Just downloaded the latest version (1.0.15 a.k.a. 1.1.0 Beta 2) and it's very, very much improved over the previous version. For those that don't know what it is, it's a (currently) free WinMo browser based on WebKit. It supports tabs, has some snazzy visual effects, and renders full webpages quite well. If you haven't tried the latest version yet, give it a shot. It's good enough that it replaces Opera and PIE now.
The developers have been responsive to email suggestions I have sent and I've noticed my suggestions in later versions (which is kinda cool). Not sure if it will stay free for ever, but let's hope it does and keeps improving...

Could you post some screen shots please?

mmmmmmmmmm....
sounds like a WM based browser isn´it?
Don´t think it´s a good competitor of Opera Mobile...
I just never really liked Opera Mobile. When I cook my ROM for the Fuze, that's the first thing that's going to be removed. Hell, I like Opera Mini much more than Opera Mobile. Too fat (resource hungry) and too slow overall.
Until MS releases PocketIE, Iris just became my favorite all around browser. It's still not anywhere close to being perfect, but it's pretty damn decent. And according to one of the main guys at Torch Mobile, it will remain free for non commercial use.

Im currently using OperaMini 4 due to is pan/zoom functionality and general rendering speed. However due to it being Java it has some limitations.
So Im on the lookout for a next-gen native Windows Mobile Browser.
Netfront v3.5 looks promising (dont know if it is available to test yet);
http://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/browser/index.html
I know the Opera is also working on their next version of Opera Mobile with some similar features.

EDIT:
You can only download a beta version for Netfront v3.4 (expires Feb 29,2008)
Get it here;
http://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/browser/34_wm_tp.html
Not even 3.4 is finalized as yet - let alone 3.5.
Frankly, I don't expect much of the new NetFront version(s). Opera Mini, Mobile and, at times, IEM with a decent plug-in (like PIEPlus) are far more flexible and usable in general.
Ive been playing with v3.4 - but am not very impressed and Ive gone back to Opera Mini. Its not as fast or as easy to navigate. I did like the Visual Bookmarks (similar to Piscal bookmarks) which automatically link to your IE favorites.
Seeing the preview viedo for the next version v3.5 it seems smoother to navigate and pan/zoom. Also the speed seems better with the Optimization/Compression technology they are using.
So I will wait for v3.5 before deciding to switch from Opera Mini.....

Seeing is believing... and, let's not forget it's geography-dependent. For example, for a Chinese users with very slow international connections, Opera Mini might be a very bad choice. For a European or an American, it's the best.
If Access' compression server will only be situated in Japan, I don't think it'll be able to beat Opera Mini in terms of speed - at least not for European and US users.
Hi people,
I know of pocket explorer, and the opera release, but is there any other webbrowsers out there that are any good?
What i am looking for is something like the iphones safari. That would be nice
Pocket Explorer
Opera
Deepfish - damn shame this was never continued!
Cheers
Opera have 2 releases, you didn't mention which one you have. Opera Mobile is one of them but its not free, its good for tabbed browsing and downloads but personally i can't get along with it as it runs slow on my handset and often has script errors, plus struggles with desktop pages and uses alot of data. Opera Mini is the other one and i personally think its amazing. You can load up full web pages quickly and easily and it allows you to zoom in and out of the pages so you can view them like you would on your desktop. It uses very low amounts of data so its cheap to use, plus its free to download.
I personally use opera on my handset as it works well with windows, its the best thing so far anyway.
If your thinking of something more along the lines of the safari (iphone) experience, there is nothing at this time that matches it exactly, but there are similar programs you can get hold of that have been around a little while like Picsel Browser. Which can load up full pages (but cost you alot of data), and renders the pages pretty well, plus you can scroll with your finger and zoom in and out of pages without a stylus. I used to use this browser but i'm now totally hooked on Opera Mini.
I'm sure there are some other browsers out there but these two i mentioned are the only 2 i consider worth mentioning.
PS. Deepfish is similar to Opera mini, its optimises pages server side to make them smaller (data wise anyway), but i think opera have stollen the game from microsoft, thus them stopping any more work on the project, from what we can see anyway!
Hope this all helps btw

Personally I don't use opera mini, because it doesn't come for the htc p4350, i can run the generic, but I have to startup java first, then opera, and with every text area (including adress) it opens a new typing window..

That's the same way it works on my wing. However, as I'm browsing from a phone, I really don't have the highest of expectations for my browsing experience, and all things considered, opera mini is the best option I've found thus far.
how do i get picsel..

There's a lot more than just opera and ie, Picsel's the way to go.

