I like a number of you have tried to get the HSDPA working on the Treo 750v. I believe I have stumbled into the solution.
First, go to a German site called fit4communication anytime at http://www.fit4cat.de/thread.php?threadid=91. Down load a program called "fit4cat Hermes Tweaker" (Windows loader version is what I used). Unzip the file and install it to your Treo 750v.
Second, go to XDA Developers at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...e=Hermes_Utils and download SetHSDPAv2.zip. Unzip the file and copy to the mobile device windows directory.
Third, on your Treo 750v start the "fit4cat" program. Scroll done and click the phone tab, select "enable" for HSDPA. Click "File" option on the bottom of the screen, selecting the save before exit option.
The Treo 750v will do a soft reboot.
Then go to DSLREPORTS.com/mspeed. I consistently get 800+.
There is a bit of hitch though. I have not been able to get my DUN working since I tweeked the Treo. But I believe I can resolve it on my portable vs my desktop.
I attached the tweeker file and the SetHSDPA is already here at XDA.
Good luck
Your instructions don't seem to say what to do with the SetHSDPAv2 file? I had downloaded the fit4cat file for the TytN and it seemed to be able to turn on HSDPA; if this works for the 750v then it would be great.
Anyone else able to get this working?
You just put the file in the windows directory and put the short cut in the windows startup folder then soft reset
I have done it but havent tested yet as i am in a bad area and can only just get gprs
Ok, couldn't resist. I just did this and the results are a bit mixed.
I tried DSLreports with 100k file before the "upgrade" and I got 190 kbits/s but I only did this once.
I did the "upgrade" and now I get 284-326 kbits/s on 600k files (did this three times), while there is an improvement, not sure if this counts as HSDPA speed. I do have UMTS coverage when I tried this so it should work. Maybe since I am trying from Hong Kong, the DSLreports site is not the best one to choose from.
Thoughts?
I've been trying to copy the sethdspa.exe file but keep getting this message: "Cannot copy sethdspa:access isd denied. Make sure your mobile has enough memory (it has!), that the file is not read only and that you have permission to copy this file type."
I also get a message saying the file is not a valid Win32 application.
btw this link doesn't work http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...e=Hermes_Utils
any help gratefully received.
thanks
Mike
Solid Results
I posted this over on TreoCentral and number have posted their results - most pretty solid. I've gotten between 550 and 890 speed. Hey, it's an inexpensive solution and should tide us over until the new ROM is released.
Some more help.
I've uploaded the file "Sethdspa.zip" Hope that helps.
Dude you are a bloody genius done the hack on mine and it works great
Thanks for all you effort
got it working and enabled hdspa with fit4cat. Only recording speeds of 330 - 375 on 1mb downloads. This is on UK T-mobile with hdspa enabled on my service. Signal strength is poor here though so i'll try it again when I have 4 bars and i'll post the results.
Had a few problems with voice calls since i switched this on, missed calls etc i am going to have to switch it off again, looks like this is the reason for palms delay
thnks... great find. its working fine on my treo 750v, getting 900kbps and more on Tmobile in east london.
will try to replicate the call issue tomorrow...
Your Welcome
Over the years, the other hackers on this site have been invaluable for help. Got a chance to return the many favors in a fairly large way.

I'm still getting 350 /375 in West London & North London on T-mobile. Are you using the DSLreports site?
As I said before, I am only getting around 330 kbits/s here in Hong Kong but I know HSDPA here is at a very high speed (one of the providers is 1.8Mbits/s and the other is 3.6 Mbits/s); however, what I want to bring up is that it appears my battery life is shorter than before but not sure if this is the cause or not.

Yea , I had that too , so totally hard reset device and still have problem , especially yesterday. I think T-Mobile is upgrading etc as I had total signal drop yesterday for quite some time.

