I think that, after has proved two roms that there is in this moment, many of us have valuable contributions that made to help to perfect the final score. I have seen many very positive dispersed suggestions for the different threads that treat the topic.
I think that it is better to open a thread exclusively for suggestions and only suggestions (although they could accompany oneself of a comment) of progress, which is plain and practical for the consultation of the creators of roms.
Also I think that if some suggestion is debatable, we could debate on it and even to vote if we weigh that it must be included or not.
Clearly, they will take their own decisions according to what here they see and of their own perceptions; but it is sure that we serve them as help.
I begin with my own suggestions:
Only for that of Phil:
- To include the STK services to be able to use dual sim.
For both:
- To support most of free possible memory, by means of:
*To install only a source for defect and to be able to have others by means of cabs
*To include neither Windows Live nor the Office, not even Voice Command for defect. To add them in cabs.
- If someone manages to make to work this, to include in the rom (WLAN IP Manager) since it would solve the one that for me is the worst defect of Tornados: the inability to get connected with fixed IPs.
Thanks
PD: I have seen many different, as one on a driver for the joystick, someone on the starter, others on the multimedia player, etc., that also would like to see me implemented, but I hope that there should be the first ones in contributing them who posteen here, so they will be able to make it much better than I.
Excuse us, to me for my horrible English and to Google for his horrifying Spanish.
You are contradicting with yourself. You are saying that they must leave as much free memory as possible and then you are asking for a feature only a few of us will ever use.
I believe the roms must be left as clean as possible. A couple of things such as HTC tasks, file manager, comm manager etc. may be default. But other than that anything can be left out. This way we guarantee that everybody has his own OS style (like linux, unlike windows).
Right now I am using Phil's rom and it is quite stable and fast and I am very satisfied. There are some debug related applications in it which will probably be removed in the next release. And the rest, for me, just works like a charm.

Which? If you talk about STK services, to where I understand I believe that it is an own service of the phone that does not consume resources that only become “visible” when there are several options of to switch on. I do not believe that that is to request a new characteristic, but to correct an error. If you talk about WLAN IP Manager, the same. It does not do more than small adjustments in the registry to correct a tremendous error of the Tornado.
I do not see that it requests nothing else, but good, if some of the things comes aside in cab installable, because better.
It seemed to me very interesting something of a magnificent one to driver for joistick, but no longer I know nor by where it walks.
In order to themselves separate the possible discussions of the suggestions, I believe that it is going to be better to put in negrilla these last ones. In case the creators of roms want to review the thread of a look it will be more easy.
i did have a small list of improvements made some time ago:
ok phil.
if u remove windows update, at least supply it as a cab in the extras folder.
channels don't work.
long pressed side button does not work! it used to start voice note record for the sda and i'd like that to work.
mms.
better camera software. btw htc camera makes the phone SLOW..... not a good one. need an alternate
enable profile switching to silent when long pressing '#' key
default folder for saving pictures on storage card is not my documents\my pictures any more but a lame dcim folder. that would be nice to be changed.
also, sometimes when answering a call, the keyboard stays locked, the call is still on, but the home screen is active and not the call screen.
joystick seems much better but sometimes it doesn't want to work as it should. maybe another driver; if not, this one is good
we need wpa2 for wifi enabled.
also add in the extras folder:
moblue
tcpmp with extra codecs
htc audio manager could be good
if u need the cabs for moblue and htc audio, i have them
there is an newer version of sim manager. v6.10. has a couple of new things (got it if u need it)
and maybe add a good version of opera. not the java one.
we also need a good midlet manager
also a good instant messaging program. maybe a multi client one like oz mobile im, or like im+

Very worked, correct an useful list. I am in agreement with almost everything.
I believe everybody wants is a small, fast and clean ROM, with the latest and more reliable drivers.
Imho, any application that is not mandatory, OR if could be installed in SD should be packed together with the ROM in a ZIP file, so everyone could choose which extra features to install.
Since the extra features installation take some (lot of) time reset or first installation. - It would be Great if someone could manage to create a package installer, where the user may choose what "extras" to install.

Excellent idea. Save lots of time. (Excuse me for I put it in "bold")
Headset profile is missing
I would also add Autokeylock and Right Menu in ROM. They seem to me two essential littel applications.
right menu is not free.
i don't think it's a good idea to include all those 3d party, just the esential stuff (as mms, camera, etc).

