winVista still has some driver incompatibility,it requires some driver updates.Although, some guys have flashed via vista but used VMWare Workstation 6 .Others downloaded drivers from microsoft site to update the vista drivers and flashed, but still multiple problems have been reported afterwards while upgrading/downgrading,therefore,it's always better and recommended to flash in WinXP SP2.
Cheers

I can vouch for VMware Work Station 6(with winxp virtualized),
I've used it just last week to flash my G4 wizard with Blackdiamond 3.0 using G4 Soft spl

Noticed this same thing when using my dads laptop with Vista Home Premium to flash a Rom to my phone. It wouldn't work at all... It actually gave me an error message telling me to upgrade my drivers but that was all. It said Drivers Incompatible. Please Update.
I just let it alone and went back to my girlfriends laptop to fix my phone.

it works well...
Not sure if your searching ever led to this thread where sp3dev explains his steps that work for me every single time; ( i don't have to repeat step 1 obviously )
1. install the correct usb drivers ( see original thread or in my attachment )
2. disable "usb connections" in wmdc
3. put device in bootloader ( camera+side+reset ) & attach device
4. kill wmdc.exe process
5. use the correct RUU util ( i attached one that works for me )
cheers!

Question here is not that 'It can be done or can't be done ?',read my post where I said yes, guys have done it and are doing, but it requires some driver updates and some have done through VMWare, the only thing is that instead of going through all that updates and launching Vitual Machine process and as there has been reported problems afterward, "IS IT WORTH TO UNDER GO ALL THAT TROUBLE" when it's simpler and effortless to upgrade through WinXP ?

Noob Question Need Help

Please dont get mad i looked every where to see if this had already been posted. When i run Hard-SPL I keep geting to 260 error it starts just fine asks me if i will grant access to the application which i do and it starts to do its thing but then halts and i get the 260 error and it dose not go any farther any suggestions?
did you remove your sim and sd card?
In addition, if you have not removed them back up your data. Then do a hard reset. Then remove sim and sd card. It maybe an open port problem so restart your computer as well. Hope this helps.
tried
Gave that a try after it asks if it is alright to load the file on my phone it auto resets phone then 260 error happening again im on vista 64 bit and even tried what the main website said for vista users but half the guide dose not really apply so im not sure what to do or what im doing wrong. any more suggestions?
Need Help
Anyone that has been able to run HardSPL on a vista 64bit system please point me in the right direction I really want to set up my custom roms on my phone that I have found! Please help!!!!!!!!
sorry i couldn't help you i always thought a 260 error was due to open connections or ports.
When you downloaded the zip file for hardspl did you use vista's unzip?
If so you may get an error because vistas unzip program sucks ass and you need to use another application to unzip the hardspl software.

Did you go through the connection settings in the mobile device manager and disable usb connections?
Are you using vista..sometimes it doesnt look for a new set of drivers for the Phone when its in tri color mode..try rebooting and leaving the phone in tri color mode...once you do that, start from scratch after it gets all the drivers installed
This advice is thanks to tochill. Try this and see if it works. Vista often does not automatically load the drivers. I used Vista 64 to flash without a problem. It was a little tricky to get it to load the drivers at first but after they are loaded you should be fine. If it doesn't work let me know and I will see if I can find the drivers for it.
Also make sure you have the most updated version of Windows mobile device center.
not sure what to do
When am I suppose to disable usb connections of the phone in WMDC ? and also I used winrar to extract the folder. also the phone auto reboots after it is promted to allow the program to launch to install hardspl and then I get the same 260 error again any more suggestions? Im sorry for all the trouble here I just really want to get this to work. everyone said it was easier to mod tilts but it seems to be harder then my iphone lol
update ur drivers if ur using vista
for me vista was a pain to flash so i just use my desktop which is xp and its happy flashing for me all the way...piece of cake now after u do it a few times

Before you connect your phone.
You don't need to do any of that. What you need to do is DL the USB driver from A/S & associate it with you device in WMDC. There are several good threads on doing it. Start Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723
Even tried xp
I have even tried using XP I still get the same outcome my phone auto restarts after I tell it to run the program. What am I doing wrong? I am suppose to run the main file off of my PC not the phone correct? and just go trough the setup?
Can some one tell me how they did it step by step because I have followed the instructions on the HARDSPL main thread and it dose not work. And so I am correct this will work with the new ATT Tilt right?
tried all of that still dose not work any other vista run arounds? God i wish i still had my xp discs
Please feel free to message me on aim username is kl3pto really could use some help.

