Hi,
im trying to help my girlfren over the phone she has a prophet (i have the same one) when she tries to install applications it says that the program can not be installed, to storage card and to device. at the moment her prophet will not sync with activesync either so she is using the explore function to drop the cab files on her prophet.
she has tried to install Jeyo SMS Backup and also the HTC fix for usb connectivity, my initial diagnosis is that she may be short of program memory however would like a few more ideas to try before i talk to her on the phone tonight - please
Cheers
Jonni
EDIT: recently her alarm has started going off and the only way to shut it up is to disable and reenable the speaker (reset doesnt work) she cannot sync with active sync either and she ideally needs to back up her calender before hard reset. does this give you any ideas to the problem/?
anyone please?

hard reset - done! all working now cheers
closing thread.
Hey guys.
I seem to be having an error message popup on my phone about 3/4 of the time once I reboot. (see attached image)
Usually hitting wait works, but sometimes i have to force close it.
I have JFs 1.41
I thought at first it was due to the fact that I removed several stock apps (amazon mp3, calculator & alarm clock)
I also removed my entire stock ringtones folder.
So I put everything back in its place.
However, I still have the same issue!
I also tried debugging with dalvik. Didn't get much...
Anyone know whats goin on?
TIA
EDIT: Also, just wondering if theres a way to reset the phone without losin all my apps. Other than backup, i'm trying to avoid installing all of em again ;0.
I get the same error on startup
Just to add my 2 cents... I have as well removed the Alarm Clock, and Amazon MP3, and the stock ringtones (but left the folders intact & put my own tones in). I am running JF1.41, and have never seen this message.
Did you do a Nandroid backup before you started messing with things? If so, you can simply restore that, otherwise.... You would have to re-install everything in order to do a factory reset.
Have you tried going to Manage Applications - Media Storage - and clearing the data?
I would try doing a full wipe of the phone and see if the problem continues.
Just my 2 cents

Yea I've tried clearing the data. Its not fixin it tho. I have several nandroid backups. I would do a wipe but wouldn't that get rid of my apps?
Thanks guys.
restoring a nandroid backup to a time when you didn't have this issue would be the best bet, you would only lose the changes you have made since that backup.

Well I had my apps and cache on my SDcard and after updating to JF 1.41 i had to do a wipe to get it to work, but after it was up and running I just replaced the mountd.conf and init.rc files and recreated the symolic links again and rebooted and all my programs were back. Just thought I would share cause this way pretty much worked for me to not have to reinstall all my apps... I'm still pretty new to all this so maybe there is a better way.. but this worked for me...
Unusual...
First I did a nandroid restore to the time a little after I got JF's 1.41. Everything was fine at first. I installed all of my apps. Tried to reboot a few times, and bam, I see it again.
In a rage--I wipe my fone from recovery mode. I then use MyBackup to restore all of my settings and apps.
I finish, and then i try a reboot and BAMMM ****in android.process.media is not responding.
Then I tried to reboot 3 more times wthout a problem and then the 4th time gave me the same problem.
Can anyone else whose having the same issue tell me what apps theyve recently installed?
Ive figured it out. But still stuck.
The problem was that i setup a symlink for my market cache to my sd card.
I removed the /data/data/com.android.vending/cache folder and my sd cards linked cache folder.
I then made a new cache directory in com.android.vending however I noticed that it wasnt working properly. It wasnt filling up with cache when i used the market.
I removed the symlink so why wouldn't it, right?
So I chmodded it.
I tried to chown it but i keep getting back unknown user app_5 (the markets ID)
I'm stuck please someone help me out here, and hopefully we can even get the market cache properly directed to my sdcard in the process.
THANKS!

