Impossible to install the HardSPL on my Tilt!!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hello to all,
I'm new on this forum and let me thank everyone !!!
I've an AT&T Tilt 8925.
First of all I tried both the ways suggested in the threads to install the hardSPL but I've always the same problem:
I've no problem to install on my device the JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe (or the 1.93) but when I launch the KaiserCustomRUU.exe I follow the instructions on my pc and after the program has detected my rom version (1.57) and
has started the installation of the HardSPL (at least it seems) the activesync connection disappears (it becames grey) and the RUU shows an "error" and suggests me how to restore my device leaving the battery etc. (but to restore everything it's enough a just soft reset)
Please can you help me???
Alf

Please post in the appropriate thread.

??? Which thread ???
I'm really sorry....which thread is the correct one ?
Thanks

No need to apologize. The one in which you got the hardspl files.

Okay, I'm gonna answer this because it's buried in the HardSPL thread & hard to find since it was answered once about a month ago by me. Diconnect your device, do NOT reset. Run thru the recovery or close out the HardSPL flash.(You are using Flash HardSPL w/ the RUU, right?) Reconnect your device & run the utility again.
If this doesn't work it's because I'm partially guessing. You've not provided nearly enough information. I need to know what SPL version your device currently has, also if you are running a firewall & which one, also if you use any McCafee products.

Fatal downgrade...

Hi there,
My currently installed Rom was RUU-Prophet-G4-AKU2.2-2.20-2.47.21-Jester-r1.exe. (thank you jester for you good job)
Nevertheless, this ROM is in English and I wanted to downgrade to a French One before the selling of my device.
I have tried to install the downgrade kit detailed in this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267344
The first step went OK but while trying to make the secnd step, my qtek is blocked at the boot splash screen showing the Jesterz picture and red information about the SPL and so on on the upper left corner... without starting... The USB connexion is not detected so I can't do anything... While trying to install any ROM, the USB connection is not detected ang I get an error message...
Did I kill my phone ?
Please help ! Tell me that it's not dead....
Don't worry, its nowhere close to being dead. If you have superCid, then use the SD card image to restore in bootloader mode. However, if the Cid is locked, then you would need a utility that can unlock Cid without Activesync mode (coz in your case, you would not be able to get an Activesync connection). imei-check.co.uk has a utility ($38 i guess) that unlocks Cid in bootloader.--- else show it to a professional. (in my country, I would have to shell out around $20 to get such a problem fixed at a mobile repair shop)

