Waiting for Netfront Browser v3.5 - General Topics

Im currently using OperaMini 4 due to is pan/zoom functionality and general rendering speed. However due to it being Java it has some limitations.
So Im on the lookout for a next-gen native Windows Mobile Browser.
Netfront v3.5 looks promising (dont know if it is available to test yet);

I know the Opera is also working on their next version of Opera Mobile with some similar features.

EDIT:
You can only download a beta version for Netfront v3.4 (expires Feb 29,2008)
Get it here;
http://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/browser/34_wm_tp.html

Not even 3.4 is finalized as yet - let alone 3.5.
Frankly, I don't expect much of the new NetFront version(s). Opera Mini, Mobile and, at times, IEM with a decent plug-in (like PIEPlus) are far more flexible and usable in general.

Ive been playing with v3.4 - but am not very impressed and Ive gone back to Opera Mini. Its not as fast or as easy to navigate. I did like the Visual Bookmarks (similar to Piscal bookmarks) which automatically link to your IE favorites.
Seeing the preview viedo for the next version v3.5 it seems smoother to navigate and pan/zoom. Also the speed seems better with the Optimization/Compression technology they are using.
So I will wait for v3.5 before deciding to switch from Opera Mini.....

Seeing is believing... and, let's not forget it's geography-dependent. For example, for a Chinese users with very slow international connections, Opera Mini might be a very bad choice. For a European or an American, it's the best.
If Access' compression server will only be situated in Japan, I don't think it'll be able to beat Opera Mini in terms of speed - at least not for European and US users.

opera vs opera mini

is it just me or does opera browser (the one u buy) suck really bad? does it completely miss the zoom functionality that opera mini has????
am I missing something?
I would agree. I had a little play with Opera 9.5 beta but it was not as intuative as OperaMini. Certainly it did not have the full zoom out feature that makes OperaMini a great browser.
Regards
opera mini rocks ... opera mobile sucks .. it would be nice if they had a setting where i could define default zoom so i don't have to zoom in 100 times to get the text size that is good for me ...
hands down opera mini is better.
okay so im not crazy... I just don't understand why they wouldn't include the full page zoom functionality in their retail app... that's really the only reason to go outside of PIE anyways..
only problem with opera mini is that it sits in java and doesn't have the integration abilities that opera browser does but these nifty scripts people have created are making that more seamless... Opera really needs to get on the ball and make opera browser intriguing.
type opera:config in the address bar to fine tune the zoom options
make sure you read my past Opera Mini-related articles, where I thoroughly compared the two browsers.

Nope haven't seen that one... search for opera mini is like finding a needle in a haystack though. Got a friendly link?
Also... on the post about running opera:config in the address bar... does that give you access to some additional options or something? I don't have opera installed anymore atm to test.. does this enable the zoom/out/in functionality like opera mini or something?

Yes you get taken to the advanced options page where you can play with zoom above other things
i guess u guys were referring to the new 9.5 beta... i was referring to the version they have avail on their website.. 8.65 or something? which clearly is nothing compared to this newer version...
i installed the 9 beta and it does seem much better... will be a great release once it goes live.

SkyFire vs. Opera vs. Deepfish

Just out of curiosity, I'm acustomed to PIE as that is what my Excalibur came with, but slowely I'm getting sick of it and was wondering which one is the best overall browser and why.
I've been experimenting with Deepfish and I love it, the speed is blazing fast but as it is an Alpha version it lacks support and features.
So I'm left with either Skyfire or Opera Mini. Which Way to go?
I´m sure you already checked out this excellent post.....

