i was complaining about battery draining when my prophet is connected to USB (although it shows charging).. then i upgraded to IPL 2.20 as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315016
the upgrade doesn't change the ROM, only upgrades the IPL/SPL to 2.20
after rebooting, i noticed it started to actually charge the battery on the USB connection. i rarely carry the power charger, but always carry my laptop and USB cable so that's big deal for me
turned out during my initial upgrade to different ROM's, PDAV, Gullum V3 then V5, I never actually did the process of upgrading the IPL/SPL
thought this may help. if others complaining of same issue can try and confirm?
(BTW, upgrade only works on XP... or at least for me)
cheers

I can confirm this. Had the same problems with no charging via USB. Only the original power charger was working.
Just upgraded to ipl/spl 2.20 and its charing again while connected to my pc
Will also test with the usb charger in my car, which also made problems after upgrading to WM6.
i have the same problem. When i try to charge my phone ( usb/ or power) it doesn't work. But if i reset the phone after connecting the cable, it starts recharging.

Hi,
Can somebody tell me how to charging the battery when there is no
OS on the PPC.
I need a full battery to upgrade or flash a rom version on the PPC.
With a low battery it gives error when i want to flash a rom on the PPC.
Plz. help me.
Thnx,
Alfa156 :?:
Why not just connect it to the external power?
Flashing is always safest whilst connected to a power supply.

Also, you can charge battaries from USB by mini-USB cable. OS does not needed to charge.
Hi XShell,
What do you meen with charchinging with the mini USB?
I have tried with the USB cable from my MDA connected with yhe desktop
and i tried the battery charger with the adapter and the mini USB connector at the other end, and both methods doesn't works.
Normally you get a orange led when it's charging the battery but both method it's not burning.
So please tell me what you meen.
Thnx,
Alfa156
Here's the way to charge battery directly from charger.
This method was invented by Jasse from PDAclub.pl, BIG THANKS to him
Scheme is in the attachment. You need some charger, it must be between 3-6v. Cut off the plug, then connect red cable to minus, and black/white or other to plus. Hold the cables in that position for 2-3 minutes then try to flash. Remember: If battery will get too hot disconnect it immidietly.
YOU DOING THIS AT YOU OWN RISK
Hi J-A-J-O,
How must i hold the battery?
Should i hold it with the text up or down?
Thnx,
Alfa156
Here's the 3d painting Now every thing is clear.
Seems like your charge controller is dead...
And flashing ROM wouldn't help, i think.
Btw , since allways , Red = + and Black = -
Perhaps someone is reinventing the electronic way
of electrons working???
Cheers