Just take out the battery for about 10 minutes and re-insert. If it does not re-start, do a soft resert with the stylus and hopefully you should be fine
Hy,please help!
after downgrade, it doesnt work anymore.... i mean... i cant start the mobile!
after the downgrade i disable the USB data cable and now the mobile is dead... it doesnt starts from the ON/OFF Button and even if i connect the USB cable it makes nothing! No Led on... nothing! absolutly DEAD!!!
I have tried to put off the battery all night long with no result.. but I have achieved to reach the bootloader mode by pressing the camera button while soft reseting and keeping the camera button pushed...
OMG, I have been so scared ! ! !
Try this in order to reach the bootloader:
Hold down the camera button and reset the device. (Boot Loader Mode is: Press Camara + Soft Reset, then release soft reset and KEEP PRESSING camara button till appear the Boot Loader.)
it doesnt work
I seem to have a simular problem. this is my post in another topic. It seems to fit better here.
This is what I tired so far:....
I used the RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_S hip-NoVendorID and it often hangs and was slow with Push Email over GPRS.
I tried to find a way to downgrade but hadn't had time sofar. When I logged on XDA Developers Site I saw there was a new Image.
So I thought Great I dont need to find how to downgrade.
I don't know what G4 and G3 is so as everybody let's try the higest best one.
I uploaded the RUU-Prophet-G4-AKU3.3-Jester-b1
Wrong...
Now as previously stated I get to the multicolor screen with IPL 2.09 and the SPL 2.20..0001 on the screen and that's it.
I can get to the bootloader and load the same image again and get the same result.
I can load another image on and it loads to 80 Percent and says error [326] Invalid Command This NBF cannot be used with your PDA Phone. Please check your NBF file.
If I try an older Version it tells me upgrad only
And when I try to upload the G3 version it tells me error[300] invalid upgrade tool. This upgrade utility canot be used for your PDA Phone. Please get newer Upgrade utility.
Trying to use the nf.nbf or the G3 with the ROMUpdateUtility_NoID of the G4 doesn't work either.
If I would like to do the downgrade tool I need a Active Sync connection which I don't have.
I have no more thoughts. Please Help.
If you would have just read the forums better you would have known if your device is a G3 or a G4. (read this!).
Now it appears you have tried both for an update. Which may possibly have bricked your phone.
But... first things first. Can you get into the bootloader? (read wiki HERE on how to do that).
If you can still get into the bootloader then there is still a possibility for updating.
Try upgrading with the latest Qtek rom (note: this is an official rom, this one works for both G3 and G4! And since it's the latest you should be able to upgrade to this one).
Instructions quoted from another post of me:
You could try the 2.20 qtek rom which seems to be working well for quite some people (found here).
Although you have to make sure you read that thread good and use the ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe (found here ) to upgrade.
Update instructions:
1: With the qtek 2.20 rom you need to extract the zip and the exe file in the zip with WinRAR.
2: Then there is one folder called 'OutputFile' and a folder called 'RUU_TOOLS'.
Inside the RUU_TOOLS there is prophet and in that one WWE, when you go through them and in the WWE folder you see a bunch of files (readme.doc, enterbootloader.exe etc etc).
You need to copy ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe to the WWE folder with all the files. And you also need to copy the 'nk.nbf' file to the WWE folder (from the 'OutputFile' folder).
3: And then you need to put your phone in bootloader mode and run ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe to upgrade, which should work nicely then.
Click to collapse
This should give you a good enough idea of what to do. This should work (new rom combined with no NoID updater).
However, if it's impossible to get yourself into the bootloader your options of upgrading your device are getting smaller.
Downgrading of a complete rom is only possible on a CID unlocked G3 (when it's CID unlocked you would know! because you would have done that yourself) and not on a G4 device.
Flasing a G3 device with a G4 rom or G4 device with a G3 rom might possibly turn your phone into a brick. This can easily be avoided by reading the forums properly and know what you are doing.
If anything (even if it's a small thing) is not completely clear to you about upgrading/downgrading your device I'd recommend not doing so.
edit: oh yeah... if you have a G4 device (which you should know by now) you cannot downgrade from this rom (well, only via a payed online service). And when you have a G3 device you could try and CID unlock it (read wiki + forums) before you want to downgrade, or don't downgrade at all.
But whatever you do, don't try to downgrade it without doing any of those things because you'll get into trouble. (to put it down bluntly)

If you have reached the bootloader screen, just run my installer (or any official ROM) to get your phone working again.

Sorry my Inglish is too bad.
I've merged a couple of threads under this one, as they are all about the same problem (mostly)
Opening a new thread for the same problem isnt very useful
Hi RaptorRVL
Thank you very much for your patience in resuming all this for me.
I do try to read the forum but it isn't like a manual where you find the procedure stepby step. Like the G3 and G4 version I have newer come across until now. Sorry.
I tried the image you metioned and I have the result that at 80% it tells me error [326] Invalid Command This NBF cannot be used with your PDA Phone. Please check your NBF file
Any more thoughts?
As you seem to be an expert Can you let me know more about goldcard solution.
Cheers
Mick
From a readme I once found inside an update:
* ERROR [320~328] : INVALID COMMAND
These errors seldom occur. However, if one of these errors occur, it could not be recovered and the device had to be sent back to the customer service center. In this case, you have to flash a new ROM code.

Doesn't sound too good really. Maybe someone else here on the forums know what to do with this error :/
You did use the ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe and not the normal updater right? Can remember someone getting a similar error when using the wrong updater, but I'm not sure about that though...
edit: try doing a search on the prophet forums for "INVALID COMMAND" maybe there is a helpful post in there somewhere...
THANKS!! I was worried b/c i had the same problem today. I've been looking for so many threads abt this problem. Thanks for ur help guys!
same problem
so i have the same problem. I want to downgrade and it break at 95% invalid file. But now XDA is still alive. I can`t go into the bootloader but i tried this file: RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe
and now my Prophet is still running again. Hope i can help you. Good luck.

