Android on HTC cruise How to?
Hi all,
I'm REALLY confused or misinfomed or whatever on how to run andoid from my sd card.
I tried some things from a website androidonhtc but only got up to a point.
Is there a simple how-to on how to run android on cruise and some links on where to donwload the appropriate files?
For example i have got the haret but i can't find anywhere to download androidinstaller.tar
Am I close or far from my goal?
I know i might ask a silly question but guys i'm really confused.

after getting haretinstall.zip, you need a current kernel (zImage) from

well, it's no garbage, just required more explanation. let me try to make it simpler. this guide will use zImage-eclair and vaniljeclair, change it to suit your taste accordingly
- get haretinstall.zip from here
extract this file and get default-polaris.txt (rename as default.txt), zImage-eclair (rename as zImage), initrd.gz and haret.exe. put all these files into andboot folder in root of your sdcard. your sdcard will look like this:
/andboot/default.txt
/andboot/zImage
/andboot/initrd.gz
/andboot/haret.exe
- next you need to download vaniljeclair from here
extract the file and you will get androidinstall.tar, put this file along with those files on /andboot/
you should have those 5 files or you cannot boot android.
- select haret.exe to execute, press run, pay attention to the text rolling, when it asks you to hold button, hold volume button up, and you will be given installer menu. choose install and delete data. let the format and installer finish, then you will be given menu again. do not quit, just reset, and restart from haret (you will see that you have data.img, system.img and some other files). at this time let the installer do not interrupt, it took more than 5 minutes before android logo asks you to touch screen
- if there is problem during booting, post it here, let people here try to solve

no, if you start android from haret.exe, it will not erase anything.
even data in the sd card??

it will not erase your sd card either, however you might want to backup your data first just in case something does not go well.

BT and WIFI should work, there is vaniljeclair thread on this problem if something is not working.
as for contact I think you need google account to sync.

Thank you for the guide. I actually follow it and encountered an error. When it asked for volume up or d-pad center, I did, then it prompted that it was waiting for something several times. So I soft-reset the phone and launch it again.
Then, after haret.exe is booting linux, I have got a strange screen with scramble text.
How can I put everything back in the previous state to reinstall it propely?

Did you get to the install screen after pressing centerdpad?
If yes, did it install?
What was it waiting for? The error message can give a clue what is wrong.
i manage to get to ask to hold up the center d-pad then get into a installer menu..
currently i just cant get my wifi and bt work..

I have all five file on my SD card but when I click on haret on my Sd and hit run where it say defaukt.txt..I get a error saying " cannot open script file \storage card\andboot\default.txt" is im doing something wrong..thx

I have an ASUS P320.
During flashing a Windows 6.5 ROM, it went bad and now I am not able to boot the phone or do anything.
I have tried 2-3 ROMs to re-flash by putting them in my SD card, but every time it says "Read SD busy !"
I also tried to re-flash it using original 4.10 ROM from official ASUS website but here is where I get stuck up:

Get MBR success

can't find galaxymini-ond.raw !
find 850_GAX_SD.bin !
can't find FLASH.BIN !
can't find GSM.BIN !

after all these msgs I waited for too long, but nothing happens. I repeated this many times, but it stucks after this and I am not able to write any new ROM anyhow on my phone.
I am really really in big trouble as this is my only phone and I am really depressed. Plz can anyone just help me with how to proceed to write a new or any old ROM on my phone? I will be really thankful

But how to use this tool? I am confused?
I kept the 850_GAX_SD_Enc ROM in the same folder as this tool and then run Split P320 ROM.exe
But P320binDEC.exe shows application error. I am running this under Windows XP. Please help me.
Ok I installed .Net Framework 2.0 and everything worked and the files were extracted.
Then I had put all files in root of SD card.
It shows:

Thanks a trillion. This tool injected life into my P320. It had been dead for the past 2-3 months. You are a savior.

