Every like 5 minutes, a box pops up saying "SORRY!, The application mail (process com.htc.android.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
It also displays this message every time I open either my contacts or the mail app.
So.. I can't open my email or contacts.. and I need those.
Any ideas, or suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!
did you root your phone?
did you flash any rom?
My first response would be to wipe the app data. Assuming you already did this and it didn't do anything, I searched for a possible solution. I found something below in the link.
http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...android-email-has-stopped-unexpectedly-2.html
I tried deleting the account setup and everything and it did not fix anything.
so FYI, it turns out it had nothing to do with the setup, since it has been working all this time. However, as I found somewhere else, a certain email was causing this problem to happen. For some reason, a newsletter/email from buy.com was causing this problem. I basically went to my inbox from my computer... then moved the last few days of email to a temporary folder. Sure enough the email app stopped crashing. I moved the emails back into the inbox until I found the one that was causing it.
I have a GS3 running a custom 4.1.2 ROM called BoneStock. I just got the SW2 and after charging the watch turned NFC on and followed the instructions in the manual (downloaded the SmartWatch app, downloaded SmartConnect, touched the back of the phone to the back of the watch), which started the download of the SW to the watch. Everything seemed good.
To start getting notifications I downloaded WatchIt and it installed on the watch as well. All continued to seem good. I then sent myself a text from my wife's phone to my phone and after a second the message popped up on my watch. Things seem really good at this point.
Things immediately went bad though... my phone seemed to reboot, and then the touch screen seems to be locked, as I can't swipe to get past the lock screen. The screen occasionally turns itself on. The lit icons (back button, and menu button) lights up. I get notifications on the notification line at the top of the phone. There is a white hand on the notification bar (I believe its the Accessibility icon).
I have tried rebooting my phone. I have tried pulling the battery. Neither has helped. I have turned the watch off, hoping to free up the phone. That didn't help. I tried going into recovery and rebooting the phone from there. Didn't help. Hard to believe the very stock custom ROM is the cause of this, but open to any suggestions and hoping someone has faced and overcome a similar problem. Hoping I don't need to replace my phone, also hoping I don't need to return my watch.
UPDATE: I was able to get my phone up and running by getting into Recovery (TWRP), doing a wipe that brought my phone back to the original state.I will have to start over and try again to pair the watch and phone, and get it to catch notifications... this time without killing my phone.
Anyone have any thoughts to why my phone and watch didn't play nicely together?
(1) Is it due to the custom ROM?
(2) Did I make some major mistake when I paired the phone and watch (using NFC)? Should I try using bluetooth?
(3) Did I make a mistake setting WatchIt as my notification SW?
Any help would be much appreciated. I bought the SW2 at Best Buy and they have a 15 day return period, so any advice and guidance over the next few days would be much appreciated!

Newer update... I started over, this time using Bluetooth instead of NFC, and using the Sony messaging notification for texts instead of WatchIt. While I accidentally found the distance between phone and watch wasn't as far as I had thought, the watch picked up the texts and almost immediately if close to the phone. So good so far. My next need... native email.
I knew the SW2 only worked natively with Sony phones so I switched to K9 on my phone and downloaded K9 For Smartwatch for the watch. I didn't get any notifications appear on the watch. I will try again this AM, but am I missing a step or extension or setting that enables the watch notifications?
I also downloaded the Sony callhandling extension but didn't have time to test that, but again, I am wondering if I missed a step or setting with that?
Lastly, if I do try to use WatchIt again, is there a correct step by step process, like granting accessibility, or setting it up that only specific apps or processes send notifications, or anything else that will avoid freeing up my phone?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cant really help with custom roms, but I have android 4.1.2 aswell and watchit interacts with some other functions wierdly. Did you accept the watchit in Easy accessibility settings? It must be turned on. And i recommend to let watchit only notify with the apps you really want. Otherwise it will notify all time like "text was copied to clipboard" etc.
What is your email application? Gmail smart extension works fine with gmail (obviously). But after you have downloaded the gmail-app, you also need to add the adress for it by clicking the installed app from sw2 control center from the phone. Probably same with K9?

