good luck and read read read...!

Well, first of all please write your problem in the thread header. "how can i...?" is a little less information.
You can see your OS version choosing "settings", then the tab "System" and "About".
The ROM/IPL/SPL/Radio version will be shown at a boot of the device (2nd screen) with red letters.
To update, look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613

Okay, I did this yesteday, so its fresh from my head Press the camera button and the on button to get it into bootloader and identify firstly if its G3 or G4. Mine was G3 which was great, but yours maybe G4 which is a lot more difficult. Then follow the sticky and you'll sort it.

I think i have a G3 but i dont know step G3.5 and G3.6 dont know if my Sim is locked or not i just got it so please help....
Trying to install WM6-V and when i go to install it u you see in the pic i don't see the Rom ver. why please help me

hi
u have a G3,if u got it just now and it's new and it must be running wm5.
than it's surely must be sim/cid locked.simple way to check if it's sim locked or unlocked is to replace ur present sim with any other sim of any other carrier.if it works then it's sim unlocked, otherwise it's locked.or the other way to check whether it's sim/cid locked or unlocked is to download WST Tool from the thread below, read very carefully and apply the tool :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329170
to unlock sim/cid, goto the following threads and read and read,u\ll find answers to all of ur questions here.go through all the guides there very carefully, when u fully understand and r confident, only then attempt to upgrade, goodluck

The image in the picture looks fine. Most of the ROMs you'll get here don't say what version of OS you're upgrading to on that screen.
If that's what you're sweating about, you shouldn't worry.
However, if you haven't CID unlocked yet, you're not going to get very far--most likely you'll see your same old OS once you've completed the upgrade.
I run XP, not Vista, so I'm not sure what complications will stem from that, but I wish you luck.

Radio Flashing Tutorial (HELP)

Can one of you Gurus write a quick radio flashing tutorial, I've been reading and I can't seem to figure out where the radio flash fits into the equation.
The file for a radio flash is much smaller than the file for a ROM flash but when it is opened it appears that it would over write the ROM when installed through Hard SPL

Anyone posting on a message board obviously can read. Thank You for the useless comment.
Thank you for the link, however I have seen the link posted via the stickied thread, before I made the post. It is WHY I made the post.
When the radio was flashing it went to 95% then froze into recovery mode and would not allow HardSPL to run and also would not reinstall the ROM. I ended up
reinstalling Duttys V4.
I wanted a quick tutorial to make sure I did every thing right and to determine what the cause of the freeze was so I don't brick my phone
Alltheway is right. Ok now I will go into the search function. That situation has been asked many times, and answered many times.

3. Download the Radio of Your choice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349375

Alltheway is right that I could have read the same thing again and hoped for a different result. Insane. At the same time that he is "right", he is equally foolish to come to the board and give a suggestion on how I could have made better use of my time. He clearly took time out of his day to host/post his Samuel Jackson GIF and think of such a witty bit of information to add along with it, when he could have simply explained the process involved.
The situation you are referring to that I could have searched about (install freeze), was already taken care of yesterday so Thanks.
ser00405, Thank You thats all that I needed. If the radio install show occur exactly like a ROM install, my process is correct and I believe that there is something wrong with the radio RAR.

Did I brick my phone?

I'll admit, I'm a newb here although I prowled for a long time before registering. I bought a Kaiser earlier in the year and previously had a Hermes but never did any sort of ROM loading until recently. I was a little hesitant about loading a ROM by myself the first time so I asked for help from a friend who's very knowledgeable.
Everything went fine and he loaded up Duty's current ROM and it worked awesome. The only thing was that my phone wasn't unlocked even though I know we ran through the KaiserUnlocker.EXE.
Feeling confident, I did my friends phone and loaded up the HyperDragon III ROM and it worked perfectly (didn't check to see if it's SIM unlocked though). I liked the ROM so I flashed mine as well and it worked fine. Wanting to have mine SIM unlocked I followed the instructions for SIM unlocking and ran the KaiserUnlocker.EXE and that's where I started having problems.
Everything seemed to have gone smoothly until I put in my SIM and I get this window.

Ran through the KaiserUnlocker.EXE again and now I'm getting this message.
Followed by.
I ran through it again following the instructions and still getting the KaiserUnlocker windows telling me it cannot connect. I was running this all on a Vista machine so on the advice of my friend I tried it through my WinXP computer and still running into the same problem.
Any suggestions on what I can try next?
Are you sure you used a kaiser unlocker? That picture is a diamond or other newer phone.

Thanks for the response guys. I downloaded the unlocker from the sticky thread on the top of this forum. I'm sure it's the right one as the file name I ran was KaiserUnlocker.exe. If you have something different I can try I'll be more than happy to give it a go. Thanks.

Sorry, I wasnt try to be mean, kinda sounded that way though! Your right though, that is the unlocker from the top! Did you Hard Spl profs 1.0 before trying to unlock? I too apologize. The unlocker has been revised since I used it last....Please make sure you do follow the steps exactly. I have done several phones with no issues..but the disconnect reconnect sequence is key.
Guys, I certainly didn't take any offense to the responses and I appreciate any advice you guys can give. I haven't really had any time to mess with it but I'm off tomorrow so I'll give it another try using the unlocker. HardSPL was already done when I installed the Dutty's ROM.