Error 260 when upgrading

First off, I have read every thread mentioning error 260, every wiki about upgrading, and have not been able to fix my problem.
I am trying to upgrade to Schap's newest 6.0 ROM, not the 6.1. I currently have the OEM 5.0 ROM that came on the device from AT&T. I can connect via activesync perfectly. No issues there at all. When I run the upgrade program, it gets all the way to the status bar showing 0% or 1%, then the phone and computer disconnect the activesync connection, the phone goes back to the today screen, and my computer shows error 260.
I have seen posts saying I need to install HardSPL. I tried that and get error 260 there also.
I have seen posts about installing JumpSPL, I tried that and it only locks the phone up. I must do a soft reset to bring it back to life.
I found the instructions on upgrading the ROM via the SD card. I followed those and renamed the .nbh file and copied it to the fat32 formatted sd card in the phone. Where do the rest of the files go??? The .nbh file cannot possibly contain the entire rom, right? The instructions leave that part out from what I can see.
Help!
u have the at&t OEM 5.0 rom?? are u sure u are in the right device forum?
and yes the nbh file contains the whole rom

Installing HardSPL is not optional...it is a requirement. This is what allows a non-factory ROM to be installed on the phone. If it's a Tilt, there have been all sorts of issues with HardSPL installing on different Tilt revisions (most of which have been fixed, I believe). Go directly to the stickies. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
Once you have HardSPL on your phone...DO NOT FLASH THE ROM YET. Go directly to the Wiki for the Tilt. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
Why? Because if you weren't aware that you absolutely positively MUST have HardSPL installed before trying to flash a ROM...you haven't read enough. Sorry if I sound like I'm being short with you...I'm really not. I'm just trying to keep you from bricking your phone.
Edit: oh...good catch XtreMe...didn't even register the 5.0 reference when I read that...perhaps a Hermes (or rather...Cingular 8525)?
ah ha! Wrong forum. I started in the Hermes thread, and through all my searching must have ended up in the Kaiser thread. Sorry! I will repost over there.
Happened to me a few times and some posts said to turn off the firewall.
After some testing I found a change which allowed a USB connection to my Kaiser.
Make sure your firewall allows the application "wcescomm.exe" to have full access via your firewall.
This applies to application based firewalls like McAfee. For port based firewalls you will need to find out the ports used for inbound and outbound comms.
That I cannot help with.
Hope that helps you.
Also you may need to run as either a superuser or administrator under Windows. I run my machine as a restricted user and I got the same error.

b. second?
c. etc.
Your message KINDA indicates that you flashed a ROM and had issues - so you THEN flash HARDSPL? was that successful?

OK - I do not think that you got the HARDSPL installed on your phone correctly - BECAUSE - I believe that it would say OLIPOF or JOCKY on it and it does not.
I have not seen the new HARDSPL 328 and 329 but it LOOKS like to me that you did not successfully get the HARDSPL on your phone.
Personally - I would scan the message boards for GSLEON3 (user name) and send him a private message - there are many others that can help you and he or others MAY come trolling by and take pity on you - but at the moment he is the one that helps people in your situation the most from what I have seen.
I would NOT continue to work on it myself as you can definitely mess your phone up permanently. Does your phone still go into boot loader mode? If so - can you flash the required HARDSPL onto your phone?
Find a message that GSLEON3 has left and then lik on his name and send him a private message - he is very nice - BUT - he is VERY busy - continue to be nice and he will most likely get you back and running.