Thanks for the response. And yes, the GMail extension has a checkbox (checked) for my gmail address.
I switched from the stock email on my Android phone to K9 Email client since I saw it had a Smartwatch app (extension?) that I downloaded from the Play Store. But it doesn't have a similar checkbox that you can check from you can check accessible from the SW2 control center. I did read that the K9 for Smartwatch only reads notifications from the Unified Inbox and to make sure that the "Hide Special Accounts - Hide the Unified inbox" setting under Display is not checked... confirmed it is not. I also ran across a setting in K9 under Interaction that says "start in Unified Inbox" hoping checking that setting may help. But so far, no email notifications.
I may need to brave trying Watchit again. This time trying to not accept all notifications but instead only choosing K9 email notifications. But very interested in any other suggestions and advice, especially from anyone that is using K9 as their email client.

I dont know k9, but i didnt get the stock email app (icon: envelope with @-sign) working with sw2 neither with watchit. Watchit only notified me when i was sending a message, but never notified received messages. So I had to start using gmail-app instead of that stock app (envelope with @ sign). Watchit also interacted with the stock app, and the stock app started to talk back to me when deleting messages.
If you use gmail, why not just using the gmail-app and that extension for sw2 instead of using the stock email app?

Dang, tried WatchIt again, and tried using K9 and then switching back to the stock email app. Neither seems to push notifications or WatchIt doesn't seem to catch the notifications. And then the phone froze again.
Do people using WatchIt see a white hand in their notifications bar on their phone. One shows up on mine, and when you pull down notifications it leads you to Accessibility > Talkback (even though Talkback is not checked and WatchIt - JB is checked ).
I am getting tired of having to restore from Recovery and rebuilding my phone. But not catching emails on the watch is a key use case for me... without it, I am returning the SW2.
I may try bringing it in to Best Buy and seeing if someone there can solve this. But I know folks on XDA are smarter than the BB people... so any and all help and suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks for the response. Seems like there has to be a way to see email notifications (POP3 via Comcast). Without it, the watch is less useful to me. I do have a GMail account and the GMail notifications work great (very useful since I use Google visual voicemail). But most of my email use is the Comcast account. Without being able to see those, I will look at Pebble, or even return altogether and wait.
I have the default email app working with watching. I have email and exchange services enabled. Not sure if that'd work for pop3 mail though as I don't have an account to test with.

Watchit
- no i dont see any hand on my phone (maybe it's something to do with the custom rom?)
- there is problem with Watchit and talkback. I think it's more android related than app related bug. My phone started sometimes talk back to me, but I got rid of it on this way: when watchit was activated in Easy accessibility, then I went to settings -> application -> all apps -> google text-to-speech and cleared data. It may still interact with samsung processes i think, because if I use stock email app (that one which has envelope icon and @-sign) my phone keep talking me back. I dont use anymore stock email app. I didn't get it to notify me about coming emails.
- right now im only using watchit to notify me about skype and sms forwarding.
Like I said before, if you use gmail, don't use stock email app (that one which has envelope icon with @sigN). Instead of it, use the other one "gmail-app" and it works great even withouth watchit or k9. With gmail you don't need k9/watchit because the gmail smart extension works fine. If you are using some other mail than gmail, then wait and see others to give their instructions. Just don't install the watchit anymore if it causing huge problems.

When you say "default email app", do you mean that one with envelope icon and @-sign? How did you get it to work? I have tried days with watchit but no.. Only notification I get, it is when sending a message and my watch notifies me "sending" ... "sent"

Thanks again. I will give up on Watchit. Is there a different Notifications app/extension that works almost as well as Watchit? I did see Augmented and while the cost really isn't an issue it sure looks complicated and doesn't have a good look (someone else described it as causing "eye cancer"). But willing togive his free trial a shot. But are their any others... eg Notification Pro, or eNotifier, or ?
If there was a way to have my Comcast email appear in my Gmail inbox I'd go that route. Or if I could get K9 to work, since it actually consolidates other email including Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail.

So you are rooted... that is helpful info, thanks. On which phone? I have been really happy with BoneStock and waiting to see if the dev offers a 4.3 version. Though also tempted by some of the newer 4.4 KitKat ROMs.
Hmm... a glimmer of hope. It appears you can send POP3 email to Gmail:

May be a bit klugey... but worth a shot.

