I was just browsing through some rss feeds and noticed the driver issue was posted on engadget a few minutes ago. This means that all the other gadget feeds will inherently post the same on their site. HTC is about feel the wrath of our members undying persistence. They mention xda-developers, and the htc class action site as well. Looks like HTC is gonna hafta give us what we paid for. I can't wait. I bet we'll have them damn drivers in a month or so. I know it's been popping up on other news sites lately bu I was SOO hyped to see it on engadget! I'm so frickin excited I can't wait/ gimmme gimme gimme.
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/...-angry-mobile-owners-rush-castle-htc-with-bu/
What's a GREAT News!!!! When you make public (and i say VERY PUBLIC) an issue, treating it as a SCANDALOUS fact, someone has to take measures about it.
I hope this is the situation
www.tweakers.net had also posted something about the driver issue.
Tweakers was among the first big sites to cover it.
They are the biggest dutch IT community, and are in the top 20 of most visited dutch websites, so thats good coverage. In the Kaiser threads on their forums the driver issue also got attention.
Given that HTC is pretty big here, even advertising on big billboards, it might give the regional managers a push to escalate matters.
I just suggested the info to the two most visited IT news sites in France (Clubic and PC INpact). PC INpact provides the IT News for Yahoo France.
I hope it will be published.
We got the BOY GENIUS ON BOARD
The Boy Genius just wrote up an article on the drivers

Boy Genius Report too (I sent them a "tip" but I'm sure they knew of this before hand too.. )

Man, I'm telling you, ,,, WE WILL HAVE THOSE DRIVERS!! I've never seen a group of people online, band 2gether, and do what we have done This is incredible, seriously
w00t!! w00t!! I'm guessing HTC will come to its knees in the next week or two. What a glorious day it will be. I'm not certain, but I don't think they will have to do any development of these drivers. I think they've already been written, it's just a matter of paying for the license, and the goods will be ours. Does anybody know? I want to get an idea of how long we're talking about here, before I get to play crysis on my kaiser

Hmm.. I contacted them with this story, Like more people I think...
Yeah, looks like this snowball is definitely rolling. I have to say though, even if the drivers are released, I'm not sure I'll be buying from HTC again. I really have no faith in them after this. Hopefully Eten or imate will step up by the time I need a new phone (although those companies have their problems as well). I think a lot of this has come for the simple reason that as long as people will eat crap, it will be financially profitable to dispense it. Maybe with this publicity, other companies will think twice about screwing over their customers too.
When even an at&t bloated Pantech C810 is more responsive than an optimized out Kaiser/TyTN II. And HTC still doesn't get it?

Seriosly I don't think (use IPAQ few years ago) nobady offer better device like HTC.I also sign the petition when was started.
And most of the device have something in common with HTC:
-Fujitsu-Siemens,HP Ipaq,Qtek,Imate all was developed by old HTC Company before they change a few years ago the policy to sell own branded phones.Search the history and you will see.I use for 2 year and 1/2 HTC products (TyTn,X7500-short time and TyTn II) and i like them and with XDA support I don't think you will find a better combination.
This whole things reminds me of my ipaq h6315 from a few years back. HP and T-Mobile were both soooooo slow in releasing drivers and updates for that device. If it werent for homebrew applications and roms that device would have been nearly useless.

We’re hearing rumor after rumor that Android has been delayed, and pushed back to 2009. Well TmoNews is jumping into the pool or rumors, calling BS on those other rumors, and putting in our vote of confidence on a presale of the Android phone on September 16th, 2008. This information, coming from a trusted source, prices the Android phone, also known as the G1 (Codename or real name, we’re not sure) at $399.
Full invoice that is.
Scare you? Good, well during the presale of the G1, T-mobile customers can pick up the phone for $150. This is where it gets interesting, we’re not seeing any prices for new activations during the presale, so this could mean that only current T-mobile customers can pick up the G1 during the presale. Other customers interested in the G1 may have to wait until beginning/mid October before a national public launch. Many users have seen the recent video circulating the next claiming to be the HTC Dream (AKA G1), and have been complaining about the ugly white color. Well we have good news for you too, as the G1 will be released in black, white, and brown. Being 3G enabled, the HTC manufactured G1 will unfortunately require its own data plan from T-mobile, which we expect to be more expensive then current data plans. Interestingly enough (maybe not so much knowing Google) users will be required to have a Google Gmail account for the phone to work. So far expected specs include 3G, a 5″ long by 3″ wide touch screen, and a slide out Qwerty keypad, and no mention of UMA or Wifi. We’re really excited for this all-too-secret device to hit T-mobile’s lineup. Stay tuned to TmoNews for more information coming soon!
Update: The HTC Dream (G1) will have a 3.0 megapixel camera. The presale will last 1 week, and be for existing customers only. Employees are not included in the presale, sorry! Presale begins Wednesday, September 17th, and 3G will be a large aspect of this device. Use your imagination.
I CANT WAIT?!?!?!!?
Dude, hasn't Gixxum taught you anything by now. For one you shouldn't just find an article and copy and paste info in the Excalibur thread. Cite your source and credit them. It's just common courtesy. Also, it's just bloating the threads with rumors. Go post that in the Smartphone General Section.

