Hello,
many people have had issues with the joystick of their c600 /sp5 /sp5m etc not responding to push left / right etc, usually once the handset is outside the original manufacturers warranty. I have identified the issue causing this and have spoken to HTC. I now need as many examples as I can get to prove that there is an issue.
This topic is NOT for discussion of causes / remedies of this problem,it is purely a data gathering excercise. If you wish to discuss this please start a new thread as I will ask all discussion comments to be deleted by a mod. For multiple handsets please create a seperate entry. Currently this covers only the tornado / faraday platforms PURCHASED WITHIN THE UK.
Info I would need:
Model:
Seriel: (please pm to me)
Date of purchase (approx ok):
Vendor:
Date of issue arising (approx ok):
Date of repair (approx ok):
Method of repair ( eg warranty, insurance, DIY, chargeable fix, still faulty):
Details of repair (eg cost, warranty case number, orange care policy):
Your details ( should you like your case looking into further - please pm to me):
Thanks in advance. Ideally to be of use I need all the info as requested but if you do not wish to share certain details the please feel free to omit them.
The phone seriels and contact info will only be shared with HTC.
I am posting this request on multiple forums, please only enter your phone details once as duplicates on different threads will cause issues. Once I have any further info I will edit the first post in the thread.

but why don't you let us know WHY the problem is happening in your original post?
There's no need to be secret about it, especially if you expect us to give us our personal information. Otherwise, I have no interest in giving you my information...

This is a suggestion / request to the mods as well as an invitation to all site members to contribute any info they have on this.
At the moment there are no real viruses for windows mobile devices, only a few proofs of concept.
But I have encountered a few examples of supposedly normal commercial software that I really wouldn't want installed on my phone.
Example 1:
A while back a small company (who's name I no longer remember) sent a letter to all its customers threatening that the anti-piracy protection on their software will damage your bootloader if a cracked version of one of their apps is discovered on your phone.
Example 2:
It was reported a while back that Agile Messenger sent user names and passwords for all messenger services unencrypted through the net potentially giving anyone access to your accounts.
Example 3:
While reading the EULA for Opera Mini I discovered it sends users phone number and all their browsing data (cookies, history, cache) to the Opera ASA server basically spying on your internet activities.
Unfortunately all the threads dealing with these otherwise nice and useful apps have now moved deep in to site history so any new users or just someone who haven't been on the site for a while is likely to miss them.
My proposal is this:
Create a sticky locked thread, I think the general section would be most appropriate, so anyone visiting the site would be able to see the list of programs he might want to avoid.
Why lock the thread?
As I understand it moderators can still edit locked threads any time they want so there are two reasons to keep it locked from the general public:
1) To keep the list clear and easily readable.
I am sure many people will want to comment on the software even if it is just to say "how dare they do this?", but any comments / questions would be better off in separate threads.
2) To be fair to the software creators.
I think that anyone making a claim against a software should provide some minimum proof. Like the email quoted in example one, comm log dump or screen shots. At the very list confirmation from other users.
This site has a lot of impact on the mobile community and it would be a shame if a wrongfully accused software would suffer due to being publicized as damaging here.
Hi everybody. Pls can someone explain to me how i can transfer realtime information from my PC to my PDA from time to time, how my PDA will retrieve the information and how it will display and store it. Please i need a detailed information and i won't mind if you can refer me to a very good book that explains all these details. I'll really appreciate it.
Spamming
asegunlolu,
I see you posted this twice within 2 hours of each other. This is no less than spamming and moderators will not tolerate this behaviour, it fills the board up unnecessarily and quite frankly annoys the best of us.
Also the use of such large lettering in this repeat post is also not necessary.
If you want people to help you, id suggest that you give us all a little more information on your device type, the rom and what it is in detail you actually want to achieve!
By the way, did you search the forums for your topic?
repeated posting is against the rules and therefore this thread has been closed
Hi all,
I'm not that far to create my own rom at the moment.
But i see some very nice tools to track your mobile when stolen.
If every ROM builder will implement a Tracker like:
http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/index.html
in his rom as OEM than everyone can protect their phone even when it have been hard reset.
I thnk Remote Tracker is the best, it also support to be cooked in ROMS..
Someone else who share my idea?