Samsung adds a lot of their features by hooking into the accessibility settings, especially prior to 4.3. It messes with other apps that use the accessibility. Your best bet is to use a 4.3+ based rom so you can use the notification access setting. If you really don't want to do that then you can try Wristin which is similar to WatchIt, but it will probably not work right either.

Thanks for the response. The good news is some devs just appear to have cracked the Samsung/Verizon 4.3 OTA update and a first rooted unlocked ROM has appeared. Hopefully I will be able to at least move up from my stable 4.1.2 to 4.3. In the mean time I will try having my email all come in through Gmail. And research notification access services in the different phones and OSes.
btw, where did you see Wristin? can't seem to find any info on it/them...

Phone app vanished after updating from B307 to B313. I can still receive calls and make calls using a 3rd party phone app but this is very weird.
Any ideas?
Well, the 3rd party phone app does its job pretty well. But there is another problem. I can't add contacts to my phonebook. It;s rather a weird bug or the app doesnt have enough permissions. When I dial a number and press add to contacts nothing happens.
I was thinking of flashing system.img in fastboot , but I dont know if I have to flash the data and cache partition too.
How should I proceed?
Have you tried to install "activity launcher" from PlayStore, you should find the phone app in the list.
The problem is that for the Honor6, phone and contact is the same app. So if nothing happens when you try to add a contact, I'm affraid the app is gone, but it's a really really strange affair
I have a galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G) running CM 11.0.
About once a week, whatsapp stops receiving messages. The next time I open the app, it complains:

If you "skip restore", you start with a new db. If you "restore", it probably restores from the whatsapp backups in /sdcard/Whatsapp/... (I actually never tried that because I have titanium which is just faster and more reliable)
Searching some of the strings in this message online (i.e "something went wrong with your chat history") yielded *nothing*.
This has been happening *way* too often lately, so it's really annoying. My current solution is 4 scheduled titanium backups a day, which is just an ugly patch - I want to solve this.
Did anyone encounter this? Any idea?
Do you have random reboots? Or did your battery die while you are using whatsapp? As far as I know, that's the way whatsapp db gets corrupted.
Yup u r right

I've had some (due to the stupid power button getting stuck...)
But still, *far* more corrupted DBs than random reboots.
Besides that, the only "abnormal" habit I can think of is moving in and out of airplane mode a few times a day (to save battery)
Do you think it might be of a problem? Anyway some of the corruptions happen *really* at random times, not directly after airplane mode switching, so I don't think that's the sole reason (if it's the reason at all)

I was saying he is right, whatsapp db gets corrupted when there is an abnormal power off, and airplane mode has nothing to do with it. Please check if have any task killer installed like battery saver or clean master coz whatsapp does not support any task killers.

No, I have no task killers, battery savers, etc. None. Nothing stops WhatsApp, it just crashes.
I will investigate it further and post here if I find anything as a future reference for others.
I also have this problem, at least for more than a year now.
I have a Fairphone (first edition) with Android version 4.2.2.
I have a corrupted Whatsapp messages database at least one time every week.
I used a task killer in the past but I am not using it any more for at least a few months.
I must admit that my phone does sometimes crash unexpectedly, but this does not necessarily correlates with the db corruption. Most of the time its like I'm using Whatsapp and everything is fine and when I check again for example, an hour later, it says that the message db is corrupted...
Also I factory reset my phone a few weeks ago and after setting everything up the phenomena still existed.
I also used an other Phone (Samsung Galaxy Core 2 with Android 4.4) for a full week and I didn't experience this database corruption with Whatsapp.
So I wondered if you have found a solution by now? or maybe what can be a possible reason (or reasons) for this corruption?
I think I found a solution, chat gets corrupted only after u restart ur phone, just force stop WhatsApp then reboot your phone.. Hope this fixes ur problem too
"something gone wrong with your chat history"
go to "whatsapp" installation folder (in phone or card)
open Folder "whatsapp"
open Folder " Database"
In this folder named (Database) , except file name " msgstore.db.crypt" and 2nd last back file, Delete all.
For example, if you have in your phone like below.
1-msgstore.db.crypt
2-msgstore-16-12-2016.db.crypt
3-msgstore-17-12-2016.db.crypt
4-msgstore-18-12-2016.db.crypt
5-msgstore-19-12-2016.db.crypt
except 1st and "4th. delete all.
problem solved, also you will find more space in your "SD CARD" or "Phone memory"

