Dust!? - Touch Cruise General

Hello!
I'm owner of the TC since about 1 month.
Actually I'm pretty happy with my device, even if there are some lacks.
But about a week ago I noticed dust under the display! It's in the bottom left corner! At the moment i only see it if the sun shines directly to the display. I'm afraid and also sure that it is just a matter of time, until there is more dust.
I carry the phone in my trouser pocket, and I guess this might be the reason. But I don't know.
In my opinion this is a huge lack of the quality of this device!
What do you think? Anybody with the same problem?
Thanks!

do you have a screen protector on? hopefully if you can find one that can fit the whole screen so mgiht help block the dust.
I hate the dust too!
Or buy a simple case for it that might help also (think fabric or leather one).
I buy this one.

Have EXACTLY the same problem with Orbit 2!

Sorry I didnt see ur post earlier!

i had the same problem on htc touch cruise so i sold it and got the asus p750 and this phone had the dust already built under the screen.
i just ordered IPAQ 612 online, and i really hope nothing is wrong with this unit.

I have mine since February, and I don't have any dust related problems...

Dirt INSIDE the screen

Hi guys,
Well it seems a real disappointment, but my Orbit 2 has gathered some dirt inside (I guess below outer touch surface and inner screen). Is there some way to get rid of it, can we disassemble the fornt cover in a simple way to do this?
ps: mind you its got nothing to do with a screen protector, the dust is inside the upper surface. If I got it after 1 month of use, I'm pretty sure all other owners will have similar problems!
Or you have a deffective unit in which the front protector (hardware, not accessory) was not stuck firmly enough, and let some dust inside...
I would strongly advise to NOT open the device, go back to your reseller. Most lower-tech devices can be opened, but I would really discrouage you to open this one... Much is at stake, unless you have plenty of money, but then you would have bought another one already

Thanks for the reponse. But is this an un-heard-of problem for HTC devices? Same thing happened with my Nokia mobile, there was not much help except cleaning it, and it was a design flaw. For the case of HTC I guess it wont come under warranty!
It was definitely an inherent problem with Nokia phones, and with other manufacturers' phones, where you could "snap off" the fascia in order to replace it with an painted one. Dust easily made its way under the screen cover and I was forever trying to clean it off and then snap the case back together before any new dust managed to settle!
The Touch Cruise doesn't have such a design, and taking the front off to clean underneath the fascia would be a very risky and skilled job. I second the recommendation to not tackle this yourself but to take it back to where you bought the phone from and see what they will do about it.

Sir_Terry,
It is too late now, you should have bought a Screen Protector as everyone does and you would have saved the trouble!!!
OMG how helpful are you!
Sir_Terry, if you're up to fitting it you can buy a new touch screen: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17042.htm
I'm no expert, but I believe this would be, or include the top layer that you've managed to scratch.
Search google on how to repair a scratched CD with a fresh banana. Unless your screen is scratched bad enough to be felt. I'd recommend a screen protector right after you fix it. Good luck and report back!
i have the same problem.. took me a while to understand how did it get scratched..
it was the original stylus i got with the phone
considering to get this from brando: ($44 and free shipment)
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03449
anyone tried that?
i'm sure i've written this before...
Get some acrylic polish and a soft cloth, the polish works like t-cut (and most polishes), it may take some time, but u can get scratches out with that.
used it on one of my old HTC phones.
Also works on the backs of Diamonds
Thank you guys, but there is no cover, such as Nokia earlier in 3210 or so?
no, it has a digitiser (on top, the bit you press) which you can usually get seperatly, i got one for £7 on eBay for a HTC Artemis. and then under this is the LCD.
I presume this is the setup, as it is the way every other HTC device is.

Glass-Touchscreen phones useless for EDC?