Thanks that was a thread I was looking for to post to the OP as the next step. I have had to reinstall vista 5 times and each 5 times had to do something different to get it to work.
NP, I also suggest with Vista, you flash HardSPL via Jump. Don't flash ROM's or Radios with JumpSPL, but with the 1.93 SPL, I have tons more success using the Flash HardSPL method than the .exe

O.k. for everyone who's traying to Flash in Vista
Donwload the files from this link: http://rapidshare.com/files/38401715/Manual_and_files.rar.html
and extract them in a new created folder like for example your desktop. Extract the USB Modem Vista in a different folder on your desktop (easy to find)
- put your device in bootloader mode (press and hold power, light and softreset button)
- connect the MDA to your computer.
- open computer management (devicemanager) in vista, rightclick computer in startmenu and select manage (see step 1)
- in computermanager open devicemanager (step 2)
- follow step 3 and 4.
After step 4 browse to the folder where you extracted the USB Modem Vista and choose next.
It will install the active sync drivers to vista and you will be able to flash.
I attached a exit bootloader file to exit bootloader mode (you can also install drivers without flashing the device)
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO EXIT BOOTLOADER MODE!!!! EVEN BEVORE FLASHING!!!!
If you do it properly it will be done in less than 4 minutes.
Good luck.

Fastboot not working with windows 7 beta

I recently crashed my vista hard drive and decided to give windows 7 a try, its working wonders right now. The only problem is that I'm trying to put Nandroid back up on my computer again. I am at the step of trying to get the fastboot loader. It worked on Vista, but now it is saying that the "Driver is not intended for this platform." Is that due to windows 7? Is there a work around for this? Any help would be amazing, thanks.
I used Fastboot on Win7 7100 build yesterday, and it worked fine. Did you set everything up according to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3311708&postcount=2
This is all that I did, and everything worked flawlessly. Good luck.
hmm..yeah, i did do everything according to the tutorial exactly, do you have email, aim, gmail, etc? could you help me?
use the newest driver in this SDK..
http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r1/index.html
If you dont see the ADB Device or whatever its called in the device manager you need to delete a generic volume and scan for hardware changes.... HTC talks about it here. I had to do it also...
http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
Troubleshooting
fastboot.exe (on Windows) doesn't detect the ADP device properly
In some cases, Windows detects the ADP1 bootloader as a USB mass storage device, preventing fastboot.exe from accessing it. To resolve the issue, you can dissociate the USB Mass Storage driver from your ADP1 on your Windows machine and install the proper driver instead, as described in the steps below:
1. Boot the device into fastboot mode, as described above, and connect the device to your machine over USB.
2. Navigate to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Observe that the ADP device is listed as a USB Mass Storage Device.
3. Right-click USB Mass Storage Device and select Uninstall. Windows then prompts you with a "New Hardware Found Wizard" message. If Windows doesn't prompt you, you can manually re-detect devices by selecting Action > Scan for hardware changes.
4. Install the USB driver included in the Android SDK, as described in Setting up a Device for Development on the Android Developers site.
thanks southsko, i'll try this and let you guys know how it works.
I tried your method Southsko, but it didnt work for me. I think the problem is that windows 7 refuses to install the driver for the htc dream, because its not "intended for this platform" is there a way to force it to install the driver? or manually install the driver?
When I wrote that tutorial it was using Windows 7 beta. I have also used it since I upgraded to Win7 RC, so I know that it can work. Did you make sure to install driver when the phone is connected and booted to the boot loader screen? Windows sees the phone as a different device when connected normally and at the boot loader. When I installed the driver It popped up with the message that it was for a different version, but it gave me an option to install it anyway. Are you logged in to Windows with admin rights?
i had the same problem earlier tonight, i figured since i was running win7 i might as well try using the virtual xp out. I started the VM up and the attached the phone using the drop downs and it worked flawlessly.
yup .. it's working fine for me too.. if you are using 64 bit version ... u need to use the 64 bit usb driver too... u can get it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446274
Also you may have trouble installing it in Windows 7 unless you turn off driver signing at boot menu. Hit F8 and select no driver signing and you should be able to install it no problem... u will also have to disable driver signing each time you plan on using adb/fastbboot

When choosing the driver software, make sure you select the "x86" folder instead of usb_driver or any parent folder. This is because the wizard search sub directories in alphabetical order, and will stop when it find the driver for x86-64(amd64). Then it will simply tell you "not intended for this platform" without looking in the x86 folder.
Also, you do not have to disable driver signing for this to work.

I am in bootloader mode, and I am an admin. It didn't give me the option to install it anyways. That is interesting. I am currently still using the windows 7 beta. I have tried manually selecting the specific driver files. It is still not working, any other ideas?
I finally got it! thanks everyone. The solution was instead of having it search through the files, there is actually an option below it to pick the driver from a list, the list wasnt the right one originally, then i manually changed the directory and it worked. Thanks for the help everyone!

