Hi all,
i am really very disappointed, already spent around 12 hours looking for a solution,
the WMDC does not run at all on my Vista machine which is Business 32-bit,
i tried to uninstall, install again, reboot, more than 20 times, with no luck
this is making me creazy, i couldn't find someone suffered the same
please help me, i am willing even to pay for this help
regards,
sounds like a corrupt vista install I would reinstall or restore it back to default
how to confirm its vista
Hi..
thanks for your post?
how did you confirm that its vista issue,
could i just put the vista CD and ask to rebuild?
will it remove my files on the system
yes itll delete everything
my advice would be to get 7
"i couldn't find someone suffered the same"
was a bit of a give away
you could try another vista computer to verify
or if you're using usb you could try using bluetooth and virsa versa
personally I never had any problems with vista wmdc
its not showing the interface
my home vista machine is working fine,
my machine, is not, its not yet about connecting my mobile,
the software it self is not showing,
i install it, without any error msg, it shows in the start menu, and in the programs of control panel,
but when i click on the icon in the start menu, nothing show at all,
i belive it should show the interface even if the mobile is not connected yet,
acctually it shows ew devices
hi.
it shows new devices as unknown device then the driver couldn't be found
if it's a work computer they prob just removed the rights of installing new hardware
from your user account
i tried both with my user which is part of the administrators group, and also tried with the administrator account directly,
both resulted the saem
it takes around 1 minute on the "0 remaining time"
then it just hide without saying its finished or completed,
the result is an icon in the start menu,
and in the windowsmobile directory in windows folder, it shows some files, like setup, and drivers
then if i check properties of the icon in the start menu, it shows that its for first time installation,
i click on it, it install again
then the changes are on the windowsmobile folder in windows folder more EXE files are there like WMDC.exe (but if run it, nothing comes out)
if i recheck the properties of the icon on the start menu, there is no more target application, (you could call it broken link)
whats happenning
i went through the installation part of it,
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/install.htm
its exactly what happen with me,
but my side i reach the screen which shows "Installing device driver software"
then it failes after,
if i check the devices i find that it find a bluetooth device, but cannot install it correctly

Check the ActiveSynch icon. If it is greyed, it means ur XDA2 is not synchronized/connected to ur computer.
It has to be "light green color" icon.
you its light green and if i double click "my pocket pc documents" from the desktop i can connect to the " My Documents" dir on the phone..
but when i click on the phone icon in explorer nothing comes up whereas on my old xda i used to have all the dirs inc windows and a load of others..

I suffer from the same problem but mine is rather strange. I have an iMate with the latest firmware. My home PC runs Win XP.
On a clean reboot, I am able to access my iMate using Windows Explorer. However, if I pull my iMate off the cradle and put it back on later, Windows Explorer will show me a blank directory and no amount of refreshing will cure the problem! I have to REBOOT WINDOWS before it will see the files again!
I am most annoyed with Microsoft. I have been using Palm for the past 5 years and have never had a problem like this.
I've run across the same problem using any PDA device (i.e. not only XDA2/MDA2) running WM2003 and ActiveSync 3.7.1 on a WinXP machine. Suppose it's got something to do with the AS 3.7.1 and WinXP being used together as I'd never had similar issue with AS 3.x on the same PC. Moreover, all runs just fine even with ActiveSync 3.7.1 on a PC with Win98.
What helps to solve the problem for me is closing the open window previously used for browsing the PDA and then opening it again by either hitting the Explore button in the ActiveSync window or clicking the Mobile Device icon in My Computer.
PavelR.
Just so you guys know, I managed to fix the problem by uninstalling ActiveSync 3.7.1 and reinstalling AS 3.7.
I noticed a lot of these problems also go away if you close all open explorer windows on the XP machine and then retry. Some caching bug probably...
Evening all - not sure exactly where I should ask this, so will try here
For some reason, everytime I try to sync to my PC, WMDC has started displaying the Add/Remove programs prompt whenever I connect.
I have tried uninstalling WMDC and a hard reset of the device, but it makes no difference and it keeps doing it.
I normally don't install anything on the device using WMDC Add/Remove so no sure why it keeps asking - it was working okay for months and just started this over the weekend.
Does anyone know if there is a "queue" or "file" or registry key that WMDC looks for to denote it needs to run Add/Remove programs when a device connects?
Cheers