Ohhh. It's correct. Excuse me. I thought that it was free. It's mine for a long time.
I agree totally in the rest, but… for me Autokeylock isa essential stuff.
Just give us a basic version, do not include things which can be installed in storage card to maximize the available space
Well said, I agree.
oh yeah... i did forget one bug for my list:
the wm6 t9 does not work right. it seems it has been borrowed from a chinese rom or something because when you switch between typing modes with the * key, it displays some chineese characters.

Impressions from HTC Cruise - Windows Mobile
Hello All,
I have been relatively new here, but I thought I could contribute in the forums by posting my (unbiased) views about HTC Cruise here, hoping other people may find them useful. I am a software developer, so although I do not have an experience with hi-tech PDAs and smartphones, (never owned such a device before), I am fine with the technicalities of such devices.
My everyday phone was a simple sony ericson K510i . What had always annoyed me was that in most "simple" phones, it was quite hard to control the phone via my PC, do backups, backup contacts, SMSes, etc. My sony was good, I had found "MYPhoneExplorer" which pretty much did all those things for my phone. The screen was little bit outdated in terms of resolution, but I did not mind much.
And then came iPhone (which I never owned). I was impressed by its design, usability and user friendliness. I also liked the idea of having WiFi on it. I was close to buying that phone and using one of the available tools to unlock it, (noway I would pay for a contract - I am UK based). My brother who is into mobiles and gadgets more than I am, commented on the fact that iPhone is an "old" generation phone in terms of phone technologies and overpriced. I soon realised it was quite overpriced and started looking at alternatives. I was happy to see HTC would release a really cool phone, which I could get as my Christmas gift (yes, dream on, I had my eyes on it since November and managed to get it this February)...
So, what are my impressions so far?
I dare to say, quite mixed...
On the one hand this device is really wicked and cool! It has all the things I had always liked and needed in a single device. Packing a GPS, a radio, 3G, WiFi in a nice package is just amazing. I can now listen to music, watch videos, find my way around using GPS and have a nice PDA. These are really cool things! No need to have my pockets filled with separate devices...
On the other hand, this phone costed me little bit less than 400 pounds. One can argue you can get a laptop for that price, but then again, a laptop is not a phone. The video issues has not been much of an issue for me, I encode my videos at QVGA and all is well. However, I do get *very* upset when I realise that there is hidden potential in the hardware platform which has not been utilised. What I found bad straight from the moment i used it, is that when i press the "phone-call" hard button, there really is a lag when drawing the blue rectangle above the dialpad, (I am talking about the area which shows the names of your contacts as you type the numbers below.) I mean, come on, so much CPU power, and I can see the blue area being drawn? The other things is that if a couple of applications are running, then the phone does not seem to be operating so smoothly. Again, in order to be fair, it is still very usable. However, as things stand now in the market, in terms of specifications this phone is easily on the upper part, so in my opinion it should be fast, not just "very usable".
My other bit of criticism is probably related to Windows rather than HTC cruise. I find this OS quite interesting on the device, there is a huge applications' base and the things that are missing can be coded by talented people. However, I find the platform a little bit of a pain to use in a pure phone context. Why do i have to check an option everytime I want to get back a delivery report for my SMS? Why do I have to hack the registry to make this permanent? I set a wallpaper in my phone, then I set its transparency, then I realise it is hidden by the today plugin, which I can of course disable. If I disable it I loose certain features which are accessible straight away. I can of course get a new plugin that matchs my needs. Why is it so hard to have tabs with incoming/outgoing/missed calls? This is a feature that phones that cost 10 times less have. Of course Windows 6.1 has this, but then I would have to "install" a new ROM. Simple question: Why do I have to do these things? Why dont' they get it right from the beginning? Don't get me wrong, I am a technology enthusiast and I am sure I will manage to set up the phone the way I want. A number of users out there will do the same thing. However, is this platform one that non-enthusiasts would find user-friendly?
Look at all those skins and modding. Really cool. And the moment you press a button on your really cool new Today plugin, an ungly Windows application will pop up.
I hope that my criticism will be received well here! I like the phone, Windows is cool on it, but I think Microsoft has quite some way to go in order to make their platform really simple to use and user-friendly (think iPhone for example, my parents could use that, but I am quite sure if I show them my phone, they will not know how to make a a phonecall with it!)
In many ways some requirements are contradictory: Being user-friendly means you may have to hide settings, having your platform run on a variety of hardware means you cut corners here and there. Hopefully Microsoft will get it right with version 7 and 8, screenshots look quite good.
As for HTC... They lost a little bit of their credibility with a couple of issues for me. First the sound issue with the french rom which was initially denied and then fixed by people in this forum, then of course the drivers issue. I intend to make good use of this cool phone and customise it to my needs, it just takes time.
