Available Storage: 0.82 MB - HTC Tornado

i installed vjgrace v3.7 on my qtek 8310 including all applications.
after playing around with google maps i get an error that there is insufficient storage available. i deleted one file, so now i have 0.82mb available and the phone works again.
how can i free more storage?
btw: i have installed all applications on the sd-card.

if i reset google maps i have 2.4 mb available....

hmmm... sounds terrible
expected value for Your ROM just after hard reset is afaik 19.97 MB...
if apps are on SD card...
- check IE cache...
- a lot of e-mails?
- a lot of mms?
- photo/video stored in device?
- ringtones stored in device?
- java midlets? no, that's impossible
- 'forgotten' cabs?
maybe U should look manually (using PC would be probably fastest way) where - except /Windows - U got a lot of files or large file/files?

how to clear most cab files from ExtRom on MDA compact

I own a MDA compact with 64MB ROM and 64MB RAM + 512MB San Disk SD
I would like to receive some suggestions about how to increase RAM and ROM on my MDA compact: after hard reset I see that, in fact, the available RAM for programs and storage is much less than 64MB, in fact it is around 40MB.
I guess the culprits are those cabs and installation files which are inevitably installed after hard reset from Ext-Rom.
I would like to know how to increase the available ROM+RAM after Hard Reset.
ALso I would like to know if it is possible (and how) to modify the external ROM and get rid of most NOT useful programms.
These following programs are NOT useful to me:
- album
- email whiz
- MSN messenger
- photo contacts
- Midlet manager
- Pictures
- Windows Media
- Zip
- xBackup
- games (both of them)
Thanks in advance for your kind help and advice
Replies to my personal email are welcomed.

this is easy, do a hard reset, and then direcly afther aligning the screen do a soft reset windows will be installed but no other programs like (in my case) msn messenger t-mobile crap etc.
57.41MB after soft reset, remains as free memory
Thanks. I have done as you recommend.
1.
I noted that the remaining storage + program memory is 57.41MB, not 64MB. Why?
2.
Also I have noted that WITHOUT PERFORMING SOFT RESET all the auxiliary unwanted programs are installed and, SURPRISE, at the end, the free memory is still THE SAME, 57.41MB !? Why is that? It should be less, say 50MB
Thanks and waiting

The remaining 6.5MB are used by system and not available to user.

57.41MB is the size of memory installed.
The "blue bar" in memory is the memory available. The "white" portion is the memory used.
For example I have:
Storage: Allocated 21.18 - In use 11.83 - Free 9.35
Program: Allocated 36.24 - In use 14.63 - Free 21.61
So I have 26.46MB Used and 30.96 Free.
If I install more programs in main memory I will find less free space.

Upgrading ... is it really Necessary.

Guyz, i've been using my imate JAM for about 3 weeks now. havent had any problems with it. Running preety smooth it is. but i occasionally had to soft reset it because it got hung up on something (maybe it was processing something or ..) Anyways, i've read loads about this Upgrading of ROMS. tell me if it is really necessary. And if it really helps to upgrade, WHICH ROM VERSION is the best and STABLE. Please Help me.
Well it's not necessary to update the rom, don't know your version but it can't be very old, isn't it?
Check your memory to see whether it is running low on ram, start -> settings -> system -> memory -> main (1st tab). The right side shows the ram occupied by files on your device, the left side shows the ram occupied by running programs. A magician only got 64MB of ram shared by running programs & installed programs. & installing apps. to the default location decreases that amout rapidly. Also take a look on the 3rd tab (running programs), pushing the x button doesn't close programs it minimizes them. You can free up ram by closing them manually or by installing app like vjokbut (very small), spb pocket plus, battry bar & others.
If your system is constantly running low on memory & you got a lot of apps. installed in the default location, consider doing a hard-reset & start all over again installing apps to either SD or internal Storage folder. To choose where cab-files should install you can use cabinstl very handy small tool. & don't forget to delete the Internet Explorer once in a while by hand in \windows\temporary internet files or have eg memmaid do it & You can even store the cache on SD if you like with this pogram.
If this all doesn't help you can try BIG Storage. With this you enlarge the internal Storage folder from 7 to 27MB. Howto's on the board & in the wiki.
Regards, M
Is it not the other way around, the right side (Program) shows the running programs and the left side (Storage) is for installed programs? I usually check my memory after starting a newly installed program just to see how much ram it consumes and it's the right side that decreases in value.
Yes you're correct I messed up. The right side (Program) shows the RAM consumed by running programs and the left side (Storage) is for installed programs & other features in the \Windows folder.
Excuse me pls,
M
no problem man. nobody is perfect.