i'm getting shorter battery life too and no speed gain. When I had a tytn hsdpa was giving me 750+ speeds. Is this really working with the 750V and if so, why wasn't it hsdpa enabled in the first place?
I've now disabled it. The battery drain is more than I can endure and the speed gain seems to be minimal. For those that got reasonable speed gain, good on you, but I'm going to wait until the official release (which hopefully won't put such a strain on battery life).
Follow Up
My Treo 750 is running at most times 850+ and when attached via PDANet as DUN generally over 900. Fortunately, I have not had the problems a few have noted here. Between this site and 1 other, there have been 3000+ hits in 2 days.
I venture to guess that the delay on the US Treo 750 with HSDPA enabled is probably the result of some the very issues noted here.
Good news is, it isn't like flashing the ROM - fairly easy to disable the hack.
Ok, after a few hours device radio stops working...
so removed and hard reset to get back to normal <sigh> will have to wait for Vodafone to do a HSDPA ROM
March for HSDPA on 750v
My TC won´t connect to the T mobile HSDPA NL network. It currently is showing 3G with full signal strength. I also have HSDPA coverage in my area.
I talked to Tmobile customer service and they say its probably a setting in th e phone. I have HSDPA enabled in the phone. I have had my sim card replaced since my old one was about 8 years old.
Any ideas?
Is there anyone on the Tmobile network that has HSDPA running on the TC?
Thanks.
Martin
I had the same problem... but the Polaris told me only GPRS network was available... After a Hard Reset the problem went away...
If you've been messing whith aGPS, that could be the source of your problem as, that's the only regedit I didn't do after the Hard Reset...
Hi,
For the poster of this thread. Check this link. It's in dutch, maybe things get clearer.
I already did a hard reset and I haven´t been messing around with the GPS registry settings.
This is really annoying me.

Maverick,
If your Polaris is showing 3G next to the connection that it is sensing the HSDPA. The only time the 3G changes to an H is during packet download. It will switch back and show 3G as a 'ready' state for high speed, 'E' for Edge Ready and 'G' for GPRS ready. The 'E' and 'G' show the same as connected. The '3G' is the only one that changes to 'H' during an active HSDPA transaction.
Exactly the same problem over here.
Pit in combination with my tmobile contract. but no hsdpa
Raskell,
I talked to TMobile customer support about this and they said I should be able to join the HSDPA network the believe the phone is stuck in UMTS mode(3G) they said it's probably a phone setting since I comply to all the requirements for HSDPA. However they couldn't tell me what setting could possibly be wrong.
How do I get it to packet download? should I try to download a large file 50 MB or something like that?

Already did that, stays solid on 3G
You should download a large file when te 3G sign is there. It should become an H when the dowload runs.
With PIT and PIT + it makes no sence to have HSDPA because you never can reach the speed you want.
Only with IT and IT+ it makes sence because then you can reach max speed.

hi Jazzamataz, I´m now downloading a 50 MB file or does it needs larger like 700 MB? However I get a nice 45 KB/s download but no H remains on 3 G.
No 50MB is enough, as soon as data is downloaded it should jump in H mode.
Did you set the mode on auto in the setting of your phone?
The band settings are on auto, I already tried setting them to different bands manually, no effect though. Perhaps the fault lies in TMobiles own network(settings).

Where are you located in NL, did you change any settings on your phone that could be related to HSDPA?
Maverick,
TMobile here in the states does not even support HSDPA. With AT&T(Cingular) they us the 850 MHz band for HSDPA and 1900 for Edge/GPRS. TMo is 1900 only. In Europe, UMTS is 2100 MHz which is not used in the USA.
I know of no phone settings to address this. I agree with the comments to use a bandwidth test site to check your 3G speeds. It may be that you are getting HSDPA. I use http://utilities.globequest.com.ph/ and run the bandwidth meter test several times to ge an average. Mine is typically in the 600-800Kbps range. If I turn off HSDPA, I generally see it drop to 150-200 Kbps. Hope this helps.