For your information, I find these applications useful:
Coreplayer (obviously!)
TouchPal keyboard works good for me
WKTask (and get rid off that default task switcher)
MyMobiler installs on your PC and a little "daemon-service" on your phone, (which you can disable). Then it allows you to control your phone from your desktop.
PocketCM did not particularly appeal to me, so I removed it
FunContact was cool, and loved it. Unfortunately, two things were not so good:
a) Splash screen and loading time
b) sometimes it made my phone freeze
Thanks for reading this (long) post,
Michael
Good post...Here are my impressions as well.
I used to carry a Palm Tx and a Motorala SLVR. I have been looking for the most ideal device to "do it all", PDA, phone (quad band gsm, tri band umts), wifi, and gps. There was nothing realy that appealing on the market until I read about the HTC Touch Cruise.
I read about people's complaints about the "driver" issues and hardware acceleration, and decided to take the risk and bought the phone from a gsm seller online. The phone was unbranded and did not have any stupid carrier proprietary software.
For the most part, I am very happy with the Touch Cruise. I have dumped the palm pda and the slvr, and have not looked back.
I just spent the last 2 weeks traveling to UK (London), Germany (Frankfurt), and Italy (Padova). As a mobile phone, the Touch Cruise functioned flawlessly and had 3G connections where they were available. Couldn't have asked for better features out of a "world" phone.
The TomTom GPS also ran quite well (Western Europe maps). Had to drive alot in Frankfurt and never got lost. Even traffic reports were right on the money.
As for a PDA, it blows the Palm syncing and calendar features out of the water. I used to be a Palm pilot only person, but Palm has become a dinasaur in their attutude to features and interface. The pocket pc has in my opinion surpassed them.
As a portable media device, it does kind of ok . Core Media Player is a must install, microsoft's media players still suck and are not usable and dont support all codecs. This device is not really ideal for video in my opinion. You have to re-encode videos to QVGA for ppc level quality, then video will play fine. You cant simply take a wmv file and dump it on the device to view, it wont work. As for music/mp3's, it works great. I got on a 10 hour flight from UK to US, and used it play music and games, and still had 40% battery charge left over and used an hour of GPS on the way home, with 20% left over.
In all fairness, the HTC could run a little faster, but I blame Microsoft and HTC for hogging up the cpu and not using hardware acceleration.
Since media (video) is not high on my list of required features, I am quite happy with the HTC Touch Cruise.
darkazally, I tend to agree with you really...
I guess if one did not have such a device before or had a really old one, then HTC Cruise is really super. On the other hand I can see certain people's frustration with Cruise. It is mostly people who owned 3 or 4 PDAs before and were probably expecting to be blown away by its specs; I kind of sypathise with them....
I read in an article written by someone at Microsoft, that companies tend to overload Windows with their own propriatory software and then the whole experience goes downwards. He mentioned that for the next versions of windows mobile, they intend to post stricter requirements just because of this situation.
As I also read in these forums, people who got their devices from O2 (just to mention a single company), seem to have more issues with HTC's performance...
I enjoy using the phone everyday and I am in the process of customising it to my needs, though it takes some time!
Uhhh mymobiler is amazing thanks for posting that! That is frickin sweet!
Great review, I tend to agree.
As far as PIM Management, I came from using two devices, a slim panasonic phone and a Xircom Rex 6000 PDA in the early part of this decade (circa 2001), like you I converged them into a Sony Ericsson phone (T610>T616) which had limited capabilities and lacked a lot of features my Rex had. In 2006, I got my first Windows Mobile smartphone, a Qtek 8310 (HTC Tornado), and now I have the HTC Touch Cruise.
Ever since getting into Windows Mobile, I thought that HTC/Microsoft had delivered great functionality, but poor usability and way too much lag for such high powered devices. Take for instance the settings panel. There are probably over 8 programs (4+networking icons, 3+ button config icons, ect) in there that only have one check box, when I'm sure HTC/Microsoft could very easily put them into one or two easy to use program with a Help feature.
But at the end of the day, I don't care if no one can use my device as long as I understand it. Additional consolation is provided in the fact that this phone looks so damned sexy
My Own impression
First of all, I'm new here & let me introduce my self...
I'm Richard & i'm from Indonesia.
I've waited for +3 months, before I decided to buy HTC Touch Cruise.
My other candidate are Atom Life & Nokia N82.
Soon (2 days) after my pal (who own a PDA shop) introduce me to Touch Cruise, I bought it
First impression is luxury.
Second impression........Windows Mobile sucks......
I have done hard reset for 4 times now....due to mis configure the registry....
I've done quite intensive test on my Touch Cruise, including Video,Audio,GPS,3G & Internet,Battery life & Applications.
This is my score (0-10):
1. Stability : 3 -> Typical Windows product
2. Looks : 9
3. Dimension : 8
4. Features : 8
5. Usability : 8
6. User Friendliness : 6
7. Battery Life : 7
Average score : 7
The Driver issue doesn't bothered me yet, so I'm very pleased with my new Touch Cruise
NOTE:
FYI,try not to uninstall anything from your TC.
Microsoft Windows product tends to leave "garbage" into the Registry & it will slow down your TC.
Choose wisely before installing & if you have to uninstall,search & delete any leftover inside the registry.