Your rom is OK & upgrade really NOT necessary. BS is nice to install apps on, no need. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

[solved] Why do certain Application not install on Storage Card?

i had a problem with available storage being very low.
i installed all applications to the storage card. but now, checking because of the low storage, i see that
- acrobate reader
- google maps
do install on the device. but i choose to install to the storage card...
why is this and what can i do against it?
Google maps cache is stored in your main memory, clear it
@karhoe, thanks for your reply
there is an application called MobileAppMover (http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm) which allows to change all registry entries of a certain application to be changed to another path.
so if you want google maps or adobe reader to be installed on the storage card and free some mb of device storage, follow this procedure:
install application to device
use MobileAppMover to change path (e.g. from \Program Files to \Storage Card\Program Files)
move directory \Program Files\your application to \Storage Card\Program Files\ using Total Commander
edit the *.lnk file in the \Windows\Start Menu with Total Commander
done
it worked for me with google maps (only the cache stays on the device, this can be cleared using google maps options) and adobe reader!
now my device rocks again with over 6mb available storage, before it was less than 1mb!
btw: there used to be tools linke cabinstl and cab installer, but since wm5 the don't work anymore!
does this work with the Windows Live Messenger on WM6 ( Tornado ) ?

ROM Size and notifications

Hello guys,
Yesterday it seemed that I ran out of memory!
How is this possible? My windows mobile 6 directory is according to resco explorer 246Mb!!!! from the 321.2Mb total ROM.
When I first had the device, still clean, I had a lot more diskspace ROM wise. I think after a hard reset I will get my 200Mb free ROM space back, but I don't want to do that and having to re-install all my apps and contacts.
Is there a way to "clean" the ROM section and delete all unnessesary files?
I also have 1011 files that look like this: "2639d3f7_manila", "4b0d92a1_manila" etc...
What are these files and can they be removed? Which files can I delete to make more ROM-space? Where are all the Temporary Internet Files and Temp files and Youtube cache directories which can be cleaned?
What is a good program to clean ROM's without messing up the registry?
Please help me free up ROM space !
Current statistics:
ROM:
Total: 321.18 Mb
Used: 293.26 Mb (from which the windows directory is 246 Mb!)
Free: 27.92 Mb
RAM: (or programs..)
Total: 200.99 Mb
Used: 72.95 Mb
Free: 128.04 Mb
Micro-SD: 8 Gb
Used: 7375.20 Mb
Free: 396.10 Mb
Device: Touch Pro with original ROM: 1.90.404.1 NLD
Programs Installed:
Google Maps (pre-installed)
JS advanced config tool (ROM)
Resco Explorer (SD) (Incl. resco registry and ftp add-in)
Macromedia Flash Player ActiveX (ROM) (Adobe flash for Mobile)
Flashlight (SD)
MS VB Runtimes for PPC (ROM)
PPCSoft psShutXP (SD)
CoreCodec CorePlayer 1.2.5 (SD)
Sushi's TF3D Config (ROM)
DivX Player (SD)
Easyhelper backup (ROM)
SKKV Gsen (ROM)
Aidem Pocket Painter (SD)
LingvoSoft Dictionary (SD, but makes a temp?-map in ROM)
SimpleAct Quickmark (SD)
Pocket RAR (SD)
TCPMP Media Player (SD)
MS .Net CF 3.5 (SD)
TOMTOM navigator 7 (SD)
And lots of games all installed on SD card
And Lots of TT maps all installed on SD card
Basically what I did was large programs installed on SD, and only small system-dependent programs installed on ROM.
Please help me free up ROM space !

Doesn't anybody have an idea?
Oh, and I forgot to write down my notification problem.
When I receive a message confirmation sms after sending a sms message it used to show an icon on top and a balloon on the bottom. Now it only shows the icon at the top, but I have to press the icon to reveal the bottom balloon.
How can I get this balloon back?