try using the numeric id with chown instead. i.e. 10005 (not positive if it will work.. just something to try)
AHhh Yay JF ILY! That worked . I feel like a retard now.
The cache appears to be filling up as normal. The error isnt gone yet tho.
The question still remains. What causes that error?
How could i stop it?
The crashing process has the same gid/uid as Android.providers.media
it seems to be an app. I wiped and then I reinstalled 1.41. Then I installed all of my apps using mybackup. I made sure to do nothing else after, and I still got it.
Its either JF's 1.41 or an app.
How can I find out
Process of elimination. Wipe the phone again, instal jf's 1.41 and boot the phone. If you don't have the error, bingo, it's an app. Then, tedious as it may be, install the apps 1 at a time and reboot after install to see if you get the error.
Yeah I have done that.
However, its reallly hard because sometimes itll go 4-5 boots without a hitch, and then suddenly itll happen.
Then at other times it'll happen nearly every time.
I have about 65 apps. That's 4-5 boots, after installing each one.
So that would mean HUNDREDS of boots. At least 200.
I've been thinking that maybe its a problem with the MyBackup app.
What if the fact that mybackup overloads the phone with 20-30 installations at a time is whats causing the issues.
Well i'm off to error and error. I mean trial and error.
I've figured it out!
It's something to do with my wifi connection.
I think its that my dns's are from opendns.
Basically whenever my wifi is active when I turn on my phone i get that error.
If i turn it off and reboot into 3g, i never have a issue.
That's why it was so random before and I couldn't find any patterns!
I'm gonna call my ISP tomorrow, but anyone know what it could be?
I don't think it has anything to do with OpenDNS. I use JF1.41 RC30, MyBackup, and OpenDNS and never have any problems...
Hmm, do you have your router setup for opendns or your phone.
I have issues where i cant get my damn router to give out working IP's, so I
need to setup the phone for a static ip and dns.
I think that if I could get it to automatically get an IP i'd be set.
EDIT: Also, could it have anything to do with the fact that I have wpa personal security (AES)
Im having a similar problem but my error is slightly different
"com.google.process.gapps" anyone know WTF that is
Its the G Talk service.
If you dont use that app you could try removing it and see if that does anything ..
Since this has been bumped, i'd like to add that it still happens whenever I'm on wifi. Really blows

Care to explain how?? Im a serious noob lol
Hello,
No matter what application I would try to install, it would fail right away. I thought that maybe the last application I installed was the problem, so I went to uninstall it from the settings menu. When I got to the Remove Programs list, it was empty! I cannot install or uninstall applications!
The last program I was able to install was this: http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=3646
Can anyone help me fix this, or will I need to hard reset?
I gave up and just did a hard reset.
SKTools
Hi
for anybody else still facing this issue, SKTools may help you.
Cheers

i have same problem, i do tweak registry settings, but haven't for about 2 weeks before this problem happened. tried to use sktools to uninstall programs, but same result.
any suggestions? i do have a registered install of sktools for smartphone.
btw, im using a BJII with 6.1
Also, just realized i cant access the "about", "Accessability", or "owner info" info in "settings", it gives me "ERROR The settings could not be opened"
however, "version" and some others in the "settings" menu work fine (i haven't gone thru and tested all of them)
I have already performed a couple soft resets, with no change. seems like something pretty basic is F'ed. any ideas would be appreciated, i am planning to hard reset tonight if i dont get this taken care of...... So so much to re setup/install.... :-(
i did a hard reset, reflashed my bjII to the most recent 6.1 ROM. and now it is doing the same thing AGAIN!.
i have done no registry mods besides unlocking the keys ATT tries to restrict for their ghey medianet/cellularvideo links. and that has NEVER caused any issues before.
i Have installed:
NETCF3.5
Live Search
LEDAlertsSP
GoogleMapsMobile
Resco Explorer
Opera
SKTools
Increase Ringtone size to 25mb
the only app i haven't tried before is Twikini (a twitter app) it seems to work perfectly, but it is the only thing i have not had on my phone for an extended period of time.
Anyone with advice on how i can go about finding out what the real issue here is please lemme know.

Hello I think it wasnt necessary, I had the same problem twice, and flashed it again, and restored the rom and it keeped on non working. So the first thing i did was to unmount the sd card and mount it again and it worked for a while.
Afterwards I format microSD card- FAT32, other guy wrote in a forum with 4096.
here is the link hope it works for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124590
I receive warning about free space available.
But, I'm sure that I have more than 150Mb free space. (I have a little musics and vids)
Can I reset free storage file ?
Thanks
My device : HTC Mozart 7.0.7392
Hardware Version : 0004
I can give more information if necessary
I have literally had to reste mine 3 times hard reset to clear the memory, its jsut cache, apps etc.
If you want to hard resest it will become stcok factory condition. You will loose everything but it will give you all your memory. Turn your phone off and hold both + and - of the volume buttons and then turn the phone on, keep on holding them, then you will get onscreen instructions.
Thanks for your answer.
Are there not other solution ?
I don't want loose all my data...
Can I delete cache... manually without problem ?
I have explorator in my phone... thanks to give me all folders that I can empty

