WM6 Requiring contant screen calibration? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I am using NBD 8.1 on my cingular 8125 and I am having to constantly calibrate the screen. Basically every time I wake the phone up, I have to calibrate. Also, during the calibration, it does not always recognize my taps. Does this mean my phone is messed up or is this a common problem when using WM6 on the wizard? Also, if my phone is messed up, how do I return it to the original condition so cingular will honor my warranty (besides loading stock ROM)?

I have used this ROM on two different 8125's without problems. Before installing the 8.1 ROM, did you flash to an OEM ship ROM? The T-Moblie 2.26 is recommended here in the forum. I used the 2.07 QTEK ROM to avoid some of the missed calls and radio problems reported by others.

Yes, I have. I have tried both the T-mobile official one (IPL SPL 2.26) and the Cingular one (IPL SPL 2.25) and both give me this problem. So this isn't normal I take it? Probably a hardware issue right?

I am experiencing the same thing, do you have a screen protector on your screen?

debris
One thing ive noticed is that if I dont leave the phone in my case this will happen WAAYYYYY too often. I smoke and the little tobacco bits love to lodge themselves in between the screen and case thus "pushing" on the screen. I agree this is very annoying and recommend keeping it in your case on your hip. I also got some really thick 3M screen protectors; I dont know if this helps b/c I never have my Wiz in my pocket.
Hope this helps!

tsumi83's got it right. This is a hardware problem usually caused by particles getting between the screen and case.
Best solution is to slide a piece of paper in gap between case and screen to get the gunk out. You'll be surprised how much junk comes out especially if you keep your Wizard in your pant pocket.
By the way, after getting the junk out, you'll need to re-align.

Thanks for the tip. I used a note card to get everything out and it seems more accurate than ever. I always keep it in my link filled pockets with no screen protector. Do you think a screen protector would help the lint and other stuff from building up?

HTC Models with Screen Alignment problems

Seems that the HTC line has several models that have a problematic screen alignment issue. While shopping for a new phone it would be good to know which models might be prone to this, and which aren't. Also whether or not the carrier, supplier, or HTC themselves is helpful in resolving it. I did not find a post like this that attempts to identify all of these things.
In addition to the poll questions here's what I think would be helpful to others:
Model on which problem is found?
Has there been a solution for your model that is known to permanently address the issue, and if so what is it?
heh what a wackd pole
all it needs is a
*do you believe in pixis
and it's don
personaly i only align my screen when i hardreset it beause i reflash
had a xda1 and xda2
ok...dumb question ..perhaps...how would one know that he/she has a screen alignment problem ? what are the symptoms ?
i've had to realign my screen just once, ever since i've had my htc universal (about 6 monthes or so).
one of the reason why your screen sometimes misalign is the edges of your screen are dirty.. cleaning the LCD from the 4 corners of the screen including the edges inside that was covered by case should be clean.
I read that, and checked it. I also tried pushing on the screen, outward in the direction of all four corners. Neither helped. I don't carry my phone in my pocket unless it is in its aluminum case so it doesn't get a lot of lint or dust on it anyway. And my problems didn't start until recently. I haven't changed the way I use or carry the phone, or the frequency in which it rides in my pocket or gets cleaned. In addition I've had more than a dozen touchscreen devices over the years and this is the first that has required frequent and regular screen alignments. While I don't disagree that lint and pocket debris can cause the same problem in extreme cases, I also feel that there is more at work here than just that. Just my $.02
Hi guys, seems that HTC is not worth our money, I bought 3 HTCs and all come down to the same problem SCREEN ALIGNMENT ISSUES. Let them learn how not cheat their customers.

HELP: I (think) I killed my fuze!