Same error. Thanks though. You got my hopes up I was like YESSS its some special version that works!.....lol
Exact same error?? That is interesting. Definitely flashing a Kaiser, correct?? (you know, always have to ask the basic questions. )
Also, which kitchen are you using and what errors did you have? This error seems like your not HardSPL'd or there was an error with the deviceID or modelID. Hopefully, we can get you squared away.
lmao of course a kaiser =] Kareems kitchen and all the errors there i fixed on my own No my device is hardspl and all that good stuff. Idk what the deal is.
What were the issues that you fixed? How did you go about them? I looked at your other thread and from the screenshot it looked like you might have been missing visual c runtimes. Normally, you don't have to change anything with the kitchens (except for personalization). I suggest trying another kitchen (mbarvian has a nice one) and see how that goes.
My kitchen works fine. I just need to flash my roms to test. And I like my kitchen just fine =]

maybe you want to try a stock rom install with the oem kaiser ruu and see if you still get a similar error... not sure if you already tried that!
Stock ROMS do not install over a Hardspl device as far as I know. I dont want to do that either thanks though.
I'm going to keep searching for you. Hold tight.

Actually, stock ROMs will still install on a HardSPL'd device. The HardSPL essentially disables the check that the update utility performs to make sure that the ROM is genuinely signed.
Trying to flash a stock ROM would be a good idea as well, or even a build that you have made that you know works and is flashable. This will help determine if it's a problem with the utility, or if there happened to be a wierd error whilst building your recent ROM.
EDIT #2: This is the only thing I could find relating to your specific error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1217789&postcount=58
Umm Alright. The error suggests it the utility. Hmm alright i may try a stock rom...keep searching thanks so much!!!!!
yeah, I figured trying to start another version different from the custom ruu will let you know whether its the utility or some missing dll's issue.
I don't mean to budge in since I don't know much about these things!

[Solution] Unlocking Extended ROM on HTC Wizard!

Hi.
Extended ROM is protected for write on some ROM's.
Soo... for unlock it..
is 1 reg-key:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS1]
"SoftwareWriteProtect"=dword:0
and for show it:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:0
and sometimes:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:2
They are in boot.rgu!
But is not all. Protection is still exists.
Extended ROM is protected for write by TrueFFS driver.
A modified TrueFFS driver is attached.

That method is mainly for ROMMakers and advanced users.
Requires ROM dump.
This feature is used in my beta ROM called "H3r5":

That's not true for every ROM! In my ROM I only had to change the reg-settings and everything worked fine. I never changed the driver!
Chefs should try reg-settings first and if it does not work you may try to change the driver.
Wow I don’t know how I missed this thread, but I guess ill add my two cents as well.
I have to agree with Ham3r on this subject.
I have played with many newer ROMs and I was never able to unlock the Extended ROM.
In my research all the ROMs I tried with a version number higher than 1.5.?.? failed to unlock write protection.
My solution was to take the TrueFFS.dll from an older XIP and use it, doing so allowed me to unlock the write protection on the Extended ROM.
If anyone has truly had success unlocking the Extended ROM on higher versions please let me know what the ROM version is.
Any Extended ROM can be unhidden however unlocking write protection is a different story.

I found that driver after year.
Old version (from old wizard roms) brick G4 device (device stay on first splash, after flash other rom stay on welcomehead).
In my ROM and here is version similar to 3.08 T-Mo (1.6.3.8?? i don't remember), but without extrom protection.
And I only had to change the reg-setting to unLOCK my ROM and it worked with G3 and G4. I know the differnts between unlocking and unhiding!

Question problem with notifications

hello everyone
I recently bought a motorola edge s on ebay from china and I noticed that unless I open an app on regular time intervals the app times out and I don't get any notification until the next time I open the app
I tried messing with the settings and disabled battery optimization but it didn't work
I wonder if anyone has encountered this kind of problem and if it has to do that the device version is chinese
if so what can be a solution to it?
I read on the forum that flashing a global version of the android os is one solution to this problem, however I have no experience in going through this kind of process and need a step by step guide specific to this device
if there's an easier solution to a novice like me it will be much appreciated
thank you all in advance
I had the same issue. However your only option will be to flash. China's regulations on phones has the Chinese ROM so broken that it barely functions. Just do your research, and you'll be fine. Make sure you follow the steps to the letter though. And if you have issues, dont be afraid to ask questions in the related threads.
To give you an idea, the moment I flashed my Edge S to the global rom, it was like an entirely different phone. The experience was INSTANTLY better.

I would message this guy. I flashed my phone using LMSU as per his recommendation.
Nahhh.. you don't need to flash to global ROM to get proper notification.
I still find it funny that some people haven't explored built-in Motorola apps as they are intended to help you solve the problem without the need to flash.
MOTOROLA DEVICE SHILED app is there for you to configure your notifications.
Select the app and "Allow running in background" and notification will come in without opening the app.

There are several risks and consequences to unlocking the bootloader.
One is some banking apps will not work if the bootloader is unlocked.
Read the warnings on the unlocking page for more. (see link below)
If you still want to change the software channel from RetCN to another Retail channel like RetUS
See my instructions in this post.
