Hi folks;
Ok, here's a question for 'ya.....
Does anyone have a WM6 load that does not leak memory when using POP3 email accounts?
ALL of the loads I've tried thus far (and all of the ones I've cooked) do, to the point that I have to reboot every day or so.
I've managed to isolate the leak to the POP3 client.
I'd use IMAP, but that's severely broken, to the point of unusability (it probably leaks RAM too, but I can't run it long enough to find out!) It complains it "can't download messages from the server" repeatedly (it DOES get them however), which renders it basically unusable. BTW, IMAP has been broken all the way back to WM5, so this is not news.
Is there a version of WM6 that doesn't have a memory leak in it? I guess I can live with resetting once a day due to this, but...... and if so, does anyone have the "list" of things that would have to be spliced to move it from one version of WM6's base to another?

How can I check that memory leak. Describe steps you are doing and steps how to check it.

Set up a POP email account. Set it to sync every few minutes (10, whatever), and to delete messages off server on connect/disconnect.
Send yourself a couple hundred messages.
Read 'em, delete 'em.
Do a send/receive to sync (remove them from the server), confirm they are not on your device anywhere, and also are not on the server.
Look at free RAM. Notice the several megabytes missing. Keep at it for a while (a day or three, depending on your email usage) and you will evenutally have a machine that thrashes due to low RAM and dies.
I've isolated the problem to POP3 accounts. If you set it up as an IMAP account (and can live with the problems IMAP has) the RAM leak does not occur with the same traffic pattern.
As near as I can determine the problem is endemic to WM6; I've tried several different WM6 loads and all have exhibited the problem. WM5 also did the same thing, although in WM5s case it leaks RAM from a number of other places too and I haven't been able to isolate those.

It is an interesting notice. Ill probably never discover that coz im not receiving that much emails. Ill pay my attention in the future.

Yeah, I mirror all my email to my Wizard, and probably get 200 or so a day.
Halfway through the day on a cold boot I'm down to ~16MB free from where I started around 23MB, and the device has gotten quite slow.
If I don't reset it I'll eventually wind up in the single digits and then if you do the wrong thing you get a lockup and are forced to hit the button or pull the battery.

Emails disappearing from exchange inbox and calendar not syncing help please

Hi all, I'm fairly experienced with the WM world (been using since WM2002) and am usually able to fix plenty of people's problems (on here and in the real world). I have run into an issue that I haven't quite been able to figure out. If it were my phone, I'd probably reflash a different rom on it (or even same one) and try it again fresh, but since it is not my phone I haven't tried it yet. Anyways, here is the issue.
My coworker has configured his phone running his provider's stock WM6.1 standard rom. He (well me, he had no idea it was possible until I showed him) is trying to connect his phone to the company's exchange server to get email on the phone. I have configured this (or instructed how to do this) for over 25 people where I work, and the only issues that I have ever run into were certificate issues. I manually pulled down the root certificate, made a cab file containing it, and installed it on his phone. This is easily verified by accessing the company's OWA site from Pocket IE. Without the certificate installed, a certificate warning appears, and with it you access without a problem (which I can do). So certificate, checked.
Now after a soft reset, it comes time to configure it. I get the email address, password, and domain in without a problem. Then the OWA address is put into the server address. Then the specific mail and calendar items are configured (such as retain last 3 days of mail, download 50KB of each message, show last 2 weeks of calendar, etc.), and finish is hit. The device successfully syncs, with no errors appearing on the screen. I even see items come down in activesync (such as syncing 82 contacts, 5 calendar events, and some emails).
I opened pocket outlook, and his inbox is empty. Odd, so I send him a test email from my AT&T Tilt (cooked WM 6.1 rom), and it arrives to his device on the next send/receive. Then, I hit send receive again on his phone and the test email disappears. I have tried changing the "retain" option for email from last 3 days to last 2 weeks, and no difference. Also the Calendar is empty. I sent him a meeting request and he accepted it, but it isn't on his mobile phone's calendar (but it is on the exchange calendar).
The only thing that I could think of is a rule to move everything to his personal folder on his laptop, but he says that he doesn't have one and moves everything over by hand. I'm thinking about swinging by his desk and confirming, but he isn't dumb and I'm sure he isn't lying about it.
I have been searching google (here and full internet google) without much luck. Thanks for any ideas to try, or else I'm gonna go soft reset his phone

Well he did tell me when he closed outlook on his work PC, everything started working right. I might try to swing by and look at his outlook afterall.

btw, if your poutlook syncs only new mails, and your server is configured to not keep messages on the server, the message might be deleted every other send/receive.