What's wrong with stability? I'd have to agree that it is probably not the best device overall, but I didn't have a single stability issue with it. Maybe, you've got a defective one?
You know, there are certain lag things that I don't think are due to video drivers. I mentioned this in another thread "Why the lag" but I used to have a Cingular 8525 and supposedly that device had video drivers. It still lagged with a phone skin when you hit the phone button. Rotating the screen was still slow. I hate little things that lag like that. it should be smooth navigation / interface.
The device doesn't have a cohesive feel to it when we have to customize the **** out of it to get it to work the way we want to. You're right when we make a today screen look good then all the underlying apps are ugly windows apps. Your transparency issue, that can only be done from within the Windows picture viewer not the HTC photo viewer. You need to install your own video player. The HTC video browser app only shows videos with certain extensions. It's like you have to have a specific app for every little thing and then it feels like there isn't a streamlined feel to the device.
I gotta give credit to HTC for trying to improve the interface with their apps, the Windows interface is archaic. It's just the combo of the 2 doesn't allow for a polished interface.

On the other hand, thanks to HTC for a platform that allows us to do so and even greater kudos to all the xda-developer wizards who make it possible (and relatively easy for the most part).
Not enough can be said for xda. Although I'm a new poster I've been reading these forums for about a year now. Helped me out greatly with the 8525 and is proving to be helpful with the Cruise.
>You're right when we make a today screen look good then all the underlying apps are ugly windows apps.
I am happy we agree on this, I just wish it had a little bit of the Apple touch on it, that's all....
>Your transparency issue, that can only be done from within the Windows picture viewer not the HTC photo viewer.
All I wanted is a kind of minimal interface, so I can set my own wallpaper and not have it hidden by the huge HTC today plug-in. I have installed spb shell for a couple of weeks now and it looks great. I also discovered the HTC Home Customiser which looks cool, so, that's nice too.
>You need to install your own video player...
I think HTC should actually write a very generous paycheck for the people that developed CorePlayer. Without that one, Cruise would be a *little* bit of a disaster.
Overall I guess Windows is a versatile OS with lots and lots of space of customisation and at the end you do get it right, it just takes a lot of patience and resets to get there...