Actually, I think the OS has to be present to allow charging. I noticed mine wouldn't charge until everything was fully operational when I was updating my ROM. The lack of charging capability is one reason the guides say to fully charge the magician before attempting a ROM upgrade.
Hi J-A-J-O,
I think the reply that red is plus and the black is minus is correct in the standard electricity.
I also tried to charged the bat directly with a adapter both in two ways
I meen that the plus and minus i have switched it but both way i didn't get any results.
So anyone please help me.
Thnx,
Alfa156
You should try to charge battarie in other Magician (from friend or others).
I also have charged in both ways, but black - minus, red - plus is 100% correct, I already change it on my pic. When I finnaly turn my magician on, the battery was charged in 90% so this method works. You can try to hold cables longer example for 5 minutes, but disconnect when battery will get warm
You still can't turn device on, you can try my method with battery cover
Guys, i think i have a problem with my Qtek 8310.
Whenever i try to charge it with the charger, it will show the amber light indicating its charging from some time and after that it will just shutoff itself and start to blink in red light.
i tried to charge the qtek battery with my other smartphone (SPV C500) its charging properly. I tried to charging it with other charger also, unfortunately no luck.
i started encountering this problem only yesterday onwards.
nowadays, i am charging it through my computer USB and it charges without any problem. Anybody had this problem or heard of a problem like this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks
Krishna
hi, I have the same problem with my 8310 (1 month old)
the AC adapter doesnt work correctly with the phone
I thought of using another adapter, but I see that you already tried this
the only solution that my retailer gave me, is to make it exchange..
I have the same problem, but if I connect the wifi when I charge it, it works fine....
Really weird problems... Do these happen even when you use the original chargers? Maybe should go back to the store...
I have the same, but i upgrade to Imate ROM 2.5. It fix problem. Now charging well.
I have received a 8310 with the USB-miniUSB cable. I am trying to use it for the first time. When I first started it, it powered on, showed windows mobile, and afte that the battery died, so I cannot power it on. I am trying to charge it with this USB cable. Is it possible when the phone is off?
Should it start charging it when I plug it in in the PC USB port?
And how much time does it need to be fully charged when charging from PC over USB cable?
I got a brand new tytn, and after 2 days i noticed a strange problem:
after a soft reset i plug my miniusb wall charger ( but it's the same with car cherger) and tytn start to charge. If I unplug and plug again my pda doesn't charge until i press the on/off button. Then if i switch on tytn it stops to charge.
No problem when i plug and unplug on my pc where i have activesync, so i think it's a software problem. Any suggestion
up
Same problem here, nobody has a suggestion?
I had this problem. Drove me crazy in the car when trying to use Garmin. Had same problem with JasJar but NOT with the K-Jam.
Its not a cable or charger current issue cause most USB ports only supply 500mA.
Try this and see if it works for you as it did me...
Plug in your cig lighter charger, whilst connected, reset the TyTn.
After that, mine started to work fine!! Weird EH?
i don't have charger .can i use USB for it?thank you
With WM6, yes, it works.
With WM5, no...

Some guy in a different forum said that his 750 charged even with WM5. He said that you didnt hear the charging soud nor did you see the charging battery icon but that his charge gradualy went up. I havent noticed this myself though....
I can confirm that my WM5 750v does charge using the USB sync cable. No noise, no charging light, but it does charge.
Works on my WM6 ROM.
it doesn't ,because i put it on charger all night, battery 30%!
mat gues is that USB cable give it enough power not to discharge while conected but not to charge so if ur treo is inactive while on usb cable it will charge slowly
but if e-mail get deliwered over GPRS/EDGE etc, Alarms going off incoming text meseges coming and other things that force device to activate it will not charge.
maybe turning off Phone bit of treo (holding red button) will help charging through USB !!
P.S am not shure about these its just my idea !!!!
Yes, have to admit it is slow.
On WM5 I have seen my Treo charge on USB when connected to some computers but not others. On WM6 it works on all of my computers.
Don't some USB hosts have an optional higher voltage line, but not all do? Maybe WM5 requires the higher voltage, but WM6 works on either?
I don't really know what I'm talking about (yet) but I know I did see my Treo750 charge on USB on WM5 in some cases.
Tried this for myself. WM5 ATT Treo 750. Plugged it in to USB with a 75% charge. Phone off and active sync turned off. 100% charged in the morning although there were no indicators that it was charging.
Windows XP (SP2) desktop computer. USB 2.0
If it's like every other HTC device made in the last 10 years, there's no reason it shouldn't charge via USB, albeit slowly
Guys,
I'm having a problem with my wizard. I update the room ( wm5 to wm6 )
and since then I can only charge ( very slowly ) from USB
The wall charger ( a motorola one ) don't work on wizard.
I already tested others charger and tested the motorola charger in others
devices ( a mp3 and another motorola phone ) and it work.
Could this be a problem with flashing ?
I already tryed to flash another roms, even flash to a wm5 official
Is ther any app that inspect battery or usb-port to see if everything is ok ?
Note: This is NOT anything related to battery below 1% and wizard went dead.
ipl 2.26
spl 2.26
gsm 02.25.11
os 11.0.4.0
Thanks in advance
Solved
Guys,
I just bought an original HTC charger and now it's working. Solved.
Thx anyway.
Interesting. I have the same problem with my wall charger. It actually kills the battery instead of charging it. I can charge on usb or car no problem. Must be a bad wall charger.
Probably a 500mA charger, some phones won't charge with 500mA (the charger that is supplied with my HTC wizard is 1000mA)