Danny -
Deep cleansing breaths here ok?
1. personally - I would PUT BACK what ever you had on your phone and get it running again - trying at this point to get ot to go to a different ROM is not a good idea right at this minute.
2. 28 and 29 from what I read makes no difference - users try each one to see which one works better on THEIR flashed ROM.
3. What I would do is look for the HARDSPL that goes with what you had loaded to begin with - or the actual SPL that came with your original ROM and put that one back.
I would be stuck here because I have to use JUMPSPL on my phone because I get the white screen - but I THINK that (don't quote me because I do not do it this way) if you don't get the white screen you can just flash the HARDSPL to your phone without JUMPSPL (having to be able to copy something to your phone.
HOWEVER - if you cannot or do not know how to continue from reading the WIKI - you MUST request help from a professional - I have already recommended one. (GSLEON3)

Based on your current track record, I wouldn't suggest you use MTTY as you have a VERY HIGH probability of bricking your phone (ie: it won't ever be usable again).
so im fu--.
Can you get the phone into the bootloader mode? Turn the phone off (pull the battery if you have to) then press and hold the camera button while you turn the phone on. You should get to a tri-color screen (this is the boot loader). Now plug in the USB cord and see if it switches from saying Serial to USB. If so, you can try flashing AN OFFICIAL ROM THAT WAS MEANT FOR YOUR PHONE (ie: Don't try to put an offical AT&T rom on an Orange). When you run the RUU program it will tell you that you need to have ActiveSync working, but don't worry about that. If your phone in bootloader shows USB, you can continue on.
BUT AGAIN... You need the Official rom that was meant for your device. Since you are not HardSPL'd you have to do it this way.
If you don't understand any of that, or have questions, don't just try it hoping you get it right...
As stated previously, it would be well worth you time to get someone like GSLEON to assist if you can.

Cool. Glad that worked for you.... NOW, your next task is to read and understand ALL the steps before you try flashing a custom rom. HardSPL that sucker (but understand and follow EVERY step before you try that) and then you should be good to go...

i will try to do this after i will make some order it all of this.

Not to be mean but if you have red Wiki and looked at threads here and they "don't make sense to you". You really have no business flashing a rom. If you don't understand what you are doing sooner or later you will brick your phone from your lack of knowledge and it will be no ones fault but your own.
I am really surprised people were willing to repeat what has been typed out hundreds and hundreds of times on these forums.

Flash - What Went Wrong?