HTC Fuze e-mail client

Hello all.
I own an HTC Fuze and I'm crazy about it. I'm really glad I decided to go with it over an iPhone.
I have two e-mail accounts, both of which I access via a webmail interface because I don't like having my e-mails downloaded onto a computer. I'd much rather be able to access them anywhere, and have the protected in case of a computer crash. In addition to accessing my e-mail via web interface, I also like to have my phone check for new e-mails and download them (without deleting them from the e-mail server). That way if I'm away from a computer I can have access to all my e-mails, but those same e-mails are still sitting safely on the e-mail server.
My primary e-mail is a premium membership Yahoo account. My secondary e-mail, which a very distant second in importance and frankly I could live without, is through a private web hosting company that I have a website on.
I set up my Fuze to access both of those e-mail accounts using the e-mail client that comes installed on it. Initially I set up both accounts to be checked for new e-mails every 30 minutes. The problem is, with two e-mail accounts being checked every half hour each, the drain on the device's battery life is considerable (I have the e-mail client set to download all e-mails in their entirety including attachments).
Is there a way (via a different set-up option, a 3rd-party e-mail client, or whatever) that I can have my two e-mail servers notify my phone when there is pending e-mail rather than have my phone constantly reaching out and checking for e-mail that might not even be there and draining down my battery?
On a semi-related note, the area I live in for some reason does not yet have 3G. A town about 8 miles from here has 3G, so I assume it's "coming soon." So another side effect of the way my e-mail is set up is that if someone tries to call me while my phone is checking for e-mails they get shunted right to voice mail and I miss the call.

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you (2 accounts, battery drain, 3G coming soon). The only solution I found was a combination of :
1) Primary email account to be checked frequently (5 mins - 10 mins interval)
2) Secondary email account to be checked once a day (or perhaps every 4 hours)
3) Charge often (I have a USB cable connected at my office desk), ignoring effect on battery life
4) Manually turn off email checking (or reduce frequency) during the night and weekends, so as to get freedom from charging
The problem is bad, and I'm seriously considering getting a cheap blackberry to handle emails (especially primary account) and leaving my Fuze/Touch Pro to be my main phone/messaging/surfing device.
On the other issue, I don't face that problem. If a call comes in while my phone is checking email, the data connection is dropped and instead the voice call comes through. The difference though, is that I don't have any voice mail...

I have been using a program called Seven ( www.seven.com ) to take care of e-mails. It is a program that pushes your e-mails to your mobile outlook. I use it with gmail although yahoo also appears to be supported. From what I understand, maintaining a constant data connection with push is actually less battery intensive and uses less data than signing on every 15 minutes or so to do a scheduled check.
I used to use IMAP instead of POP with gmail and that took care of the problem of e-mails getting taken off the server. I believe that Seven uses IMAP as well because its function seems to be the same. Any e-mails I read on the phone are marked as read on the server and vice versa. I believe you can set it to not delete from the server if you delete an e-mail on the phone, but I honestly do not delete e-mails from my phone. On its own and also with Seven, Pocket Outlook can be set to only show e-mails from a certain number of days. I have mine set to 5 days. Any e-mails from before that simply do not show up on the phone. As a result, you never have to worry about cleaning up your inbox on the phone. At least, I don't have to, but if you have an extreme volume of e-mail, you may have to even if you only have it set to 5 days.
Also you can set Seven to stop pushing at night or on weekend days as well. My Fuze is on the charger at night but it is nice to not have to hear the e-mail ding when automated e-mails come in at 3am.
I haven't had my Fuze very long, but with my Tilt I recall one day where I didn't make a single phone call, so Seven was the only thing running all day. I still had 90% battery life left after over 12 hours of being off the charger. I haven't been able to do such a test on my Fuze over an entire day, but from what I've seen I believe it is about the same.
The thing I noticed on the Fuze which drains the battery the most is doing anything where the screen is on. Obviously powering and lighting that beautiful VGA screen has its cost. I do have a program that adjusts the backlight better than the stock WM function called G-Light, it lets you set the backlight brightness based on the reading from the light sensor. The lower the light level it detects, the lower the backlight is set to. The stock settings are pretty conservative with the brightness so I believe it will help battery life some while I am using the phone.

