Hard reset and saving data? - General Topics

My HTC Wizard needs a hard reset as there is a mysterious ghost alarm going off every day at 11:30 although all alarms and calendar events have been emptied.
So, I have now used Activesync to synchronize the device. Questions:
1- Are the contacts, calendar entries, to-do's and tasks now SAVED ON MY PC or not?
2- When I do a hard reset, will the above information be synced back into my HTC when I connect Activesync?
3- Can I browse the above info (contacts, tasks etc.) on my PC just in case? I just want to be 10000% sure that nothign is lost in the hard reset?
Thanks!

Hiya,
To be sure, I'd install Pim Backup (just Google it) and take a backup of the device. Copy the backup file to your PC.
After hard reset you should be able to install Pim Backup again and copy the backup file back to the device and then restore it again, it's pretty good.
Good luck,
Dave.

Vista Sync deleted all my contacts - any way to restore

Hi all
I just got round to installing activesync on my new PC and started setting up the sync settings, but accidently managed to sync an empty copy of outlook with my phone (HTC Hermes running Schap's 4.00) which instantly wiped out all my contacts. I don't have easy access to the old pc to restore them from there, is there any way to restore them on the phone itself?
Any help will be most greatfully received

ActiveSync Error

My wife fails to sync her 8525 with her laptop. The last time that she synced was 7/22/08. Now when she tries to sync she gets an error "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchoronize all item on your device. You may lose changes made since yor last successful synchronization". There is a support code : 0x8600050D.
Her laptop is vista so she is obviously using WMDC & obviously it can connect. What I don't understand is what server is being referred to? She doesn't use an exchange server or anything like that. Any suggestions would be helpfull. I backed up her device using sprite backup in case I need to hard reset her device. Is there anyway to import the contact from her device into outlook? This way I can delete the partnernship & start fresh?
i think it means that it will just re-sync all items, not just that changed. and by server i think it means the laptop. basically it is almost like starting fresh. i also believe the contacts are synced to outlook.
Thanks, so then basically all of the contacts in her phone that were added since the last sync will be lost. I have everything backed up. So, I may try deleting the partnership & start over. Then run sprite backup & try to restore only the pim. Hopefully that will work. WMDC is even worse than activesync!
To avoid deletions and duplicates, I would suggest a hard reset. I had this problem with WMDC once, and I think it was like a day after last sync. But, as long as you have EVERYTHING backed up, I would start from scratch with a brand new connection, because it may happen again with this connection.
I've seen this message several times when I come back from a trip with a different time zone on the phone than on the laptop. Change the phone / laptop to the correct time / date and try re-syncing again. Hope this helps.

What is the point of syncing

Is it just me, but am I missing the point of syncing my pda.
Touch pro 2 by the way, sprint.
I synced my pda using widnows mobile device center. Then I did a hard rest. When I tried to sync it again there was no option to sync it with the original sync, meaning all of the files and settings and everything are stuck in a data file in my laptop, and my pda is back to factory with my data gone.
Isn't the point of syncing so that you have a backup of your data. If so then why doesn't microcrap make a way to restore the settings to your device.
Or do I just not know what I am doing.

ACtivesync deleted (most) all my contacts

I knew this was gonna happen when i started....i HATE activesync
I had to sync my phone with all my contacts stored on a new computer that had none of the data - i ASSUMED activesync would ask me - like it sometimes does - if i wanted to delete the items on my phone, combine them etc - we've all seen that message right?
well it did not ask, it just synced. it did something weird though - it did not delete ALL my contacts, just MOST. it left like 15 contacts for some random reason.
now before you ask, yes i did do a PIM backup before i synced just cause i was afraid of this happening, but it's not loading any contacts, and more over i think something is wrong with the program/file. when i was backing up it hung forever on outlook, and i thought it was b/c or the email mssgs it was trying to get. so i stopped the backup and unchecked "messages" to be backed up. it did the backup and saved the file. but now when i use the file to restore it's not bringing back the contacts, and i can in the log it says "0 files found" when it gets to the contacts portion of the restore.
Thankfully i still have my sms message log and can retrieve most of my phone numbers thru my text messages, but that is a huge pain and i still will have lost a good number of my numbers.
Any thoughts on:
A. what is going on with my PIM backup restore and why it is not bringing back the contacts?
B. Why would activesync have done this weird sync...if it had left me no contacts i'd understand better what had just taken place but it left me with a few of my contacts and did not delete them all
C. NEXT TIME, HOW DO I SYNC A FRESH SYNC AND GUARANTEE IT WILL HAPPEN THE SAFE WAY WHERE I TRANSFER FROM MY PHONE TO MY COMPUTER AND NOT LOSE EVERYTHING??
Pim bkup saves it as an XML file and can be opened in word and retrieve some names and numbers. I hate ASync as well. I just use mass storage function on device now.
good day.

Saving info for reset

Although I'm still trying to figure out the difference in a hard reset and a factory reset, I need to do one. So I'm wondering if there is any recommendation out there on the best way toi get my phone back to what I need.
Here is what I am doing - please let me know what I might be missing:
1) Installed appback, sms backup and restore, and call log backup and restore and ran them
2) rooted and installed titanium backup
3) backed up apps and a few system settings (wifi, desktop background, a couple of others) with TiBU
4) Also used several apps own backup utility (like nova launcher allows you to export your settings)
5) Plugged my phone in and copied everything from the "phone" and from the sd card to my computer
All my contacts are in gmail, so I don't have to worry about losing those.
Is there something else I should do here or am I ready for the reset?