First of all after 39 posts, you should be now be aware of the rules against starting redundant posts on redundant subjects. This thread is on this same page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362645
Secondly in this age of the super ram, lite , naked, strip it down ,fad. I doubt that people would want their resources taken up by yet another app that they never use or maybe, possibly, hopefully not, will only use once.
For me, I always have my phone secured in a holster. I only take it out to use, never place it down and never leave it anywhere. I would not want something " cooked " into a rom, that I will never use.
Plus if I can track my " stolen " phone, what keeps people from tracking me ?
A password ? A promise that my information will be kept private at all times,?

Thats not true........... Your device IMEI is part of the protocol the phone service probes and has records of, regardless of the ROM you install. Let us say your phone is stolen, then all you have to do is contact the phone company and request tag location on the IMEI. The phone company then, if you can prove that the phone was yours, will tell you what phone number is now using the device and will assist you locate the phone. The phone companies keep the paired IMEI and the SIM records to prevent theft and to establish warranty start time. Just keep your IMEI number handy if you need it later in case of loss or theft.
So in essence, all those phone locator's' software are nothing but scams.
I think this thread is redundant as Denco has established and needs to be closed.
I agree with the original poster. Every cooked ROM should include this.
And yes, it is password protected so nobody can track you unless you want them to. Not only is it password protected, but you also need the phone number of anyone you want to track. So unless someone has your phone number AND password, you don't need to worry about being tracked.
As far as a phone company helping locate your phone- good luck with that. I can just imagine an AT&T rep responding to that request in a timely fashion, lol.
If my phone ever gets stolen, I will know within 1 minute exactly where it is. And if I was using that app instead of the Sprite Terminator I am currently using, I could FTP all of the contents of my storage card so I don't lose anything, then remotely wipe and lock the device.
That other thread is talking about Sprite Terminator, not the Remote Tracker app this thread is discussing. I will mention Remote Tracker in that other thread and see if anyone bites...

It is not a duplicate. That other thread is discussing Sprite Terminator, not Remote Tracker. That is a totally different app. It's a commercial app that has to be purchased. This Remote Tracker app is a freeware app that even the creator supports and encourages cooking into ROMs.
We don't close IE threads as being duplicates of Opera threads, do we?

If this is a duplicate thread, please post a link where they are discussng cooking this app into every cooked Kaiser ROM. The linked thead is NOT a duplicate. They are discussing a totally different app. And the moda even removed a link because the app they are discussing in that other thread is not freeware. To my knowledge, there is not another thread on the topic of cooking Remote Tracker into all cooked Kaiser ROMs. And if I am mistaken, please post a link.

i never said it was a duplicate but the mentioned thread is about similar software at which point regardless neither that thread or this one should have been posted in this forum, go post in kaiser general, kaiser software or some other forum and keep threads not dealing with rom development out of here. if it's a question about if it can be added as a package, go post question in the thread for the kitchen one is using. way to many people starting non kaiser rom development related threads here in our rom development forum, WAY TO MANY look at all the threads that litter our forum.

The app in that other thread is nothing like this app. It has 1 or 2 of the same features and that's it. This app does a whole lot more than the other app.
Incidentally, I contacted Sprite about possibly turning the Sprite Terminator app into an OEM package for cooked ROMs and the freaked out about how they don't support cooked ROMs, and they're a Microsoft partner, and blah blah blah. This app we're talking about here already has an OEM package created by the app's developer. So it is totally different.
The reason he posted it in this forum is because he is asking that all future cooked ROMs contain this app. That is the whole point of this thread- getting this app cooked into all future cooked ROMs. And in that light, this is the perfect place for this thread.
Rather than looking for threads littering a forum, lets take a look at posts littering a good thread...
Incidentally- that other thread that is about doing this same thing with Sprite Terminator, a few mods even posted in that thread and there was not a peep about it not belonging in this forum. They did, however, say the OEM package had to be taken down for piracy concerns. That is not an issue with Remote tracker because the app developer created an OEM package himself and posted it here on XDA, with a tool to create the registry entries needed, and detailed instructions on how to cook it into a ROM.
Who’s Software is “World Clock”?
Hi All,
On 7/13 I posted in the Touchpro II forum informing that there are many cities in the GMT +5 time zones which display the wrong time in the World Clock function. This includes most of the countries which end with a “stan”.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724913
It received zero replies.
I’m OK with this. I am at peace with the fact that I am the only guy with a TP2 (Tilt 2) that cares what time it is in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. (Please feel free to make fun of this if you’d like – fire at will!) But the bottom line for me is that I need the clock to work, I paid a lot of money for the clock to work, and the software is obviously written wrong.
So now my question is this; who’s program is this? Did MS write it as part of the 6.5 OS, or did HTC add the feature. I need to know who to address my complaint to. If it’s MS, will it be screwed-up in WM7 as well?
Thanks,
Dave
Please cool down, nobody is here to make fun of you.
Moved to Q&A might get answers there.
Please try google if you haven't already.