First, thank you very much for the response.
Second, I checked into www.seven.com and it seems to indicate that Seven is offered through AT&T via Xpress Mail. I downloaded Xpress Mail and set it up for my Yahoo account, but it seems to have even less customization and control than the built-in e-mail client that came with the Fuze. It won't allow me to change any options, instead referring me to "Xpress Mail Settings" to change option. The Xpress Mail settings program offers virtually no choices whatsoever. I can turn Push off or on, and that's pretty much it.
Can you offer any words of wisdom on how I can customize the functionality?

Ooh no that's not what you want to do. Seven works just fine through Pocket Outlook, there is no need to get another program.
Simply install Seven onto the phone, then run it. It should walk you through setup and you can choose Yahoo as your e-mail provider. Since you have already set it up, I would recommend either uninstalling it or removing the current account out of Seven.

Ah, I see where I went astray. On the Seven website there is a large menu option at the top that says "How to Get Seven". So I clicked on that and it steered me toward Xpress Mail through AT&T. So I uninstalled Xpress Mail, signed up for the Seven Beta, and downloaded and installed it.
I set it up to sync with my Yahoo account, and that seemed to go well. I like the fact that I can select quiet hours. Previously I had my phone set to give no audio alerts for e-mails because I didn't like getting woken up in the middle of the night. ;-)
I've got a couple of questions:
1. When I look at Seven's General Settings, there are three options: Phone Data, Quiet Time, and Preferences. I have no problem getting Quiet Time and Preferences to work, but when I select Phone Data it prompts me for "The phone number of the device is" and then put the cursor in an input box. However, I can't type anything into the box either with the slide-out keyboard or with the on-screen keyboard. Is "Phone Data" something I need to be concerned with?
2. How does Seven work with regards to getting messages to my phone? Is my phone constantly "logged in" to Seven (and draining battery power)? If not, how does my phone know when an e-mail has been sent to me and it's time for it to download that e-mail?

1. I believe that is just for Seven's own information, the grayed out box shows my phone number on my phone. I wouldn't worry about it.
2. I'm not 100% clear on how Seven operates regarding getting the data. I believe that their own server constantly checks your e-mail account and when it gets new mail, it pushes the mail to your phone immediately. Now, your phone will maintain a constant data connection in order to do this, so it does use up more battery than if your phone was not connected to the internet. The alternative is to set a scheduled send and receive, perhaps once every 10-15 minutes. This would have your phone connect to the internet, query the server, and then download any mail and disconnect.
According to what I've read regarding push e-mail, push actually uses less data because the act of querying the server and getting a response takes more data than a push connection. A push connection is sort of like a heartbeat, it only sends tiny packets of data to maintain the connection, sending more data when an e-mail actually comes in. I'm assuming that less data = less battery used, although that could be incorrect.
You can try your own test as far as the battery life goes, but I had to wait for a slow day where nobody called me and I didn't have to call anybody and could just let my phone sit there pushing e-mail all day. You could run that test and then run a control test where you completely disabled your e-mail for a day on the phone. If you can see your phone's battery life in a percentage, you can subtract the 2 days and figure out how much data per day your e-mail push connection actually requires. I'm thinking it's not going to be that much though.

One thing I'm having an issue with still, however, is that when I receive e-mails my phone doesn't give me a notification. E-mail is pushed instantly to my phone, and if I turn on the screen it visually shows a waiting e-mail with the little orange number (I use the built-in TouchPro interface on my Fuze), but my phone doesn't beep or vibrate.
I went into the Sounds & Notifications settings and under Notifications and verified that the "Play sound" box is checked and that a tone is selected from the drop-down menu (I even tested it to make sure the tone plays). I have "Flash light" checked and set for no limit, and "Vibrate" checked. Yet when e-mails are pushed to my phone none of those things happen.
Any ideas?

Ah yes, I was aware of that problem but I forgot that the version of Seven I am using is not the *official* release version. It's more of an in-between build. The notification problem is fixed though as it was a big complaint on the previous version. Something they did between the last 2 versions broke the notifications.

