Windows Mobile Device Centre problem! - General Topics

Evening all - not sure exactly where I should ask this, so will try here
For some reason, everytime I try to sync to my PC, WMDC has started displaying the Add/Remove programs prompt whenever I connect.
I have tried uninstalling WMDC and a hard reset of the device, but it makes no difference and it keeps doing it.
I normally don't install anything on the device using WMDC Add/Remove so no sure why it keeps asking - it was working okay for months and just started this over the weekend.
Does anyone know if there is a "queue" or "file" or registry key that WMDC looks for to denote it needs to run Add/Remove programs when a device connects?
Cheers

Activesync connection wizard will not start

Hello all... I'm a total newbie to Windows Mobile and this site. Hopefully I've found the right place to post this. I have Win XP SP2 with activesync 4.5 and HTC touch pro (att fuze). My device connects to the PC fine but ONLY as a guest (tried this with someone else's device as well, same issue). I plugged my device into my co-workwer's PC and the got the option to set up a sync partnership. This option has never appeared on my PC. I've deleted/reinstalled activesync multiple times and tried other suggestions found here (checking & unchecking "advanced network functioality" and "ask about connection type" in USB to PC settings on the device). Prior to all of this I had software called Intelatrac installed on my PC. This is a "task tracking" program which uses activesync to connect to a Windows Mobile PDA device. I don't use this software in my current job so I uninstalled it. Somthing in the Intelatrac/Active sync set up is possibly the issue. I've connencted multiple devices to my PC and to another PC which has Intelatrac. NEVER is there an option to set up a partnership. Only guest connections automatically occur. All menu options in activesync except for "connection settings" are "grayed out" ("Syncronize", "Mobile Device", "Delete Moblie Device"). Any ideas what to look for? I have tried my IT department for the past month but have yet to find anyone who has a clue. Sorry for the long description.

Actually, long descriptions are best to identify problems
This is just a suggestion, but maybe this Intelatrac software left something in the registry that is being used by ActiveSync. My advise to you would be to first uninstall ActiveSync and then look for entries for this program in the registry and delete them if you find them. You could use autoruns to see if there are any processes/dll loading that shouldn't be there in the first place as well. Hope this helps...
Thanks for the reply... a problem with something left in the registry is exactly what I thought might be the problem. This being my PC at work, I don't have authorization to even look at the registry let alone edit it. Only our IT "help" desk group can don that . Through unofficial channels I got access and found that there are at least 20 references to "Intelatrac" left in the registry. If I can ever get these folks to look at the problem I'll report on the results. Thanks again!

MobSync auto-load / unload problem with Windows 7 UAC permissions

Not sure if this is also a Vista issue as I've skipped straight from XP to Windows 7. I use DooSoft's MobSync program to synchronise my PC's podcast downloaded folder with the one on my HTC Kaiser's storage card. The sync itself is working fine, but when I either connect or disconnect the Kaiser from the USB port, and MobSync is set to automatically launch as soon as the device connects, Windows UAC steps in and prompts:
"Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?"
This happens every time I either connect or disconnect the HTC and it is getting very annoying to have to open the UAC screen and click to allow every time. Any thoughts on how to stop this and give the program the correct permissions to auto-load? (I've already checked the permissions tab in the mobsync.exe properties, and everything is ticked)
Thanks!
Andre
Off topic here but...

I still might do, but UAC is a lot better in Win7 than it is in Vista - Vista's UAC is the main reason I didn't change from XP to Vista, in fact (well, that and DRM).
This is the only program I have any UAC problems with, though.
Andre
Any other thoughts on this? Does anyone else have this problem? Or can you suggest a better syncing tool than MobSync? (which, apart from this little annoyance, seems to do everything I want)

WMDC does not run at all on Vista business 32

Hi all,
i am really very disappointed, already spent around 12 hours looking for a solution,
the WMDC does not run at all on my Vista machine which is Business 32-bit,
i tried to uninstall, install again, reboot, more than 20 times, with no luck
this is making me creazy, i couldn't find someone suffered the same
please help me, i am willing even to pay for this help
regards,
sounds like a corrupt vista install I would reinstall or restore it back to default
how to confirm its vista
Hi..
thanks for your post?
how did you confirm that its vista issue,
could i just put the vista CD and ask to rebuild?
will it remove my files on the system
yes itll delete everything
my advice would be to get 7
"i couldn't find someone suffered the same"
was a bit of a give away
you could try another vista computer to verify
or if you're using usb you could try using bluetooth and virsa versa
personally I never had any problems with vista wmdc
its not showing the interface
my home vista machine is working fine,
my machine, is not, its not yet about connecting my mobile,
the software it self is not showing,
i install it, without any error msg, it shows in the start menu, and in the programs of control panel,
but when i click on the icon in the start menu, nothing show at all,
i belive it should show the interface even if the mobile is not connected yet,
acctually it shows ew devices
hi.
it shows new devices as unknown device then the driver couldn't be found
if it's a work computer they prob just removed the rights of installing new hardware
from your user account
i tried both with my user which is part of the administrators group, and also tried with the administrator account directly,
both resulted the saem
it takes around 1 minute on the "0 remaining time"
then it just hide without saying its finished or completed,
the result is an icon in the start menu,
and in the windowsmobile directory in windows folder, it shows some files, like setup, and drivers
then if i check properties of the icon in the start menu, it shows that its for first time installation,
i click on it, it install again
then the changes are on the windowsmobile folder in windows folder more EXE files are there like WMDC.exe (but if run it, nothing comes out)
if i recheck the properties of the icon on the start menu, there is no more target application, (you could call it broken link)
whats happenning
i went through the installation part of it,
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/install.htm
its exactly what happen with me,
but my side i reach the screen which shows "Installing device driver software"
then it failes after,
if i check the devices i find that it find a bluetooth device, but cannot install it correctly

