I tried to reboot the phone with kernel 2.6.25 4 times but it doesn't work

I suggest to install first time on haret using image on disk for both system and data.
2.6.32 or 2.6.25 are quite the same, only the second has working camera.
Then when you are sure switch to nand.

Yes that is correct.
Quick question. Now once we've flashed Lucid JFv1.5 would we be able to reflash a themed JFv1.5 with the lucid's app to sd for newbies mod there?
Two questions:
1. I already have JF1.5 installed on my G1. Can I just do an Alt+S in the bootloader to apply this update?
2. Can I just move the cache and the dalvik instead of moving all 3? I don't have many apps so that is not a concern, but I have heard that the caches will clear up a ton of memory on their own.
Thanks!
I've been wanting to do this and even downloaded the free Partition Manager program last week and with your help I moved my apps to SD card tonight!!!
YOU DA MAN!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
Lucid already modded JFv1.5 ADP?
EDIT
Answered my own question
Ugh I hate being so undecided, I really want to try Lucid's 1.5 since I loved his Apps2SD on 1.42 (in the little time I had 1.5 I couldn't get Apps2SD to work AT ALL) but I just installed debian with lxde back on JF 1.42 and I don't want to have to redo all that if I screw up since I don't use nandroid.
work fine for me too!
thx thx thx thx!!!

(update 21/07 5pm) JACHeroSKI FULL 32B Fully Working (Any dream ROM :))

Hi,
Sorry if I'm wrong,
But thanks to NK02 mentioning in a thread to make one small change to boot.img ramdisk I now have JACHero 2.7.3 fully working (WIFI Bluetooth & FAST!) on my Magic 32B.
I used the normal update.zip from the dream forum, and extracted and changed the boot.img and flashed it in fastboot.
Heres the boot.img to save you making the change as well
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R8OX15W1
I had also previously partitioned my sd card to have an ext2 and swap partition, all of which have been set up automatically so I know the boot.img is working as intended.
Very happy bunny now
UPDATE:
Seems to work for some. Having your SD card prepped with 3 partitions helps a lot.
Speed is going to be slower than say the NK02 Cyano ROM, but thats down to Rosie and the limited RAM, don't think we'll ever get that perfect.
At least now we know a way to use Dream Roms easily (sorry 32A owners, I think K4R1M will have something for you later)
UPDATE 5PM
i just used same method on cyanogens latest rom and works perfectly
Sounds real nice :> What about the gyro/compass ? Doesnt seem to work for me when using the original JACHero 2.7.3
Running well after 1 hour, widgets all stock not removed any and NO rosie reloads.
Little bit of lag, but nothing terrible (and for me to say that means it is hardly there!)
Anyone else tried it? I want to rule out me doing something silly
Compass working (at least in sky map)
Hi Again
Trying to set-up my sd card paritions, but parted command in adb shell is not working (not found error). Do I need a particular recovery image to be able to use parted ?
Thanks!

i dont think there is a magic recovery with the parted command. thats why i used a Gparted live usb boot (google unetbootin - will create a bootable usb stick for you) and a card reader in my netbook (yes I use a MSI wind with OSX )
well done dazcox.
can you please describe the process people need to take to load up boot.img?
eg. recovery screen, wipe, flash G1 ROM, reboot, let ROM load, reboot into fastboot, flash boot.img,.. and the required commands etc.
might be annoying, but it'll help to answer the flood of questions that your answer has brought
presumably as each new ROM produces changes we will need to edit the boot.img each time, as they may contain updates, yah?
Yes, I would assume each time new release we make the change.
My Process was this.
download the scripts from http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
(beware if on OSX google and download newer cpio utility and copy to /usr/bin)
Download JAChero 2.7.3 full from dream forum
rename downloaded file to update.zip and copy to sd
on computer open update.zip and extract boot.img
Use unpack-bootimg.pl boot.img to extract the kernel and ramdisk
in the ramdisk dir rename init.trout.rc to init.sapphire.rc
repack-bootimg.pl boot.img-kernel.gz boot.img-ramdisk boot1.img
On your phone reboot to recovery (I use amon ra recovery from this forum)
BACKUP (nandroid is your saviour)
wipe
apply update.zip
reboot, but go straight to fastboot (vol down + power)
in fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot1.img
reboot
enjoy
*decide you want to try something else and start all over again*
For me who already have JACHero 2.7.3 installed with the cyanogen kernel, can I just flash the boot.img or do I need to make a complete wipe and include it into the update.zip?