How come when I installed this on Beta I got the message that I could not install a non-digitally signed driver? I was not able to install it myself until I disabled it at boot... maybe the 32 bit version is signed.

USB Driver Issues

Has anyone else using XP had any issues installing the USB Driver for the Magic? I've tried every possible method to get it to work and it just will not install. A method that appears to work for some is in this link-
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg09692.html
Although this did not work for me. There was also a suggestion of copying the inf file and renaming certain strings by one digit. Any suggestions?
I used the latest SDK with the included driver. Set the environment paths. Nobody has any other suggestions?
renaming the inf file solve the prob for me.

What did you rename it to? I renamed it to android_usb_Magic.inf like the linked post said.
Hi Gimpeh
This worked perfectly for me. The issue was once it installed the Windows drivers there was no way back. However, follow this
So you plugged your Android phone into your Windows machine having forgotten to switch on USB debugging…
Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging
Then Windows detected your device as a USB-Mass storage device and won’t change the settings, regardless of how many times you uninstalled the device. Thread on it here.
This solution worked for me and didn’t require editing the registry settings (I don’t know if the reboot is unnecessary).
(1) Plugin phone
(2) Uninstall any drivers that mention “HTC Android Mobile USB Device”
(3) Unplug phone and restart
(4) Install and run USBDeview
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
(5) Using USBDeview find the Android device (for some reason Windows hides uninstalled drivers instead of deleting them), right click on it and uninstall.
(6) Follow the official instructions to the letter this time.

Good luck!
This is pretty close to the instructions I followed earlier. No resolution. All HTC device drivers have been removed. Although there is a composite USB device installed (not labeled HTC). I know sometimes if windows does not recognize a device it will show it as a composite.
Install HTC Hotsync - http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=573&news_id=169
Have your phone plugged in first then install the app. You don't need the additional drivers it list. Just the Hotsync program.
That did the trick for me.
edit the inf file under the x86 folder inside the usb driver.
replace the vid_0bb4&pid_0c02 with vid_0bb4&pid_0c03
cos somehow my htc is recongnise as vid_0bb4&pid_0c03 instead of vid_0bb4&pid_0c02.
Hotsync didn't work and neither did replacing the string from 02 to 03. I got it to recognize at work on a Vista machine but since then it will not recognize on my home XP or any other Vista machine. When I select Have Disk and select the INF file it says something to the effect of There is no driver information for this device.
Additional Note: Although the device was recognized on that one vista machine, it would not recognize when it was in HBOOT mode.
try to search your registery using the string "vid_0bb4&pid_0c0"
and c wat is your system detecting it as and edit the inf accordingly.

I also have the same problem, just with Vista. Happened after I plugged in the phone the first time without the USB dev debug enabled. I tried a lot of things such as the mentioned USBDeview software and so on. None of the methods have worked. So I am using my Linux laptop to do stuff on the phone.
I guess the only sollution is to reinstall the OS, Windows is very strange a lot of times.

woa.
TT is strange. Which version of windows? vista or xp?
Its XP Home on a HP Mini. I'm glad I finally have it figured out. I've probably spent 20 hours on this issue alone. I even went to Ubuntu since Windows was being...well windows.

Problems flashing cooked WM6 ROM

Hi all,
I am following the steps described in the forum.
I have unlock the universal and follow all the steps (i think so)
In my Universal appears the bootleader with the USB when the USB is connected and serial when not. In the PC i have unchecked the usb connection in the ActiveSync etc... But when i run in the PC the "ROMUpgradeUt" program provided with the cooked ROM package it seems that is not communicating properly with the Universal. First of all when it appers the screen that informs you about the current version of the pda and the upgrade to perform, both fields are empty, Then i click in "next" button and after a while (that informs you that the process could take 20 minutes) it appears some error regarding to the connection (i guess)...
More info: No USB HUB but Windows Xp running on wmware, but the Active Sync works perfectly on vmware.
Please could you help me ?
Thanks!
Er.....
I would first update your bootloader to: 2.01
Then i would check if your uni if connecting to the VMware copy of XP,
another opition you could do if partion your hard-drive nad load XP on to it...
OK Thanks!
But i don't find the bootloader version that you point... i have downloaded the one i have from the main thread of ROM Upgrade... could someone put the link?
thanks
Hi again,
My bootloader version is 1.0 so it is a G3, anyway, Can i update it to WM6 or not ?
Thanks in advance
you should bew able to,
Arr yes, hgave u SPLed ur uni?
i updated my bootloader about last year you my best optinion is to pm Orb3000 and ask for his help
Hi!
Thanks a lot for your comments. Problem solved... i didn't reboot winxp after ActiveSynd installation.... (it seems that was the problem). Right now all is perfect!