No I don't think you can.
There's no other way. Obviously, you can backup your data before formatting.
Even I have about 3GB of untitled used space for I don't know what. Anyone aware what this thing is?
one thing I have found is if you connect your phone to multiple comps (Even if it is just for charging) Zune allocates some memory to each of those connections.
I had to reset my phone once (I used to connect it up to three diff computers one for zune and two in office for charging some times) I had hardly 700 mb left and had to hard reset my phone.
Now I just connect to one computer and take a power cord to office to ensure that I dont connect to any other comp even if it is just for charging...
Memory
Did you try powering down and back up. this does a soft reset and has helped me out a couple of times.
I don't know if this has been covered already in other threads but i think i need to revert back to Lollipop. Unrooted 2/16GB us model stock LP received MM this morning. Phone is laggy, apps that worked perfectly in LP force close, some don't work at all. Third party apps call recorder, camera app, audio recording, dashcam, possibly other apps. I didn't get a chance to test everything. WiFi manager app shows networks only if i enable GPS. Every time i connect the phone to PC i need to pull down the notification tray menu and select how i want to connect for the external SD to be detected by PC. Extremely annoying. When i select 'file transfer' i see only one folder in external SD which i created before the update. I still have my files in SD and can see them in file manager, but not when connected to PC. This is ridiculous. LP wasn't bad. Now my G3 is useless. Thanks a lot, craporola!!!
Something is running in the background and draining the battery. The screen isn't on but feels very warm. I'm powering off until i figure out what's wrong with it after MM update.
so far the only thing I've noticed is that chrome beta, my default browser, jams up and stops responding every now and then. one time I even got a warning that it stopped responding and I could wait or close... never saw that before. weird

Sounds like you need to manually wipe the cache partition, and if that fails do a factory reset... And remember that some of those apps are going require special permissions in Marshmallow to work (such as Microphone, not all apps are given that permission by default).
I have been on MM for 2 weeks, and tried lots of apps just to see if I can get it to fail... everything has worked flawlessly. The fact the phone isn't sleeping and it's staying warm points to an app, the OS itself would not do that.
Don't get me wrong, the MM update has it's problems with stuff like USB MTP access, spotty BlueTooth issues, but nothing show stopping. Battery life is marginally worse in normal use, better when Doze mode's criteria can be met, but the screen is noticeably brighter and crisper.
Oh, and the USB access has a known fix... go to Apps, Show System Apps, and find "External Storage" and "Media Storage" and tap into them, then tap Storage in that menu and click Clear Data and Clear Cache. Once you have done both of them reboot the phone and you should be able to access the external storage normally again.

The fix works for Windows. However. using Ubuntu I am limited to a PTP connection. I am unable to establish a MTP connection. Although my PTP connection works for the internal storage, it fails when trying to mount the sd card.

i chatted with moto, recommend to reset the phone after MM update. Time consuming and annoying but i did it. So far everything seems good except tried a few wifi managers and still need to enable gps to see networks. I can't understand the reason for gps. i'm not mapping locations, only need network name to connect.

I reset the phone per moto recommendation. So far apps that didn't work before now seem ok. I'm still waiting for my bt headset to arrive so can't test bt yet. I don't think i can manually wipe anything. Unrooted.

Yes you can... Reboot into bootloader and start factory recovery, after a bit it will say "No command" or something to that effect, the press PWR+VOL Up, you will get the stock recovery menu with an option to wipe cache partition. Give it time, mine took 15+ minutes.

Is it the same or better than factory reset? I already reinstalled a bunch of apps so prefer not to wipe in recovery, unless its absolutely necessary.

This only wipes the cache partition, it is not a factory reset and does not remove any apps or user data. Basically Android builds an optimized, cached copy of APK files, this will delete that information causing it to rebuilt on the next boot.

I followed your instructions for usb storage and i still can't access the phone like in lollipop. Plugged in, file explorer window popped up and i could access internal and external. Since MM update i have to pull down notification bar and select how i want USB connected. Charge, MTP, PTP, MIDI. This is what my external SD looks like now in windows. In phone its 1F78-151A.

That is a change in Marshmallow, it defaults to Charge Only... It can be changed in the Developer Menu when USB is not connected.