After some intensive test, I found some irritating bug that caused stability issues.
Quick Menu sometimes disappeared after running several applications.
System Hang at random cause.
Some system settings cannot be changed even if you've already change it.
Redundancy in Registry Entry that can cause stability issues if you change the entry. (not considered a bug if you don't change it)
and some other (not quite sure yet...)
Have you tried a different ROM?
http://www.itpro.co.uk/606879/htc-touch-pro
Or with XDA's help can some of these problems be fixed?
Or are these problems not that big a deal?
Could you quote (copy - paste) the problems here?
There’s an accelerometer in it too so it can do the flip to landscape mode when you turn it round. Unfortunately, this isn’t as responsive as I would have liked, due to the delay in re-rendering the page.
Unfortunately there’s no 3.5mm headphone socket, so you’ll either need to use the typically poor supplied headphones with their mini USB connector, or invest in a Windows mobile remote into which you can plug your own headphones.
However, while it should be possible to scroll up and down between messages like this I found that I instead found that I usually just opened the email as soon as I touched the screen. Once you do, you’re left with the regular clunky Windows Mobile interface, which means getting out the stylus.
A true indicator of the limits of Touch Flo 3D is that it doesn’t present a consistent interface across the whole device. When in regular portrait mode, pressing on the on-screen soft menu buttons in any given application will bring up a list of enlarged, and therefore easy to use with the fingers, menu options, but when you open the keyboard and turn it sideways you get standard Windows Mobile menus.
The inconsistencies carry over to web browsing. While in portrait mode the default page gives you a search box. By contrast, when you open the keyboard and select the Web Search button, it fires up Google.com instead. Furthermore, in portrait mode, double tapping the address bar brings up the search box, into which you can type using the on-screen keyboard. However if you flip open the keyboard and try and do the same the box keeps on disappearing, which is slightly maddening.
Furthermore, while Opera Mobile does a great job of reflowing text to fit the screen, and is generally very good, it does seem to strain the processing power of the device and the browser has a hard job differentiating between taps to cause the page to zoom, and taps to click through on links. Try converting currencies at www.xe.com using the Opera browser as an example – it’s an exercise in frustration.
However, while it all seems smooth at first, when one gets to use the phone for a prolonged period problems start to surface. The issue is that Windows Mobile as an operating system is decidedly sluggish and nothing HTC has done on the surface can disguise this. When the phone rings, there seems to be an unnerving hesitation between pressing the answer button and the call connecting – and ending a call is worse.
Other bugs encountered include the camera application having a tendency to freeze up, and frequent ‘manila.exe’ crash messages that seems to occur when it’s asked to do too much, too quickly.
If you put up with these, you’ll find a very capable device, that’s brimming with useful features but it has to be said that there are rather too many for it to earn a recommendation.
There’s much to be impressed about with the Touch Pro, and much of the time, impress it does, but the irritations of the interface of Windows Mobile and the responsiveness are never too far off, despite HTC’s best efforts.
If you’re set on, or restricted to, Windows Mobile, and want a keyboard, the Touch Pro has to be recommended as the best of the bunch. If you’re happy to cast your net wider however, we’d have to say that we’d choose a Blackberry Bold, Nokia E71, or indeed iPhone over this every time.
sounds like an apple fanboy IMO...

Well, it depends on the webpage you are viewing. If it's a heavy one, you will notice a delay but nothing that you can't handle. Most of the times is pretty snappy.

So... I am guessing they don't like Windows Mobile too much... They didn't really give any of the device real flaws (Like the sound it makes when sliding in\out the keyboard, you have to remove the cover to change the microSD card).
You could buy Google's Dream, but a more polished operating system is not a good reason to buy such an ugly and poorly thought over device...
You could also buy Xperia X1 but you stilll have to face Windows Mobile flaws. You do get better build quality and bigger screen. But the keyboard is graded as one of the worst ever, screen is not flushed, you won't have TF3D (you could get TF2D though...) and the overall appeal of the device seems to be worse than TP.
That's all....
Whats wrong with the noise it makes when you slide out the keyboard?
What happens when you use Windows Mobile Dialer? Is it ugly? Or bad looking? I am used to just a simple Nokia list of names to call so I have no idea what to expect.
And can't the phone's speaker work for FM Radio? Or maybe Slingbox Mobile?
No other cell phone out there right now looks good. I'm interested in Android but it needs to actually get out of the trial first phone stage.
I just want to know when I can write a review that matters. I want to write a stock vs modded review that details every issue before and after..

Thanks for addressing the issues, I am a tentative Pro buyer and have read that review too and it did make me hesitate a bit. Now I'm more convinced, again
Just quickly (this is my first EVER WM phone), how do you disable/enable windows/HTC dialer?
Furthermore, I was hoping that you can point me to a place where I can learn how to tweak/change settings/flash the phone. I checked out the database and Wiki's (I swear I did!) but all it seems are explanations as to what does what - it doesn't really tell you HOW to do the tweaks - like, I know I need to change registries here and there - but HOW? How do I make a backup of everything before I change anything/flash the phone? HOW do I find out the CID? etc. No need to teach me here, just want a good tutorial as to what I can do with a WM phone (and how!), thanks a MILLION in advance!