I had the prob same as u.
What I did was installed 4.15 WWE than tried to upgrade to WM6.5 from 4.10ZHH WM6.1, and the errors came out.
I even had the paragraph saying
"This concludes the beta test of this
software release. Thank you very much for
your time and effort in helping make this a
great product for our customers.
To obtain a newer release or futher
information,please revisit the web site that
you used to obtain your current beta
release."--------then it got stuck and the only buttons that worked were the volume and reset buttons. And I thought its done that all I could do was to sell it.
But then I split the 850_GAX_SD_Enc.bin(which was from a different language 4.15 zip,referring above), the following came up:
850_gax_sd.bin
GSM.BIN
FLASH.BIN
EXT_ROM.NB0
and others, but I only copy these 4 into SD card cause they were the things that stated "can'"t find"' and I couldnt find galaxymini-ond and GSM.RAM.....and yes I did put 850_gax_sd.bin in instead of the capital one(accidentally!!!cus i thought they were the same, but apparently not...ANYWAY I DID!)
then i inserted the card, flash reset(volume down + reset) it,
it took quite a while to install(abt 10-15 mins)
like u said a pure white screen occurred and it frozen.
then I press the switch on button on top and restart the device...
the old version came up again with 4.15ZHH and WM 6.1 (green) and everything got back to default just like the very first day I bought it.
this is all i did, i think the different between us was that i used a different language of 4.15 and the 850_gax_sd.bin..... not very sure on yours but it worked on mine somehow... I'm not an expert on computer and programmes stuff, and i really cant tell if errors are still left in the device after what i did, so beware of this prob if you follow.

doesn't work it. it crash with a message failed
Download atools, get a release from kaiser section (i suggest froyo one).
Go to the atools help and follow one of the two guide.

1- Get python from internet. download the version 2.7 to have atools working you need python
2- dowload atools, then follow the guide
Please let me know if you make it work, I still cant dowload the initrd from atools, I press the buton but nothing happens "18.Dowload the latest initrd.lzma button E" (from the guide)

in other test the error message was:

The screen appears for timeout, don't worry about it.
Make a simple test, left auto on fstab and reinstall the system.
Let me know the results.

i create a two partition
fat32 patition is 3.00 gb
ext2 partition is 1.00 gb
I set auto in fstab
I have not set anything in boot script editor
and i use kernel 2.6.32
error(immage 1)
i change a kernel with 2.6.25
error(immage 2)

I tried to reboot the phone with kernel 2.6.25 4 times but it doesn't work
I suggest to install first time on haret using image on disk for both system and data.
2.6.32 or 2.6.25 are quite the same, only the second has working camera.
Then when you are sure switch to nand.

last week I had installed the android esclair in nand and work all but the phone is my dad and he doesn't want to use android and I must install in sd haret
how do I fix it?

I think i tried all roms what intoduced in this topic, but none of them launched on my touch cruise. If i try to start it from boot loader it says -no files. If i try haret i can see something colourful on my screen. What i am doing wrong? pls help

Are you sure that you have installed the system?
For the second question,try to rewrite the default.txt
board-htcpolaris.panel_type=1 or board-htcpolaris.panel_type=2 (3)

Read this and follow one of the two guides (all the steps). As a wrote to makousika, he shouldn't release files, but he did... (no further comments).
tried both in case of "NAND" my phone don't see files, if i try 'HARET' it stops every time, during last attempts screen was like that

probably you choose a too big androidinstall, try with another one or change the space for system.

HI everyone ive just started to look up to a tutorial, that everybody suggest, so i dont want to jump some steps or change it cause of some errors/bug.
the tutorial im talkin about its this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma8aUC-Mf5M&feature=edu&list=PL2F07DBCDCC01493A.
The errors start when i type noe the Edittext in the .xml file and my R.java disapire (i restarted everything again from begin and same thing happened). ive read in the comments that the fault may be the old eclipse version that he is using and some solved with these:
-android:inputType="textNoSugge*stions"
- android:inputType="textPasswor*d"
but with me the second one it still gives me an error and even if i delete the row the error stay there and i cant run the apk.
I hope that somebody that have time to watch the video and try it on his own could help me. Thnk