Your message is a blatant cut and paste without referring the source URL.
That's why you're being called out on it. Had you properly included the source you wouldn't be having to try so hard to defend what is an indefensible action.
No matter....The phone hasn't been submitted to the FCC anyway, so all of these rumors of a September launch is suspect at this time.
As we close in on the 15th, I think two things will happen:
A) No Mango. The rumor-mill did it again.
B) Microsoft will STILL not have learned their lesson about replying to rumors.
They have to know what is being said on every single blog on earth. Type Mango into Google and it pulls up 500 news stories that say "durr will Sept 15 be release date??". Yet the closest thing I can find is a reply to a comment on the dev team blog. What happened to that guy who was hired after the NoDo fiasco to liaise with consumers?
Rule 1 in their position should be addressing rumors. No matter how small. Set up a "wp facts" page. Address the 15th rumor or whatever is next. By not, they're shooting themselves in the foot. I'm a cold-hearted cynic, and even I'm half convinced that it may actually begin being launched tomorrow.
A. I think the chance is rather high, but one never knows until that day gets here, right? That's what makes those rumors so power - the suspense of it. If it doesn't come people will just blame the carriers or OEMs. I think Microsoft was smart to say that their job was done, but they threw the OEMs and carriers under the bus in the process. Microsoft still has to approve the OTA even after the OEMs and Carriers do their thing, and there really isn't much to do since you they aren't allowed to bake in a ton of apps like on Android, WinMo/Symbian, and BB.
B. I think Microsoft thinks it helps them because it gets headlines, but when those days come and go the disappointment more than counters whatever was gained leading up to those days.
They did set up a webpage. Mango is not on it yet.
Just to answer your question. The guy they hired to be customer facing said in a blog post about a month and a half ago that he was going to maintain radio silence and "the next blog post will be the announcement that it is being released." A lot of good that's doing him.
While I wish they could have a concrete release date, I do wish they would at least deny dates. Sure it's our own fault for investing to heavily into unsubstantiated rumors, but they really could kill all of the speculation with one quick blog post.
Although the guys who said the release was this week have been spot on with their previous predictions, I may have to bet against this one.

A: Microsoft only have an estimate date of when Mango will be ready for roll out.
B: Microsoft will only roll out the update after it test the update infrastructure.
Lol @ test the update infrastructure.
No.
Also, "this fall" is not an estimated date. Fall is a season, not a month, not a week, and certainly not a date. It's a 3 month season and if they wish to pass that off as an estimated date, I guess it means they genuinely think their customers are idiots. An estimated date would be something along the lines of "the second week of September." "This fall..." That tells me nothing other than "we're giving ourselves a 3 month span so that if they ahve to wait until the dawn of Winter, we won't look like idiots."
But anyways, we've seen this tactic employed recently. Remember the Samsung US Galaxy S FroYo updates and #NeverAgain? Yea, that's basically what happened. I'm suprised WP7 users aren't furious they had to wait a whole year for an update, but this seems like a special kind of user base. Microsoft must be ecstatic they're given so much rope to play with (then again, they didn't sell 10M phones like Samsung, probably 3-4M in the US alone)...
Main issue is getting the update through the OEMs and carriers. Most OEMs already have the update ready, and they're even making new stock Mango phones.
Carriers are another deal, but I'm suprised it takes carriers so long with WP7 updates when they have a lot less stuff to test due to their inability to bake as much bloatware into the devices' ROMs and stuff like that.
Maybe the carriers are waiting for their partners (TeleNav, MobiTV, Slacker, Netflix, etc.) to get their apps Mango-ready before they approve it? Cause we all know they won't Okay the update if their subscription-based Value-Adds don't work correctly on it...