Nope, i live in Nijmegen...and i didnt change a thing.
I'll contact TMobile thru mail. Perhaps I get to speak someone at TMobile who's proficient.
Yzord if you didn't change anything in the settings it must be a issue with the TMobile network itself. I live in Almere and according to TMobile there should be HSDPA coverage here.
I am a Hermes owner as well. On my Hermes, the icon shows '3G' most of the time until the phone needs to download. At that point, IF HSDPA is available, then the icon changes to 'H' then back to '3G' when download is complete. However, on the Kaiser, when the HSDPA switch is enabled, it never shows '3G'. Always 'H' wherever it's available, then 'E' everywhere else.
Why doesn't it scale back to 3G at all? I would rather the phone be in 3G mode than H all the time to reduce battery drain? Is this right?
You're right in that the phone should act the same way as the Hermes (H when using it, then 3G when idling). I remember vaguely some 6.1 ROMs had an issue where they displayed H all the time, whether it was using HSDPA or not.
Which ROM are you using, my friend? Might be worth looking through the thread for that ROM and seeing if it's a known issue with the ROM, and if it isn't mentioned, posting in that thread to see what other users are experiencing.
I'm sure you'll find that it's just an icon quirk rather than the phone's in the "wrong" state, so your battery life shouldn't be affected.
When I first started using my Tilt, it would switch back and forth between 3G and H icons depending on the network. For the last 4 months, it has remained on H the whole time.
I use KaiserTweak to auto disconnect HSDPA/3G after 1 minute of inactivity, so regardless of the icon being displayed, I have no adverse effects on my battery life.
In freeware PocketToolman, under OS Tweaks, there is an option that allows you to "Show EDGE network icon instead of GPRS". Untick this option to disable the "E" display.
HSUPA
I've seen in some threads that when your icon stays as an H that you are in an HSUPA enabled area. As I don't seem to live in one I couldn't tell you for sure.
When I'm in NYC, my phone is always showing "H." On my train ride between home (CT) and NYC the phone will switch between all bands depending on my location.
So, it's not just always showing "H" irrespective of the true band. And, when home it'll always show 3G until something is downloading, just like you note.
So...it has to be the band in NYC (for me) that's causing the continuous "H."
The best thing is that there is no difference in the battery drain even though the phone is constantly showing "H," and my download speeds have never been faster. I'm constantly in the 1+ mb range.

I have used Dutty's and uDK ROMS. They both act the same. I guess we really don't know EXACTLY which state the phone is on for sure. Since mine only show either 'H' or 'E'. Never ever see '3G'. On my hermes, it's mostly '3G'. I have to see if this really drains my battery quicker or not.
But all of you guys think that it's bug in the icons then?

I've never heard that. I always thought 'H' was for HSDPA. I guess they should make it distinguishable from each other like 'Ha' and 'Hu' or something.

Yes...maybe that is close. My observations:
The alpha letter(s) refers to the data connection technology. AT&T Q1-2008 network software upgrades enabled the HSUPA feature. At the same time I also noticed the constant "H". However, I caught it early and depending on where I was, I would observe "3G" (idle) - "H" (active data session) - 3G (idle)...or...constant "H". I asked some AT&T contacts and learned that they were rolling out SW upgrades across the market, over a 2-3 week timeframe.
I now get the constant "H". Same ROM through all of this.
"3G" (data) refers to older R99 technology. "H" refers to HSxPA (high speed packet access). It may be that in upgraded areas, the network now defaults to HSDPA (and eventually HSUPA) data connections if the device supports HSP...and the handset is simply reflecting this. Prior to the SW upgrades, HSP enabled devices were still getting pushed to HSP when the data session went active so there is no real difference in performance.
This "H" business has nothing to do with voice. Voice is always plain old UMTS WCDMA.
My point is that I don't think it is an issue with some ROMs. Can't really say that I have noticed any difference in battery life either.
as stated above, when I first got my phone I was getting 3g and H during download and as of late its been an H everywhere, I flashed to dutty's 6.1 rom and everything went back to 3g it dosent even give an H during download.
Might be network specific. I've tried so many roms (on TYTN II) and it has always acted that way where it shows 3g or H from time to time although sometimes it would go down to "G"
I have had the same thing on my kaiser on T-Mobile in the UK, both using the original WM6 rom and that of Dutty (6.1). But it only happens where I live! In most parts of the country, it reverts to 3G. But where I live (North London), it stays constantly on H, irrespective of the rom and the radio used. This started maybe thre months ago. Before that, it would revert to 3G. Any idea?

That only happens I think when you have HSDPA turned off. Did you check to see if it was on?
FWIW...
I just flashed to Official *TEST* ATT Build 6.1 AKU 1.0.2 Build 19209. Default icon behavior was constant "3G" after flash. I enabled HSDPA via Kaiser Tweak and icon behavior changed to constant "H". Speed tests report 875 kbps (or so) regardless of HSDPA setting via Kaiser Tweak. Toggling HSDPA on/off via Kaiser Tweak does not appear to change radio performance and speed test results. It only changes icon behavior. The radio is always operating in HSDPA mode, irrespective of icon indication.
YMMV
Im using Dutty WM 6.1. On my Tilt, H only shows up when I have an active data. It reverts back to 3g when there is no data connection or not active data

Hey Bro, I was doing the same thing with KaiserTweak; and I ran into my tilt not being able to simultaneously do data and voice when I selected anything other than: Disabled (Default)
I use Wayfinder and Google maps while driving and often talk on the phone while needing to download data such as map data.
I raised the question in another thread and a another member pointed out the bug in KaiserTweak.

