhone. LTE is still a work in progress.

Thanks for the replies. I think we're going to stay away from 4G for now and wait til bugs see worked out and battery life is better.

Oh no, not the iPhone! Back to the trusty old BB. I find it still the easiest to manage in a corporate environment.

If you don't stray too far from the interstate corridors, 3G was fine between my home in Lafayette, IN to eastern Ohio on my trip 2 weeks ago. Western MD on into WV might as well be a 3rd word country - no 3G at all. Not even in Morgantown near the university.
4G in Lafayette and eastern Columbus, OH. Supposedly also around Cinci. Got a brief taste of 4G on the east side of Indy last week when they apparently were testing it, but not since. Lafayette rep said by fall there will be 4G from Indy to Lafayette and everywhere in between. Can't help you with southern IN, since I haven't been there since I came back from AT&T.
Hey guys, so I've had my inspire for about a week now and I've been having a few problems.
I've noticed that my phone frequently goes from 3g "H+" to 2g or Edge or "E".
Speeds drastically drop, I have problems with incoming and outgoing SMS as well and honestly its quite annoying.
I live in Philadelphia, where service is usually rather great, should I return my Inspire for a new one?
Also, I dont know the terminology when it comes to screen pixels but I also have a tiny botched area.
GPS seems to be hit and miss, I more then likely will ask for a new device but I thought I would ask here first.
Thanks.

With the spots on your screen I'd take it in for an exchange. As for service i know in my area (Lafayette, in) they have been working on the network so i have had the same issue. I do know they are doing alot of upgrading to there network. I believe that Philly is one of there areas they are planning for 4g lte to be up this summer (correct me if I'm wrong). So that maybe your reception issue. But I would ask them about that too when your in with your phone for the screen.

Yeah, I made a post about it earlier.... I panicked and restored a Nandroid, thinking it had something to do with flashing the LeeDroid Desire to Inspire patch on Coredroid last night. I lost several minutes and a couple levels of Plants Vs. Zombies for nothing.

Personally, I'm hoping that it has to do with a network overhaul that will result in better overall speed, even for us!