I'm School of Cool Dude!
Dear Madnish30,
I am cool. I’m very cool. Or at least I was – until I received my most recent “help”. My open invitation for members to poke fun at me was both an acknowledgement that I am aware that not a lot of people care what time it is in Tashkent, as well as an attempt at self-deprecating humor. Although I am determined to get my issue resolved this was in no means a rant of any sort. Perhaps it was cultural and you missed my Yankee Sinicism. Regardless, if you perceived it other than how I meant it, then it was obviously a swing and a miss on my part and I will give some thought towards my writing style. I sincerely apologize for my failed attempt at humor.
Although suggesting that I go goggle myself sounded more like scolding (which I suppose is well within your authority as a moderator) than help, I took your suggestion and tried Google in an attempt to learn the proprietor of the World Clock software with no luck.
As for moving my post, I had posted in the software development forum for a couple of reasons: First and foremost, I figured that people who write software for these devices might be intimately familiar with the entity responsible for the World Clock. Secondly, I suspect there are those among us who might be able to instruct me on how to go into the registry and fix this myself. I am not an expert and tinkering with the registry without specific instruction is probably not a good idea for me, but perhaps I will make this the subject of a more specific post. There exist 265 different forums here. Again I apologize for picking the wrong one.
In the mean time, Leslie (who apparently has no job title) from HTC has weighed-in with her help. Here’s what she had to say:
Hello Dave, Thank you for contacting HTC. I understand your frustration. This may be a problem with the world clock which would need to be addressed in a rom update which would have to be requested by AT&T. By changing the system clock it changes all times, if you are spending extended times in these areas, you can turn off the HTC sence and use the base windows operating system. I hope that answered your questions, if you have any other issues or questions please feel free to contact us. HTC Technical Support www.htc.com www.pcddevices.com www.windowsmobile.com

Obviously this is not a great deal of help to me, but if I read into Leslie’s response, it is a clue that the World Clock is probably an HTC product.
Madnish30, I openly challenge you Sir. That’s right; I am publicly calling you out. You profess to be here to help, and I need help. If you have a World Clock on your HTC device (any HTC device with any carrier) I need you (and anyone else who feels like helping out please, please, please!) to please do the following:
Go to your World Clock and add the following two cities; Muscat, Oman and Tashkent, Uzbekistan. These two cities should be 1 (one) hour apart with Tashkent being one hour later. If they are not, your World Clock is probably completely absent the GMT+5 time zone.
I would be sincerely grateful to anyone who would take the time to give this a shot and let me know the result. This would be beneficial in that I would gain the knowledge of how wide-spread this issue is. While we’re at it, perhaps we could, in light of the degree of research and amount of helpfulness of Leslie’s response, come up with a title for her. So far I’ve come up with:
Vice Minister of Propaganda
Deflection Department Associate
Assistant to the Elimination of Complaints Department
Assistant to the Regional Manager (Only funny to those who follow the U.S. sitcom “The Office”)
Moderator
With respect and gratitude,
Dave

Dave,
Indeed the way your wrote did not convey your message very clearly and wasn't humorous to me at all. I suggest that you do not use your "yankee-cinisim" here at XDA; since people like me may not get it. Though i accept your apology. ( Sarcasm is wasted when used over text. ).
Regarding my suggestion to you, regarding the use of google ( wonder why you typed goggle ? ); i don't find it anything like a scolding? It was meant to help you solve your problem.
Now you had posted in the Windows D&H General forum ( not the software development forum ) and that the rules clearly state is meant for