I checked out the database and Wiki's (I swear I did!) but all it seems are explanations as to what does what - it doesn't really tell you HOW to do the tweaks. No need to teach me here, just want a good tutorial as to what I can do with a WM phone (and how!), thanks a MILLION in advance!

You can do all sorts of tweaks (including changing the dialer) with a registry editor (like Resco's or PHM etc). It is really not hard to find or use one. It's a bit like using File Explorer to find a specific file and edit its' name or properties...
Or you can use one of the programs that are ment for specific registry tweaks. Like Advance Config or Diamond Tweak. Both programs contain all the necessary tweaks in a well presented way so it is a matter of switch on and off a registry edit (or something close to that...)
All in all, the best way to start is either Advance Config or Diamond tweak and when you feel like editing registry by yourself use one of the Registry Editors.

That's a perfect place for me to start, thanks!
Just curious - other than editing registries and flashing with ROM's, what other fun modding can you do?

Whats wrong with the noise it makes when you slide out the keyboard?
What happens when you use Windows Mobile Dialer? Is it ugly? Or bad looking? I am used to just a simple Nokia list of names to call so I have no idea what to expect.
And can't the phone's speaker work for FM Radio? Or maybe Slingbox Mobile?
No other cell phone out there right now looks good. I'm interested in Android but it needs to actually get out of the trial first phone stage.

Don't get me wrong, the keyboard feels extremely solid! The sliding mechanism is strong and has a good feel when you use it. However, when you slide out the keyboard the spring does a sound which some may find weird. I would just prefer it to be a tiny bit more quiet!
A skin for the WM Dialer is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434934
The loudspeaker could be used for FM Radio with the hansfree cable attached to the phone (it acts as an antenna).
The speaker that you use for phone calls can't.

how is that done?!?
Nobody really knows... (Except from the uploader ofcourse)
The video seems real though...
Anyway, for all the new members of Raphael forum, just a reminder:
Since Touch Pro is basically a Diamond with keyboard, you can find a great deal of information, applications, mods, themes and many many many other usefull stuff over at the Diamond thread Themes, Applications and Software
To the OP:
As per the very detailed post on the preceding page there are ways around pretty much everything they say, except for the lack of a 3.5mm jack, since thats hardware.
The Touch Pro is my first WinMo phone (coming from various N-Series Nokia's, the N82 I still have), and I find it excellent after only a little time spent here learning some tweaks (like 4 program icons across in the program menu, large icons in landscape, a couple of registry tweaks to really speed up TF3D, Diamond TF3D configurer to order the tabs in a logical way for my use etc). You hear lots of bad things about WinMo, which it deserves to be perfectly frank (seriously, needing to use a stylus is just awful, so user-unfriendly), but the reality is that when properly skinned to can pretty much alleviate nearly all its shortcomings.

Yeah, I have one of the adaptors too - but its quite large and I only use it in the car. That doesn't really qualify as a real solution in my book, having to carry around another piece of kit that is quite large (the picture makes it look deceptively small).