I might later, probably not though, as it's really easy to do.
I've followed the steps, and after flashing the boot1.img adn rebooting, the phone is really taking forever.

Any tips?
I had from before a class 6 card with 3 partitions, FAT, ext2 and swap (in that order).
Thanks

With the new update all predone all that needs doing is the partitioning of the sd card to be fat32 + ext2 then update rom in normal way, correct?

The only thing is that Bluetooth A2D2 mode (playing music) doesn't seem to work. It says "playing media through bluetooth headset" but I get no sound. Can anyone confirm that this is working for you? If so maybe I will need to wipe and reinstall anyway.

[UTIL] Full Auto A2SD - A2VD

Apps 2 Virtual Disk 0.53b
For those of you that are wondering "What is this guy smoking?" (which I assume is all of you), this is an automatically re-sizing virtual apps 2 SD ext3 partition. It is stored as an image file on your existing Fat32 partition.
I have done my best to make this as idiot proof and bug free as possible but I always appreciate constructive criticism. Please be kind, I haven't had access to a computer while writing this so it was written entirely on my G1. Therefore I expect that it will have a few bugs.
This barrows very heavily from Cyanogen's work so please thank him for making this possible.
Installing
To install the utility just download the file on your phone, open your terminal emulator and run:
Code:
su
sh /sdcard/download/a2vd-0.53b.zip
It does the rest.
Please note, this is NOT a zip file! It is a shell script. XDA won't let you post any file this big unless it's a zip file. (Can we get an Admin on this?) Good thing linux doesn't give a crap about file extensions.
Once you reboot your phone the utility will create the virtual partition, move over your apps, then re-size the partition to have 15 MB of free space. Please note, it will reboot 3 - 4 times during the first boot.
This should run on any rom that executes /system/bin/a2sd during boot.
It has been confirmed to work on Cyanogen 3.5.2 and higher.
Automatic Resizing
The partition will automatically re-size so you don't have to guess how big you need to make it. Now you can take a bite out of crime, in stead of your Fat32 partition. ;-)
If you run low on space just reboot your phone. If the free space on your virtual partition is less than 10 MB or more than 20 MB it will be re-sized to have 15 MB of free space. Please ignore the fact that free space may be listed as 13 or 14 MB, as far as I can tell this is an issue with the OS, the readout becomes more accurate as the partition gets bigger.
Disabling the Partition
If you wish to boot up with the Apps 2 Virtual Disk partition disabled simply open up your terminal emulator and run:
Code:
su
a2sdoff
You can also remove the SD card while the phone is off.
This is useful if you need to transfer files over USB cable.
Automatic backup
If you boot with the partition disabled the utility will backup some system settings so your apps and widgets will all still work when you re-enable the partition. It will also maintain a separate launcher profile for when you boot with the partition disabled. Now you don't have to stare at a desktop full of broken icons every time you need to transfer files to your computer.
Upgrading to a New Rom
Transitioning to a new rom can break some of your apps and widgets. To prevent this follow this procedure:
1. Place your new update.zip file on the root of your SD card.
2. Open terminal emulator and run:
Code:
su
a2sdoff -u
This will reboot your phone, prepare the backups, and take you to recovery.
3. Flash your new rom. (If you exit recovery without flashing you must re-run "a2sdoff -u" before attempting another flash)
4. Boot up your new rom, open terminal emulator and re-install Apps2VD.
Okay, you can start downloading now.
Thank you for your support and enjoy!
As a side note, If you install this on a phone that already has a traditional Apps2SD partition it will NOT copy over your apps. I'm working on it but until then you'll have to either just deal with it or copy them you self.
Edit: Download has been removed due to security concerns. Will re-upload when solved.
Sweet !....so basically it allows app2sd without an ext partition ? so just a fat32 partition is gud enough right ?
this is really intriguing, but i think i'm gonna hold off until some brave souls try it out with some feedback

Performance is identical. The primary reason I built this is to have an automatically re-sizing apps partition. And the ability to boot disabled without breaking all of my widgets.

It seems suprising to me that an image file on a FAT32 partition would perform the exact same way as an ext partition. I guess I will have to find out for myself
If this really does work and perform well, this could be google's solution to allow non rooted phones the ability to free up memory on their phone.
Either way, thanks for taking the time to do this.