Microsoft has a policy concerning rumors. That is they do not comment and that is the best policy.
If this rumor is true, MS might make an announcement in the next few days and then the download will be available. If that's the case, then there was no need to comment on the rumor and say "Yes Mango is coming this week, but we want it to be available shortly after we announced it so we're not announcing it today."
If the rumor is false, people might be pissed at MS but they have no reason to be so. We do not know who started the rumor and all we ever heard from MS was "fall".
Now if MS were to dismiss every incorrect rumor as soon as they can (to not get up expectations), a missing comment on a rumor would kind of mark it as true.
They only comment on rumors when the rumor really might leave many people disappointed, like the Xbox + blu ray thing a couple of years ago.
Xbox 360s have sold way better than Windows Phones and this Mango rumor might be a big deal for us enthusiasts, but apart from us that's that.
BTW, I saw someone yesterday or the day before casually toss out the 2 PM PST time for a Mango release. That rumor's now dead.
I have a feeling it will be released on the 20th
9/15 isn't mango day, that was another rumor, folks. We've been saying "fall"... it's not fall yet! http://t.co/ZcvBO5ys

What lesson do they have to learn? They get free publicity, the only ones disappointed are the idiots that power the rumor mill.

by the way, that's the same guy that kept radio silence while the blog was exploding with angry people during the nodo update failure.
The best thing for EVERYONE, devs, users, shops, etc would be to a predetermined release date, well in advance too. Failing that, as the date closes in, more and more accurate time windows. Failing that too, bad enough as it is, at least dispel rumors. Because it's not like people are EXCITED about the update. People are IMPATIENT. And rightly so, you're putting out features that have been on every smartphone for a long time !
let face with it or without mango WP7 is never going to win much of the market share, I expect theres a few who will have renewed their contact & jumped OS's before the mango hits the consumer ?
I've always preferred Android over iOS because I love customizing my OS and being able to do whatever I want with it. However, one thing that Android manufacturers really needs to sit down and learn from Apple is how to launch a product. I remember watching the iPad 3 launch livestream, they had the exact price, they had the exact time you can start pre-ordering, and they had the exact date it will be released, then they posted a map of Canada with the estimated arrival dates of each city. And when the day arrived, I got a knock on the door and there it was. It was the best ordering experience I've ever had.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my experience with the Galaxy Nexus, Transformer Prime, and now the HTC One. They have all been absolutely terrible experiences. All involved reading post after post of speculation of when the release date is because these billion dollar companies somehow cannot decide when their product will be released.
When will Android manufacturers learn how to launch a product right? Someone should build a machine that automatically launches a missile at companies who launch products without pricing or release dates.
/rant
I guess it depends on what a person wants. Apple wants to get existing customers excited to upgrade and buy, buy, buy the newest thing.
Sure, Android has some of that, too, but people have choice even between manufacturers so it's a different environment. Android phone makers don't have the same captive audience. iOS isn't competing with and making last-minute choices dependent on other iOS phone makers.
I'm not looking to get the newest thing at the highest price the moment it comes out, so I don't really care.
It might be nice if companies could do this for their "flagship" devices, but they have a lot more on their plates than Apple does - dealing with the distribution of one new phone every year or so - not dozens.
Most of the release date speculations are from overzealous fans.
Samsung does a good job of advertising, with sales numbers to prove it, honestly I couldn't care less about exact release dates and if I get to see a map depicting delivery routes.
Frankly if people like yourself are so obsessed with device releases you might have a problem. Here in Norway we call that "fritids", transl: spare time issues

I hope HTC are victorious, with there marketing strategy.
Release a phone before everyone else and release a phone after everyone else. In the same year.
After buying an ultra, I will of course be buying there flagship release.
It's a technological strategy. Over marketing.

I have owned every HTC phone that AT&T has been able to carry since @2000. After my purchase of the U Ultra, I will probably never buy an HTC phone again. They have not made a profit in 4 years and could care less about their fan base. They are rude, unwilling and in general not creating quality products. They just lost their biggest fan.