oh myyyyyyyyyy
how can I ever forget about skinning?? now THAT's really awesome. I'm sure I'll find out how I'll do that later (at least I know who to ask if/when I'm stuck now )
BTW, are you personally using the WM dialer now? or have you done enough tweaking that even the HTC dialer is fast enough?
Both my kids play tennis at a local tennis club. As a parent the club expects me te assist with little tournaments by keeping track of the scores. I hardly ever carry pen and paper with me, so wouldn't it be handy te use my Windows Mobile phone to take care of it.
The games vary from official tennis rules to simple matches where just games are counted. Sometimes simple as the point following 40 gets the game.
I searched for windows mobile software to manage this. No luck...
So i'm trying to find someone who might be interested in writing a little program to keep track of the scores in a tennis game. I was thinking of something like being able to define (per match) what kind of match, just counting games with no sets, or official game-set-match and so on. And then just press (big) buttons fore each point scored on both sides. Screen devided in 2 parts, a third with 2 big buttons, 2 third with points/games scored so far.
Anyone willing to put some energy in this? Might be handy for all the parents and other tennis entousiastics out there....
regards, Jeen
(Engish isn't my native language... so sorry for some weird lines...)
This is just a quick implementation! Supports best of 1, 3 or 5 sets.
update Feb-14-2009
switch between horizontal and vertical layout (in the settings or dpad enter)
implemented undo function for the current set (right menu or dpad up)
show who's serving by changing the label background color to light blue
language support (English, Dutch, German)
update Feb-01-2009
Tie-Break implemented
Settings-Form to set the player's name, use deuce/advantage, infinite single set match, vibrate on click
swap players
hardware button support: left: player 1, right: player 2, down: swap players
Uninstall the previous version manually. Not needed to this manually from this release on.
improvements:
change look and feel
add application icon
handle screen rotation
show elapsed time
save player/match and provide some statistics
editor to setup number of games and sets
known issues:
switching layout doesn't work on vga
wow... thanks for the quick reply.
going to test it..
Did you create this yourself?
yes, just had some spare time.
great work, just what i had in mind. alllready very usefull to me.
Some changes/improvements:
I would like the best out of 1 match not to stop at 6 games. Matches for the youngest kids at our club are time-based.
Also, they sometimes skip the Duece-Advantage situation. So at 40-40, the next point gets the game. Maybe an option to uncheck or disable Duece-Advantage?
Hardwarebutton support: Would it be possible to assign a hardware button to each player e.g. left is playerA, right is playerB and maybe up is Undo
As you started a to-do list yourself, let me add a few things. If that's ok with you...
- feedback when point added (acoustic and/or vibrate)
- swap playerA and playerB
but again, very pleased so far!

Wow, Really great. Works like a charm.
My only wishes left are the 2 you already meantioned... undo and show who's serving.
Wish i had the knowledge to do this... Thanks again.
I wonder if this will be used by others
Going to show this to others at the tennis club, see if they might have other suggestions.
I'm an avid tennis player & fan. I will be trying this out at the club...great work so far!
Another request i got today... localization
Language files for different languages? heliosdev, if there's a language file i would be glad to translate in Dutch.
But an undo-function is needed most...

It is indeed what i expected. Only changing the layout in the settings page doesn't work. Layout is only changed by pressing the D-pad enter button.
Fixed and updated, thanks!
Please add Best of Two
In our junior tennis contest we play on two winning sets. Big thank you.
BTW if you want, then I can prepare czech language...
Can't you just select 'best of three' and stop after the second set?
You'll find the current language files in the installation directory. Look into one of the existing ones for the order of the words and add your new file (of type .txt) at the same place.
Tell me if this worked. And in case you need to install it on a lot of devices, I can integrate the language file in a new cab.
2heliosdev
Czech special character set is not supported (ěščřžýáíé), nevertheless it works.
Of course I can use "Best of Three" for two winning sets method.
I made another version of Czech language .
Unicode is not supported by fact... Silly Czech special characters !
But I used the commas above the letters ! I do not know how it is called, I think characters with -> ´ <- these strange things. Like "á", "í", "ý" and so on. The letters with hooks (I mean "š", "ž" "ě" and similar ultra-weird characters), of course, are not supported (yet? ).
So here is the contents of the file:
Code:
Nabídka;
Nová hra;
Nová hra - 3 sady;
Nová hra - 5 sad;
Prohodit hráce;
Nastavení;
O aplikaci;
Konec;
OK;
Zrusit;
Zpet;
Hrác A;
Hrác B;
Pouzít Shoda/Výhoda;
Neomezená první sada;
Vibrace;
Jazyk;
Vertikalní rozlození;
And here is the file itself:
I thought I would mention the release of a new application called DynaInk. It works with both stylus and finger and allows you to draw on a blank canvas or over a file or photo. Has undo and different pen types and colours. You can save and email your drawings as well.