I was using the same rom as you were and the NIKI radio (1.58.21.23 ). Just this morning I loaded the new Dutty rom with radio 1.58.16.27...H is shown with active data and 3g is shown with no data or not active....my location ROCKLIN CA.
Well I have just upgraded my Vodafone UK V1615 to the new official Vodafone release of Mobile 6.1, before that I had WM version 6.0.
Before the upgrade my icon like many here would stay as H in HSDPA enabled areas and then change to 3g or even G in other areas, regardless of whether I had a data connection or not. Now since the upgrade the strange thing is it varies between G and 3G but does not, ever, go to H. I am absolutely certain that I have HSDPA enabled on the phone.
The funny thing is that when I am work which is definitely an area where HSDPA is constant it still reports 3G but when I run a test it downloads at 1350kbps which is definitely HSDPA. Go figure. This rom has only been out a couple of days so it may be a bug. Be interesting to see if anyone else reports this problem, or it may be deliberate because 3g is more familiar to users here in the UK then HSDPA - maybe its to do with marketing!
Cheers
Barney
I've recently got a new 3G iphone. It came with a new SIM card that is suppose to be optimized for iphone. When I put this sim card into my Touch Cruise, I am unable to get 3G. There is signal bars but I cannot make or receive phone calls. The only way to make or receive phone calls is by disabling the 3G. The same applies for Data. I thought maybe the radio ROM was not working so I changed it to the Murata ROM but I am still having problems. I am on the Rogers network in Canada. Has anybody else having similar problems? Any help would be appreciated as I still find my Touch Cruise more useful than the 3G iphone.
Most probably is ur phone broken. U will have to send it to the service. Maaaaany users had/have/will have problems with calls, connections, signal strenght, bluetooth, camera, broken wheel etc. I had... Touch cruise is crapy.

I've tried both Murata radio roms. Both gives very good 3G signal but when I try to make a call or use data, I get no connection. I've tried the original radio ROM and some of the Kaiser ported radio Roms. They all give me no connection with 3G. In every case, when I disable the 3G, I can make calls and get data although it is only through edge and GPRS. I looked at my box for the TC and it is revision A. Do I need to send my TC for repair? I even went as far as calling my cell phone provider(Rogers) and they couldn't help me. The phone is functional but without 3G I am not getting very fast data speeds.
The problem started with my TC started after upgrading to Udk R6 and R7, after upgrading to R8 and a new radio version

Will give you an updated radio version what will have a good match with the Udk diamond R8 Rom.

just a question, I'm on ATT, and the sim card I use on my polaris came off the iPhone3G, and I get the H (the high speed thing) sign on the phone during data sessions. on some areas I'm only able to get E and sometimes even the G sign came on and off. so I guess, maybe wherever you are, the 3G signal isn't strong enough, so you can only get edge.
and as of the other person noted, polaris is kind of at the edge of getting broken, fast. I only uses mine exclusively for web browsing for a week when the phone goes crazy. sent it to repair and everything seems to be in "sane" mode now let's hope that my phone didn't try to go insane again