I've always fancied flashing my Kaiser (V1615) with a new ROM, but was always nervous because I wasn't sure of the process and didn't want to risk bricking the phone as well as all the effort needed to get everything back on it I needed. Well, a few days ago my old Kaiser met the floor and an untimely end. So I decided to take the risk and put a new ROM on it and decided on the latest Dutty WM6.1 ROM.
I read all about flashing on here and made as much sense of it as I could. Thing is, I'm very technical in general, but not very familiar with Windows Mobile or flashing. I found there was lots to read, but it was all written with an assumed level of knowledge and understanding of terminology. As a result I found it quite hard to understand. I took the plunge anyway and started, but things didn't work out as expected and I didn't understand why.
I'm not trying to be critical of all the work a lot of people have put into the documentation that is available online, it's just that when I originally approached this with zero flashing experience I found it difficult and confusing to understand. What I really needed was a concise and basic introduction to flashing. I've now been through the process and after re-reading the documentation it makes a lot more sense.
I worked out you need to run something called HardSPL before you could flash a new ROM. I'm still not sure what HardSPL does apart from CID unlock the device, but what does CID unlock mean?
I ran HardSPL v1 and it started ok, but then I ended up with a white screen. At this point I already wished I hadn't started, but no going back now. Is it known why some phones white screen? Turns out it's a common problem, so followed the instructions to recover. All was well again, but still with the original ROM.
I thought I'd be brave and stuck with it and this time tried JumpSPL1.56-KAIS instead of HardSPL as recommended on one of the tutorials. This went better and I ended up with the Tri-Color screen. I plugged my USB cable in and USB showed on screen.
Next step I thought was to flash a ROM onto the device. I ran the Dutty updater on my PC and all started ok, but when the update got to 18% I received a communication error. I tried to recover using the updater, but the same thing happened. At this point the phone wouldn't boot, so I was more than a little worried and wishing I hadn't started!
Found something that described several options for recovering from this problem. I decided to try and flash the device back to the original ROM from Vodafone. When I eventually found that ROM I ran JumpSPL again, got to the Tri-Color screen and ran the updater. This time the update completed successfully and the phone rebooted and was all working again.
I decided to leave the device as it was and started customising it myself. I'd still love to put a cooked ROM on there, especially if it helps with performance, but after the experience above I'm not very confident.
Can anyone tell me where or what went wrong? I'm going to get my old Kaiser repaired and want to try again on that phone.
My flashing routene (not ideal but it works for me)
1) run the first part of the Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer
2) after device reboots, hold camera button and restart to check SPL
3) Flash rom/radio of choice
4) Follow HardSPL v3.07, v3.28, v3.29 and v3.56 by JockyW 's second guide "If you have problems with the above process, try this:" and flash my 3.XX SPL of choice.
Sam
Wow, I need a cuppa now
I'll go through 1 at a time... (and Sam has answered some questions already)
-CID unlock means that when the phone is loading a new device into the ROM the Carrier ID check is removed, each Mobile phone carrier has a different CID in thier OS ROMs. Unlocked means you can flash a OS ROM from any carrier or a cooked OS ROM from this site.
-The Jump SPL should only be used for replacing the SPL. Do not flash anything other than SPL's when at the Jump SPL (or SSPL). OS and Radio ROMs should be flashed from either in Windows Or By Manually Entering the Bootloaders. More info on SPL's is here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions?
-Have a look at flashing from SD Card to avoid communication problems, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserSDFlash
-The most clear instructions can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Hope this helps.
Dave
Thanks for the advice, but this is what I normally encounter when I read something on here, which is advice which no doubt makes perfect sense to the author or others experienced in flashing, but usually raises more questions than it answers in my head.
For example;
1) run the first part of the Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer
Click to collapse
What do you mean by the "first part"? The thread you've linked to doesnt really explain what I'm downloading and doing.
2) after device reboots, hold camera button and restart to check SPL
Click to collapse
Ok. I get this assuming you mean the device will reboot automatically and I restart it to check the SPL version that gets shown on the boot screen, but why do I need to do this?
3) Flash rom/radio of choice
Click to collapse
So at this point I can simply plug my device into my PC and run the ROM updater I've downloaded. Working out what rom/radio version to download is a minefield in its own right.
4) Follow HardSPL v3.07, v3.28, v3.29 and v3.56 by JockyW 's second guide "If you have problems with the above process, try this:" and flash my 3.XX SPL of choice.

I thought HardSPL needed to be run before I flashed? Also, why the different versions? Which one do I choose?
BTW, not trying to moan about everything, just posting my experiences to find out where I went wrong, but also highlight some issues hopefully other flashing newbies can relate to and authors of tutorials can draw some useful feedback from.
Only one question, do I need to CID Unlock before using Jump and HardSpl or, the Hardspl does the Supercid ?
I'm not referring about SIM since I don't care, for now
With WM6.1 - Oficiall HTC ROM
Thanks
Thanks for that one dave, on reflection i kinda missed the whole point of the thread, and as for the majority of the stuff you posted i didnt undertand that to begin with.
Also, DaveTME, if you are wanting to flash a custom rom to youre kaiser. from my experiance and from the number of times ive seen this happen. i advise against asking for reccomendations(sp?) (not saying you will but its worth saying) try a few roms out and decide from there.
Also another thing to note. if you flash to WM6.1 remember to use a 3.xx spl otherwise you'll encounter a few problems with youre device.
Sam
What do you mean by the "first part"? The thread you've linked to doesnt really explain what I'm downloading and doing.

download the Kaiser unlocker and run the first stage of it, the program is in the linked thread.
Ok. I get this assuming you mean the device will reboot automatically and I restart it to check the SPL version that gets shown on the boot screen, but why do I need to do this?

No, after the device reboots, youre given youre Rom, Protocol and Radio. if you hold the camera button and reset you'll get youre SPL displayed, youre looking for 1.01 olinex to be shown
So at this point I can simply plug my device into my PC and run the ROM updater I've downloaded. Working out what rom/radio version to download is a minefield in its own right.

1) Yes, just run the RUU with youre chosen rom and thats it
2) its not a minefield, just make a decision on what rom you like and flash it. theres nothing to stop you flashing another one.