Help please. Windows mobile centre stopped working in windows 7.

I have been using windows mobile centre in windows 7 64 bit for a long time successfully. 2 days back I was astonished to see that WMDC stopped working when I connected my Opal to laptop. I have searched a lot but of no use. I reinstalled WMDC several times but in vain. Further to say that my Opal can connect to my desktop having XP.
Help please to resolve this issue.

Just went throught this with someone else and on your windows 7 computer have you ran any registry cleaners/defrag programs?
The other individual updated his bios and all was well with him.
It's a slow process but we can work on it together and figure it out.

Thanks Just about right.
Yes! I have been using windows vista manager and I think that may be the reason. Actually this was not the only problem I faced. My copy/paste was also not working but that I corrected by registry back up. All my system restore were deleted and I could not do system restore.
Now after several attempts of install and uninstall of WMDC, I see another driver in device manager called pc to mobile usb sync which quite new for me. I didn't see it before. When I connect my ppc, it is detected as usb device.

Vista Manager will do that everytime. It is in the WOW files that makes it lose the setup and connection. If I remember right it removes a .dll that is needed. If you made a backup of your registry then go ahead and reinstall the registry from the backup. I love Vista Manager, but that was truely the only problem with the program that I found. If you don't have a backup, if you remember when you installed vista manager it did a restore point. You could go ahead and do a restore, just make sure you have all your files you need off first, just in case.

ActiveSync/WMDC, Xperia X1, Windows 7 Ultimate -> No connection.

Hello people.
I recently reinstalled my Win7 and I wanted to connect it with my X1, but when I plugged the phone in for the first time, Windows started downloading some weird drivers (RNDIS?) instead just opening the device control panel thing. Now I'm pretty much stuck and can't connect my phone to my PC (I get the connection error sound every time), except for the disk mode.
I've serched for some answers here on xda as well as on the internet and all the fixes I found either don't work, are already applied or open up new problems for me.
Here's what I've tried already:
Rebooting PC countless times
Turning off the advanced network settings in usb to pc menu on X1,
Reinstalling WMDC countless times
Downloading some weird WMDC updates from microsoft download center
Configuring the registry (Enum key) - getting access denied error to everything I'm trying to do there
Opening the device manager in Windows - It's just blank.
About the software and ROM status, my X1 was just HR'd and I've installed just some basic stuff like the performance pack (Advanced Config + SKTools), MortScript and S2P.
I know that the problem here is rather related to PC, but I hope you guys still can help me, as I'm running out of ideas (and sanity).
Sorry for my english (not my native language), and please do help me if you can.
Same problem here.
So far I've been able to troubleshoot it a little.
First off RNDIS is the regular WinMo driver. So nothing weird there.
Secondly WMDC does work when you run the app as an administrator (on my end anyways). That is in no way a solution though... just a workaround.
I now need to pinpoint the part that needs the actual admin rights.
I'm going to keep on trying to find the answer and I hope more people will help.
Thanks for replying for my post.
Launching WMDC isn't the problem for me though. It starts up fine, it just doesn't connect with the phone.
Keeping fingers crossed for a solution, and thanks again.
I managed to get it started too now.
Again, as an administrator it runs all fine and dandy, but no sigar as a user.
So after I get it started no connection whatsoever. Still looking...
Got it!
Installed the drivers through SCCM at system deployment. Then WMDC installs perfectly.
It still wouldn't run though. And this was because of a policy which was enabled: WPD Device: deny read/write access
Enabling write access solved my problem.
hi henk!
I had the same problem.
I changed the policy, then win7 installed drivers for the xperia, it recognizes the phone, I'm able to navigate into the memory card...
But the wmdc don't see my xperia is connected, and if I try to transfer some music from win7 to my xperia, it's very slow(1b/s)!
Have you got any idea?
Had you the same slow speed?