First, posting warez is not allowed. Second, if you look at my details (top left of post) there are stars, I support the forum.
Having tried other inking/drawing/note taking apps, they don't seem to do well with the capacitive screen so you end up with wobbly inaccurate lines.
Is this one better...I will give it a try, but would also value your opinion

Can't click a link can you?
Pleased you brought this here Nighthawk..... I was just about to do it myself.
Yes, it's a great little New Application.
Very clean and uncluttered.
Loves
1. Background Import:-
I rather like the idea you can import either as a Background or a File a picture.
What is interesting in the Background selection is you can select Camera. Next step take a Photo and it's automatically imported into DynaInk.
2. Multiple Undo's:-
This is brilliant and is a god send of a time saver.
3. Dynamic Brush Selection:-
Gives the Brush & Quill a natural drawing ability.
Dislikes
1. Removing unwanted ink strokes:-
If you draw to the edge (or near) of the screen and then select Undo then undo your strokes, after the Undo window disappears instead of clearing away all the ink strokes selected it leaves the ink on screen that was previously shown outside of the Undo window.
In other words it clears away any strokes within the Undo window but leaves the ones outside on the screen.
2. Finger Painting
It works but it's a bit hit & miss.
Maybe a Capacitive Stylus will help with this.
Queries
1. Portrait/Landscape
According to the Manual it states the program works in either Portrait or Landscape.
I can't find anywhere in how to make the program change to Landscape?
Improvements
1. Zoom Feature
It would be great if we had an option to zoom in on the work.
This would certainly help with the finger painting in help getting the finger in the right place.
Notes:
1. Well, we have 7 (seven) days trial use.
The web site needs a Forum but in the meantime I've left a few questions on the Support feedback message box.
Happy Painting all.........
I did give it a try and as a drawing application it is excellent, even just on a few minutes playing. I have the artistic ability of a small, sun-hardened cowpat (or say Tracy Emin) and the pen mode can even make a few of my daubs look reasonable.
However, I primarily wanted a scribbler for notes, for which it works up to a point if you are prepared to go slow and steady, but even then it sometimes loses the plot.
If I was a sketcher I would buy this in a heartbeat, but I don't rate it for note taking, at least if you only have your finger handy

Just received a reply back from DynaInk to this one.
Hi,
Thanks for reporting this problem. As I see it only occurs when you undo all your steps. This case DynaInk does not refresh the screen.
I will correct it ASAP, until that you can use File/New to undo all your steps.
Best Regards,
Gabor

That was quick.... I only sent off the request around an hour ago.
Guys,
Received another message from DynaInk this evening:-
Thanks Mike!
I hope I can do the fix tomorrow and I will upload it to dynaink.com/download page.
Best Regards,
Gabor

Trust me... you won't be disappointed.
Yeah, I got responces from DynaInk last night after I posted a couple of questions to them and such, about 2 hours after I sent them. I am really impressed with that.
I can mention that the software supports WVGA, they just didn't list it in the overview.
As for rotating, could it be a HD2 issue? I'm going to fiddle with registry and will let you know.

Yes.. I've now sent two messages and both came back within the hour (or thereabouts).
As to the rotating, the manual doesn't give too much info (apart from actually saying Portrait/Landscape).
Would be interesting if there is a reg key.
The developer's going to send me an email very soon with the update to the problem I found on screen refresh. I'll post it here as soon as it comes through, along with any other snippets of info.
I've done the registry hack, but it didn't work (created CAB). I suspect it has to do with the value needed for the HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList >>>
Registry String: DynaInk
Value: ????
Anyone know what I should use here as a value?
*** Tried MunichWinClass, DynaInk - no luck
***UPDATE *** I have got rotation working, you can grab the CAB below for making the change.
The (SC) version is for using if DynaInk was installed on Storage Card. Having not made CABs before I wasn't sure if there is a way to set it up (WinCE Cab Manager) to recognise where app was installed automaticaly, so I made the two seperate ones.

You should drop them a line via the support section on their website and ask about them making a Notes application, seems to me they have a lot of the work already done.

It's a good thought and one that I may just follow up on, thanks.
The main problem seems to be that the fine movement and close curves required to write is misinterpreted, so you seem to get random straight lines joining what I'd guess was two points detected as having been pressed on the screen.
If you write big and slowly it's mostly ok, but I wonder if the screen can ever work properly for notes without a stylus.
Certainly not the software's fault though - it's a tidy bit of kit!

Not had chance yet to try this out Nighthawk.
Can you tell me what it actually does to the software or how it's rotated?
Is it done automatically as you rotate the screen?
It's just adds DynaInk to the GSensor Whitelist (registry), same as we had to do for TomTom.

Key: DynaInk
Value: \Storage Card\Program Files\DynaInk\DynaInk.exe