On every page of this forum you have at least 1 post about a cracked screen of an Iphone/HTC and all those glass touchscreen devices.
It is my observation that these phones aren't made to be carried in a pocket and used every day, they are more like laptops that must sit in a well protected bag, that is also inside a bigger bag, that is in the back of the truck.
Ebay is full of replacement parts for all various phones because this is a well known problem.
The screen cracking, statistically, is just a matter of WHEN, not if.
It's going to drop sometime.
I have come to this observation after researching the purchase of a new HTC HD2 which is absolutely amazing in it's features and looks, but I am not going to spend any money on something that is going to break when I drop it.
So what do you think ? Do you agree with the above ?
Does anyone here have a glass-phone for over 2 years without it snapping ? (2g/3g iphoners ? )
How is the HTC HD2 in resisting drops , how many times have you dropped yours ?
I have to disagree with the statement. A glass touchscreen phone is made like any other phone, to have in your pocket. The touchscreen is just sencetive, if you are somebody who doesn't watch after your phone. Then it might happen, but if you are carefull with your stuff then the chance is like 5%. You might be unlucky once, if you don't watch out and hit a corner of a table ... but you know "**** happens".
I've got a HD2 myself and the screen is still fine. Ive got it since November 2009 (the first release) and when I bought it i had a insurence on the phone. You know just in case it might happen, you never know when you first get a phone and you have to get used to it. But now after 8 months i canceled the insurence for the phone (yearly contract).
I've dropped the HD2 a couple times, 2 times in pouche, or whatever it's called (that's been delivered with the HD2). And a few tiem on a carpet, from 1 meter. It was fine. Also i hit a corner of a table once (pretty hard), but i was lucky i guess. It didn't break. So you just have to be unlucky for one time to break it. But that's with all the phones. If you buy one of 100$ with a hardware keyboard, then it might break aswell .. you never know.
I'll gladly trade the chance that it might crack from a drop for the scratch resistance. I could never apply screen protectors well.....
Why, is the HD2 especially scratch resistant ?
How come ? It is an actual feature in the HD2?

The glass used in the HD2 is treated to make it even harder, and therefore much more resistant to scratches. I believe it's hardened with a carbon-based substance (tho I could be wrong on that one), but either way it's harder than most materials you're likely to come across in normal daily use. It's not impossible to scratch it, just very difficult
how about the HTC desire? is it resistant too?

[Q] Dust under the screen!

Love the phone, but the dust is really annoying me. I have 3 specks which are really noticeable when i'm outside.
I ordered it online to be delivered instore. Has anyone else been able to exchange a phone instore if they ordered online with Vodafone?
Don't think I can be arsed to arrange a return only to have the same problem or worse. I would rather exchange the handset instore so I can check it before I leave.
Sorry to put a downer on things, but it's really bugging me now
That's why I never pre order, i rather buy it from tmobile corporate store so i can check everything.

Wow HTC phones still have this problem? My Nexus One and MT4G eventually got dust under the screen and it annoyed me to no end... like it or not dust will eventually find its way in if there's a gap.
Samsung fuses the screen to the glass so no dust can get in but it makes repairs more costly (since you have to replace both at the same time, but warranty should handle that).
hmm this is not good. Please report more cases of this. I returned my G2X because of this very reason. 2/4 of the units i had, had this issue.

actually from what i know, the desire s and incredible s are also with dust in some of them. so i think maybe u have to accept it though its annoying. eventually the dust will be there.
If I cant get it replaced instore, I will most probably stay with my Orange contract and upgrade to the Samsung GS2 next month. Will work out cheaper too.
I am torn though as the Sensation is a lovely piece of kit.

Thats not acceptable for me unfortunately. I had an iPhone with dust underneath which I got swapped out and it has been dust free since
still lucky
under my incredibles screen i found a rat
what happened to HTC's amazing build quality??
Hi folks. Just registered to let you know that I also seem to have dust under the screen of my HTC Sensation.
There seems to be just one speck, but it is very noticeable. On white backgrounds it nearly looks like a black apostrophe or comma. On colours such as the light blue part of the default wallpaper it is a bit less so, but still plain enough to be seen on pretty much any colour, except black or really dark shades, if one looks a bit closer.
Mind you I am a little bit less upset than initially, when I though it was a bunch of dead pixels in the LCD. I only figured that it was trapped dust, when I inspected it holding a very bright LED light close to the location of the speck while the screen was auto-locked/gone to sleep. Then I tried while powered off. I assume that on a phone that's off, dead pixels don't stand out from other pixels under bright light, hence my conclusion that it must be dust.
My phone was bought from Vodafone's (Ireland) online store.
Same problem here.
Same dust problem here .I just noticed it and my phone is beeing used for 3 weeks.
I have just had my Sensation replaced which managed to get dust underneath the screen as it was quite visible and really annoying as I initially thought it was a dead pixel. My new sensation which I recieved this Monday has also already managed to get specks of dust under the screen. Athough these are not as visible I guess it is a common problem and will have to just deal with it !!!
unfortunately I too have dust under my screen.
having been using it for 3 weeks , I don't have the dust problem as yet, but for those who have dust inside the screen, where the dust goes in ? (e.g. from the headphone jack, usb charge port, etc) just wonder if we know where it get in, any precaution we may take.
Just noticed dust under mine. Never got dust in my G2 and i had that thing way longer than Ive hhad this.
I've got the same problem. After about an hour of use I noticed it, although it could have been there when I got it. It's not too noticeable as I've put on a screen protector and that's got a speck or two under it because I suck at putting those on.
The dust has come in from the right hand side about 1cm up, so not near any ports.
Not sure that it bothers me enough to take it back, but if more appears, I may be.
Having the same problem with HTC Sensation 4g - Dust under the screen
I have the HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile and I am having the same problem. It started with a speck, then it got gradually worse. I have only had the phone about 6 weeks, but it's bugging me to no end.
This is a known manufacturing defect guys. There's a whole nother thread about it in general section. Htc knows about it and if you contact them they will replace it, including sending a prepaid slip with it for the return is the defective unit.
The defect is some sort of crack between the digitizer and the screen on the right side just above the midpoint that let's in lint and dust and junk....