Hey all. I realize I am posting this at the risk of being flamed. I searched and I didn't see anything that offered my method of flashing a Windows Mobile ROM using Windows Vista, which actually surprises me. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and I have found an easy way to flash ROMs in Windows Vista. I could go into great detail how M$ changed the Windows Mobile connection to sudo network connection in order to create a more secure and manageable product, but instead I'm just going to get straight to how I did it and let the flaming chips fall where they may.
1. Disable UAC. This is very simple. Run MSConfig.exe and select the tools tab. Choose disable UAC. Reboot for the settings to take effect. I could go in to how I don't like being a human firewall for M$, but I digress
2. Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. Click the "skip overview and jump to the download link". Read on if you like, but here is the link. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx#download
Choose the right language and install.
3. Disable the sudo-network connection I mentioned earlier. Do this by going to Start/Settings on the Windows Mobile device and find the USB to PC icon and uncheck the “Enable advanced network functionality” checkbox. This will be under the “System” or the “Connections” tab, depending on the ROM you use. This causes your device to register as a USB connection rather than as a network adapter with Windows.
4. Connect the device to your Windows Vista machine and allow the drivers to install. Open Windows Mobile Device Center and establish a connection. You can choose the “Connect without setting up your device” option if you don’t already have a profile. This is like choosing cancel on Windows XP during the connection wizard dialog.
5. Now that your device is connected, you can flash your phone as you would on a Windows XP machine. Note that when you flash with a new ROM the default settings will require that you follow this procedure again if you wish to flash your device from Windows Vista.
I hope this helps someone. I discovered this on a hunch that Windows Firewall and UAC are the culprits with flashing your device on Windows Vista x64. This worked for me. I hope it helps others. I haven’t tested to the contrary, I just stopped testing when this worked. I’m sure someone more diligent that myself, can confirm or deny my suspicions.
Thanks,
JaMMy
I have never had a problem with vista. i disabled uac, but that is all that i had to do for flashing to work perfectly.
I haven't even disabled UAC. Just need to run the rom update in admin mode (which it prompts you for anyway). Never had a problem.
how do i disable the UAC?
dear senior,
i am the first to touch the pda phone. i got headache about flashing the rom in my tytn, and i have try the step to get the latest active sync for my vista but still cannot flash the rom and keep coming out the error connection problem. would u pls give me some tip do the flashing work. and how to i disable the UAC?
msconfig > tools > disable (UAC)
I've been flashing with Vista Ultimate x64 for almost 2 years now. I simple click the .exe, and off it goes.
I have made 0 system changes. UAC is on, AntiVirus is on, Firewall is on, etc...

Me too. Operation on XP and Vista exactly the same.
and for the record. i wouldn't disable uac. what i do suggest is put the phone in bootloader mode then plug it into the computer. let it realize the device in bootloader mode then load up the driver. then you may try the flash. uac is your friend! leave it alone.