No, it doesn't work. I already had a habit of deleting older databases from that folder. But still I got this issue. Whenever, I click the 'search' and type something, WhatsApp closes immediately and when I open it, it asks me to restore last backup.
You see the problem that WhatsApp encounters is not in the backup database(s) in the SD card. The problem is in WhatsApp private-folder database. To be precise, the problem is in this file exactly:-
/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db
However, to access this file, you need root access. And if someone is smart enough and has ample amount of time, he/she can also find the error in the database manually in the different sections. All you need is an SQL database editor to view the file. I guess the problem should be in 'messages_fts' and/or 'messages_fts_content' tables in the database.
Well, same issue here. I have 4 backups, but all of them seem to be corrupted since Whatsapp crashes after restoring the database. It is curious, if I disable wifi and data the restore process ends properly. But Whatsapp crashes no matter what after a few minutes.
Is there any way to fix the *.db.crypt12 database? That would fix the problem.
I have no crashes, but on my rooted S6 the DB gets corrupted quite frequently. At this stage I don't really see any other way out than to start over - completely. Any tips?

Actually, you can fix the DB crypt12 database manually, but to find the error and fix it will be a time taking task.

The DB file is fine. I already decrypted it and checked with SQLite. The problem must be in the data, and only WhatsApp can identify the issue. They already have the file but I do not expect any answer. WhatsApp has failed to me. A $19,000,000,000 company unable to fix the problems they create.

@Oki: did you managed to get an answer from Whatsapp? I'm with a similar problem... On a new phone the backup stops at 41% and I can't restore the messages :/
I've never seen a message that indicates that the db file is corrupted but I don't know how to solve this

They answered but only for letting me know there is no solution but delete the DB and start a new one. I did a backup of the DB file and started a new DB.

But by starting a new db from scratch how can you put the backup messages there?

There is no way.
Hi mate. I had the same issue. Not sure if the WhatsApp database was corrupted or not . I still had WhatsApp installed on my old phone. I deleted all manual backups and Google drive back up. Allowed for a fresh manual back up and a fresh Google drive back up WITHOUT media (you might find a lot of corrupt images in your WhatsApp image folder btw like I did. Delete them). Then copied over the new manual backup onto the new phone. Then did a restore from Google drive which stopped at 31% and said if I wanted to restore from local backup. For "preparing WhatsApp messages" it reached 100% then said "restoring messages". I left the phone like this overnight. I have 400,000 messages and my file is 120mb. Woke up in the morning and still said "restoring messages" with no status of how much was restored or restoring. Endless loop. Did a restart of the phone and went back onto WhatsApp and all my messages were there! Though not sure if the data is still corrupt as when I scroll all the way to the top of a chat it shows my messages from April 2013 but when I do a "search" in the chat and then remove the word from the search and scroll back up it'll only go up to like September 2013. I have to click "back" and go back onto the chat to see messages right from April 2013 - Strange! Not sure it it's data corrupted or a glitch that needs fixing.

It seems the restoration process was incomplete. In the actual database file where messages are stored,
/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db
there is a table messages_fts_content, which, according to my observation, is responsible for maintaining a search index.
You say that the search results only in newer messages appear and the older ones are not visible, which means that the messages_fts_content table was not restored completely.
P.S. I don't know if the WhatsApp backup dbcrypt files have the messages_fts_content table or not. It is also possible that the dbcrypt files have only the messages and WhatsApp generates the messages_fts_content table automatically after restoring the messages.
If someone has been able to open the dbcrypt backup files, please post a list of tables in that database.
There are a few people complaining of seemingly random reboots, myself included.
I have bell stock, unlocked, unrooted.
It started to happen at almost my second month mark with this device, while listening to Spotify or Tapatalk browsing or simply just idle, just noticing the bright startup screen all of a sudden. This reboot occurred once or twice daily.
I repaired the phone using the Sony pc companion, I also restored all of my settings and most of the apps.
No undesired reboot for almost 2 weeks, until moments ago, listening to google music thru Bluetooth (which I do most of the time anyways.)
I have kept a quite small number of apps while waiting to see what triggers the reboot, nothing you'd consider risky, I'd mention Nova launcher, aquamail and tasker. I haven't install yet greenify, lux, call recording app or the like.
What I did do lately (yesterday and the days before), I uninstalled or disabled some of the bloat, nothing of importance I think. Here's the complete list of disabled apps.