The 1.01 SPL will allow you to flash a cutom rom. following that you need a 3.xx SPL as they are designed for windows mobile 6.1. as for yure decision. i use 3.29, yet other users have had better sucess with 3.56. Most rom chefs will say which SPL they reccomend anyway with their rom.
-CID unlock means that when the phone is loading a new device into the ROM the Carrier ID check is removed, each Mobile phone carrier has a different CID in thier OS ROMs. Unlocked means you can flash a OS ROM from any carrier or a cooked OS ROM from this site.

Great. Thanks for that. Makes perfect sense now
-The Jump SPL should only be used for replacing the SPL.

Ok. I think you mean that the SPL is a component on the device? What is the difference between HardSPL and JumpSPL?
-Have a look at flashing from SD Card to avoid communication problems, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserSDFlash
-The most clear instructions can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Hope this helps.

Read the "SPL Questions" Wiki Page, it is all there and fairly clear.

New to windows mobile, would appreciate help.

Hi everyone, I have recently bought a htc touch pro from polish orange provider. I have browsed dozens of topic, trying to make my windows mobile 6.1 life more satisfying, but I have few questions to ask.
1. What does Hard-Spl do ? And can I hard-spl my phone ?
2. To install advanced config, do I have to jailbreak my windows, or do anything to install it ? I don't want to end up with useless phone
3. When I try to upgrade my default opera browser to the newest build, the instlaler cannot uninstall previous version of opera, neither can I because it is not listed in add/remove programs menu. And, if I ignore the warning, I get an error in installling the newest build, but somehow I have 2 opera mobiles listed in programs menu.
Thanks in advance, r4ster.

I probably can't answer your questions like a pro, but I had a few experience that I can share with you.
1. I don't know what Hard-SPL do, but I guess it's like jailbreak for Windows Mobile device. If you want to flash to a new custom Rom, you need to Hard-SPL it first (don't need to do this if you flash back to the original ROM). And yes, Hard-SPL your device
2. Jailbreak is only a term to unlock your iphone... With a Win Device, you don't need to unlock anything to be able to download and install other software. This is the beautiful part of a Window mobile.
3. Definitively can't help you here... but I know that plenty of thread has been posted for this matter... just do a quick search. However, I strongly suggest (with no responsibility) you to "Hard-SPL" and "CID unlock" your device and flash it to a new ROM. It will make your phone faster and much cleaner. Also, you'll get your new Opera install.
The question now is, which ROM
I suggest NATF's v2.3, but he'll be releasing a v3 today or so. Don't flash to it right away... just flash to v2.3 first and see if v3 is stable or not by reading people posts.
Flashing is not as hard as people claim... just read and be very carefully before you do it. Don't skip any step. The first time is stressful, but after that it's just a daily burger.

you have to hard-spl first before Flashing any Rom. Please read those sticky carefully. I do not take any responsibility of what you're doing.
This is what I did (it works for me without any problem)
0- I backup everything I need with PPCPimbackup and outlook
1- I HARD-SPL my device
2- I CID unlock my device
3- Flash to NATF's v2.3 ROM, hard-reset my device
4- Flash new Radio (this step is optional... and to find the best one, you have to test one by one.)
5- Restore my backup
6- Re-install extra software that I need.
Like I mention earlier, these steps work for me, and there are big chance that it will work for you as well... but I do not take any responsibility. Before you Flash to any ROM, HARD-SPL your device. and after flashing your ROM, HARD-RESET it.

Well, first I hope that it doesn't go wrong. And second, I'm pretty sure you can stand the temptation of flashing to a new ROM, so you'll probably going to do it very soon. But Third, So far I haven't seen any thread that someone can unbrick their Touch Pro after a bad flash (he/she didn't Hard-spl before flashing, that's why)... However, there is a way to do it with the Kaiser... so don't lose hope there.
Just READ everything carefully, you have a 99.5% successful rate if you do. I would say that the 0.5% is just your bad luck (example Computer stop working during the flash... but that's just pure bad luck and you can't blame anyone but God)