They each have there good and bad points. Can you make a "All of the above" choice?
1) Yes I looked at the above link, BUT, there are thousonds of spec sheets, but what really matters is the actual user experience and how many people use what.
I haven't used Opera Mobile but I tried Opera mini and maybe because I was new at it and using an unfamiliar interface it didn't seem all that good at the time. Deepfish is awesome but no java. SkyFire has a lot of other drawbacks but am not completely familiar with either. I played with my friends iPhone today (again) and I really love the browser, the rest of the phone is just average und for business just not usable. The browser seems to know how much to zoom into; the connection seems a lot faster than on my dash even though my friends line only ran at 166 kbps, whereas I ran 133 kbps from the same location (from dslreports.com speedtest). I think there is no Java support on the iPhone browser either (might be wrong).
2) I don't want to make all of the above because once you get on the internet you go on with 1 browser. When you switch websites you don't just go and start a new browser you wanna have a one for all tool.
ive been using opera standard instead of mini. is deepfish even available? i have the beta .6 skyfire and its too slow. right now, my main browser is the newest 9.5 opera ripped from the diamond. it works great. no qualms with it here
need opera mobile in there
yea i prefer opera mobile 9.5 over the other picks
Skyfire!!!!!!!!!
Opera Mini is the fastest but Skyfire is a stable full browser so i will pick Skyfire. Opera 8 is good too but it wasn't stable on my treo 700wx. Deepfish just sucks.

Time to check out Torch Mobile Browser

Just downloaded the latest version (1.0.15 a.k.a. 1.1.0 Beta 2) and it's very, very much improved over the previous version. For those that don't know what it is, it's a (currently) free WinMo browser based on WebKit. It supports tabs, has some snazzy visual effects, and renders full webpages quite well. If you haven't tried the latest version yet, give it a shot. It's good enough that it replaces Opera and PIE now.
The developers have been responsive to email suggestions I have sent and I've noticed my suggestions in later versions (which is kinda cool). Not sure if it will stay free for ever, but let's hope it does and keeps improving...

Could you post some screen shots please?
always looked the same, just getting faster now...
But here are reviews with pics:

mmmmmmmmmm....
sounds like a WM based browser isn´it?
Don´t think it´s a good competitor of Opera Mobile...
I just never really liked Opera Mobile. When I cook my ROM for the Fuze, that's the first thing that's going to be removed. Hell, I like Opera Mini much more than Opera Mobile. Too fat (resource hungry) and too slow overall.
Until MS releases PocketIE, Iris just became my favorite all around browser. It's still not anywhere close to being perfect, but it's pretty damn decent. And according to one of the main guys at Torch Mobile, it will remain free for non commercial use.

Access Netfront 3.5 Concept Edition

I just wonder if any of you is using the ACCESS NETFRONT 3.5 CONCEPT EDITION? It seems to work very stabile on my MWg Zinc II and also on my Tytn II. In addition it also free until November 30th, 2008. You can find it on the website below:
http://www.access-company.com/products/mobile_solutions/netfrontmobile/browser/35_wm_tp.html
(scroll to the end of the page and hit the download button)
I found it while looking for an alternative browser (since Opera 9.5 is still in the making).
It definitely works faster than Opera! There is just 1 thing bugging me: the default font used in the browser! Back in time you could copy another font into the application's main folder and it worked. tried it here too but no luck so far!

Comment on IE5 vs IE6 for up-comming ROM's

Guy's,
What is your opinion about the new Internet Explorer Mobile 6?
Do we continue with the ordinary IE (IE5) or IE5 should have to be replaced by the IE6 in up-comming ROM's?
Cheers
ie6 is very slow. but it runs some scripts that ie5 doesnt.
i prefer opera mini
..........ummmmmm....unfortunately Opera isn't my choice.
My view point is, Opera simply renders the page nicely but in other way it's far worst than IE.
Page rendering is HORRIBLE on PIE6 imo. I personally have ditchend PIE for Skyfire anyhow, but just my opinion.
IMHO IE6 is better, more sites are showing correctly. More scripts are working. Zoom in/out is good. Its more slower on 64MB, but on my 128MB it is OK.
yes, I think IE60Mobile better....
for example it have "Search on page" function!
Just press Ctrl+F on keyboard
I will use it in my roms in future - I say "NO" to old PIE
Hi
I never got flashlite to run with IE 6, and it is very slow by normal standards. I do feel that ms could have done better, I have seen a beta IE 7 somewhere on xda but not sure if its a real release.
Be happy
Jay
I think IE6 would be much better with the time so I´ll say let´s keep with it
Anyway I normally use Opera Mobile 9.5 and it´s a lot better than IE
Cheers Tomal,