Interesting. I followed the link and installed the version you indicated. It said on my screen that it was uninstalling the previously existing version of Seven from my phone in favor of the new version. Everything seemed to go fine. After the install, the phone reset, and all seemed to be working fine.
But I still don't get e-mail notifications.
Oh well, it's not that huge of a deal. Thanks much for all the help you've give me.

Hmm, I know that when I upgraded to the newest version and my notifications stopped, I backed it down to the older version and that one still worked fine. Then I refrained from upgrading until I found this cab file. I may have done a full uninstall first, but I'm not sure. Try uninstalling and reinstall that cab file again. Make sure to do a soft reset in between.
I know that the fix for notifications on the broken version was to turn on the pop-up. Then it would give you the sound and pop-up preview of the message. Try enabling that as well to see if you can get the sounds working, although like me you probably don't want to have that, just the sound notification.
Sadly, that doesn't fix the problem. I can get the pop-up to display, but e-mail messages won't activate an audio notification or cause the light to flash. All my other sounds and notifications (text messages, telephone calls, etc.) have always worked, so I'm not sure what the cause of this may be.
I'm going to be swamped for the next few days. Probably sometime over the weekend I'll look more into it. But thank you very much for all the help you've given me. Even without the audio notifications, this is a far superior way of handling mobile e-mail that what I was doing before.

if you really have a battery problem, just buy a new extended battery off of eBay or something, it's only about $20. shipped. I did that and it works fine.
also, you can change the settings so that the email doesnt download every 30 min, instead change it to an hour or 2.
also, you have one more option...you can use the Seven app. It is a very fast email client without draining your battery. Because you don't have 3G service in your town, you don't have to worry about turning off the 3G....but if you are in an area with 3G service for a while, just turn off 3G. this way you don't use as much of the battery, but you can still access the network and you won't have that much of a problem.

I have my Captivate to automatically retieve emails every 15 mins but it does not, I have to go into email account and select refresh.
Also it is very slow when retieving/deleting email.
is anyone else having any issues?

Try a factory reset. It was taking SO long to push some emails from an account that is relatively empty so I just had about enough of that and decided to do a reset and everything is peachy. Instantly the emails started to load up into the inbox and 5 seconds later it was done.. Amazing!

I have the same problem. Any other than a factory reset? because reinstalling everyting and reconfigure all my phone that's a bummer.

I agree. Got a weeks worth of time invested in getting this thing set up and programs installed (and paid for).
Mine too doesnt do anything until I go into the mail program. It wont even save my changes I make in the email settings. I set mine to automatic, so they arrive as soon as i get an email, but it keeps going back to the 15 and 30 minute settings. This is my only issue with the phone.
Can someone who has done a hard reset try saving their settings to automatic, go into task killer , kill the email program and go back into email and see if it saved??
Instead of using the "email" program I use the "gmail" built in program and I get instant emails. But then again, I use gmail.
Same here. I use gmail for my personal account but for work I use the regular mail app on the phone. I also set up gmail on that app as well. The actual gmail app works great but my gmail account in the regular mail app doesn't--it will tell me I have gmail mail a couple hours after I have already looked at it in the gmail app and marked as read. Same thing with the work mail, things show up much later then they should.
Haven't found a way to fix it yet.
Are you guys using a task killer? If so and the email program is not ignored, the task killer will close the email app...which at that point is running services to retrieve your email.
In the same boat. I have both GMail and the Email program. Gmail is of course instant, however the built in email is horrible (at least with Exchange). I'm not killing it with taskkiller, and I've deleted and reset it up multiple times. I installed Touchdown and gave it a try, however it really didn't seem to make a huge difference. Unfortunately I think it's something we are going to have to endure until 2.2, which supposedly has Active Synch improvements.
I don't have experience with Exchange but really, a reset will speed up a lot of the loading screen "lag". That's the only thing that will.