Yes, it will. And it would probably have a similar problem on later Cyanogen builds. You will have to modify the a2sd file to tell it not to automatically create apps2sd.

this is really interesting, thank you for this. earlier today i made a modified a2sd script that makes the a2sd look for dev/block/mmcblk0p4 (fourth partition) and since there is none cyanogen's apps2sd will not be created. also in the file is a modified userinit.sh and user.conf that point to dev/block/mmcblk0p2 instead of 0p3 so that if you wanted to use this and only have a fat32 partition and linux-swap partition you could still get the benefits of it. saw this thread and thought this would be a place where these files could be used.
edit: was just thinking, does this overwrite the a2sd script? either way the modded userinit.sh and user.conf can still help.

Yes this does replace /system/bin/a2sd and it stops checking for 0p2. It is based entirely off Cyanogen's a2sd that is used in every new rom out there and should be compatible with all of them.
Has anyone tested this yet? Which roms does it work on?
How does this work with mounting your phone on your computer? Like when you want to put music on. Can you do it the same way or do you have to shut your phone down and use a SDcard reader? Because I thought the was the main reason for not using fat32 for A2SD.

There are two ways: SuperOneClick or Universal Androot. SuperOneClick is a Windows program and I haven't used it. Universal Androot is an app you install and run on the phone but it's not in the market so you have to sideload it. Basically, you copy the Universal Androot apk onto the sdcard ans use a filemanager (such as Astro or ES--both free in the market) on the phone to run/install it. I prefer Universal Androot, but there are many fans of SuperOneClick.

My recommendation is to start with Dexter's 1.3 first before going to the more recent ones. Installing Dexter's 1.3 will setup your phone and familiarize you with the tools and skills you will need to install the others.

I think you're ready to install Khal's v4. Download personaRedV4.rar. Inside it you will see a folder called personaRedV4 that contains a boot.img, boot.md5, system.img and system.md5. This is a nandroid image. Copy that folder to /sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery/personaRedV4. To install it use
OpenRecovery > nandroid > Restore > personaRedV4 > restore all
then wipe data and cache.
It looks like there are a few updates to personaRedV4. Updates are zip files (theupdate.zip) that you don't extract. Instead you just copy the zip file into /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates/theupdate.zip and use
OpenRecovery > Apply Update > theupdate.zip
to apply. What you have to do after applying an update depends on what the update does. It's always a good habit to wipe dalvik cache after applying an update. Some more extensive updates may require wiping data and cache or clearing an application's data. The thread where the update is posted should tell you what other steps are needed.

Hi
Why would we need that partition ? Does it serve any important purpose ?
you should see khal rom thread for further details...its about linux thingy....as i know ext3 its kind of partition/space in sdcard to 'receive' apps that install to phone memory...its kind of 'sharing'.....i'm also still learning linux thingy...

It used to be very helpful for freeing internal storage. But...
On the recent Froyo ROMs (khalpowers and Dexter+bugfix-v3) we now use a "memhack" to relocate the /data/dalvik-cache directory to /cache/dalvik-cache (also internal). The /cache partition is large and mostly empty (used for intermediate market downloads and OTA updates--of course we're not getting any OTA updates ) ...so moving dalvik-cache there frees 50-70MB+ from /data and makes more efficient use of the internal memory (/cache otherwise sits around with ~100MB empty, quite a waste). In Motorola's Froyo ROM for the Motoroi they've tweaked the partition sizes to reduce the size of /cache and increase the size of /data--but we can't do that because of the locked bootloader.
Personally, I've stopped using my sd-ext partition at all. I'd wait until you run out of internal memory/cache space before bothering with sd-ext.

One more thing, does the V4 rom have the camera update?
I'm sorry but should I also apply fastboot?
I Put V4 and did the necessary updates accordingly and my data connectivity was not working. I tried to restore dexter's v1.3 and then cleared dalvik cache alone and now my phone has gone into boot loop, I think I have to put the stock rom back on. Is that the only go?

If you can get into Open Recovery, there's no reason to flash the Motorola stock ROM. Try: wipe data / cache in Open Recovery after applying a nandroid system.img.

[Q] Rooting Xperia E3 D2203 (4.4.4)

Hello everyone... I recently updated my phone to 4.4.4 via flashtool. It's obvious that it's unrooted now as it's on stock kernel. Is there any chance that anyone is going to make a custom kernel to root D2203 variant with 4.4.4 installed?? Plz let me know asap. Badly need root. Storage issues. Gotta need Link2SD for moving apps and removing bloatware for storage restoration. And it's a root demanding app as you know. Thanks.

