Saving info for reset - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Although I'm still trying to figure out the difference in a hard reset and a factory reset, I need to do one. So I'm wondering if there is any recommendation out there on the best way toi get my phone back to what I need.
Here is what I am doing - please let me know what I might be missing:
1) Installed appback, sms backup and restore, and call log backup and restore and ran them
2) rooted and installed titanium backup
3) backed up apps and a few system settings (wifi, desktop background, a couple of others) with TiBU
4) Also used several apps own backup utility (like nova launcher allows you to export your settings)
5) Plugged my phone in and copied everything from the "phone" and from the sd card to my computer
All my contacts are in gmail, so I don't have to worry about losing those.
Is there something else I should do here or am I ready for the reset?

[Q] Restore apps that are still on the phone??

Yesterday my G2x was caught in a reboot cycle and I could do nothing but use a hard reset. I did not wipe any data however. My phone booted up like the day I bought it, but none of my apps are are in the app drawer. After media scanning, gallery found all my pictures and music app found all my music. I used a file explorer and saw that all my app data is still there too. Is there any way I can make android recognize these apps? There is some personally important data in those apps. My device was almost new and unrooted, but I would be willing to root.
Factory resets wipe user data and apps. You will have to reinstall them. Once reinstalled any data they had stored on your sd card should show up. In the future it would benefit you to use a program like titamium backup to keep your apps backed up.

[Q] Something very wrong with Go SMS Pro

Hi, I've had a weird problem where Go SMS Pro seems to have disappeared from my phone. I clicked the icon for it on my LauncherPro dock last night only for it to tell me "could not launch the requested activity." I looked in my app drawer and lo and behold, Go SMS Pro was gone! I tried reinstalling it from the market but once it finished downloading nothing happened, and when I tried restoring it from titanium backup it made my phone reboot. Using root explorer, I found that the app still had data on my phone in several directories, but according to Android the app is not installed at all (so I can't uninstall to remove all that data and start fresh).
What I think may have caused the problem is that I used Apps2SD to move Go SMS Pro to my phone so that I could get the widget to work properly. Could something have been corrupted that way? Also I flashed Infused v1.5.0 yesterday, but I don't think that's the problem; I wiped data and cache, although maybe restoring the app+data from TiBu after flashing messed something up. I didn't have any problems until after I moved it with Apps2SD though.
Basically I want to be able to use Go SMS again (I prefer it to the stock messaging app), so I figure I have to delete all the old data from it from my phone. If anyone with a better working knowledge than me of Android's infrastructure could help me figure out which directories I need to delete data from if I want to be able to do a clean reinstall, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Battery life after GB update

For anyone who has experienced significantly lower battery life after updating to the 2.3.3 GB update on a stock, unrooted Inspire, I may have a solution. I updated to the GB OEM and didn't bother to wipe or factory reset afterwards because I didn't want to lose my data. Nevertheless, I finally did a factory reset through the bootloader. And I formatted my SD card. I believe my BL is significantly better now.
It's possible the data of all the apps and system settings from FroYo might have played a problem with the new GB system. And especially the SD card not being formatted, could cause some issues.
I used MyBackup Pr to save all my apps and system data. And I used the built-in backup of various apps that have it to aid in data saving...like financial apps and such. Then after the reset, I installed MyBackup Pro and restored my apps and data and it will also restore the home screens back to exactly like they were. But it won't restore app data...like game saves or progress. You would need to start your games and other non-saved apps from the beginning again.
So far my BL has been better.
I chose not to restore "System settings" or "Contacts" or "Calender" data because I didn't want the leftover system settings interfering with the fresh system. The Calender restore will cause an FC in gapps and my Contacts are sync'd in Google.
If you do restore your Calender and do get FCs, go into All applications in the Applications settings menu and find the Calender Storage app and clear its data.

[Q] Question regarding Market's App Restore Function

Hi folks,
With the backup & restore function turned on, the Market automatically restores ALL of the applications I have ever installed using my associated Gmail account. I have been downloading applications using this account since 2010 and I have a large collection of applications, many of which I do not need, which are restored every time by the Market. What I want to know is how I can permanently uninstall or disable these apps from restoring. I want to restore only a select few of my apps, and not all. I have explored the different settings of the Market and I unfortunately could not come up with a solution to this problem. Hopefully someone here knows the answer to this problem.
may someone kindly help out.
Since I flash my phone alot, I had that happen to me. Now what I do is UNCHECK the backup and restore option in settings. If that don't work, then back up your apps, etc, and do a factory reset. Go through the welcome setup and when it comes to the part where it asks if you want to backup and restore then uncheck it.
Before you do the factory reset though, clear your market history and cache, first.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Cannot turn on automatic Backup from Settings

Hello everyone, I am stock and non-Rooted.
During the initial setup I skipped the backup&restore setup, and now I wanted to let it backup again in case I want to unlock the bootloader or something.
Now if I go to Settings > Backup & reset and tick "Back up my data", the button below "Backup account" is disable and grayed out and says "No account is currently storing backed up data".
There is no way that I can setup the account.
I even read somewhere that I should have restarted the phone, I did and my account appeared automagically... but later the same day or the day after it disappeared again!
I have no clue and it really looks like a bug in the system.
Sorry - I do not know what would cause that option to be grayed out (assuming you have set up a google account, and selected that as the backup account on that screen)
But just so you know, this backup will not backup all your data (or even your app data).
It (currently) backs up a very limited set of data (like WiFi settings/app list from playstore/)
It will not backup your pictures (assuming you don't have auto-backup enabled in dropbox/G+), game progress (for games that do not have google play integration), personal files, SMS, call logs - all of which will get wiped if you unlock bootloader.
You may want to look at helium backup as an option to backup all data. (If you were rooted, titanium backup would be my recommendation)
Thanks for the tip.
In fact, I think I prefer an on-demand solution rather than a background process which uses battery and network.
I installed Helium and activated using the desktop application.
I now only have a couple of doubts...
Where does the backup get stored when I save on local storage? I would of course like to transfer those files over to Dropbox instead of leaving them on the same phone.
Do the local settings, like WIFI passwords and such also get saved? It's not clear from the UI.
Thanks again
Alright... I googled around a bit and found out there's actually no way to save my stored WIFI passwords without ROOT...
This pretty much sucks as that was one of my most wanted...
The only option I have is really the Google-own backup system, so if anyone had an answer on how to make it work (my first post) that would be great.