windows vista provided all the update needed to revert back to similar active sync setting for xp so if your update are off then you will have trouble also if you manually up dated your system with vista you may need to manually install the upgrades for your system that is similar most vista update do not recongize certain system that are not commercial for instance ibuypower systems etc..... and some older version of acer formaly known as e-machines...
my acer laptop with windows vista work out of the box flashing although sometime i have to reboot my system after certain flashes
but my dell desktop manually update vista 64 works with out a hitch
Hello people.
I recently reinstalled my Win7 and I wanted to connect it with my X1, but when I plugged the phone in for the first time, Windows started downloading some weird drivers (RNDIS?) instead just opening the device control panel thing. Now I'm pretty much stuck and can't connect my phone to my PC (I get the connection error sound every time), except for the disk mode.
I've serched for some answers here on xda as well as on the internet and all the fixes I found either don't work, are already applied or open up new problems for me.
Here's what I've tried already:
Rebooting PC countless times
Turning off the advanced network settings in usb to pc menu on X1,
Reinstalling WMDC countless times
Downloading some weird WMDC updates from microsoft download center
Configuring the registry (Enum key) - getting access denied error to everything I'm trying to do there
Opening the device manager in Windows - It's just blank.
About the software and ROM status, my X1 was just HR'd and I've installed just some basic stuff like the performance pack (Advanced Config + SKTools), MortScript and S2P.
I know that the problem here is rather related to PC, but I hope you guys still can help me, as I'm running out of ideas (and sanity).
Sorry for my english (not my native language), and please do help me if you can.
Same problem here.
So far I've been able to troubleshoot it a little.
First off RNDIS is the regular WinMo driver. So nothing weird there.
Secondly WMDC does work when you run the app as an administrator (on my end anyways). That is in no way a solution though... just a workaround.
I now need to pinpoint the part that needs the actual admin rights.
I'm going to keep on trying to find the answer and I hope more people will help.
Thanks for replying for my post.
Launching WMDC isn't the problem for me though. It starts up fine, it just doesn't connect with the phone.
Keeping fingers crossed for a solution, and thanks again.
I managed to get it started too now.
Again, as an administrator it runs all fine and dandy, but no sigar as a user.
So after I get it started no connection whatsoever. Still looking...
Got it!
Installed the drivers through SCCM at system deployment. Then WMDC installs perfectly.
It still wouldn't run though. And this was because of a policy which was enabled: WPD Device: deny read/write access
Enabling write access solved my problem.
hi henk!
I had the same problem.
I changed the policy, then win7 installed drivers for the xperia, it recognizes the phone, I'm able to navigate into the memory card...
But the wmdc don't see my xperia is connected, and if I try to transfer some music from win7 to my xperia, it's very slow(1b/s)!
Have you got any idea?
Had you the same slow speed?
I got my Samsung Omnia 7 yesterday and have been unable to get Zune to recognise it.
My Windows 7 PC recognises it, the drivers are installed fine. I've read about the issue with the corrupt certificate but no certificate ever gets created.
I've followed the advice on a blog which was to delete the folder at C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\, the folder get's recreated but still Zune fails to see me phone.
Is there anything else I can try? My phone is pre-NoDo status and is telling me there are updates but I can't get it hooked up to Zune to transfer music, update, etc

This may sound a little strange, but I saw several posts where similar problems have been solved this way:
did you try a different usb port?

Yeah, tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop. The phone is picked up in Windows by all of them but still the same in Zune If I plug the phone in then Zune starts so it's detecting the phone but doesn't get any further.
Updated Zune?

I downloaded Zune on Saturday so I thought I had the latest version. I'm going to try the password solution. My account is a domain account so getting it back to using my original password is a bit of a pain because of the password policy on the domain but the net admins are going to let me reset it tomorrow.
My password hasn't changed since I installed Zune but it has changed once since I got this laptop.
OK, so I've had my domain password set back to what it originally was but still no joy. The folder get's created in C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA but no certificate gets created in my personal store.
Is there no way to manually create the cert?
SOLVED: Turns out it was a piece of software called CoSign which is installed on my work laptop which deals with digital signatures. It had taken control of my personal cert store.
Uninstalling it has resolved the issue.
No Need Hard Reset!
Hi all who has this problem.(Even to myself before I did this.)
New fix WITHOUT A HARD RESET LIKE ABOVE SOLUTIONS!
Hope you are looked at this before doing a Hard Reset.
1) Start up diagnostics
OR
Call ##634# (if you dont got the diagnostic "app" in the apps homepage
2) UNPLUG IF YOU HAVE THE PHONE PLUGGED
3) with the Diagnostics Menu, press *#7284#
4) Press an option that is not Zune Sync(E.g. Micro USB or Modem)
DONT KEEP PRESSING THE OPTIONS. PRESS ONCE ON ONE OPTION ONLY AS IT SOMETIMES GETS F-ed Up.
5) Wait for the reboot when prompted
*AFTER REBOOT, REPEAT STEPS 1-3, At Step 4, press Zune Sync again this time, and Wait for REBOOT when prompted again. Tedious, but rewarding.
6) On the Zune software on your Windows, Press Settings at the top Right
7) Press Software in main-menu ---> General in sub-menu
8) UNCHECK "Start the Zune software when I connect a compatible device
9) Hit "Ok", exit Zune
10) CONNECT PHONE TO WINDOWS
11) Connect Phone, not in locked screen(dont know if it affects)
12) Start Zune Software.
BOOM ***** YOUR DONE!
Found solution.
1.
If it is running, close the Zune software and disconnect your phone.
2.
Open Certificate Manager. To do this, clickStart , type certmgr.msc , and press Enter.
3.
ExpandPersonal , and then expand Certificates .
4.
Click the heading for theIssued By column to sort the column, and then look for one or more certificates that is issued to "zune-tuner://windowsphone/...".
5.
Right-click that certificate and then clickDelete . Click Yes .
6.
From theFile menu, click Exit .
7.
Start the Zune software and connect your phone to create a new certificate.