Try to make a temp clean with this app and see if this helps you....
Cheers
the manila files are a good question. with each change, it seems like you get another copy of the file created. meaning I currently have three 26948339_manila files. one is the original naming convention, one ends in "_original", and the other ends in "_disabledtabs". surely those can be deleted (though too skerd to try).
thoughts anyone on keeping the rom clean?
thanks jcespi2005, your program cleartemp.cab works excellent, but...
it only freed 6 mb of storage space. (internal)
I'm still convinced there are files stored unnessesary because windows mobile 6 just can't have grown to over 260+ mb.
I think i'll just hard reset and install my apps again.
Anybody have any ideas how to backup contacts (incl. pics), agenda and sms messages?
cheers

Installing to Storage Card, Device getting full!

I always install to my storage card but it seems that no matter what i do, my device memory keeps filling up! I ran critically low to 785 KB on a HTC Kaiser. i noticed that the programs put things in /Program Files on my device and on /Storage Card/Program Files
Questions!
In the memory app located in settings it says under the main tab that there is "Storage" and "Program". My "Storage" keeps getting full while my "program" has 39.31 MB free. What is the difference?
Can I simply place all the /program files folders over to my /storage card/program files folder and fix shortcuts or does the programs require to take space on my device itself?
I have NO pictures or videos saved on my device, only storage card, and save all attachments/etc to my storage card aswell. I have reflashed and ran memmaid and no use...
I have tried copying the program files folder over to my storage card. Have 40MB free now but all sorts of broken shortcuts. I have turned off "Shortcut To" in windows via a registry key but when I create shortcuts on the device the pesky "Shortcut to" is still showing. I have decided to flash to the lastest rom and let SAMACHI handle my cab installs...
Other Ideas:
Emails:
I sync my Hermes with a huge Outlook personal folder with lots of emails, tasks and notes. By default, email "bodies" are stored as binary files (*.mpb) in the \Windows\Messaging folder (may vary?). This folder can grow in size up to 10 - 15 MB depending on the number of emails. So in my case it wasn't enough to move the attachments to the Storage Card, I also had to move the emails "bodies" to the Storage Card. You can do this by moving the folder to the Storage Card AND changing the registry as explained in the WIKI (Change the location of email and attachments) to point the new folder location. BUT PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP OF EMAILS AND ATTACHMENTS IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS. Windows stores email headers separate from email "bodies" so if you move the "bodies" and the registry points to the wrong location, you might get empty emails and loose all data permanently if you sync. BE CAREFUL...Opera 9.5:
If you use Opera 9.5, you will loose another 10 - 12 MB in the \Application Data\Opera9 folder (may vary depending on opera version). In that case is better to run Opera from the Storage Card and tweak it so that its cache is also in the card.Themes:
Some custom made themes are in the 100 - 500 KB range and if you have many themes in the \Windows folder it can take a couple of megs of storage space. I moved all my themes to the card and keep only the one I use in the \Windows folder.
You could add more system memory by using a rom that has Ramdisk in it. In case you are not familiar, Ramdisk is a feature that basically uses Program memory as storage memory. It is similar to wm2003 and earlier, with the difference that you cannot manually allocate it. It has to be a hex edit in the rom itself. Now, regarding your question... program memory refers to the ram that is allocated for program use (as its name specifies). Basically, the more programs you have running, the lower this number gets. This is the memory resource of your device. Storage memory acts as your "hard drive", where you will place all your stuff (installation programs, pics, etc) provided that you do not send it to your storage card.
A lot of programs will install to device memory whether you instruct them to go in memory or not. Now, it should be perfectly possible to put the programs in the card as long as you rework the shortcuts...
I don't know which GPS program you are using (if any). But if you are, make sure that it is not downloading data into your device directly (things like maps, POIs, etc).
Try the first part of my post though. That might help you some.
Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend doing so though, you want all the ram you can get.... less ram equals less speed. If you have other space (such as your storage card) then use that.
I reccomend one of garmins rom, they usually come loaded with extra space (dk4 comes with like 110mb)
Certain programs have to be installed to the main memory, but if you install to the storage card.... you should only lose a couple kb to shortcuts and such...... something isn't adding up.
PS: The difference between storage and program:
Storage= Hard drive memory
Program= RAM memory
PSS: There is a program called clear temp you may want to try, it gets rid of alot of you temp files for you.
After flashing my device and reinstalling everything to the storage card, I have came to the conclusion that some programs install to the device anyway even if you select Install to Storage Card. I went from 110MB free down to 78mb, all in the program files folder! Time to be moving these and fixing shortcuts!