Honestly, not used to these reboots, while I've seen some in the past, they would be pretty rare, on rooted and custom roms.
Is this a common occurrence among the z5 folks? Any idea what triggers it? It looks like being soft related, but have no idea really, perhaps someone more knowledgeable attempts to address it?
Cheers!

Never happened to mine, although more than 200 apps installed. I would suggest do a factory reset using PC Companion...
Xperia Z5 E6653
Never had a reboot here.
Can you check in diagnostic if there is an app acting weird?
I might enable back all app and check if the reboot persist or remove tasker and try.
One more thing u can do ia trying ur phone in safe mode.

There was no application information in diagnostic pages, however it asked me to send app usage data to Sony which I did. I assume it might help when this happens next time.
I reenabled a few apps and will see what happens next.
My last factory reset happened precisely 9 days ago, according to same diagnostics. I have counted the user apps, 48 apps in total, I could remove maybe half of them without any remorse

No reboot on mine either if I'm honest.

no reboot here aswell...using it for 3 months now.
No undesired reboots also.
I see. I was under the impression that this was a more common occurrence. My bad.
Will probably attempt another factory reset if can't fix otherwise.
Until then, please ignore this thread.

I actually have had random reboots. I've also had moments where the screen refuses to wake up properly. It'll switch on but stay black. It hasn't happened in a long time, though.

I've had a few on my first unit.
Did the screen turn fuzzy like a snow storm on an old TV? (I don't know how to describe it, u know what I mean)
I got mine replaced because of faulty camera lens and display, now I haven't had one single reboot (other then the reboots I requested myself obviously)
I get some (when overheated or sometimes while switching from cellular to WiFi or WiFi to cellular).
Not to bad 90% of the time, though supper annoying when it happens while listening to music/podcasts.

I wouldn't mind a random reboot once in awhile. It is advised to reboot it yourself once a week anyway.
When it started to happen here it was kinda annoying, at least daily. It mostly occurred while listening to music via Spotify, but I also had it reboot while chatting in hangouts and once while talking to a bell agent..
So yeah, I'm trying to prevent the daily occurrence to happen and so far seems to have worked. After the steps I mentioned yesterday, no reboots so far and I went through pretty much everything I do with my phone.

I saw my phone rebooting once when I put it in pocket, I do not think it caused by overheating. I thought maybe I accidentally hit power button.
But thing went strange when it did not recognize wifi. I found it lost every wifi password spots.
Every other apps still are fine (I do not any problem except wifi problem). My phone is E6653 with newest .200 firmware.
I think I just encounter once (but very serious), and I am not sure whether it reboots any more times when I do not know.
on z5 , random reboots are related to xposed. if you install xposed , you will get them

Not entirely true. Yes, this can happen but I haven't event unlocked my BL, let alone rooted and flashed Xposed; yet I've still have reboots.

Not rooted here, unfortunately can't unlock bl. Hopefully an alternate root method will come someday..

I very much suspect the random reboots to be related to disabling one or several apps shipped with this device.
I am trying to see if it's easy to spot the first one that will cause the reboot by disabling one at a time and waiting for eventual reboot.
Probably isn't too worthwhile since next big update is around the corner and hopefully fixed by then, I was thinking if somebody else might join the search for the offending app? It can only help, I think, trying to reproduce the issue and signal it to sony devs, just in case they don't know about it yet.
So some means to investigate this are:
A) disable one app at a time, manual reboot for good measure and wait ~ 24 hrs; if reboot doesn't occur continue with disabling the next app
or B) disable a bunch of apps, see if the reboot occurs on your device.
We are only interested in those apps sony decided to be install in system account: Album, File Commander, Music, Privilege Plus, PS stuff, Video, What's new, Xperia Lounge, etc
If you can reproduce the issue, report back with the apps disabled and your firmware version. I will try to put together the results and see if we figure a pattern or simply send the data to sony.
rock on!
Try not disabling sony account manager and fb things.

Fb stuff disabled for a while now, I think it's quite safe to get rid of.

Other apps I am almost sure are safe to go are Xperia lounge suite, no reboots for more than a week