So I guess I'm the only idiot that's dropped his Fuze... Well maybe not the only, but the first that dropped it in such a way to not cause any (visible) physical damage, but enough to make the phone inoperable. Fair enough, I can accept the Dunce cap for this one.
The Phone works, receives calls/messages, even sync's with Activesync. Just one problem, The screen is black. The backlight turns on, but no image is displayed. Not even any of the boot screens. Sounds work, I sync'ed up all my data, everything seems fine, except for the screen.
So here is my Dilemma: Is there anything I can do to fix the phone? Or Am I going to have to re-flash the device to factory settings and try to call att/htc to get a replacement for a device that "just stopped working"?
I'd rather fix it myself just to avoid dealing with the carrier/manufacturer, but if that's my only option than so be it. Please Advise.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
You can try MyMobiler:
http://www.brothersoft.com/mymobiler-116759.html
But there might be something to accept/allow on the cellphone itself to see the screen. So maybe you can navigate to something on your phone to get it to work. Other than that, I have no idea.
Good luck, maybe reflashing doesn't seem like too bad of an idea.
sell it to me, its broken
Happened to my Kaiser, screen was white though, rather than black.
Take all the data off you can with MyMobiler and reflash a stock rom. Should still be covered under warranty. I did the exact same thing with my Kaiser.
Flashed the standard ATT upgrade rom, brought it in to warranty replacement and said the screen randomly turned white.
In and out in a few minutes with a new Kaiser. He made me keep my old battery back.
Because it is a problem where no physical damage is apparent, it will be difficult for them to determine if it is simply a manufacture defect where the screen went bad or if it is user accidental.
I actually dropped my Fuze for the first time last night (or this morning, I dont recall). My best friends girlfriend clothelined me while I was texting and the phone went flying, back fell off and battery chucked out. Slid across the ground for a bit. A tiny dent in a corner and some nice scratches on the stock screen protector, other than that A-okay. Invisible shield helped quite a bit ^.^
(I use invis body shield and stock screen protectors, the IS is a strange texture and too grippy for a screen protector)
I have dropped my Touch PRO about 5 times to tarmac while getting out from the car but nothing happened yet
do you have insurance on the phone? if you do, then its covered otherwise it is unfortunate.. all new phones, especially ppc's I insure with my local SF insurance.. that is the rule.

Same exact thing happened to me minus the clothesline. Landed on the corner, back and battery popped out, powered it back up and black screen of death. Didn't want to wait till tomorrow to get it replaced but oh well, I'll be even more careful than I already am with it. I just need to reflash it to the stock ROM/SPL now. Thankfully I still have my Tilt as a backup.

I do have insurance, when they offered it at the Store I almost said yes before the rep finished explaining it. So I'll just reflash it to a stock ROM/SPL and get it replaced tomorrow.
If you guys have the fuze through AT&T then you can get warranty replacements quite easily as long as there isn't obvious physical damage suggesting user abuse, ie no crushed screens, liquid damage, etc.
Someone here might suggest that this is unethical abuse of the warranty exchange system, but I will vehemently disagree! Cell phones should absolutely be able to withstand occasional drops from pocket level to concrete, as this is a quite common occurence. Hell, my laptop was designed to be able to take a fall from a table top.
So I would suggest you call AT&T and tell them your screen just stopped working one day. Say you've done a hard reset and everything else they'll suggest you try, and they'll send you a refurb in the mail with a box to send yours back in. I would suggest reflashing the stock rom and spl before returning, though.
BTW, if I were to guess about the cause for the inoperable screen, it would be that the lcd connector came loose in the jolt from the fall. So if for some reason warranty exchange isn't an option, perhaps you could venture into the guts of your device and try firmly reseating the connector...