And after the reset do you use a restore of titanium backup or do you have to do all resinstall manually and re-configure everything (like home screeens and apps)
The issue isn't so much loading screen lag, it's a long period of waiting to do anything (open, reply, delete) when navigation in the program. I'm assuming (more like guessing) that other phones simply make everything appear to happen instantly, and then perform the tasks in the background unlike on Android where everything is done real time.
For instance on my Blackberry and iPhone when I selected 5 emails and chose delete, all 5 would disappear and I could continue working. In Email I select the 5 messages, the program says Messages Deleted then I watch for 5 to 10 seconds as the messages are deleted one at a time, preventing any meaningful use of the program until the process completes. I've checked the Exchange logs, no errors or anything out of the ordinary. It works, just very slowly.
I had the same problem, but K9 instead. After a _lot_ of testing, gnashing of teeth, and pulling of hair, I think I've found the cause.
Email and K9 both appear to store stuff in the /data dir. This is the exact same location that others online have found to be drag-ass slow and the general cause for black screens and/or lag in general. Which pretty much describes exactly what was happening to me with Email and K9. Search here or at MoDaCo for more info on the lag issue.
The solution is to either hope Samsung can somehow fix the speed of the internal SD card or store data elsewhere. I'd be amazed if Samsung ever fixes the speed issue. And storing data elsewhere isn't an option build into either application. K9 might eventually have that feature added, but I doubt Email ever will. There's a potential fix shown at MoDaCo, but it involves rooting, updating the kernel, and partitioning an external SD card. Nothing difficult, but not for everybody.
Touchdown has an option to store data on the external SD card, so it shouldn't suffer the same problem. I haven't played with it yet to see if it does or not.
As for why Gmail seems to work ok, that's a little trickier. It stores under the same path as the others, but it appears to work in an asynchronus mode, relying more on what you have on the server and only checking the local copy if it can't hit the network. At least that's the best explanation I can come up with for why it seems to work much better than Email or K9.
I was using the Nexus One 2.2, with 2 different Exchange syncs and gmail... NO Problem at all.
Different story with the Captivate... Not rooted, with ATT bloat... hardly any other apps loaded, tried both popular loaders. The email is all most unbearable (and unacceptable), reminds me of the iPhone 3g, if not worse.
Hopefully we'll see a straight 2.2 build soon, or I'm really considering returning the phone (already sold my N1 for a chunk of change).. I have 27 days remaining for a return.
Stock 2.2 is the only way to go.
I'd love a stock 2.2 build! But... unless we get lucky with a major change in the driver for the internal (non-sd) filesystem, I don't think it's going to help with the e-mail issue (or the general lag/blackscreen issue) at all.
It's definately not the at&t bloat, I have mine rooted and all of the at&t apps removed. I definately think the data parition fx is the best route to persue.

You haven't tried a reset? The Email app syncs my GMail account quickly for me, however before I did a reset it was loading in my emails one at a time and was noticeably poor.

Gmail and tmail.exe slowing winmo

On 5/19/11 I noticed my phone was getting hot and was not responding when I hit the red key to wake it up. I thought I had an application that was causing the problem so after dealing with it for a couple of days I did a hard reset and started rebuilding my phone app by app.
Well, it didn't take long before it started happening again. At this point I had only configured my email accounts, 1 gmail and 2 other. I thought my phone was about to die (it just came off warranty last month). Then I noticed that tmail.exe was running and consuming ~95% cpu. I figured it was something to do with sending and receiving mail so I went to my email accounts and found that my gmail account was stuck at logging on.
I deleted the gmail account and the problem has gone away. This is not an acceptable solution because I get most of my mail through gmail.
My question is this: WTF is google trying to do now that our email accounts lock up our winmo phones and is this happening to any other os's?

This started happening to me as well on my Touch Pro 2.
tmail.exe gets stuck at 100% and when I open gmail it appears to be hung at "disconnecting"
The account works fine if I click send/receive manually. This just started happening a few days ago.

I suspect most people are not savvy enough to realize the problem is tmail-gmail.
Count me in on this problem too. HTC HD2, WM6.5. First noticed something was up on Friday morning (5/20) when I woke up and my phone was dead. Recharged during the day but the battery was still draining and phone was running hot! Sure enough, tmail.exe running 95% cpu. I've just deleted my gmail account, but this isn't really a solution of course. Prior to that, I tried switching over from imap to pop, both via gmail settings and on the phone, but that didn't stop tmail from jamming up again upon manual send/receive. I'm sorry that I have nothing to add except more confirmation of the problem.
this problem was reported first in duttys rom thread.there is quite some discussion on that matter over there.it could be interesting to work on a solution here instead of in the rom thread.