not general question & answers; no matter how important the question may be.
Regarding you questioning my intentions of helping users here at XDA, i do not need to prove it to you and do not appreciate the comment you made.
We moderators are here to help run the Forum smoothly on voluntary initiatives, so if we did not intend to help other members why would we be here at all ?.
I suggest you do not question the intentions or functioning of a MOD.
Dave, seriously there is no need to use phrases like " i openly challenge you/ I am publicly calling you out. " it falls under the category of flaming here, and flaming is against the Rules.
Now, just to help you i can confirm that in my world clock the time differnce between Muscat, Oman & Tashkent, Uzbekistan is 2 Hours ( Tashkent being ahead ) not 1 hour as it should be ( i checked google for the real times ).
If you are talking about the clock which is found on Sense interface/ Titanium interface it is certainly developed/written by HTC ( with customizations done by carriers ), Micrsoft respectively. And you possibly can not find that information on the internet.
If you are talking about some 3rd party clock; nobody can really help you.
I again repeat myself cool-down, get rid of your frustration and then post again.
Consider this a warning.
madnish30.
Dear Madish30,
You have been extremely helpful and I sincerely appreciate your selfless effort on my behalf. This makes a huge difference as you have been the first to verify that this anomaly is not confined to my Tilt 2, my service carrier, or even any particular variant of the TouchPro2. I believe through forums like this I will soon learn the scope of this issue. For this reason, and with information gained here, I intend to again appeal to HTC for a simple fix. Other cities affected include:
Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Chardzhou, Turkmenistan
Islamabad & Karachi, Pakistan
There are probably many others, but these are the ones I checked in a search to get the correct time displayed on my device while in Tashkent. This is very annoying and difficult to work around as I’ve found that the time on the today screen does not automatically adjust in most of the countries I travel to outside of the U.S. even if the network is 3G. I usually have to select the city as the default manually from the world time menu. This is not a big deal, but when I selected Tashkent, I discovered that the time was wrong. No problem I thought, I’ll just select another city of similar longitude. I can’t find any cities in the database with a correct GMT+5 local time. I can change the time of any selected city, but this changes the displayed time of ALL cities.
Additionally, assuming that someone is going to have to write a fix for this issue anyhow, it is slightly annoying that the most important time zone that I use, GMT or Zulu Time, is not available as a selectable city. Many industries (to include the entirety of the aviation industry) use this as a base or reference time for everything. Call it Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Coordinated Universal Time (CUT), or Zulu – it makes no difference. Every other world time program, to include the clock in the bottom right of your Windows computer, contains this as a selectable option.
As you are probably aware, when one contacts customer service their fix for everything is always to reinstall the rom. This is a lot of work, and obviously will not affect this issue.
Sincere Thanks,
Dave
Please read all of the following -
I have set-up a service that will reveal the phone number of any prank caller / someone who withholds their phone number.
It does cost me to do this so obviously I can't reveal how it works (against the community posting rules here)
I am and this service is UK based and perfectly legal (obviously!)
At the moment, a google search will reveal that nobody else can do this anywhere.....
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR...
I am looking for 5-10 volunteers to test the service and give feedback - Ideally regular contributors/members who have been on this site for a while
Please note that I won't be able to reply to everyone!
It won't cost you anything other than maybe 1 inclusive minute!
HOW THE TEST WILL WORK...
You must be UK based
You simply use any phone to ring a unique UK based number that I will give you - making sure you withhold your number. I will contact you with the actual number you called from.
This is classed as a standard UK based mobile number and will only come out of your free minutes. If you have any doubts, it's simple - move on, I'm not here to con anyone, and I know that I am a new user etc... but follow your instincts - if in doubt...move on!
IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER...
Send me a private message, a quick note about who you are and to confirm that you are UK based! I will forward you the details you need. At the moment, the service takes a number of hours to work - eventually this will be instant. I won't be able to respond to everyone!
WHY AM I POSTING HERE...
Because I was sick of nobody being able to tell me who was pranking me with a private / withheld number - in the end I had to change my phone number. I scoured the web - and there wasn't a solution - so I created one.
Like I said, the testing part is free - and I can't reveal how it works because it does cost me to reveal a withheld / private number and rules here prevent me from charging people for a service
SO...
If you meet the criteria above, and want to test the service and provide some feedback in this thread, please contact me.
Otherwise, I welcome any other constructive comments and I will attempt to respond! - don't ask me how it works - read above to see why!
hi how can I get this so I know who is calling me with held. interested in knowing