I think my digtizer has detached slightly

I have this weird issue i have only just noticed. In the middle of my screen, there is almost a perfect rectange of slightly discoloured, rainbowy effect on the screen. It is right in the centre of the screen, and goes to aout 1cm from the edge the whole way round.
Its like the digitizer has detached or pushed up against the screen. I cant remember doing anything to it. And if i run my finger over it, the rainbow effect moves/follows my finger then snaps back to the rectangle (kind of like when you have a bubble under a screen protector).
Also the area under this spot is slightly less sensitive and seems to be giving the odd random input.
Do you rekon this would be covered under warranty? I cant remember doing anything to the screen, and the fact is so pefectly placed in the middle of the screen.
Hey,
Mine does this as well... It's a perfect rectangle, and only visible in strong (especially flourescent) light. Can't notice any differences in input though. Interested to see what people think, and if it's a common problem. Can't remember any incident that could have led to this, I take care of my phone.
In case it helps, it's a UK Vodafone Touch Pro, with the latest HTC WWE ROM.
I have had a similair effect but not a perfect rectangle. somewhere mid screen slightly to the right I had a bubble of rainbow colour. I actually thought it was underneath the screenprotector so i bought a new one to change it. To my surprise the bubble was still there but internally.
I used to have my phone with the protective leather thingy in my jeans. I decided to take it out for a while. And what do you know. after a day the bubble dissapeared. I then put it back in my jeans and checked every hour. The bubble came back. So i'm guessing pressure on the glass internally or something.
Nowadays I dont carry it around in my tight jeans anymore. I use the protective leather that came with it and put it in my jacket pocket instead.
Edit: It has all the attributes xternal listed. The bubble that is.. less responsive random input rainbow following finger. In my case it has been due to pressure on the screen from my tight jeans. Yours might be something else though...
thanks for replies guys, sounds identical to what i have. i thought it was screen protector too, took it off to clean and noticed it was below. wasted blue, i was almost about to edit my post to include exactly what you said about flourescent light.
maybe it has happened from being in my tight jeans, strange that wasted blue and i have the same sized area though.
i have a fuze.
Mine is the Htc Touch Pro from HI, KPN Netherlands.
Xternal i would suggest you don't keep your phone in your jeans for a while and see if the bubble dissapears. Might take a few days at first. just put it in your jacket or something. If it dissapears you know what it is. I don't think this will fall under warranty. if it sticks regardless of pressure you might get warranty...
Oeh i just remember. If the backlight is out you will see a blacker than black dot on the screen where the bubble is supposed to be. if the light goes on its rainbowy fluorecent.
Thanks King, i have taken the protector off and will keep it out of my pocket. The pattern is the same if the backlight is on or off. Id post a photo, but its really hard to get it to show up in a photo.
Im of the opinion now that as you say, the digitizer is pushed against the screen, not detached. Hopefully it pops back
Hey guys.. same issue for a lot of people
It is something like this:
http://contactus.htc.com/Download.aspx?TicketID=396548&ReplyID=2&FileName=IMGP6088.jpg
Look at what HTC told me:
New Response From [ Cathy (Malaysia Support (Tech)) ]
Dear xxxx,
We regret to inform you that based on our warranty policy, we can not provide you the free repair on this issue.
If the touch window having some rainbow mark, it is caused by extra force enter to the touch window and it is under user misused. Thus, there is no Warranty Provided.
Thanks.
Best regards.
HTC
After some rants:
Thank you for contacting HTC. With reference to your query, we understand you are upset for this issue. But according to the HTC warranty policy, the LCD is not covered by warranty. Please check the attachment for HTC warranty policy. For the "newton rings" issue, we recommend you send it to service center to replace the LCD. Thanks.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try keeping it out of my jeans pocket for a while. Sounds like this "newton ring" problem in the other therads though. I'd tried replacing the screen protector as well before, but no joy there. Might need to try to get a replacement (took out insurance on it), but guess I'd need to flash back to the carrier ROM.
Anybody know how good Vodafone UK's insurance is about newton rings?
Just read kingpinda's post again, when my backlight is off I can still see the rings, so doesn't sound like the same problem. I'll still try it though, thanks.