Just so we're clear, this is a problem with Google. They changed a bit of data within their IMAP processing at or around 1900 on 19 May 2011 EST. This is when the problems began rolling out. Google is the one that needs to fix the problem. It is in no way related to anyone's ROM.
To fix the problem temporarily, you can switch Gmail to use POP3 access instead of IMAP or set it up as an exchange server. The exchange server would consume far less battery than either IMAP or POP. Do a search for the settings. It's pretty simple.
EDIT: Google is aware of the problem and is working to fix it. Check the following thread for updates into the matter.

Temp Fix
I saw this in the Google thread and tested it. It works!!
In your mail configuration, go into manual setup and change the server address to POP.GMAIL.COM. Yes, IMAP works on pop address and it connects/disconnects correctly. ;)
EDIT: Google must have made a change because both addresses resolve to the same server. What was once a hard failure every time now seems to work for a while but some are reporting that it still eventually hangs tmail. Let's hope they're rolling out a fix...
Starting over from scratch solves the problem.
Either delete cemail.vol or do a hard reset. Seems that freshly configured Gmail accounts don't cause freezes.
Did this, now my Lion works like a charm again.
Update: deleting, soft resetting and reconfiguring all Gmail accounts also does the job.

I have tried this multiple times since Friday and the Gmail account still locks up after one or two attempts to send/receive.
Yeah, in the meantime i can confirm this. After a few hours tmail began freezing again.
I have this issue too; it's been going on for a while actually, but I have slightly different symptoms; initially it would be stuck at logging on, and I could press send receive to kick start it. At a later point in time, pressing send receive causes it to hang at disconnect. This persists across multiple hard resets, and occurs randomly.
Just this morning I cannot get it to work no matter what I do...
I confirmed tmail.exe eating 100% of the cpu, and there have been more than a few cases of my freshly charged battery near dead only a few hours later, with gmail "logging on".
And to whoever said imap uses more battery than activesync; get the imap pusher service. Uses less battery and you don't have to put up with activesync's crap
Same stuff today, Duttys v25 HD2 RUS. Missed my morning wakeup call, cause of it.
So, as a temporary fix, I created an account at Yahoo! and forwarded all mail from Gmail to it.

[Q] email client lies

Hi
My Htc Pro 7 (one week old) seems to pretend that it is syncing. It only takes 2 to 3 seconds over Wifi but it doesn't bother downloading new messages.
My (only) email account on the phone is a Blueyonder account (powered by Google). The initial set up went off and collected the account info.
I have turned off SSL and deleted the port numbers from the SMTP and POP settings.
Reentering the username and password convinced it to download the rest of yesterdays emails but not the test one I just sent myself or the others that are on the server.
Outllok 2007 is set to leave copies on the server for 10 days and over the years WM and Symbian handsets have not experienced this problem.
Any suggestions?

Since re-entering the username password- the phone is set to look every 15 minutes and ever hour or so it seems to go off- ask if there are any new messages and then download the odd one without bothering to do download the rest...
Am I really the only person who has a mailbox that is at least a day behind???
I guess I am going to have to reset the phone, and lose all my texts etc.
Nice one MuppetSoft!!! By removing our rights to tweak things you have also prevented us from fixing things ourself. Please stop trying to be Apple.
Sometimes the same thing would happen when I hard reset my phone and set up my Hotmail account for the first time. E-mails don't download even though I can clearly see them on my PC. After a couple hours though, it fixes itself and my e-mails appear regularly, and at times, I get alerts to my phone even faster than I would on my computer.
Maybe give it a jump start by using your phone to compose, send, deleted, etc. Otherwise if it still isn't working, then it may be bugged and a hard reset may be in your future.

I can send emails without any problems. I have only had the phone just over a week and I am pretty sure that on day one it was working properly. I only noticed the issue a couple of days after the Nodo update- not sure if there is a relation or not.
I guess I will have to wait until i have a day off work before i can prepare for a hard reset. Being undiciplined i tend to leave client contact details in the form of text messages, rather than saving them to contacts.

I have not made any changes/restores.
Lets hope it stays that way.

I am such a wanker and should have remembered sooner!!!!
I guess it is a timeout issue, ordinarily the email client asks the server if there are any messages- the server responds "sure about 10000", the email client says "sod that, I'm not cross referencing your list with the ones i am already aware of -I'm off".
With the addition of recent: it only asks for the emails received in the last week or two.
Hopefully the above will be of help to someone else in the near future