Does this:
install "MiniTool Partition Wizard Free" then creates two partitions.
VERY IMPORTANT, defines the 2 partitions as PRIMARY.

Are you sure that your system is prepared to mount system as r/w?

Ya I using universal init.d. For now I have dropped the idea of creating partitions. There is no cwm kernel in my system. Maybe Root isn't working properly. I'll wait till someone develops a kernel for D2203 (4.4.4). that way root will work normally. Till then I'm just using it to convert some of the system apps to user apps and moving them to sd card. things are going fine for now. Got 1.4 gb free in internal. So let's wait and see if someone finally releases the cwm recovery for my model. Thanks btw.

I have 4.4.4 on D2203 with full root and without cwm. I have the "Link2SD Plus" working perfectly without any requirement of cmw!
My D2203 has the boot loader unlocked, does not have any cwm recovery installed, and only use the "Universal init.d" to run the "SYSTEM MOUNT FIX" so you can use without restriction "Link2SD Plus!
If you are not able to create links to the second Partition is because you are doing something wrong!

Ya you're right. I am probably doing something wrong. could you guide me thru the process which u applied for gaining system -rw ?? becoz I followed this guide
Fixing ability to mount system as r/w for D2203,D2206,D2243 (LTE)
THIS IS REQUIRED TO INSTALL XPOSED OR LINK2SD OR OTHER APPS WHICH WRITE ON SYSTEM
UPDATED
important - goto settings=>about phone tap on build number until it say,s no need, you are already a devloper. Then go back and open developer options and enable usb debugging
Step 0 - install BusyBox installer and Universal Init.d
Step 1 - Download this SYSTEM MOUNT FIX.zip and extract and run runme.bat
Step 2 - Now Open Universal Init.d Change Switch From Off to On
Step 3 - Now reboot and install busybox. (if busybox install it mean success and if it fail then ask me about it)
Now you can mount system as rw!!!
And according to it, I did everything written in it. Did i do some step wrong?
What all do you do in Universal Init.d? Because I only turned the switch on after runnnig the batch command in the computer from the post of vinay.. the developer. So if you could plz guide me thru the steps which you took after installing 4.4.4 and Superuser. Coz I'm also using Link2sd plus . I suppose that size of the SD card doesn't matter right? Because I'm making partition of 1 gb out of a 2 gb SD card.

Does the following:
1 Flash any firmware (18.5.C.0.19 UK)
2 Download and copy to the root of the sd card SuperSU.zip
3 Connect you phone to your pc in Fastboot mode (Turn off your phone and connect usb while pressing vol up)
4 Click on SELECT KERNEL TO FLASH KERNEL CHOOSER WINDOW will open now click on *.sin and change it to *.img Now Select BOOT_D2203_4.4.2.img(Click Here To Download BOOT_D2203_4.4.2.img) and select open KERNEL WILL BE FLASHED
5 Now disconnect USB and press power button on phone. Phone will vibrate with purpule notification light press vol up and down untill you see CWM recovery.
6 Select INSTALL ZIP IN CWM
7 Select 2nd option which is chose zip From /S..... now navigate to UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.zip and press power button.
8 now go back to first page and go to Advance and choose Power Off option --> Fix Root and then connect usb press vol down.
9 You will see Flashtools say Device Connected in FlashMode Now click on Thunder Button.
10 And select FLASH MODE and Click OK Select Firmware and in Wipe Menu Remove mark From CACHE AND DATA and in Exclude Menu Mark All but not Kernel. Now Click on Flash button.
11 After Flash Remove USB and Boot Device.
After all this, we only have half "root"!
Now we get the full root!
IMPORTANT- goto settings=>about phone tap on build number until it say,s no need, you are already a devloper. Then go back and open developer options and enable usb debugging
Step 1 install Universal Init.d
Run the Universal init.d (it is normal for error!)
Step 2 - Download this SYSTEM MOUNT FIX.zip and extract and run runme.bat
VERY IMPORTANTE! RUN MULTIPLE TIMES THE "RUN ME" TO STOP APPEARING ERROR MESSAGE! (I RUN 3 TIMES!)
See the attached image
Step 3 - Now reboot and install busybox. (if busybox install it mean success and if it fail then ask me about it)
If you followed all the steps correctly should appear in the list of scripts "Universal init.d" something called "NS".
Good luck and excuse my English.