Did I brick my Phone? Your opinion is requested

Hello all, I just recently reflashed my Fuze (raph100) with the energy rom (21901.Sense2.1.Apr.25.7z) and it was working fine, but I was having some issues so I decided to reflash it. However, this time where it says tap the screen, it is not responding and I can't calibrate it. Have I bricked my phone? Well probably not, I can probably simply replace the screen if its a hardware issue, but what if its a software wise? I am going to try to flash the TPC Fuze V3.1 rom and see if that resolves it, but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Oh on a related note, there seems to be some liquid inside the screen, it started off as two dots but one of those dots has grown and is kind of spreading across, is this liquid coming internally? Is my phone a goner? Thanks for your time.
We are sure that its not caused by flashing.....

Maybe the liquid thats inside your screen broke the touchscreen?
Okay so it turns out i found some other threads talking about liquid under the screen, and their method to fix it was to use duct tape on the screen and pull it up. This not only alleviated the liquid issue underneath (still a little wet but not the blob) but it also fixed my touchscreen issue. I have had to use this trick a few times due to screen becoming non responsive but hey its better than throwing it away. I looked up a guide on replacing the digitizer and lcd screen and it really doesn't look like its worth it. Ugh wish they had planned the assembly to be more user friendly. I appreciate the help though thanks.
lol do you have to carry a roll of duct tape around? lol jk
but incase you needa get a digitzier they sell for like 15-20 bucks on ebay. not bad
lol i was carrying around a roll of duct tape in my car, and let me tell you it was getting quite annoying since the tape kept losing its sticking power. Also, it wouldn't be very long before i had to do it again, became so tedious went back to my old phone. I did some shopping around and found a place in Southern California that will fix it for $75 parts and labor included. Sweet. It's too bad I bought it used for 130 lol, oh well $205 bucks is not bad for an unlocked phone with no contract right? Anyway, I don't believe it's the digitizer that's bad, but the broken LCD crystals that fill the device with liquid that prevent the digitizer from recognizing that its not always being depressed. What do you think?
So it's not only me having this crappy liquid problem thing.. I've got this blue looking blob thing under the screen and it's stuffing the touchscreen up.. I use my screen protector instead of the duct tape.. lol the screen protector doesn't lose its stickness for some reason.. :S

Dust under screen & touchscreen problems linked?

I was wondering that if these two flaws goes together. If dust can go under screen -maby there is a too big of a gap between parts and the touchscreen connection isnt good etc. Personally I dont have neither one and my phone sits in my pocket all-day-along. So fill in the poll (if I manage to put it in) and lets see if there is something to see.
If you keep your phone so the dust problem is unlikely to appear, please DO NOT answer the poll because this would skew the results.
I think they could be linked since I only got bad touchscreen when my dust contamination level rose from 1 spec of dust to 3 and a batch on the right side. Immediately the next day I felt the touchscreen become unresponsive.
Although that day when I first spotted the increase of dust amount in the screen, touchscreen worked as intended. I only started experiencing lazy touchscreen the day after that.
Maybe somehow specs of dust get "electricized" and affect the touchscreen operation?
I don't see how this could be affected by dust, as the touch layer is glued to the glass, while the lcd is just a screen which displays stuff dust doesn't come through the touch layer. I think it's due to static buildup in the phone.
Edit: also i got the faulty touch screen issue after a week, but it disappeared again, and now i don't have it anymore

No, it's not linked
I have my sensation in puch always when not in use, and there is no dust/any other stuff that could go into phone.
When I got my first sensation it had some dust or dirt whatever under the screen already, they replaced it in few days, now I have this new and it took 2weeks for something to get under there again.
Going to return/replace this again soon.
not good, not good at all!
I queryed htc about that and they answered that return/replace it at the shop, and that what the sop did nice and fast.
I wanted to check if my phone was s-on or s-off so I booted into bootloader (alas, it was s-on), but after I rebooted back into normal mode, touchscreen returned back to normal. No more touchscreen issues.
Very strange, I will be testing it further.