Edit/Delete Message
Guys, maybe a silly comment but did you check the following settings : phone/menu/options/band and check select network type to auto?
I have had problems before with 3G & HSDPA. Somtimes when your registered on HSDPA and you travell away from that mast/area into an area that only has 3G or even only Edge, then device does not re-register onto the other band and you will not be bale to make calls and will miss calls. This happened for days one time and i very nearly hard reset my device in frustration, i eventually found out it was a network problem.
Another work around is going to phone/menu/networks and manually select networks and hopefully it should bring up your 3G network.
Phone operators do not like telling you that their 3G or HSPDA networks do not have good coverage or intermittent quality of signal. My 3G network only has 70% coverage & 30 % of that is HSDPA, so i sometimes end up on EDGE and hence miss calls.
Try playing around with the setting above one at a time. When im stuck i manually set band to GSM (edge), then when travelling away reset back to auto. Most of the time however it is fine.
Hi, I'm from Argentina. I had the same problem with 3G after a trip to other country. Now my TC only works well in GSM Band. Unfortunatelly we don't have service support here so if anyone knows how to fix this will be highly appreciated.
I have the same problem in my Polaris. I tried almost every radio i could find, i tried with different sim cards, i tried with official wm6 and wm6.1 roms with no result. When 3G is enabled i can not make or receive calls. I think that the problem started when i first upgraded from WM6 to WM6.1. Now i keep band selection to GSM so at least i can use my polaris as a phone. There must be something that prevents gsm connection when 3G is active. I hope a registry tweak could be found for this. I' m just one step from sending my device to be serviced.
I have the same trouble with my virgin uk sim card and t-mobile which share the same network(need to turn off 3g),but no trouble with my asda sim which uses the vodaphone network. So if you try different sim cards make sure they dont share networks.Another thing i've noticed with my virgin sim is all my preferred networks are unchecked but my phone will still connect if my 3g is turned off?
I have an HTC Inspire 4G.
I am using it for the FIRST time, and for the first time in the Philippines.
It was an AT&T locked phone, so I had to root it to unlock it.
I followed the ace hack kit v9 instructions to get it to root. Everything worked relatively as planned except that installing CM7 resulted in a looping boot screen. I fixed that by clearing the cache, but I wasn't too thrilled with the new look. I didn't try my mobile internet yet at that point (I was on WiFi).
I decided to flash the ClearDroid ROM since I just wanted stock with root.
Everything works great. Except my cellular connection is AMAZINGLY unusably slow. I had to manually enter in the APN settings for the wireless carrier here (Globe), and that was a little bit of a pain in itself. I took the phone to one of the local stores here and they confirmed the settings were correct. Regardless, I CAN connect. It just takes sometimes 5 minutes to load CNN's mobile site, for instance. Android Market times out.
I had an iPhone 3GS here on the same service and same locations, so I know what I should be expecting as far as speeds here.
What could be causing this?
Philippine cell phone providers use 900/1800 bands.
Inspire 4G supports 850/1900
iPhone 3gs supports 850/900/1800/1900 so thats why you got better data speeds.
Im sure the phone shows an E for data connection next to the signal bars.
I do get G next to the signal bars mostly, actually.
Calling and texting works fine also ... is the data connection that much more sensitive to frequency?
Also, this HTC's page says the Inspire supports all bands for GSM and GPRS. (I'm a new user so can't post link)
What are your data speeds with the inspire, and what are they with the iphone?
One thing you may need to do is to edit your build.prop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982082
where can i test my data speeds? using test servers outside of the Philippines will probably not be very accurate.
edit: ok i downloaded the SpeedTest.net app for Android. It seems to have several test servers in the Philippines including one 7 miles away. On WiFi I get 1600k down and 450k up (which sounds about right). On 3G I got 999ms ping and -0k down and -0k up. Note that it actually did "run" through the tests, even though it took a really long time. If I disable my connections it won't actually run through the test and will instead give me an error saying it could not connect to the network.
but i should reiterate again that my connection is EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW. when trying to access the Android market, it seems to time out waiting. when trying to use it as a tethered modem, Windows doesn't see a connection to the Internet. loading google.com takes about 10 seconds to load the text, another 30 seconds just to load the google logo. a page like CNN.com took about 5 minutes just to start to appear. data is getting transfered (i guess that is why the connection doesn't time out), but at a very very very slow speed
i no longer have the iPhone, so I can't test, but as far as overall feel, I could get speeds comparable to what I got in the USA in some areas.

G is for GPRS, which has a max top speed around 60kbps down.

which should still be WAAAAAY faster than what i'm seeing. this feels like 1kbps
ok it looks like it was something to do with the ROM.
I did a nandroid backup and installed CM7 again. Internet works fine right off the bat without ANY configuration (didn't even have to define my APNs).
The thing is I personally don't like CM and would rather use something closer to stock. With this new info, what changes when installing CM or ClearDroid that would be killing my internet?

Flash a stock Rom and see what happens. Make sure you do a full wipe. Clear cache and dalvic too.
Sent from my calculator
As it turns out, the CM APN list is over 3 times the size of mine, which would explain why yours would work out of the box. Thank you for the heads up, I'll incorporate their list in the next build, and hopefully it will make everything work for you also!
well, i decided to copy the APN info from CM7. that seems to have fixed my problem...
Hi ZippyDan
I noticed that you wer able to resolve this issue. Im also using an Inspire 4g but cant get 3g. I wonder what u did to resolve it