Just got off the phone with tmobile, told them I had dust under my screen, they asked if I dropped it in water, idk what water and dust have in common but, there sending me a new device with express shipping so ill get it tomorrow. And they said "its a known defect and HTC has since fixed it and the new sensations they are sending out won't have this problem." Idk how true that statement is but one can only hope.

I’m on my third Sensation the current device has been back twice, and I’m still waiting on its return...
Originally returned 25th July – Eventually got it back 9th August. Less than a week later I had to return it for the same dust fault. It’s now been 15 days and there’s little or no news on its return.
By the looks of it they are replacing the digitiser and LCD, as they did in the first instance...
If this is a known problem to HTC they sure as hell are taking me for a ride.

Quality Problem - "Dirty Corners" - No Satement from HTC !!!

Wondering why our HTC is so dirty, although brought to us by our Mother to clean ???
Well, that's no dirt, likely, but it's loosing the color, so you can't clean the corner's.
At the moment, the official HTC facebook support page is the best place to change our phone. So far, there is still no statement from HTC about this issue. There are more and more people worldwide with the same "dirty corner" problem, because it's painted the color only on the black cover comes to the fore. Some people report the support will tell you to change to a black 8X, because they have no problems (without colour, it'ts logic).

I've tried to read this a couple times and don't fully understand what you are telling us. Is there a quality control issue with the screens? Certain models? Can you post pictures and/or links to sites? I just ordered the red Verizon 8x...
I don't mean the screen, i mean the cover that is loosing the color. HTC didn't use colored Polycarbonate (like Nokia/Lumia920), they painted the black cover to blue with a rough surface.
The yellow and red 8X should not have this issue (this ones have a smooth surface), users suspect that the rough surface causes the Difficulties.

Soft coating is rubbing off, I guess you should get a repair from HTC or exchange from the store you bought it from
That's right, i wrote to HTC Facebook (Germany), they gave me the support phone number ( +49 692 222 7334) and they will change the cover when i send the 8X in. I hope to get a limelight yellow one ..................i'm too busy at the moment, to call the support

I don't think the coating is peeling off. Might be staining instead, hard to say. Here is a picture from another forum of someone who dropped it. It's clearly blue all the way through.

It`s peeling of, sure !!! The HTC Support knows the problem. First "Pre Released" Phones for Developers had the same problem. HTC said that this issue concerns just the "Pre-released" Phones, but it did not.
I think, it depends from what charge the cover is made. I'm not blind and i know how to clean........

Is your phone HW Rev 0001, 0002, or 0003? It should be in the About screen in Settings.
HW Rev: 0002 ...............

It seems that the soft coat is white and it's getting stained easily
Does this issue happen to the black version?
No issues with mine
Been using mine for roughly.. 6 months..
Mine is still in perfect condition.. maybe you should take better care of your phone
Glad to know it's just not my phone. I have a T-Mobile branded 8x with Rev 3 hardware. The rubber coating is peeling off of one of the corners. I have owned it for about 6 weeks now. I've never dropped it. it just lives in my jeans pocket with no keys or anything else in there. I did put an invisible shield on the front and back when I first got it, but it didn't quite cover the corner where it is now peeling. I guess I will try to send it in? Maybe they will give me one with Wireless charging!?!
HTC 8X Black
Have exact same problem with the corner...bottom right hand in my case on a black 8X.
At first I thought it was where I had changed the case that my phone lives in.
I have an armoured (ballistic) case that I use for work, as I work in construction it was important for me to protect my investment. I also have a flip case, used only for when out with friends for the pose value, and a soft gel case in red for every day use at home. SO....imagine my surprise when on evening I noticed the corner appeared to be peeling. I was gutted. Having spent £300 on the phone in sale, and been super careful to ensure that it is always protected, this little bugbear is almost unbearable. Shame on you HTC.
Perhaps anyone returning their HTC 8X could let the rest of us know how it turns out.