Look for Picsel browser, it works almost exactly as the iPhone safari, the zoom, the kinetic scrolling, all that stuff. Execpt it's made for only samsung phones so they don't make it availible for everybody. I have aa copy, but i don't think i can post it here. Type it in google, there a lot of them there. That's where i found mine. And by the way Picsel dosent just view web pages, it also views pictures, word, excel, pdf and powerpoint. Goodluck

Ever thought about the FTX browser or Webby?
well..guys i got the file..but havent test it yet..well..atleast not yet..lolz jus typed in Picsel Browser 1.0.5 download..nd got it ;D
I tried Piscel and it was very snazzy, however, it does have some site limitations so it looks like the pay version of opera is the way to go.
Just out of curiosity, I'm acustomed to PIE as that is what my Excalibur came with, but slowely I'm getting sick of it and was wondering which one is the best overall browser and why.
I've been experimenting with Deepfish and I love it, the speed is blazing fast but as it is an Alpha version it lacks support and features.
So I'm left with either Skyfire or Opera Mini. Which Way to go?
I´m sure you already checked out this excellent post.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1202096
They each have there good and bad points. Can you make a "All of the above" choice?
1) Yes I looked at the above link, BUT, there are thousonds of spec sheets, but what really matters is the actual user experience and how many people use what.
I haven't used Opera Mobile but I tried Opera mini and maybe because I was new at it and using an unfamiliar interface it didn't seem all that good at the time. Deepfish is awesome but no java. SkyFire has a lot of other drawbacks but am not completely familiar with either. I played with my friends iPhone today (again) and I really love the browser, the rest of the phone is just average und for business just not usable. The browser seems to know how much to zoom into; the connection seems a lot faster than on my dash even though my friends line only ran at 166 kbps, whereas I ran 133 kbps from the same location (from dslreports.com speedtest). I think there is no Java support on the iPhone browser either (might be wrong).
2) I don't want to make all of the above because once you get on the internet you go on with 1 browser. When you switch websites you don't just go and start a new browser you wanna have a one for all tool.
ive been using opera standard instead of mini. is deepfish even available? i have the beta .6 skyfire and its too slow. right now, my main browser is the newest 9.5 opera ripped from the diamond. it works great. no qualms with it here
need opera mobile in there
yea i prefer opera mobile 9.5 over the other picks
Skyfire!!!!!!!!!
Opera Mini is the fastest but Skyfire is a stable full browser so i will pick Skyfire. Opera 8 is good too but it wasn't stable on my treo 700wx. Deepfish just sucks.
Guy's,
What is your opinion about the new Internet Explorer Mobile 6?
Do we continue with the ordinary IE (IE5) or IE5 should have to be replaced by the IE6 in up-comming ROM's?
Cheers
ie6 is very slow. but it runs some scripts that ie5 doesnt.
i prefer opera mini
..........ummmmmm....unfortunately Opera isn't my choice.
My view point is, Opera simply renders the page nicely but in other way it's far worst than IE.
Page rendering is HORRIBLE on PIE6 imo. I personally have ditchend PIE for Skyfire anyhow, but just my opinion.
IMHO IE6 is better, more sites are showing correctly. More scripts are working. Zoom in/out is good. Its more slower on 64MB, but on my 128MB it is OK.
yes, I think IE60Mobile better....
for example it have "Search on page" function!
Just press Ctrl+F on keyboard
I will use it in my roms in future - I say "NO" to old PIE
Hi
I never got flashlite to run with IE 6, and it is very slow by normal standards. I do feel that ms could have done better, I have seen a beta IE 7 somewhere on xda but not sure if its a real release.
Be happy
Jay
I think IE6 would be much better with the time so I´ll say let´s keep with it
Anyway I normally use Opera Mobile 9.5 and it´s a lot better than IE
Cheers Tomal,
What are the builds like now, everything pretty stable?
I mainly use Opera, TomTom 7 (legally purchased) and lots of SMS so nothing too taxing.
All opinions gratefully received.
Easy Answer
Yes. WM6.5 runs as well or better then the WM6.1 counterpart. I fancy the new homescreen as well as the new finger scrolling that is built in. The WM6.5 finger scrolling feels much more fluid and "iphone-like". Simply a bliss to use.
The new redesigned menu's allow a lot more finger friendly use. I also like the new transparent startmenu and task bar. The actual start menu takes some getting used to but if you organize your icons into folders, it helps a lot.
Most of your basic apps are the same as before; Messaging specifically. Everything pretty much just works.
Once you try WM6.5 for a few days, you could never go back to WM6.1 without a fight.
Da_G is pretty much leading the pack and provides basic barebone versions to download. If you download his rom, you'll have JUST the WM6.5 OS with all the basic stuff. If you never used a barebones OS you'll find a few HTC customizations being missed. For example the Volume Control, Phone Dialer, and Task Manager are all HTC specific apps that aren't included with a clean Windows Mobile OS.
While it would be educational and fun to see what a pure WM6.5 OS feels like without the extra crap, for daily use, you might want to hit up some of the custom roms.
I typically like trying Da_G's rom first before cooking my own, so I can see what has changed and explore the new updated rom in its greatness.
player beat me to it. 6.5 is pretty amazing. I haven't found one bug. By the way Da G just released a new build.
do they have a sprint tp compatible version of wm6.5 yet? i havent been able to find one yet.
i'v been using the 21198 build for two weeks now. i haven't gotten around to adding HTC customizations yet as i'm a believe microsoft needs to step up and make an OS with solid with solid core functionality (think apple and iphone). i like 6.5 but there are some application incompatibilities at the moment, eg. epocrates and some other medical software.
opera 9.5.15613, i'm not sure if there are newer builds, doesn't display properly--some tearing in the screen when scrolling. but tomtom7 works fine.
Right now im using his new 21500 build, and i have to say, it is godly. Windows 6.5 runs soo smoothly, and almost no glitches that i can find so far. Battery drains a little fast, but its managable if you charge it every night. Opera is working like a charm, everything is a little small though.. gps is working great also.
Thanks all. Sounds like its time to give it a go.
